Sandwiches

Kim Ryeowook tossed and turned in his bedroom. It was already passed 3 am in the morning and he still hadn’t managed to get any sleep, no matter how desperate his body needed it.  It was, of course, difficult for Ryeowook to clear his mind of his thoughts while they were all filled with the events that would come in just a few hours. Today was the day when his close friend, Leeteuk, would leave for his two year military service.

Even though Ryeowook had heard about this day for months, he still always thought that he would have a little more time to spend with his Hyung. More time singing together, dancing together and even drinking together. However, now that this day had arrived Ryeowook couldn’t help but feel uneasy and sad about saying goodbye to Leeteuk. He hated knowing that he probably wouldn’t see him for a couple of months, but even then, it would only be for the day and then Leeteuk would have to return.

Turning over once more, Ryeowook finally gave up on sleeping. Sitting up on, he looked over at the digital clock beside his bed:

3:30 am.

Ryeowook sighed to himself before rustling his hair. Even though it was Leeteuk’s last day, he certainly knew that the last thing Leeteuk wanted to see before going was a depressed and sad Wookie. So he decided to do the one thing he knew best:

Sandwiches.

Slowly making his way out of his bedroom and towards the kitchen, Ryeowook managed to find his way to the light switch and turned it on. With the others members on the 12th floor still all sleeping peacefully, he gently opened the small pantry door and took a loaf of wholemeal bread, a personal favourite, out onto the small table behind him.

Ryeowook then stepped back, considering what other ingredients he would need. Within seconds, a small smile was found upon his face. Almost skipping to the fridge, he opened the door and reached for the next delicious item: strawberry jam. Closing the door of the fridge Ryeowook walked quietly back towards the table and placed the jam next to the bread. Without any hesitation or thought, he grabbed a short knife from the cupboard and began slicing the bread. On each slice that he made, Ryeowook started to spread the strawberry jam over every part of the bread making sure not to leave any pieces untouched.

After placing the last of the now seven completed sandwiches into the lunchbox, Ryeowook quickly placed it into a blue bag and onto a spare shelf in the pantry. Now that he had finished his special present, Ryeowook looked up at the kitchen clock above the fridge. It was almost 4:30 am and finally he started to feel tired. Ryeowook sat down at the small dining table and laid his head onto his arms, gradually falling into sleep.

‘’Ya! Ryeowook,’’ a voice came from behind him disturbing Ryeowook from his relaxing, yet uncomfortable two hour sleep. ‘’Hurry up and come down to the car!''

Ryeowook's eyes flickered open slightly, only to find a familiar face staring back at him. He shook his head a little, tying to rid himself of the sleep as he looked up again. ''Oh Leeteuk!'' A wide grin covering his face, ''You're up early,''

Leeteuk laughed softly to himself, ''I have to leave early, remember? I'm going to military training starting today.''

With that last comment Ryeowook's body shot up, his eyes not wide with shock. ''Really?! Omo! I forgot!'' Ryeowook began scrambling around the kitchen and living room, panicking.

‘’Come on Wookie,’’ Leeteuk said, putting his arm around his shoulders. ‘’The others are all downstairs by the car waiting.’’

‘’Wait!’’ Ryeowook quickly said as he almost ran from Leeteuk’s arms, to the kitchen again. Opening the pantry door, Ryeowook scrambled through the other food items. Leeteuk slowly followed him, confused as to what he was doing.

Finally finding what he wanted, Ryeowook grabbed the blue bag he had put their earlier and quickly hid it behind his back before the other would see anything. ‘’Leeteuk,’’ Ryeowook began, letting out a small cough under his breath. ‘’I thought for a long time, thinking of what I should do as a small ‘’going away’’ gift, so I decided to make your favourite sandwiches.’’ With that last word, Ryeowook pulled the bag in front of him and lifting them up for Leeteuk to see.

‘’Ryeowook!’’ Leeteuk couldn’t help by smile at the younger’s actions. ‘’This is perfect,’’ he took the bag from Ryeowook’s hands and looked inside. ‘’When did you make these?’’

‘’Oh don’t worry about that,’’ he assured, ‘’you can eat them for lunch today,’’

Looking up from the lunch box, Leeteuk suddenly pinched one of Ryeowook’s cheeks. ‘’Let’s go Wookie,’’ he sniffled, trying to keep in his tears so Ryeowook wouldn’t see him cry. Leeteuk turned around and walked to towards the front door, slipped of a pair of his white shoes and smiled quickly at Ryeowook before going out of the door.

Seeing how sad but happy Leeteuk was with the food, Ryeowook couldn’t help but start to cry a little. He was going to miss this. Putting his shoes on, he quickly opened the front door following after Leeteuk as he went downstairs.

Even though I'm not and ELF nor do I read SuperJunior frequently, I thought this was very sweet.
I can tell from the first paragraph that you are a good, developed writer.
Haha, this is something I long to accomplish myself.
I hope Leeteuk will come back safe and sound, with Ryeowook waiting for him. Some untouched friendship ties may break after a long time period, but this one definitely wont. After all, they're family. :)
