The Promise

Irresistible Lips

The pilot's voice ran ran clear over the loud speaker, announcing that the plane would be landing in Seoul, South Korea, in a mear 20 minutes. The sound of clicking began to fill the plane as the passangers all returned to their seats, putting on their seat belts. Leaning back in his seat, Dong Geun watched out the small window, his eyes fixated  on the seemingly small buildings down below. A small chuckle left his lips as he smiled. After four years of being gone, he was finally returning to the beloved city he called home.

"Exuse me sir, but could you please close your laptop and set your tray up? We'll be landing in just a few minutes." a flight attendant said to him, plastering a fake smile onto her face. Dong Geun nodded, doing as he was told. Just as the attendant was about to leave, he stopped her.

"You know that fake smile of yours is far from pretty. You should try a real one sometime." He said, smirking at her. The woman let out a small gasp before glaring down at him and turning away. Dong Geun chuckled once more, turning his attention back to the window.

"I'm coming Korea." He sait to himself. "I'm coming..."

The sound of the school alarm going off woke Sungjae from his deep slumber. His eyes still heavy from sleep. He scanned the room to see his classmates jumping around the room, throwing things and goofing off.  He smiled to himself, wiping off the drool from his chin before rubbing his eyes.

"Yah! Sungjae!" he heard a familiar voice shout. He groaned, turning his head to see his very loud, and annoying best friend Changsub. Sungjae gave his friend a sleepy smile, half waving to him.

"What's up?" Sungjae asked, stretching his stiff body, his mouth opening up in a long and very audible yawn. Changsub laughed, patting his friend on the shoulder.

"What are you doing after school today??" Changsub asked, nudging his friend with his hip. Sungjae laughed as his body was swayed. He grabbed his bag, shooing his friend out of the way so he could get out of his desk.

"I have work tonight." Sungjae said, beginning to walk out of the classroom. Changsub frowned, following after the male, catching up to his side. He pouted, poking his friend's arm as they walked.

"Can't you just call in sick today? Come on! We haven't been able to hang out for months!" Changsub whined. Sungjae frowned, shaking his head as they walked out to the bike rack.

"I'm sorry, but I need this job Changsub, I loose it, and we could loose the house.." Sungjae said, watching as Changsub reached down to undo the bike lock. Changsub sighed, wrapping the bike lock around his wrist, looking up at his best friend.

"Why won't you just let my father lend you guys some money? You can quit  that stupid job, and you guys can at least stay in that house for another year." Changsub said, pulling his bike away from the metal holder, beginning to walk it. Sungjae sighed, walking along side his friend, gripping tight onto his bag.

"Because then what would happen to us? We'd be kicked out and on the streets anyway. So no. I won't take money from your father. I need to do this. I need to protect my mother and little sister." He said, smiling sadly. "I am the man of the house now."

Changsub frowned, looking down at the ground as they walked.

"I just worry about you Sungjae...I don't want you working yourself to death.." He said sadly, gripping onto the handle bars of the bike even tighter. Sungjae let out a small chuckle, patting his friend on the back, giving him a large smile.

"Changsub don't worry about me ok? I'll see you Monday." Sungjae said, giving his friend a quick hug before taking off down the road in the opposite direction. Changsub sighed, watching as his friend ran off.

"Sungjae, I'll always worry about you..."

----------------------------------------------------------------

"Ye umma, I'm home. No, I did not stop by the bar. My plane got in late, I'm sorry. How's Grandma? I told you she would be this way the moment I left. Ye, I'll be over for dinner. Ye...love you too. Bye." Dong Geun sighed, tossing his cell phone onto the couch. He had been back in Korea for only an hour, and already his mom was beginning to nag him.

Dong Geun grabbed a spare towel, starting to dry off his wet hair, just as his intercom system went off signaling that some one was here. He walked over pressing the botton, talking into the speaker.

"Who is it?" He said, trying his best to not sound annoyed. It took a moment but finally another voice broke through the speaker.

"I have your food delivery sir.." a meek voice said. Dong Geun smile. Finally his food was here.

"Come on up." He said, typing in the code, allowing the door outside to open. Moments later there was knocking on his door. He walked over opening the door, ignoring the boy completely as he returned to the livingroom.

"The money in on the table, just leave everything and go." He said, not trying to sound mean, he just didn't want the delivery boy here longer than he needed to be. Dong geun turned his back to the boy before removing his shirt and tossing it onto the white couch in the living room. Though his back was turned he could feel the younger male eyeing him.

