Meeting Exo

A thousand words (HIATUS)

A/N: I really don`t know if Kai or anyone else in exo prefers to be called by their stage names but for the sake of the story I choose to go with that, also the personalities of the members are how I interpret them. I`m not that great at analyzing peoples personalities so if the exo members does something in this story that seems out of character, please bear with it.

I kind of froze. Quite unexpectedly, sure I got anxious and nervous quite easily but I never completely froze.  However this time was somehow different and as Mr. Park rounded up the boys into a straight line in front of me I could do little else but stand still, give a slight not and a awkward smile as I tugged at the side of my long skirt with one hand and pulled at the strap of my bag with my other.

“Alright boys I`ll introduce your new assistant manager to you. Miss Lee Hye-Mi.” Mr. Park said as he gestured towards me with a big smile.  I smiled weakly at him before turning my gaze toward the young boys who to be honest didn`t look like they were much older than me. Taking a deep breath I finally mustered up enough courage to speak.

“Well as Mr. Park said my name is Lee Hye-Mi but please call me Hye-Mi.” I looked at the boys and smiled once again as I felt myself gaining more and more courage from their encouraging bright smiles. “I will be assisting your current managers and also work as your translator when you do promotions overseas.” I bowed after finishing my sentence and inhaled deeply while my head was still lowered before slowly raising it again. Mr. Park wasted no time on me and continued to gesture towards the boys.

“Come on boys, introduce yourselves, and not just your stage names but your birth names as well.”  He tilted his eyebrows slightly as some of the boys let a small sigh escape their lips, none the less they started the introductions.  The boy on the farthest left and also closest to me was the one who softly cleared his throat, signaling that he would start. I looked at him and tried to take in as much as I could about his appearance so I could more easily remember his name later on. He was one of the shorter members but he had one of the kindest looking faces.

“I`m Suho the leader of Exo-K. My birth name is Kim Joon Myeon but I`d prefer it if you called me Suho”  He smiled kindly at me and I let a small smile and a nod escape my nervous posture before turning my gaze towards the boy next to Suho.  A boy with jet black hair and sharp eyes looked at me as he seemed almost shy before speaking.

“I`m the youngest member of Exo-M, Tao.”  Another shy smile spread across his lips and I couldn`t help but think that it did not suit the first impression I got first of him being one of the more fierce and possibly almost scary members.  I nodded, unable to bring myself to smile due to the slight shock of his obvious appearance and personality gap.

“Hello, I`m Baekhyun from Exo-K” The next boy said brightly as he smiled and turned towards his neighbor, obviously eager to get the introductions over with, or just eager.  The boy next to him did not seem to share his friends’ enthusiasm as he said rather blankly.

“I´m Sehun the youngest member of Exo-K.”  Sehun gave a slight bow before trying to flash me a small smile but somehow he seemed to grow tired of the effort and ended up just staring. “First impressions, first impression”  I thought to myself as I tried to convince myself that he wasn`t this..blank of a person in reality and that is was just my first impression of him.  Shaking my head slightly I turned towards the next person in line

“I`m Kim Min Seok or as others call me Xiumin from Exo-M” He gave a nod and a small pout like smile which I returned with a quick nod.

“I`m Luhan from Exo-M” The boy, or angel, next to him said with the softest smile I`d ever seen before. He really did seem like an angel with his blonde hair and soft features.   Unaware of the effect the young boy had on me I kept staring at his face until the deep voice of the next member forced me to shift my gaze.

“I`m Wu Fan or Kris, the leader of Exo-M” He was tall, and I mean really tall, and very handsome. He looked very confident as his smile twisted into a cocky grin. My gaze moved faster from Kris than it had from Luhan and I examined the shorter boy next to him. He looked kind, that was the very first impression I got, kindness, it almost surrounded him like an invisible aura or something. His smile was also one of the kindest and warmest ones.

“Hello, I`m Chen from Exo-M. My birth name is  Kim Jong Dae” He shyly smiled and looked at me briefly before turning his gaze towards the floor and then towards Kris who surprisingly in return smiled back, as if telling his friend that he did well with the introduction.  I held back a small laugh and focused on the one next in line.

