Final

[ONE-SHOT] Terminal

Lights were flashing before her eyes, and she couldn't see anything. She had no control over the wheel anymore. Her body wasn't reacting to the way she wanted it to react. What was happening? Why isn't this working? Why aren't you turning, you damn wheel? Turn!

Before she tried to turn the wheel once more, she felt the entire car flip over onto the side. At that moment, she didn't know what was going on. Her mind was empty as she was trying to process what had happened. When she tried to go back into reality, and realize what had just happened, her head ached. She felt like her insides turned out, her body felt sore, and she could feel warm liquid dripping from her head. W-what... just happened... a-ah, my legs... i-it hurts... s-someone help m-me... it's h-heavy... a-ah, my h-head. A-am I dead? Mom, dad, c-can you hear me? Is this w-what dying feels like? A-am I really dead? The warm liquid soon turned into cold liquid, and slowly dripped down from her head, onto the ground, creating a puddle. Red lights started to flash before her, but everything was far too blurry. She could slightly hear the sirens going off, but it was far too distant for her. Slowly, she started to doze off, her eyes closing on her.

"Miss! Miss! Can you hear me! Miss!" someone yelled.

I-is someone there... h-help me... p-please help m-me...

A small grunt escaped Eunhye's lips, and the paramedics started to help her out. They had to cut the seat belt off her, and saw part off the car off because she was trapped underneath. Carefully, they removed her from the car, and placed her on the moving bed, rolling her into the ambulance. Her body laid there, lifeless. Although her heart was still beating, it seemed like she was completely dead. The paramedics asked her if she was okay, no answer. They asked again, still no answer. One of them checked to see if her heart was still beating, and it was.

"It seems like she's unconscious. This is not good, step on it!" they yelled. "Quickly!"

A-ah, why does my head keep throbbing? Someone please help me... take this pain away, I can't tale it anymore... a-ah... it hurts..

They ambulance soon arrived at the emergency room, and they rolled her in as fast as they good.

"Move! Everyone move! Move!" they yelled.

A doctor in his mid 30's ran over to see what happened. "What's wrong with her? What happened?" he asked immediately, examining her wounds.

"She got into a car accident. The entire car flipped over and she was trapped underneath, Dr. Seo. When we got her out, she had a big gash on her head, and it was already bleeding. It seems like she lost an immense amount of blood. She also has cuts all over her body. Some of them are minor cuts, while the others are big slashes. On the way here, I asked her if she was alright, but it seems like she's unconscious." the paramedic explained.

"Okay, Nurse Kim, I want you to cut off her clothes and clean her wounds immediately. Nurse Park, go and get me a few bags of blood type O, if we need more, ask to see if there is anyone willing to donate. Nurse Anh, shave her hair off. After you finish, wheel her into the emergency room." Dr. Seo directed.

"Yes sir." they all said at the same time.

The nurses soon finished their job, and wheeled her into the emergency room along with the surgeons. Eunhye was still unconscious, but right when they wheeled her into the emergency room, her eyes slightly fluttered opened, and all she could see were the glass doors closing behind her, before passing out again.

A few hours later.

"U-ugh... what is this?" Eunhye grunted, opening her eyes slowly, placing her hand on her head. "Why do I have something bandaged around my head?" She looked around the room, curiously, wondering where on earth she was. "What exactly is this place?" she asked herself, sounding half asleep. "And why does my head hurt so much?" She got up, and walked out of her room, looking at her surroundings. "A-am I in the hospital?" she stuttered. "W-what exactly happened to me? W-why can't I remember what happened?" Eunhye started to panic, and without paying any attention to where she was going, she bumped into someone, and they both fell.

"Ah." she groaned. "I'm sorry, I wasn't paying attention to where I was going. Are you okay?" she asked, standing back up.

The guy laughed. "No, it was my fault for not looking, I'm sorry. Were you in a hurry somewhere?" he asked. "It seemed like you were in a rush to get somewhere or something."

Eunhye looked around her again. "No. I'm not sure where I am exactly, or why I'm in these clothes, or why I have this bandaged around my head. Everything's just so confusing right now, and my head really hurts thinking about it, and I just want to go home, but--" she explained without breathing in between sentences, but was cut off by the guy.

"Woah, calm down there." he said chuckling. "First off, you're in a hospital, and as for why you have that thing bandaged around your head, I don't know, but we can go find your doctor and ask him, okay?" he said reassuringly.