"Is there a reason why you're staring at me?" He asked, turning his head to look at the boy. The delivery boy gulped, shaking his head quickly continuing to unload the food. The younger male finished quickly, grabbing the money off the table and walked to the door.

"Thank you for your business sir." he said quietly, bowing before leaving the awkward situation as quickly as possible. Dong Geun chuckled, looking down over his body with a small smirk.

"I would have stared too kid." He said to himself laughing.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gripping onto his chest Sungjae leaned up agains the gate, his heart pounding. His last delivery of the day had been to a very expensive looking apartment, and the man inside had to be the most handsome man he had ever seen. He couldn't help but stare, and he almost died when he saw the man remove his shirt.

Obviously the male wasn't embarrassed of his body, and Sungjae could see why. Though he wasn't the most muscular man out there, he had just the right amount. His wide jaw line, dark mysterious eyes hidden behind his dark brown hair. The man was perfect.

"Snap out of it Sungjae...you're never going to see him again.." Sungjae pushed himself away from the gate walking over to his scooter. He groaned loolking at the shabby vehicle, getting on. He was glad he didn't have any more delieveries for the day, he wasn't sure if he could handle them. Not with the state of mind he was in now. He needed to get home to clear his head.

Driving as fast as the scooter would allow him, he made it back to his workplace in record time. Without saying as much as a hello to his boss, he timed out, and left. The walk from the restaurant to his home was short, and only took him 10 minutes to get home.

Once home all he could hear were the sounds of his mother and little sister fighting, again. He sighed, pushing through the door to find his sister on the ground and mother standing over her, holding her arm back. His sister was kicking the floor and squirming around, trying to get her arm out from her mother's vice grip.

"Umma, would you let Eunjae go." Sungjae said as he kicked off his shoes and walked into the small living room. His mother looked up, finally noticing that her son had returned. She gave him a sheepish smile.

"Sungjae! You're home!" She said, removing her hand from her daughter's arm, and running over to hug her son. Sungjae laughed, patting his mother on the head gently, before pushing her away gently. He walked over sitting down on the couch, his sister jumping up from her spot on the floor and rushing over to his side.

"Oppa! Mom said she was going to kill me!" His sister said with a pout, crossing her arms over her chest. Sungjae raised an eyebrow looking over at his mother with accusing eyes. The woman simply frowned, hitting her daughter in the back of the head.

"Well maybe if you weren't such a brat I wouldn't threaten to kill you! Why can't you be more like your brother? Huh?" His mother said, her face gettign closer to her daughter's as she spoke. Eunjae gasped in shock before sitting down beside her brother, clinging to his side.

"Do you see this?! She hates me oppa!" she cried out, her eyes beginning to fill with fake tears. Sungjae laughed shaking his head, ruffling up his sister's hair.

"Now now Eunjae-ah, you need to be nicer to umma. She's just trying to look out for you." He said with a smile. Eunjae gasped, sitting and looking at her brother in disbelief.

"I can't believe you're taking her side!" She exclaimed, getting off of the couch and rushing upstairs to her room, locking herself in. Sungjae sighed, laughing as he sat up from the couch and walked over to him mother, who was now sitting on the floor by the coffee table, sewing a quilt that Sungjae had failed to notice was there. He sat down beside her looking over at her.

"I get paid tomorrow." He said, looking down at his lap before turning to look at his mother. She sighed, setting the quilt down in her lap, turning to look at her son, her eyes filled with love, and worry. She placed her hands on her son's cheeks, leaning in a giving him a small kiss on the forehead.

"Don't worry so much Sungjae, everything will be ok. We'll push past this ok? Why don't you run upstairs and I'll bring you your dinner in bed. You look so tired..." She said, her fingertips gently tracing the small black circles underneath his eyes. Sungjae smiled, kissing his mother's cheek before getting up.

"I love you umma." He said before making his way up to his room. Once inside he shut the door to his bedroom, walking over to the nightstand by his bed. Sitting down he grabbed a picture from the stand, his finger tips gently tracing over the small smiling faces of the people in the picture. Himself, his sister, and his mother and father. This picture had been taken a month before his accident.

If only he had known then what would happen. Maybe, just maybe he could have saved his father. And his father would still be here with them.

"Don't worry umma. Soon I'll find a better job. One that pays much more, and will get us a better house. We'll start over. But this time we'll do things right. I'm the man of the house now, I'm going to save this family. Just like appa wanted me too." He said, his voice determined, though just barely above a whisper.

"I'm not going to let this family fall apart..."
