Safe House

Safe House

You heard your alarm blaring in your ears, your eyes snapped open and slowly close half way again before jerking up from your bed when you remembered there was school today.

"Ugh, crap, I forgot there was extra classes’ today." You knocked your head on the bed frame while grabbing your towel and lazily trudged towards the toilet. You glanced at the wall clock on your right and your eyes widened the size of flying saucers.

"Damn it! I’m going to be late!” You hissed.

Lucky for you, you had laid out your chosen clothes the night before. While you were struggling with your jeans, your eyes landed on the calendar at your study table. Your eyes softened and you got giddy with happiness, remembering that you had a date with your boyfriend today.

Feeling lightheaded, you slung your bag over your shoulders and headed out. The honk of a car snapped you out of your daze, the muscles in your legs flexed as you sped up. This was a first, being late for school. You were always on time, maybe sometimes arriving for class a little earlier than expected – punctuality, which was what your parents had taught to you from young.

As soon as soon as you reached school, you sunk into your seat and blew your fringe. Just on time, you thought to yourself.

You tried to concentrate on whatever your teacher was saying but your clouded mind unconsciously drifted towards your boyfriend, Ahn Jaehyo. Well, it is hard to imagine but yes, Ahn Jaehyo. A wave of excitement and bliss overwhelmed you as you expelled a soft sigh out of your mouth.

A sudden knock on your table startled you, waking you up from your ecstasy of a daydream.

“Miss, if you plan on daydreaming in my class, I suggest you leave." Your teacher sounded out, giving you a stern gaze.

You gave a timid bow and gathered every ounce of your studious self into concentrating. Fortunately, it works and you smile, giving yourself a pat on the back.

As soon as your teacher released you, your mind screamed in jubilance as you ran out of the gate. You were always an obedient and ready-to-learn kind of student but just for today, you decided to let loose and of course it was also Jaehyo’s fault for occupying your mind today.

"Oof!" You ran straight into an all too familiar strong solid chest. You blinked up to see Jaehyo looking down at you with his dark brown orbs, amusement clearly scribbled all over his face as his lips curled up into a knowing smirk.
"Missed me real bad, didn't you?" Your flushed, tainting your cheeks in a lushes light pink.

"Come on, you don't want to spend our date here, do you? Plus, you have to be back early remember?" He reminded you and you, almost immediately, frown. You had to pick your little sister up from school at 5, you had always done that and to be quite honest, you were sick of it. Sure, you loved your little sister greatly but you felt your freedom had been restricted since you had to take of here all the time. Each time you wanted to go to outings with friends, you had to consider everything and anything. You gave an exasperated sigh and glanced at your watch on your wrist, you only had two hours of Ahn Greek God Jaehyo time and you groan inwardly at the depressing thought of leaving him two hours later. You stomped your left foot childishly and hopped in Jaehyo's car – An Audi R8. He gave your hand a gentle squeeze and flashed his signature, infectious smile that never fails to melt your heart. He’s my man.

On your way to the destination where Jaehyo had picked – and refused to tell you where, you sent a message to your grandmother to come to your place, just in case you came home late – just a precaution. Nobody knows what might happen.

"Baby, we're here." Jaehyo announces as pokes your cheek. You giggle in response.

“You dork!" You stretched over and kissed the bridge of his nose.

"Your dork." He reciprocated your action with a kiss on your forehead. Your heart started beating wildly. Even after so long, he still has this effect on you. You instinctively intertwine your fingers with his when you felt his hand slip into yours and you smile inwardly.

Your date was simple yet meaningful one. Well, who are we kidding? Every second with Jaehyo is meaningful for you. Food was always the epitome of your dates, Jaehyo and you were extremely big eaters and you didn't mind about how you act or ate. Besides, Jaehyo found it cute – that you love food as much as him. Jaehyo not minding it all made it even more infatuating for you, he accepts you just as you are and he never tries to change your ways. The both of you indulged in rich, flavourful pasta and then went on to Macdonald’s to get fries and ice cream – a food combination which you so very love. And after which the both of you decided to go to a tteokbokki stall and ordered a large serving. While feeding each other, he teased you and you - normality between the two of you. The woman tending the stall smiled warmly at both of you.

"The both of you make such an adorable couple!" She clapped. You beamed, flashing your white teeth. It’s a wonder how she hasn’t gone blind yet.

