It's War Kim Sunggyu!

Words-3,542

Infinite High was known for their top two students; Kim Sunggyu and Kim Myungsoo. They were both known for their high grades and their rivalries.“I can’t believe he beat me…again!” Myungsoo fumed hitting the notice board with the test results. He was about to excuse himself to the bathroom when he caught sight of the enemy hamster. “Oh Myungy didn’t get it this time.” Sunggyu teased staring at the results chart. Myungsoo knew better than to allow the hamster to get to him but having him so close in the presence of their test scores got the better of him. Wanting nothing more than to smack the smirk of his face, Myungsoo bald his fist and his heels avoiding a disastrous situation.

Flash Back:

It all started when they first entered Infinite High. Both Sunggyu and Myungsoo were the brains at their past schools and as far as they were concerned, keeping that reputation was all that mattered. It was on their first ever exam at the school that the rivalry began. “MOVE! I have to see my results!” could be heard echoing throughout the hall. Pushing past a crowd of eager students was a boy a bit too short for his age, with mocha colored hair and a prince charming face. Walking up to the chart his eyes darted across the names and numbers. Finally settling on his name he narrowed his eyes on the names above and below. “WHAT!?!”

Kim Sunggyu-100%

Kim Myungsoo-97%

Lee Howon-89%

Myungsoo stared at the name above his in utter shock. He had been so caught up in the moment that he failed to realize the owner of the 100% was standing beside him. “Yes! 100% is mine! Mawhahahaha” Hearing the outburst, Myungsoo turned to the person beside him. Smiling brightly at the results sheet stood a boy about Myungsoo’s age maybe older with strangely too small to be eyes, to chubby to be teenage cheeks and too adorable to be human. “You’re Kim Sunggyu?” Myungsoo gulped turning his body so that he was now fully facing the other. Sunggyu nodded and smiled cheekily at the other before walking closer to the information. “I can tell by your expression that you’re either Kim Myungsoo or Lee Howon, but, you don’t look like a Howon so I’ll say you’re Myungsoo. Am I right?” the hamster asked turning back to the dazed Myungsoo with a slight smirk.

End of Flash Back:

“Aww, Myungsoo don’t be like that!” Sunggyu shouted at his retreating figure. Myungsoo hurried into the boy’s washroom to quickly calm himself. He walked over to the sinks staring at his pissed expression. “How the hell did he beat me!?” Opening the faucet, Myungsoo collected a handful of water and splashed it onto his heated face. Halfway through drying, he heard the washroom door open. Normally he would ignore the person coming in but this time it was unavoidable. “Oh hey there. Sorry about you not topping but it happens sometimes.” Myungsoo was sure he could get away with murder since they were both alone in a large room. “Look I don’t care, we’ll see who succeeds next time around.” With that said Myungsoo pushed past the other and made his way into the classroom.

As the other students piled in Myungsoo kept his eyes level to the floor. He could hear the faint steps of the one student he despised the most coming closer and closer. He knew sometimes he could be childish but he couldn’t help it. Myungsoo stared at the feet approaching before sticking his out. Missing the action Sunggyu tripped on the obstacle nearly hitting the floor. Aside from being a competitive bastard Myungsoo couldn’t help but admire the elder. He knew he hated him but somewhere along the way he felt something more. Sunggyu stared up in shock at his savior. “M-Myungsoo y-you sav-” “yeah whatever just sit down!”

Classes flew by and before Myungsoo even realized it, it was time to head home. The last bell had rung and all the students hurried to pack their things away. Myungsoo seemed to not be in a rush unlike the other days. He lazily threw his books and stationary into his back pack before casually walking out of the classroom. Everyone had already left the hall except one person. When Myungsoo was securely out the classroom and familiar figure popped out startling him. “Hiya.” Narrowing his eyes on the intruder, Myungsoo scoffed before quickening his pace. “Why are you following me?” he asked stopping abruptly to glare at the tag along. “I’m not following you per say…I wanted to thank you properly for not letting me fall after you tripped me.”

Myungsoo’s eyes widened at the last words. “So you did know it was me?” he said in an amused tone. “Duh stupid, only you do stuff like that when you’re angry. But I’m curious as to why YOU caught me after YOU tripped me. Could it be that you’re starting to like me?” Sunggyu teased poking his index finger into the other’s side earning a smack. “NO! I simply thought it was childish and decided otherwise.” Myungsoo said with a confident air. Right after his speech Sunggyu poked him one last time before uttering some words, “you like me just admit it Kim Myungsoo!” With that the elder sprinted off in the direction of the bus leaving a dumbfounded Myungsoo behind.

“The nerve of that-”

“Hey L!...Hey!”

