[ONESHOT] Words Can't Describe Our Love

Description

The love of these two didn't need words to connect these souls together.

Foreword

On a cold, bitter night at Yoo So Young Memorial Hospital, one nurse was unfortunately privileged with the graveyard shift yet again for the 5th night in a row. Pushing a food cart down the hall to the kitchen area, Nurse Kim Jung Ah returned the empty cart back and plopped herself into one of the red chairs seated at the table in the back of the dining area to make sure any other nurses or doctors didn't caught her slacking off. Throwing her tired neck back in exhaustion, she closed her eyes and drifted off into a world of dreams away from emergencies, constant shouts of panic, people rushing in and out of slamming doors, and heart monitors sounding as if they're frequently malfunctioning due to having to revive the patients that sneak out of consciousness. However, her one moment of peace was interrupted by her rambunctious coworker.

JooYeon:'Yah, unnie...if I can't sleep, what makes you think you can go to sleep?!' She loudly stated in Jung Ah's ear, making her flinch with alert.

Jung Ah:'Aish~~Joopal. I was enjoying that nap.' She said while groggily rubbing her eyes and getting back into the position she had when she drifted off to sleep.
JooYeon:'I know. Sorry. I can't believe they have you working the graveyard shift for the 5th night in a row. That's torture for anyone.' She patted her older friend's hair gently.
Jung Ah:'I know. One touch and I'm gonna fall over dead. Next thing you know, they'll be trying to revive me from off a hospital bed.' She joked, but her voice indicated the tiredness within her.
JooYeon:'Think about this way. It's only 3:40. Only about 3 more hours until you're off.' She reassured.
Jung Ah:'And how I can't wait for 6:00 to hit.' She stated with a hint of excitement present in her voice.

She wasn't excited for being off work, it was more like being excited because she would finally get to return home and crash onto her bed until her normal shift around 4:30 pm began. Her celebration time was cut short because the doctor she worked under had just walked into the dining area and caught her and JooYeon not fulfilling their nursing duties.

??:'Well, well, looks like I've found two lazy bunnies goofing off.' She said with a sort of b*tchiness in her tone.
JooYeon:'Dr. Son DamBi, annyeonghaseyo.' She quickly got up from her chair and deeply bowed, knocking her chair over.
DamBi:'Nurse JooYeon, please sit down as you're not the one that should be bowing to apologize. Isn't that right, Nurse Jung Ah?" She spat out her name as if it was a curse word.
Jung Ah:'....Annyeonghaseyo DamBi unnie.' She slowly bowed withlaziness.
DamBi:'IT IS DR. DAMBI!!! DON'T FORGET THE HONORIFIC." She shouted in Jung Ah's face, tiny particles of spit traveling across the air and landing onto Jung Ah' s weary face.
Jung Ah:'Sorry, Dr. DamBi.' She bowed yet again.
DamBi:'Hmph! I think another graveyard shift might put you back in your place, Nurse Jung Ah. And not only that, I'm reassigning you to another patient.' She looked down at her clipboard to review the info on the new patient she had just recieved.
DamBi:'You are to take care of the patient stationed in 414. Her name is Park Ji Young. Says here that her vocal cords were damaged in a car accident, got caught in the windshield. The operation she had two weeks ago saved her life, but literally left her speechless.'
JooYeon:'Left her speechless? She can't talk?'
DamBi:'I'm afraid not. Reports say that the doctor that did operate on her made a mistake and crushed her larynx. We are running test to see if an operation can be done to repair the larynx without possibly further damaging the rest of tissue. Nurse Jung Ah I suggest you already make your way up there to see her if you wanna make me happy. HOP TO IT!' She shouted before strutting away.
Jung Ah:'She is such a pain on the ears and in the .' She digged into her ear canal to unclog it of DamBi's threatening voice.
JooYeon:'Whoever this Park Ji Young person is, I feel sad for her having to lose her voice because one of the many irresponsible, malpractice doctors here.'
Jung Ah:'I better head up there before DamBi comes back for Round 2.' She rose up and began walking.
JooYeon:'If you want, I'll go with you unnie.' She offered.
Jung Ah:'No it's okay. I don't wanna hold you up from your job and have both Dr. Yoojin and Dr. DamBi on my . Bye!' She greeted goodbye before entering a nearby elevator.

