Tutorial 21: Picture Inside of Text with a Border
Gimp 101This tutorial is going to show you how to add a border to your image text, like this:
1. Follow steps 1-6 from this tutorial. Stop at step 6, don’t go any further on that tutorial and start here.
2. Now go up to File > New. Since my image is 225 (width) x 57 (height) I’m going to make this new image to be about 250 (width) x 75 (height). Since my foreground color is black, I’m going to make black be my border color. Here are the settings I used for the new canvas:
If you don’t want to use black as your border color, you can just open up a new blank white canvas and fill the canvas in with the color of your choice.
3. Now click on the tab that has your image text. It should be the very first tab. Make sure the text is still selected and delete the text layer on the layer palette. Go to your keyboard and hit CTRL + C, you can also just go up to Edit > Copy. Click on the second tab with the colored canvas. Hit CTRL + V or go up to Edit > Paste as New Layer.
4. The pictured text should be selected on the canvas, like this:
Move the Clipboard layer to the center of the canvas. Right click on the Clipboard layer in the layer palette and click on Alpha to Selection. Now click on the background layer and make the rectangle go away from the pasted layer. The text should still be selected though. Go up to Select > Grow a