"We do, don’t we, ahjumma! I'm going to be her husband in the future and we're going make pretty babies together!" Jaehyo claimed, sliding his arm around your shoulders and pulling you closer towards his side. You blushed at the mention of make and babies, trust Jaehyo to say this. The ahjumma laughed at Jaehyo's straightforwardness.
"Geurae? Then don't forget to come to come to my shop with your pretty babies, okay?" Jaehyo nodded and nodded, and nodded. He stopped and shook his head in attempt to stop the dizziness. You laughed and scolded him in your head, Pabo.

"Baby!" He turned towards you. You looked up reflexively and stiffened when you felt his lips on yours. Mmm, soft, plump Jaehyo lips. Your lips curled up against his into a smile, your hands found its way into his fluffy brown hair, grabbing hold of it.

By the time the both of you had finished eating, you were groaning because you felt so bloated from all the food you had consumed today. And so you decided to take a walk to let the food digest. Jaehyo’s lips crept up into a devious smile and jumped in front of you, startling you. He raised his right hand and flicked your forehead softly.

“Ouch!” You smacked his chest.

“Liar! I did it so softly that even an ant wouldn’t die.” He scoffed at you. You gasped in return.

“Did you just scoff at me, Ahn Jaehyo?” You narrowed your eyes at him.

“And what if I did, Lil’ Missy? What are you going do about it, huh?” He retorted.

“You can keep your smart mouth shut! And I am NOT little!” You shot him a death glare but gave up because he didn’t falter at all. You pout, it had always worked on him but not today.

“Giving up so easily, aren’t we, Miss?” He nudged. You rolled your eyes to the high heavens and stomped off. Forgetting that he has legs that are so, so much longer than you, Jaehyo caught up quick.

You made no attempt to entertain him with his incessant poking today, you turned and scowled at him. He smiled at you sheepishly giving you his boyish, playful smile. Don’t give in. Don’t give in. Don’t give in. You mentally hit yourself on the arm as you repeated the mantra in your head. He poked you again and you turn, wanting to chastise him but immediately regretted doing so because he has his clenched hands hovering over his cheeks.

“Oh, no no no. Don’t do it, Ahn Jaehyo. I’m warning you!” You waved your hands.

“Buing Buing!” He says cutely and he moves his hands up and down. He does it once more and all your sanity left you as you doubled over, bursting with laughter, restraining yourself from rolling on the floor.  Jaehyo gave you a satisfied grin, content with the end result.

“You got me there, baby. Oh, god really? You resorted to aegyo?” You chuckled, wiping a lone tear from the side of your eyes.

“Well, I have nothing to complain about because it worked mighty fine on you.” Jaehyo wiggled his eyebrows and you rolled your eyes at him again, fighting a smile.

“Come,” He said as he pulled on your arm, guiding you deeper into the park. Spreading apart the tall grasses that were blocking the view, you stopped in your tracks when you glanced up. It was a small lake. There were lily pads scattered on the water, pebbles framing the small area and the glow of the orange sun reflecting on the surface of the water. It was simply breath-taking.

“It’s beautiful, Jaehyo.” You managed, not taking your eyes off the beautiful scene. He leaned closer towards you and you felt a slight brush of his lips hovering above your ear. It sent shivers down your spine, in a good way.

“Not as beautiful as you, my lady.” He whispered; his voice low and y. Your subconscious self was doing a pirouette, obviously happy. You turned your head fast and swift, giving him a chaste kiss - filled with the happiness and love you felt for him there and then - on his lips. Before you could pull away, he pushed himself towards you and deepened the kiss, he tugged on your lips, requesting for entrance. Just as you were about to part your lips, a message alarm from you phone called out.

Hey! You got a message!

You rolled your eyes. As you were fishing out your phone from your pocket, you couldn’t help but blush at what had just happened and what would have happened. You checked the text and stood up abruptly, ready to bolt. You had totally forgotten about your little sister. However, you relaxed when you remembered that your grandmother was at home. You turned to Jaehyo and he gazed at you, concern written on his face.

“Lil’ sister’s coming home in 5 minutes.” You said, exasperated. “I was having so much fun with you...” You pouted. Jaehyo’s eyes soften and gave you small smile. Seeing you pout, he leaned forward and stole a kiss from you.

You didn't waste your time and reluctantly asked Jaehyo to drive you home. The ride home filled with laughter. Even though you had to separate soon, you seized the time you have with him and make every second worth it. All but too soon, your house came in view, your shoulders fell and you sighed heavily.

"Babe, thank you so much for today, really. Even though it was short, it was plentiful of fun. I must be the luckiest girl on earth!" You gushed.