“Hello I`m Do Kyung Soo from Exo-K but please call me D.O” His politeness took me a little by surprise but I nodded towards him none the less and accidentally looked him in the eyes while doing so.  D.O definitely gave the definition big round eyes a new meaning since he pretty much was the definition of it. He was unbelievably adorable. I could not get too lost in his eyes for too long though since the boy next to him spoke.

“I`m Zhang YiXing from Exo-M, please call me Lay” Calling him a boy would be an understatement as he was one of the manlier members in the group, at least by looks. He looked lie the type that would protect his girlfriend no matter what, and the smile he flashed me only strengthened my theory that he would be unbelievably gentle with the people he loved.  I nodded towards him and tried to hide my flushing cheeks as I turned towards the two last boys.

“I`m the dancing machine Kai.”  The boy with slightly darker skin said and the boy next to him quickly interrupted him, I recognized him as the one I`d asked directions from earlier that same day.

“His real name is Kim Jongin though.”  Kai glared slightly at the boy beside him before heaving a small sight and muttering.

“Yes, but please call me Kai” I nodded, not too sure if I should smile at him or not. My thoughts were interrupted however by the last one in line, who once again captured me easily with his deep husky voice that still didn`t fit his childlike features.

“I`m Chanyeol the rapper of Exo-K” He smiled, that childish smile that seemed to trademark his entire character along with his voice, and I couldn`t help but smile back at him while nodding respectfully.  Since the introductions were over Mr. Park wasted no time moving on.

“well then, I assume you boys still have practice to get back too so I`ll just ask where you put the box of overseas fan letters that needed translating.” He clapped his hands together slightly as he stared in anticipation at the boys. The majority of them seemed confused though as they kept glancing at their neighbors in hopes that one of them knew what he was talking about. Luckily the boy with the deer like eyes, D.O, stepped forward.

“Oh, I put them in the corner over there.” He pointed towards the far end of the room towards five boxes that seemed to overflow with letters. Once again Mr. Park turned to me and smiled brightly.

“Perfect, now I hope you don`t have anything else planned for the day. I`d actually like you to get started right away with translating the fan letters the boys receive from overseas fans. Some of them are actually written in Korean but it`s not actually…” He paused for a moment as if hesitation on whether he should continue or not “..well they`re not actually readable, but thankfully all letters have a English version attached to it so Your first task will be to translate the letters for the boys. They`re very keen on reading all the letters they get you see.” I simply nodded as I glanced at the boxes, translating all of that would take me the rest of the day and probably the whole night too.

“Great, well then you stay here and get started. I imagine it will be better for you to work close to the boys from now on to get to know them more since you will hopefully be working together for a long time. and it would be great if this was all finished by today as well, you`ve got a few other tasks to deal with tomorrow” He gestured casually towards the boxes.

“Yes, I understand.” I replied softly as I moved towards the corner and slid the bags of my shoulders next to them with a thud. Mr. Park looked at me and nodded approvingly before making a hasty exit calling out something along the lines of “I`ve got work, bye.” over his shoulders.  I sighed as I looked at the task before me, it would take time, a lot of time. But as I glanced over my shoulders I noticed that the exo boys had already started preparing for their next practice by turning on the music for one of their songs, so I turned back to the boxes and moved them around a little so that they formed a circle around me as I sat down in the corner with my back against the wall.  Ruffling around in my bag a little I pulled out a note pad and a pencil before I grabbed the top letter in one of the boxes and began reading the slightly broken English and then translating it into Korean.  After finishing each letter translation I made sure to place the original letter back in the envelope along with the translation before moving on to the next one.

I got so lost into translating that I didn`t even notice how the music stopped and the boys once again took a small break. Not until a water bottle was placed in front of my face, blocking my view on the fan letter and the words I was currently translating.

“Wha-“ I began as I looked up at whoever it was that had interrupted my work in progress.  However my words were cut of as my eyes landed on the smiling face of exo-Ks leader, Suho.

“Oh, um thank you.” I cleared my throat quickly as I reached out and grabbed the bottle while Suho yet again flashed me a smile.