Running out of the school was one of Myungsoo’s friend, Dongwoo. They were friends since preschool but split for a year and were reunited at this school. Myungsoo moved up to a higher grade because of his quick grasp of the subjects leaving Dongwoo behind a year. “Sup Dongwoo.” Myungsoo greeted pleasantly. “I saw your marks, wow you never fail to impress me.” Dongwoo said out of breath smiling as brightly as he could despite the lack of air in his lungs. Myungsoo thanked him for his kind words before slinging an arm around the other’s shoulder. “Yeah but I still couldn’t beat that other guy. I mean how does he do it? He’s totally unbeatable!” Myungsoo wined earning a smack to the back of his head. “Dude get over it already! You’re practically a genius, why do you HAVE to be so competitive?!?” Myungsoo knew his friend had a point but he couldn’t help the competitiveness, as long as Myungsoo could remember he always had the thirst for first place.

After Myungsoo bid farewell to Dongwoo he quietly made his way home. “Maybe Dongwoo’s right, I should just stop caring if I beat him or not.” Hearing himself utter those words caused a cynical laugh to erupt from his core. “Yeah when my iPod talks to me.” Myungsoo made his way into his house, tiredly greeting his mother who was currently busy in the kitchen. He lazily removed his shoes and padded his way to his bedroom to wallow in self pity. Aside from being a top student Myungsoo had a secret. The competitive, cruel, cold-hearted boy everyone knew him as had a with hamsters, yes hamsters. “Are you hungry boy? Are you? Who’s a good Sunggyu? You’re a good Sunggyu.” Myungsoo chanted as he pulled the bundle of fur out of its cage. “I still can’t believe I named you that! What was I thinking?!? I mean you do look an awful lot like him but that’s it.”

Myungsoo continued to play with his pet until he glanced at the time, “! I have home work!” Quickly placing his hamster into its cage Myungsoo hurried to the bathroom to take a shower. Finishing up he grabbed his bag from the floor and began his assignments for the next day. After yesterday’s incident, Myungsoo pushed the elder’s words to the back of his mind. Myungsoo knew better than to let trivial things as such hinder him from what really mattered. Pushing open the baby blue door he made his way through the rows of desks. Stopping at the front of his seat, he glanced up at a pair of shoes resting on his table. “Can I help you?” he asked through gritted teeth. The owner of the shoes simply smirked before shifting the position of his feet. “No I’m okay.”

Completely to the point of murder, Myungsoo grabbed onto the unwanted object on his desk. “If you don’t get your hamster of my chair Kim Sunggyu…I swear you’ll never be able to sit for the rest of your life!” Sunggyu taken aback at the statement dropped his feet from the table. “Hamster? When did I become a hamster?” Before anymore words could be exchanged between the two, a familiar student made his way to them. “Look I know this isn’t any of my business but if you keep annoying me with your incessant bickering I’ll have to report you to the principal.” Hearing Howon’s threat both boys ceased their conversation for now. First period ended as well as second and third. Myungsoo made his way to the cafeteria area to relax before his next class.

“So you think I look like a hamster do you?” Sunggyu asked catching Myungsoo off guard. “Yeah, so what?” Sunggyu narrowed his eyes on the other before taking a seat beside him. “So it that because you think I’m cute and cuddly?” Myungsoo mentally face palmed at the statement before slamming his head on the cafeteria table. Sunggyu sighed placing his hand between Myungsoo’s head and the hard wood. “Don’t do that, you’ll bruise that handsome face of yours.” Instantly after saying the words Sunggyu covered his mouth and turned away. Myungsoo stared wide-eyed at the other before clamping his hands on either side of Sunggyu’s shoulder turning him around. “What’d you just say?” Sunggyu knew he wasn’t a very good lair so instantly he gave up. “I said you’ll bruise your handsome face. Happy?!” he asked a bit frustrated at the turn of events.

Myungsoo thought for a moment before smirking at the other. “I guess, but that depends on HOW handsome you think my face is.” Sunggyu rolled his eyes before pushing the other roughly, “don’t get cocky Kim Myungsoo! I still hate you despite your handsome face.” Myungsoo chuckled at the last words before patting Sunggyu’s shoulder, “well what can I say, I still hate you despite your cute hamster-like face.” Finishing his sentence, Myungsoo hurried away from the fury of Sunggyu and made his way into his classroom. Myungsoo quickly took his seat after running away from the cafeteria. He couldn’t help but feel a change in the air after talking with Sunggyu. “What is this feeling I’m getting?” he asked himself before shaking off the thought. When the bell had rung signaling break was over Myungsoo padded his way into his next class.

