Fare Well

Again, this is my first time attempting, so please let me know what you think. Thank you! (:

It’s almost 7:30pm, my flight to New Jersey departs in 30 minutes. Patiently waiting for the announcer to announce my flight. I’m here alone waiting for someone, someone to at least, to realize my disappearance from my small apartment, and bid me a fare-well. I’ve been living alone for the past 2 years. Everyone lives their own life, so am I. But why am I so lonely? No one to appear at my door steps, no one to share meals with, no one to converse with. Life’s been like this for the past few months. Moving to New Jersey, moving in with my aging grandmother was probably the only idea I had in mind.

“It is now 7:50pm, Flight 32 is now boarding to Atlantic City, New Jersey, please gather your personal belongings and head over to the check in….”

Sigh, that’s my queue. Plugging in my iPod, I gathered my belongings, and headed for the check in to board my flight.

“You know, sighing means something’s bothering your heart.” A man in his early 20’s whispered behind me. “Sorry if I’d frighten you, but I couldn’t help but realize how many time such a pretty woman had sigh. You look a bit down, are you waiting for your Boyfriend to come and say goodbye to you before you board?” Who is this man to ask me such questions?

“Um. Actually I’m by myself. No one is coming, and I don’t have a boyfriend.” I quietly exhaled. The man slowly extended his right arms and patted my shoulders. “A pretty lady like you with no one to bid fare-well, too? My my my, so many are missing out.” he said as he shook his head. “Well, the name’s ______, and it is a pleasure to meet you. But you seem to be boarding soon also, so this is a meet, and fare-well type of meeting.” ______ had said while staring at me with disappointed eyes.

Just as I stared back, this man’s charm appealed to me, his hazel-brown eyes were nicely complemented by his well groomed hair, and his jawline so defined, it gave him a captivating smile. Without know, I've been staring at him for quite a while, as he chuckled and took my hand with both of his, warmly cupping my right hand. “Well, looks like it’s your turn, so I will be the one to bid you farewell today since you are boarding your flight, and I’ll be boarding mine.” He gently said as he pulled me in for a light hug. “I hope you feel better.  Fare-well’s are a bit saddening, so it’s okay if no one came, maybe they were afraid of separation. But brighten up, someone well definitely greet you once you’ve land. And if not, I swear I will take another plane to find you to greet you, cause I want to hear a laughter, not a sigh.” He addressed as he lets go of the hug. “Fare-well, miss.”

Cheeks as red as a tomato, being astounded by this human being, all I could do to respond was a sad smile. Slowly walking to my gate, thoughts quickly crossed my mind. I didn’t get to tell him my name, I didn’t thank him for the small talk, I didn’t even get to bid him a fare-well. He was right, fare-wells are saddening.

After being approached by ______,  he was all that I thought of while heading to New Jersey. I couldn’t seem to get him out of my head after the meeting. Never in my life had a guy approach me the way he did. ______ was a gentleman, probably a man who I have been missing out on for the past years, and definitely someone I’d just completely messed up on ‘so this is a meet, and fare-well type of meeting.’ was all that replayed in my head, no more meeting, no more fare-well from this man.

Once we landed and I received all my belongings and headed to the exit to hail me a cab. ‘someone well definitely greet you once you’ve land. And if not, I swear I will take another plane to find you tp greet you…’ Ha, someone to greet me once I land? Not a single person even looked me in the eyes since we landed.

“Greetings!” I heard a shouting behind me. Within a second, my arm was pulled back as I walked towards a cab. “It’s me, ______! Wow! What a miracle! Did anyone greet you? Was I the first? Ah, I didn’t need to take another plane just to find you anymore. Oh man, I’m so glad to see you! I guess we were on the same plane!” He quickly opined as he took a long breath. “I knew it was you from behind, but wasn’t sure. So I saw you hailing a cab and….” “My name’s ______,” I assured him with a smile, “I didn’t get to mention my name earlier, my name is ______, and no one greeted me yet, but I was hoping no one would so this man name ______ could fly out to greet me. But I guess you’re the first to greet me, so, hello again, ______.” I chuckled as my cheek burned. “Was that a laugh I heard? I don’t think I heard well, maybe it was hiccups, was it? You know I have water, would you like some?” I couldn’t help but giggled at how charming this man was. “There that’s more like it! ______, your laugh sounds better than your sigh.” He loudly stated as he ruffled my hair. “Well, it’s getting a little late but would you like to join me to some coffee, ______?”

______, the way my name sounded coming out of his mouth was like something words well never be able to define. The way he pronounced it, the way it rolled on his tongue, made me want him to repeat my name over and over again.

“So, is that a…” “Yes, it’s a yes. I would love to have some coffee with you ______ .”
