It was spring that day, I was on the park, the scent of the cherry blossoms and the cool breeze

Makes me feel a deeper excitement  to tell him the good news.

Now he has arrived, wearing a leather jacket, yes he suits it  very well

“Why did you call me so early?” he said with a very calm voice then sat beside me

My hands are quivering  ,I can’t say a word, I’m scared

“Is there something happened?” He put  his palm on my cold cheeks

I hesitated but it’s his right to know it

“Kai, I’m pregnant with you” Tears flowed down , I’m afraid what if he’ll leaves me? Or deny me?

I can’t live ,no, without him I’m nothing

Then he dragged me into a tight embrace “Then why are you crying” He asked

Then  He giggled, is he happy?

“Is it okay with you?” I curiously asked

Then he broke the hug “Of course, Vivien! That’s a gift, a wonderful gift” He smiled at me sweetly

That feeling of acceptance even you got stumbled. I could say  , he’s the man that can make me happy forever, yes he is.

 

 

So we decided to get marry. They say this is the best thing that will happen to you ,to start a new life with your man.

 

I was wearing an alluring cream wedding dress, my hands are cold ,but when Kai will extend his hands at the altar later ,I know it’ll be warmed up.

Mom and Dad can’t help but to cry a bit ,their only girl is a woman now.

Today was a fairytale, a very fascinating event

is this what really feels like ? Butterflies on my stomach, and my heart as if will jumped out.

 I’m so excited to walk into the aisle and say ‘I do ’ .

 

When we arrived at the church ,I was still inside the car ,my Mom and Dad went out first.

But the guests were outside ,  Wae?

My dad opened the car’s door, I curiously look at my Mom in tears then kneeled in front of me

“Omma, Wae?” I wiped off her tears

“My child  ”She took my hand then kissed it “Kai had fallen back. The event was canceled”

After hearing those words ,as if the heaven threw a large stone and buried me down ALIVE.

My tremulous  hands, trembling voice, shattering heart and teary eyes asked my MOM “Omma,Wae?Wae?”

I buried my face on my Mom’s shoulder and started crying

That Day…. I will never forget…. Because that day, I died and was reborn as a new Vivien,

As a mother

 

 

 

After 3 months

God has given me the best gift ever

Even there are some bad rumors, critisms , mimics around me ,I DON’T CARE .

I went into the grocery

“Ahjumma, how much this apples?” I humbly asked her

“It’s  100 won per kilo my child”

“Ahh..give me a kilo ahjumma”

She handed me the plastic bag with apples saying  “I think it’s a girl”

I sweetly smiled at her as a response “I don’t know yet” as I rubbed my stomach

Since I got time, I went to the hospital and undergo ultrasound, wouldn’t that be good?!

In the line, I was the youngest among the pregnant moms

I’m very proud

 

When the doctor happily told me that  ,it is a girl I was very glad,I got a princess.

 

 

When I went out and walking at the corridor, there are cute childrens playing around

Then suddenly the sliding door opened and an ahjumma went out

“Auntie?” I called out

It’s Kai’s Mom, she was wiping her wet eyes and when she saw me, I can’t explain the way she stares at me

It looks like scared, concern, and sad

I bowed and greeted her, even so Kai made a mistake I can’t hate his parents ,because they are my family too

“Long time no see my child” She approached me then cried but kept the smile on her face

“Uh..uh…ye-yes auntie. How are you?” I touched her cheeks then comforted her with a smile

“I’m so sorry Vivien! “ She touched my stomach “I’m sorry too my grandchild”

The way she laid her hands beneath my stomach I felt a different feeling ,is that happiness?

Well I think so my child is happy

 

 

She invited me to go inside at the room and saw a guy with a bonnet sleeping peacefully

But when I got to recognize him well

“Kai?” my heart sank, my vision got blurred with tears

“He’s sick Vivien. He got leukemia.” Auntie sadly told me as she supported me from falling down

I covered my face “So this is the reason why he left me?”

“Yes” a deep voice answered

I looked up and Kai was awaken

“I chose to leave you rather than feel sad to watch me suffer.” I know he’s just trying to stop his cry or tear

“Pabo!! “ I just whispered looking at his eyes

“So, what you want me to do then? To stay with you and let you do take care of me while you’re pregnant?

Or to get nervous when something bad happens to me? Or to cry all night watching me and can’t do anything?