Myungsoo walked into the empty classroom and strolled over to his seat. The other students hadn’t arrived yet since they were all down in the cafeteria. Myungsoo decided that it was better that he was early since it allowed him some time to prepare before class started. Digging in his backpack, Myungsoo pulled out his text book, note book and pencil case. He opened his note book to a clean page and turned to the chapter his teacher was currently at. Reading through the first 3 paragraphs, Myungsoo heard the footsteps of the students coming in. “You’re here early.” Howon stated as he took his place a desk away from Myungsoo. Myungsoo shrugged before continuing his reading. Finishing one side of the text book, Myungsoo glanced up into the eyes of Sunggyu. “Hey.” Sunggyu greeted taking a seat at a desk to Myungsoo’s side.

“Hey.” Myungsoo replied staring intently at the other. “This isn’t your normal seat is it?” Sunggyu hummed in response while rummaging through his backpack, “I decided I wanted to sit here today. It isn’t a problem is it?” Myungsoo shook his head and turned to the front of the class. “It’s no problem to me but that’s his seat.” Myungsoo said pointing to a slightly build boy, with ruffled hair and a confused expression. “That’s Soohyun’s seat you’re in.” Myungsoo stated before turning back to see Sunggyu’s expression. Soohyun who was now standing in front of his occupied desk leaned forward with a questioning look. “Sorry but that’s my seat.” He replied fiddling with his bag strap. Sunggyu huffed before narrowing his eyes on the other, “Can I sit here for today then.” he asked with an innocent smile. Soohyun glanced between Myungsoo and Sunggyu before sighing, “Fine.”

Sunggyu smiled in victory as Soohyun retreated to one of the seats in the back. Still wearing the smile he turned towards Myungsoo flicking his tongue out before turning back to his books. Myungsoo rolled his eyes at Sunggyu’s childishness before turning back to his books as well. The day flew by fast as usual. Myungsoo lazily packed his stationary and books into his bag before walking out of the classroom. Closing the door behind him, Myungsoo met up with Sunggyu. “So is that going to be your permanent seat from now on?” He asked walking out of the school gate. Sunggyu tapped his index finger on his chin before turning towards Myungsoo. “Would you like me to sit there from now on?” Myungsoo eyes widened at the question before turning back to their normal size, “if you want to sit there or not is purely up to you Kim Sunggyu.”

Saturday, a day Myungsoo always looked forward to. It was a day where he could stay in bed or lazy around the house doing absolutely nothing. A day when he could go to the park or library to catch up on some reading that didn’t involve school or anything related. “Myungsoo, you have a visitor!” his mother yelled from below. Myungsoo peeked from under the covers as his mother’s words met his tired ears. “A visitor? Who the hell? At this freaking time of the day.” Myungsoo grumbled before he unwilling dragged himself off the bed and into the bathroom. After brushing his teeth and ruffling his hair a bit, Myungsoo stomped his way down the staircase and into the living room. To his surprise a certain someone was quietly sitting on his sofa. “What are you doing here? How do you even know where I live?” he asked dumbfounded.

“Oh finally you’re up. I swear you’re the laziest person I’ve ever met.” Myungsoo rolled his eyes before strolling over to the intruder. “So what does Kim Sunggyu want with me today?” Myungsoo asked taking a seat next to the boy. Sunggyu sighed before propping the side of his face in the palm of his hand, “I’m bored. I usually have things to do with my parents but their kind of away and I have nothing to do.” Myungsoo stared wide-eyed at Sunggyu before grabbing a hold of his hand. “Follow me then.” Sunggyu allowed himself to be led up the staircase and into Myungsoo’s room. Reaching safely inside, Myungsoo locked his door and released his hold on Sunggyu. He made his way over to his bed before dropping hard on the sheets. “Well I was thinking about going to the park or the library but eventually I gave up and decided on staying home and doing nothing. You’re welcome to join since you have nothing to do.”

Sunggyu raised a confused eyebrow at the other before shrugging and walking over to his desk. “Wow you own a hamster? What’s his/her name?” Myungsoo glanced up from the sheets before looking over at his pet. “Um…his name is…well I didn’t know what else to name him then I met you and…well…you look like a hamster…and well I decided to name him…Sung…gyu.” Sunggyu was shocked at the explanation but quickly regained his composer and walked over to Myungsoo’s bed. “You named your pet after me?!!?!” he asked through gritted teeth while climbing onto the bed. Myungsoo hid under the sheets to protect himself from further scolding but to no avail. Sunggyu gripped firm to the fabric, yanking it off of Myungsoo before pinning both his hands above his head. Myungsoo struggled to free his hands but soon gave up under the strength of Sunggyu.