“Hey, anything for my lil’ lady! No, I must be the luckiest boy on earth." He said and he planted a kiss on your lips. You waved him goodbye and shot him a flying kiss which he caught ily and patted it firmly on his left side of his chest. You smiled in content as you stepped in the house. You found grandma sitting at the dining table and came over to hug her.

“Thank you, grandma! I lost track of time." You said as you scratched your head sheepishly. Your grandma shook her head and gave you a small smile. You gave your sister a kiss on her forehead and you headed to your room to change into something comfortable.

All comfortable, you plonked on your bed and played with your phone. Still smiling after your date today, you fawned and gushed about your day on twitter. You quickly decide that today is the best day of your life, Jaehyo is about the best thing that had ever stepped into your life. Your mind reeled with happiness.

However, all happy moments eventually comes to an end.

Your smile faded as soon as your mother came barging into your room screaming at you, "Why did you ask your grandma to come? You know how busy she was! Your father was complaining all the way in the car. He even cursed at another driver for cutting his lane and I have to sit there and listen to his complaints!" Your eyes widened and your mouth hanged open. You were caught off guard and stunned at your mother’s outburst. Rage which was building inside the pit of your stomach right now.

"Why was he even mad?! I didn’t ask him to come home, did I?! I didn’t disturb his work, did I?! I didn’t hassle him, did I?! Did I, Mum, did I?! " You raised your voice. The rage which was burning and building inside the pit of your stomach was finally released; you couldn’t keep it in you any longer.

"Don’t you dare raise your voice at me, young lady! Your sister was your responsibility! You should know how to plan your time and come back on time!"

You were frustrated beyond words. You pulled your covers roughly over you and turned away from her. You bit on your lip hard till you tasted a hint of iron on your taste buds to prevent yourself from crying.

“You never understand my intentions, Mum! I only did it for precautions! Wouldn’t it be worse if nobody was there to pick her up? I have a life, Mum, a life that I would like to rightfully live on my own. I have to consider all your time schedules, what time is there left for me?” You breathed. “I was having such a good day and you ruined it.”

“Your father will deal with you later. What you did was still wrong even given your intentions.” She scolded and exited the room.

“AAAAAHHHHHHH!” You screamed into your pillow while you stifled a sob. You texted Jaehyo a sad face and almost immediately, he called you.

"Baby, what's wrong?" You hesitated. Your lips trembled and soon all the tears flowed, choking on your own tears.

"Shh... It's alright now. I'm here, baby, I'm here for you. Don't cry, please. I'll come over, till then hold on, okay?" Jaehyo cooed and you muffled an ‘okay’.

You were startled when your windows opened only to find Jaehyo climbing in. He immediately rushed towards you and cradled you in his strong firm arms.

“I feel like crap right now. Why is everything I do wrong in their eyes, huh? Do they not love me anymore? I’m so tired from arguing with my mother, you know.”

“What exactly happened?” He asked. You took a deep breath and exhaled shakily and then you poured out all that happened. Before you could say anymore, your self-restraint crumbled and you sobbed into his solid chest, staining his shirt with your tears. He kissed your temple and tilted your chin up to see your tear-stained face and kissed your tears away, murmuring sweet nothings into your ears.

You finally stopped crying and looked up to him.

“Thank you, baby, thank you for being here when I needed you. You never fail to comfort me and make me feel better. I must’ve saved a country in my previous life to have stumbled upon such a prize...” You muttered. Jaehyo gave a small laugh and shake his head at you.

“You’re always welcome and you know that. You’re my girlfriend and that’s my job - to comfort you when you’re in great pain, to accompany you when you’re lonely and most of all, to put a smile on your face when you’re frowning. I love you, baby girl, more than my own life.”

“I love you too, with all my heart.” You whisper.

You grew tired as your eyelids drooped. Accompanied by Jaehyo's gentle rocking, you finally fell into a deep slumber protected by the arms of the man that is so dear to you. Jaehyo looked at your face lovingly, "My precious, so fragile and vulnerable... I love you so much, so much more than you can ever imagine."Your lips curled up knowingly into a content smile as you snuggled closer into Jaehyo's warm chest – there it was where you felt most safe and protected, in his arms. Jaehyo had always been your shield and your knight in shining armour from the day you met him.

Jaehyo tucked you in bed carefully, making sure you don't wake up. He pulled you close to his chest and gave you a final kiss on your temple before drifting off to sleep next to you, dreaming about you in his future with pretty and healthy babies.