NO Vivien!! As if little by little it is killing me if that happens ,so I wanted you to move on and be happy that’s all” He explained calmly  he bit his lower lips then closed his eyes

“Then if that happens ,as if I am dying also. You know it, you are my life Kai .I can’t face all of these without you.

Yes, I can’t do anything ,I can’t cure you, but did you ever think it would be better if you just married me and spend every single day together? You always consider the feelings of others ,you always sacrifice ,but nothing is left for yourself. Please fight, even not for me ,just for yourself ,family, and to our child” I slowly walked towards him and sat in bed

“I did that because I love you” Kai looked down and started to cry

I embraced him tightly , he cough while crying

“Don’t worry Vivien will be here forever ”I buried my face on his shoulder

 

We want to start again

 

*  Every single day, they never wasted it. They sing, eat together, or visit some places they used to go before.

Life is too short ,but if you will manage your time well, the given period of you is enough.

                                          

One day, when Vivien went to the hospital, she found no one at Kai’s room except a note

‘Go to the Church Now’

She was panicking

As she arrived at the place ,she saw Kai in his wheelchair waiting at the altar

He smiled at her

Vivien feel relieved ,and slowly walked into the aisle

Yes as if they are getting married,

as she reached Kai. He extended his hands, and offered her a ring

“Vivien do you take Kai, as your husband for richer ,for poorer, for better ,for worst?”

“Till death do us part,I DO” that sweet answer that they’ve been waiting for

At last, they got married

They are still in the church exchanging sweet words

“You said our baby is a girl right?” OUR, yes that feeling of fulfillment . They are both very happy.

“Yes, why?”

“What will we name her?” He rubbed her tummy and Vivien blushed

“You know Kai, since the day I told you that I was pregnant, I’ve been writing our story.

And I mentioned there the name I would like to give to her” She looked in her stomach and touched it

“KAIEN” she gladly said to him

A very captivating and unique name

A child who will be very humble and loving person, that’s is what they wish for her

 

AFTER 5 MONTHS

“Don’t worry Mrs. We’ll do our best” The doctor said to Vivien as they were preparing for the equipments  needed for the operation.

Vivien can feel the pain of labor ,it really is difficult .

Kai on the other hand was on his room ,laying on his bed with him a rosary and staring at his window

 

Every cut, moan, sweat and tears, she bared all of it for she so much love her child

‘KAI………KAIEN’ the thing that keeps repeating on her mind

 

After some minutes

A cry of a baby was heard all over the operating room

“Oh it’s a girl mother” The nurse happily told her

“Can I have her” She feels so weak

and kisses her baby’s forehead “I LOVE YOU  MY CHILD”

The nurse took the baby to clean and to wrap it with clothes

When exactly Vivien let go of her hands on Kaien , she closed her eyes with a peaceful smile

 

 

“Sir Kai,I’ve heard your wife successfully gave birth into a girl, congrats =)” The nurse that taking care of him said cheerfully

“I’m so glad she did it.” he smiled happily  “I want to take a rest now ,I LOVE YOU KAIEN”

Kai fell the rosary on his lap and closed his eyes with tears

 

Both of them passed away at the same time. Vivien lost so much blood ,water and energy  during her labor and giving birth, while Kai, it is already his time  for him to leave the world ,sadly they left Kaien alone

 

But I grew up as a very kind-hearted person, who study hard and has respect to others.

Now I am living with my Aunt. I am now in college taking the course ,Medicine.

Mom, Dad I have a good life now ,as you wished, but you know ,it will be more happy if you are still here with me

But I know, you are very proud of me, right?

Your love story will live forever and remains in my heart as the witness of the true meaning of LOVE*

 

 

AUTHOR:

Kaien told the whole story in front of the Harvard University Students as a proud loving daughter of Kai and Vivien. At first if you noticed it was Vivien’s POV then became a narrative.

It means the POV part is the section where Vivien wrote the story of her and Kai but since  Vivien wasn’t able to write after she gave birth to Kaien, so it was been dictated by the people who witnessed the last events (like their parents,doctors and nurses)

 

Kai and Vivien’s dreams were been continued by their daughter.

Vivien is a good example in aspect of being determined and brave, that even she fell for many times she never mind the pain and continued walking firmly. Kai is the example of being martyr and kind ,that he even don’t mind his self as long as the others are happy he feel contented for that. Kaien is the example of a brave and vigilant person ,that even she lost her parents early, this was not been the reason for her to stop dreaming instead, she used it as an inspiration to achieve her goals.

 

Don’t be sad,for this is only the beginning of the end.