“I’m sorry, I’m sorry it’s just that he looks like you and I’m sure if he could talk he would sound like you as well.” Myungsoo teased earning a scold from the other. Both Sunggyu and Myungsoo had been too caught up in their little war that they didn’t realize their position. Sunggyu kept Myungsoo’s hands above his head while straddling him. When both simmered down Myungsoo was the first to notice their positions. Sunggyu took a deep breath before looking down at his prey. Finally noting their positions, Sunggyu face turned a bright shade of red and he could feel the blood rush south. Myungsoo’s eyes widened as he felt Sunggyu’s semi-hard on pressing into his stomach. Myungsoo decided to remain silent for fear of his voice cracking. Sunggyu gently released his grip on the other’s hand before lifting himself up and onto the floor.

“Ah…I’m s-sorry about that…” he choked out rubbing the back of his head. Myungsoo remained silent before he lifted himself out of bed and walked over to the still blushing hamster. “It’s okay I guess.” He whispered before encircling his hands around Sunggyu’s waist. Sunggyu tensed briefly before he was spun around and was now facing Myungsoo. “Sunggyu…tell me now, do…I mean do you…like me?” Sunggyu’s voice cracked as he tried to respond to the question. Finding it difficult to reply with words he leaned closer brushing their lips slightly. Myungsoo blinked in shock before tightening his grip on Sunggyu’s waist. “Good cause I’ve liked you for a while, and it would’ve been a pain if you didn’t feel the same way.” Sunggyu smiled shyly before leaning in again only to come to a halt. Myungsoo noted the brief pause in his action and proceeded to close the gap between them.

Myungsoo could tell by the slow, clumsy movement that Sunggyu was nervous. He was sure the other had kissed before but he was a bit unsure of whether he had kissed someone of the same gender. After a few seconds, Sunggyu pulled away only to look in another direction and nibble on his lower lip. Myungsoo who was now attentively watching found the action to be quite adorable. “What? My lips aren’t good enough for you?” He probed nudging the other slightly. Sunggyu turned his attention back at the question and quickly shook his head. “Of course not! Their amazing it’s just…kissing you is something new.” Both remained silent still holding each other until a knock at the door interrupted them. “Myung would you and your friend like to have breakfast?” Myungsoo stared questioningly before dropping his arms from around Sunggyu’s waist. “Would you?” Sunggyu thought for a moment before nodding, “sure why not.”

Sunggyu and Myungsoo sat at the dining room table enjoying their breakfast. Myungsoo would occasionally glance over at the happy hamster then quickly look away for fear of getting caught. Myungsoo’s mother was currently with them in the kitchen so conversation between the two was at a standstill. “So Sunggyu is it? How long have you known Myungsoo?” Sunggyu looked up from his plate and glanced between Myungsoo and his mother. “Well I’ve known him since the starting of school. We’re kind of enemies.” Myungsoo’s mother furrowed her brows at the response but decided it must be troublesome to ask for an explanation. “Okay…well I’ll be in the living room if you need anything.” She reassured before bolting from the kitchen. Myungsoo narrowed his eyes on Sunggyu with his spoon resting flat on his tongue, “enemies huh?” he half laughed before continuing his breakfast. “What we ARE sort of. Aren’t we?” Sunggyu asked puzzled. Myungsoo looked up amused before placing his spoon on the plate. “Enemies don’t make out in one enemy’s bedroom.”

A Term After-Final Exams Results

“WHAT!?!” Sunggyu yelled after peering at the mark sheet in the hall. Everyone was yet again gathered around examining their marks and others as well. Sunggyu stood glued to his spot as the realization dawned on him. Breaking the corner wearing the brightest of smiles was none other than Kim Myungsoo. “Sup hamster? You look terrified.” Myungsoo teased until his attention was brought to the results sheet.

Lee Howon-100%

Kim Sunggyu-90%

Kim Myungsoo-89.1%

“WHAT?!?!” Myungsoo yelled looking at the result from top to bottom. “This can’t be?! H-How did he?? How did we??” Both Sunggyu and Myungsoo stared open-mouthed at each other. “So you guys are finally below me huh, well it’s about time.” Howon mumbled before walking off leaving Sunggyu and Myungsoo still in shock. “Myungsoo!” Sunggyu called startling the other out of his trance. “Because of you I’m below that guy! Now, it’s certainly war! Mark my words Kim Myungsoo, the heat is on!” Myungsoo stared at the retreating figure of his supposed to be boyfriend before everything clicked. “And it’s on here as well Kim Sunggyu! Don’t think I won’t rise to the top! If Lee Howon can then I certainly can!”