“You should come join us in our break; I think most would agree it would be better to get to know our new manager and translator a little better.” He offered kindly as he gestured towards the group of boys behind him who were all sprawled out on the floor and to be honest didn`t look very talkative at the moment. I glanced back at Suho before smiling up at him.

“I think I`m just going to stay here, I need to finish this.” I gestured towards the remaining three and a half boxes of letters in front of me. Suho pouted slightly, seeming almost disappointed, but then he shrugged his shoulders slightly and smiled softly at me.

“Well if you change your mind just come talk to us anytime.” And with that he turned around and walked back to the others. He rested his back against the wall furthest away from me and slid down to a sitting position next to the boy I remembered was called Kai. Kai muttered something to Suho who shook his head slightly before opening his own water bottle and taking a few sips of water. Kai nodded in response to Suhos answer and then he surprisingly turned his eyes to me. I quickly turned away and began re focusing on my assignment, dead set on finishing it all before the end of the day. But as I glanced at my wristwatch and noticed it was already 17.30 and I`d only managed to finish one and a half box in five hours I highly doubted I`d be anywhere near completion by the end of the day.  I sighed heavily before I took a few sips of my water and then got back to work; unaware of the fact that a few pairs of eyes kept stealing glances my way.

Exo finished their practice close to  03.48 and by then I had about 1 box left, my pace had significantly dropped as I grew more and more tired with each passing hour. But I still knew I needed to finish everything before I went back home. It wasn`t like anyone was waiting for me at home anyway so I wasn`t really in any hurry to get home.  So as the exo members begun packing up their stuff end headed for the door I quickly rose to my feet and bowed at them.

“You`ve worked hard today” I flashed them a bright but still tired smile before I sat down again, impatient to get my own work over and done with. Don`t get me wrong, I loved the fact that `d gotten a new job, but I still had my limits as a human being.  As I had resumed my position on the ground and picked up my pen and paper again I felt like someone was watching me. So I carefully lifted my gaze and found the majority of exo staring down at me, with the exception of Sehun and Luhan who seemed distracted by ruffling through Sehuns backpack, probably searching for a lost item of some sort.

“Yes?” I questioned carefully as I felt my cheeks turn redder by the second,  a girl can only keep her professionalism for so long when she has ten attractive boys staring at her for no apparent reason.

“You`re not going home?”  Chen asked as he raised an eyebrow and  looked at me. I shook my head slowly.

“No I still have work to finish, but don`t worry about me, you all should go home. You`ve worked much harder than I have and you need your rest.” I said reassuringly as I motioned for them to proceed towards the door. They looked really hesitant to my great surprise.

“You should rest too, and it`s dangerous for a girl to go home late at night by herself.”

“My boyfriend will come pick me up.” I lied quickly as I looked straight at Lay who`d been the one to voice his worries.” He lives nearby so it`s no worries really.” I continued as I swallowed hard to try and calm my own nerves. Somehow I got the feeling that unless I had told that lie these boys would have stayed with me, or continued to worry about me even though we`d just met.  I was no great liar though so I nervously moved my gaze from Lay`s eyes and towards the paper in my lap. “So you should all really go home now, as I said you need the rest.” And with that I begun translating again, avoiding all eye contact with the members in front of me and focusing all my energy and attention on the words on the paper.  It seemed like forever before I finally heard the sound of several footsteps echoing away towards the doors and then the sound of a door opening. The last thing I heard before the door slammed shut was Lay who said.

“Just be careful on your way home. We`ll see you tomorrow” and then only dead silence surrounded me and I let out a deep sight.  I closed my eyes briefly and leaned my head against the wall.

“Great start Hyemi, lying to the people you`re going to work with from now on.” I muttered under my breath as I opened my eyes again and stared at the ceiling.  As I stared at the white boards above me I couldn`t help but realize how incredibly tired I was and how heavy my body was. It was practically impossible to move at all. I felt my heavy eyelids slowly slide down over my eyes and I found myself thinking.

“Just for one minute.” And then I slowly felt how reality faded away and I let my consciousness be swallowed whole by the darkness that came with the desperately needed but still unwanted sleep.