All Eunhye could do was nod, and she followed behind him. Why exactly am I here? What even happened to me? How come I don't remember anything? Ugh, and why does my head hurt every time I try to think. Just calm down, this nice man will help you find your doctor, and your questions will be answered. Just one step at a time.

Out of nowhere, Dr. Seo appeared right in front of them.

"Ah! There you are. I was going to check up on you." he smiled, patting her arm. "How are you feeling?"

At that moment, Eunhye wanted to shoot out a bunch of questions at him, but she knew that would get her no where, and he probably wouldn't answer all of them, so instead she asked one. "Why am I in the hospital?"

He looked at her confusedly, but his expression also showed that he was worried. Worried that she probably suffered temporary/permanent memory loss. "Do you not remember what happened the other night?" he asked, walking closer to her.

She shook her head. "No. What did happen, doctor?"

"You were involved in a car crash the other night. It was also a serious one. Reason why you have that--" he said explained, pointing to my head, "around your head."

W-what? A c-car crash...? Images started flashing into her mind. There were people yelling and lights were flashing everywhere; she collapsed to the floor. A-ah, my head, it hurts. Why does it hurt so much? She took both of hands and placed them on both sides of her head. "A-ah, m-my head... i-it hurts so much... s-someone.. h-help me..." she mumbled loud enough for the doctor and the nice guy to hear.

They immediately got down to her level, and asked her if she was alright with anxious expressions spread across their faces.

"Miss, miss." the nice guy exclaimed, helping her back up. "Are you alright? What happened?"

"Eunhye-ssi, Eunhye-ssi, can you hear me? Are you alright?" the doctor asked.

E-Eunhye? Who was that? W-was he talking to me? More images started flashing into her mind. It was of a petite girl, maybe around the age of 10, laughing and smiling, happily. "Ah!" she yelled in pain. "It hurts! Someone please help me stop this pain! Please!" she begged.

The doctor immediately got up and called the nurses. "Nurse Lee! Nurse Anh!" he yelled down the hall.

They came running at a mighty speed, almost breathless by the time they reached him. "Yes doctor?" they breathed.

"Hurry and get this lady a Head CT Scan right now." he directed. The nurses nodded, and guided Eunhye down the hall for the scan, with the doctor and the nice guy following them.

After a few hours later, she was back in her own room again, resting, but this time with someone accompanying her, the nice guy from earlier. He walked over and sat on the edge of the bed, next to her, watching her sleeping.

"I hope you're really okay..." he whispered almost inaudibly, her hair gently, trying not to wake her up. Eunhye stirred in her sleep, and he retreated back to the couch. She opened her eyes slowly.

"Ugh..." she grunted.

He rushed over to her side, and helped her sit up. "Are you feeling better?" he asked softly.

"Not really, but at least the headache went away. That's a bonus, right?" she said quietly.

He chuckled. "That's good to hear. Oh, by the way, I haven't properly introduced myself yet. You've probably been wondering who I was this entire time." he put his hand in front of her, "My name is Byunghun. Lee Byunghun. It's very nice to meet you..." he hesitated on saying her name incase it might give her a headache again.

She let out a small smile, and shook his hand. "It's nice to meet you, Lee Byunghun. I'm guessing you already know my name, huh? Well, I think it's my name since that's what the doctor called me. Was it Eunhye?" she asked unsure if it was her name or not.

He nodded. "Eunhye... that's a beautiful name. Fit for a very beautiful young lady." he smiled.

Eunhye couldn't help but blush slightly at his comment. She could feel her cheeks redden a little, but before she could say anything back, the doctor interrupted her with a knock on the door. "Hi there. Sorry if I'm interrupting anything, but I got your results and I thought maybe you wanted to know, too." Dr. Seo walked over to her side, and pulled a chair over, sitting down. He looked over at Byunghun, then looked at her.

"It's fine. He could stay. It's nice having company." she smiled, nodding. "So what exactly is wrong with me?" she asked, sounding a bit nervous.

"I'm going to be frank with you, you have permanent memory loss." he began explaining.

Her eyes widened, and so did Byunghun's. She couldn't believe it. She didn't want to believe it, but that look on the doctor's face seemed so serious. P-permanent memory loss? Is he being serious? I don't believe this. W-what exactly was he saying?

"You're not joking, right? Cause if you are, this is a lame joke, doctor." Eunhye could feel the tears swelling up in her eyes. She shook her head. "No. This is not right. I can't believe this. I don't want to believe this. You're lying right? Please tell me you're lying!" she yelled, shaking her head furiously. Byunghun walked over to the other side, and sat down next to her, trying to calm her down.

"Calm down, Eunhye. Just listen to the doctor first. He has a lot more to say, so before accusing anyone of anything or jumping to conclusions, let's hear him out first, okay?" the way he spoke to her surprisingly calmed her down. She didn't know why, but she listened to his words. Something about it just made her feel like everything was going to be okay.

She nodded and motioned the doctor to continue.

"Although it's permanent, that doesn't mean you won't remember anything. There is a possible chance where you might remember the basics, as in your name, age, and so forth. From time to time, there might be something that will trigger your memories, so you might experience headaches like you did earlier today. I'm guessing you saw images flashing earlier when I said your name, am I correct?" he asked.

Again, she nodded.

"You might also experience that too, so don't worry too much about it. If the headaches get to the point where it's unbearable, we'll prescribe you some medicine, but for now, we won't. For the time being, we'll keep you in the hospital to check up on you." he finished.

"Okay..." she croaked. "Thank you..."

"No problem, if you need anything, I'll be in my office. Try and get some rest, and don't worry too much." he reassured her, and walked out of the room.

Byunghun was still sitting on the bed, next to her, and surprisingly, she didn't mind. Although by now she would've kicked him off, she didn't. She liked having him there by her side; it made her feel safe.

He turned around, and looked at her. "See? I told you to listen to his explanations, and what happened? He said although it might be permanent, there was a possibility you might remember the basics, and even though it's the basics, you know at least something about yourself. Aren't you glad I was here to calm you down before you went all crazy on him?" he smiled.

Eunhye felt her heart skip a beat. What was happening? Why do I suddenly feel so nervous? She opened to say something, but words wouldn't come out, so all she did was nod.

For the rest of the day, all they did was talk. Nothing more, nothing less. Soon, it was nighttime. Byunghun laid on the couch, while she was lying on her bed. He told her a little bit about himself from his age, to where he was from, and what he liked to do, but he didn't mention why he was in the hospital and why he has something bandaged around his head like she did. Maybe he has something like me? But that's impossible because he remembers everything about himself, while I can't remember anything. Did he get into an accident? Maybe I should ask him, but if he wanted to tell me, he probably would've told me by now. Forget it, if he wants to tell you, he will. Stop wondering about it.

"What are you thinking about?" he asked, looking up at the ceiling.

Crap. Does he know what I'm thinking about? "N-nothing." she stuttered.

He chuckled. Why is he laughing at me? "You're a terrible liar, you know that?"

. I got caught. Eunhye bit her lip, "You knew?"

"I had a feeling." he smiled.

It was quite for awhile. Should I say something? But before she said another word, he said something.

"I have a tumor is my brain." he said so softly. W-what? A tumor? H-how... w-what?

Eunhye tried to open to say something, but he began talking again. "It's been awhile since I've this. Maybe 5 years or 6? Around there. At first when I found out, I immediately got treatment for it. I got better, but then it came back shortly after. Again, I went through treatment. After the second time, I felt much better..." he sighed. "until recently. It came back. Hence this thing bandaged around my head. I had surgery the other day to get it removed, and as of right now..." he turned over to look her. "I feel much better." he smiled. Again. It was that smile again that made my heart skip a beat, and my cheeks redden. But why? Why was he telling me this stuff?

"I'm sorry....." she whispered.

"It's okay. Don't worry about it, I'm use to it by now." he turned around and looked up at the ceiling again.

"Can I ask you something?" she wondered.

"Yeah, go ahead."

"Why did you tell me?"

He hesitated.

"You don't have to tell me if yo--"

"Because I trust you. I felt that I needed to tell you. I'm not sure why, but it's just I feel like you needed to know and that you deserved to know."

She smiled. Eunhye didn't know if she ever felt like this before the accident, but for the first time after it, she felt important. She felt like someone actually cared about her and trusted her.

"It's getting late. Why don't you get some rest, and I'll take you somewhere tomorrow, okay?" he asked, sitting up. Was he leaving already? I didn't want to be alone tonight. Should I ask him to stay? "Goodnight, Eunhye." he said quietly, heading for the door.

"Wait!" she called, "C-can you stay here with me tonight? I-I'm afraid to be alone...."

He slightly laughed.

"Y-yah! Why are you laughing at me?" she questioned.

"Because you're cute, that's why."

C-cute? Did he just say I was cute? Eunhye slightly blushed, and looked down making sure he didn't see her.

"Alright. I'll stay with you tonight, so don't pout." he her hair gently.

She couldn't help it, but a smile crept upon her face. "Goodnight, Byunghun." she muttered.

He leaned down and kissed her forehead. "Goodnight, Eunhye."

D-did he just kiss me? W-what? Byunghun walked over to the couch where he was before, and fell fast asleep. Eunhye on the other hand, was still awake, thinking. He kissed me... it wasn't on the lips, but the forehead. She took her hand, and touched the spot he kissed her. Was this the first time a guy ever kissed me there? Probably. She started to blush again. Why am I feeling like this? Is this the first time I ever felt this... nervous around a guy? Out of curiosity, she sat up and looked at his sleeping expression. He looks so calm. Maybe he's having a good dream? I hope so. Her eyes wondered to his eyes, then slowly down to his sharp nose, and she last landed on his lips. She couldn't help but watch him sleep. He was just so beautiful. I don't think I have ever seen someone this beautiful before the accident. His long lashes, sharp nose, and those lips that kissed my forehead. Did I mention he had a very sharp jawline? Yah, Eunhye. What are you doing? Why are you staring at him? What if he catches you? Immediately, she laid back down, afraid he might catch her staring. Soon after, she fell asleep with one question on her mind, what exactly is this feeling? But who knew the entire time she was staring at him, he was awake. He felt a pair of eyes stare at him, and he didn't want to scare her, so he pretend to be asleep. After she lied back down, he smiled. And soon enough, the night passes by just like that.

Over the next few days, Eunhye would always spend her time with Byunghun, and he did the same. He would be right next to her when she had her checkups, and occasionally he would take her outside for fresh air. These past few days were the happiest days for Eunhye since her accident. She was always smiling and laughing at his corny jokes or cheesy remarks. He knew how to make her smile.

One day, Byunghun had his checkup. She offered to go with him, but he told her it was okay. She argued back saying it was fine, but he insisted she stay back.

"Just stay here and rest up, okay? I'll be fine. Plus, I want to show you something later tonight, so stay here and be a little good princess, okay?" Princess... he called me princess. Eunhye nodded, and he kissed her forehead. Byunghun headed to the door, but turned around quickly and mouth I"ll be back. In the end, she fell asleep.

At the doctor's office

"Have a seat, Mr. Lee." the doctor motioned him to sit down. His expression is serious. I knew it. I knew this was going to happen. Might as well face it now.

"Just tell me what is it." Byunghun said seriously.

"Alright, if that's what you wish for." the doctor hesitated., "Your tumor came back, and this time it's worse than before. At this point it's called a malignant, and it's deadly. Taking treatments won't help it, and I'm afraid you don't have much time left. I suggest you inform your family members so they can be prepared."

Why am I not shocked about this? Why aren't I making a scene? Maybe it's because I knew this was coming. I knew this was going to happen soon, but I didn't want to believe it. I wanted to wait until the doctor said something, then I'd believe it. But what am I going to tell Eunhye? It's not fair to her. I don't want her to be upset by something stupid like this. No, I can't tell her.

"Okay... I understand doctor, but could you do me a favor? Please don't tell Eunhye. Make sure the other nurses don't say anything either. I don't want to see her hurt." he instructed before making an exit.

"May I ask as to why?" the doctor said.

"Because I love her."

Later that night

"Knock knock." someone said, knocking. Eunhye smiled, knowing exactly who it was.

"Come in!" she called out.

"Are you ready?" he asked.

She nodded, and got up, walking over to him. "Where exactly are you taking me?"

He leaned down and whispered, "Surprise." his voice sent shivers down her body, and immediately made her legs weak. See the effect he has on me? I don't know what I'd do without him.

"O-okay." she managed to say.

Soon they arrived at the top of the hospital, and he lead her out to the rooftop.

Eunhye stepped through the doors, and her eyes immediately widened. As soon as the doors opened and she stepped outside, there were lights everywhere. Lights that look like stars to be exact.

"Byunghun...."

"Do you like it?"

She smiled, and pulled him into a tight embrace. "I absolutely love it. Thank you, for everything actually. For making me smile, for make me laugh, and for making these past few days the happiest days of my life. I don't know how I can ever thank you enough."

He chuckled, and snuggled closer into her neck. "I have a way you can repay me."

"Hm?"

"Dance with me. Right here, right now. Dance with me." he sounded serious, but Eunhye couldn't help but giggle.

"Dance? That's it? And I thought it was something big."

He shook his head. "Nope, that's it."

"Okay, but there's no music."

"Ah, and that's where you're wrong."

All of a sudden, music started playing. She looked around to see where the music was coming from, but she didn't see anything.

He pulled away from their embrace, and bowed. "Hello there miss. You seem kind of lonely tonight. Would you care to dance with a man like me perhaps?"

She laughed. "And if I say no?"

Out of nowhere, he pulled her into a tight embrace, and whispered, "Well I guess I have to do this then, do I?" making her body shiver, and legs weak again. She didn't even bother to fight back, and agreed to dance. And like that, another night passes by.

Eunhye woke up abruptly the next morning, sweat dripping down her forehead. "Ugh... it was just a bad nightmare..." was what she told herself, but inside her gut, she felt weird. Like something bad happened. After they parted ways last night, she went back to her room to sleep, and he went back to his. Although she asked if he could stay, he said that he'll be there right when she wakes up. Eunhye looked around, but saw no one. I wonder where he is? Being a curious person she is, she got up and headed to his room, but to her surprise he wasn't there. Where could he be? She walked back out, and found a nurse walking by.

"Excuse me, nurse!" she called out.

"Yes, miss?" she asked.

"I was wondering, where did the patient Lee Byunghun go? Have you seen him."

The nurse's expression dropped. D-did something happen to him?

"Umm... I don't know if I should tell you this or not...."

"Just tell him. I'm a close friend of his." Eunhye said with a serious look on her face.

"Mr. Lee passed away last night from a tumor. It got worse--" before the nurse could even finish, she ran to go find the doctor like there was no tomorrow, tears dripping from her eyes. P-passed away? T-tumor? It came back? Why didn't he tell me anything? why didn't he say anything!? Why!? How could you just leave me like this?! Did I mean nothing to you?! Didn't you say you trusted me?! Why! Why!

She saw absolutely nothing in front of her, and continued to run. Eunhye's mind was filled with questions and confusion. She couldn't stop crying, and everything became blurry, until she bumped into the doctor.

"Woah, watch where yo-- Eunhye-ssi? Is that you? Why are you crying?" the doctor asked worriedly.

"B-Byunghun... w-where is he... w-what happened to him.. p-please tell me i-it's not true.. please..." she muffled in between her tears and sniffles.

The doctor's expression dropped just like the nurse from earlier. "Eunhye-ssi, listen to me, alright?" he asked.

She slightly nodded, and he pulled out something from his pocket. I-is that a letter?

"Mr. Lee wanted me to give this to you after he passed away. I feel like you should read this instead of having me tell you everything."

She took the letter from his hands, thanked him, and walked outside. She sat down on a bench, still crying, but she was able to see stuff in front of her this time. Eunhye opened the letter carefully, and opened it up.

Dear My Little Prinncess,

I think by now you probably heard what happened to me; I passed away. It's weird how I'm actually saying this myself, but I knew this was coming soon. Even if the doctors didn't say anything, I probably would've figured. Since the day I met you till the day I die, I was and will always be the happiest man on earth. You gave feelings that I never felt before, and I was able to genuinely smile while being around you. You're probably wondering why I didn't tell you, right? That reason being, I didn't want you to worry about me. I didn't want you to suffer what I was suffering, pain. I couldn't bare to see you sad cause that would hurt me even more. I figured that maybe if I pass away quietly, you'll forget about me, and that maybe writing this letter, telling you was easier, but I guess not. Please, don't be sad because of me. The memories we made together, I will always cherish it in my heart, and I hope you do too, if not, I understand. I hope that you're able to move on without me, and find someone who will make you happy like I did. I love you, Eunhye. Since the moment I laid eyes on you, I love you, and I will always love you. Take care, my little princess. I'll always be watching over you, protecting you.

P.S. If you haven't seen it yet, I bought you a little gift. I hope you like it.

Love, Lee Byunghun.

Tears were now flowing out of her eyes, and everything became blurry again. She could feel her cheeks soaked with her tears while she began looking inside the envelope again. In the corner, she pulled out a silver necklace, shaped like the start lights he lit up for her. Eunhye felt something on the back, so she turned it around and the star was initialed 'LB.' For the rest of the day, she sat there, crying. No one bothered her. Not even the doctors.

Why! Why! Why did you have to leave me... I didn't even get to say one thing I wanted to say most...

I love you, Lee Byunghun.