After the elevator made it's stop to the 4th floor, Jung Ah slothfully stepped out of the elevator and walked down the quiet hallway. This was a surprise to her. Never in her 4 years of working at the hospital did she think she would witness one part of the hospital that was not flooded with assistants and doctors. Pacing herself, she timidly walked down the hallway, passing by 401, 402, and so on until she had to turn at the right corner to find 414. Her heart thumped with anticipation as she saw that she passed by Rooms 412 and 413 until 414 hit her directly inbetween her chestnut brown eyes. Hesitant, she released a gigantic sigh from her small body and cracked the door open to see the lights off in the room with the light emitting from the TV showing the profile of a blonde haired maiden peeking out. Fully opening the door now and turning the room light on, it attracted the attention of the blonde hair lass, her foxlike eyes focused on the unclosed, creaking door.

Young Lady:'Annyeonghaseyo.' She rose up from the purple hospital couch and humbly bowed to Jung Ah.
Jung Ah:'Annyeonghaseyo. My name's Nurse Kim Jung Ah. I've been reassigned to here. Park Ji Young?' She looked up at the young lady and followed the direction the girl was pointing at.

Turning to her left, she was met with the stony, icy gaze of a seemingly young but attractive woman, donning wavy, auburn hair. Her skin, that wasn't ccovered by the sky blue hospital bed cover and gown, was a porcelain color with tints of pink in her face, showing such strong vitality coursing through her veins. Needless to say, it didn't look like there was anything wrong with the woman other than the angry disposition bestowed on her face. Feeling intimidated, Jung Ah inched towards the woman, not showing any signs of her fear for the woman, but her hands were trmbling the clipboard enough to broadcast her feelings.

Jung Ah:'Annyeonghaseyo, I'm Kim Jung Ah, your new nurse. Nice to meet you Park Ji Young.' She stretched her hand out for the woman to shake it as a sign of fomality, but the woman barely moved an inch.

The woman just kept staring at Jung Ah, who was feeling more and more discomfort by the second, until she averted her gaze to the TV, watching Secret Garden. Before Jung Ah tried to covnerse with the woman one more time, the younger lady in the room spoke up.

??:'Kahi unnie. Don't treat all the nurses and doctors rude.' She scolded the older lady.

The woman just turned her head to the very tall young lady and stared at her for about 5 seconds until she looked back at the drama displayed on TV.

??:'It's okay. I forgive you.' She outspoke with a smile plastered on her face.

On the other hand, Jung Ah was at a lost. She didn't know whether the young lady standing behind needed to be in the bed instead of the patient or if the patient whispered her apology to the younger lady before returning back to watching TV. Wanting to stop feeling lost, Jung Ah turned to face the lady standing behind her.

Jung Ah:'Wait, wait, wait. She didn't say anything. Why are you forgiving her?' She asked, perplexed.
??:'Hehehe. See, I've known unnie for a long time, about 10 years. Unnie's been not only a sister to me but damn near like a father to me. Our relationship is so close that I know how she feels right now and sometimes what's she would probably say or think.' She revealed.
Jung Ah:'Really? How is she feeling now?' She crossed her arms, questioning whether or not the young lady can really do that by looking at someone.
??:'Well for starters, she's been glaring back and forth at you from the TV out the corner of her eye, so she's still mad about the failed operation she had and judging from the frown and slightly scrunched up eyebrows, she really wants you the hell away from her. Her shoulders are also pushed up and tense, meaning that she's feeling uneased and tempted enough as to where if she could talk, you would be cursed out by now. Am I right, unnie?' She flashed a smile towards the patient, making Jung Ah turn around, anxious to know the answer.

Adding further to the hostile atmosphere, the woman affectionately called Kahi had her thumb raised up, signifying that her younger friend was indeed spot on with her analysis. Shocked, Jung Ah nervously gulped, feeling the animosity spewing from the ill-tempered patient. Feeling a relaxed hand rest upon her shoulder, she slightly turned her head to see the patient's friend warmly siling at her.

??:'I'm sorry for the way she's acting. She's really pissed at the doctors for leaving her literally speechless.' She joked, receiving a pillow punishment from the patient.
??:'Aish, unnie. I'm sorry, but I couldn't resist!' She rubbed her jaw.
Jung Ah:'Don't worry, unlike some of the unmannered doctors here, I actually care for my job and I'll do all I can to comfort you at this time.' She genuinely told Ji Young, warmly smiling at the patient that took her eyes off the TV and stared at Jung Ah, this time with a softer gaze. One that was filled with emotion and humanity.
??:'Aww, unnie. You're warming up to her!' She squealed, clapping her hands together in happiness, yet making Ji Young turn her head back to the TV in embarrassment.
??:'Underneath all that grumpiness is the strong, confident, goofy unnie I once knew. And I can't believe you managed to make a little blush pop up on unnie's face. I like you.' She expressed, giggling gently.
??:'By the way, my name is Im Jin Ah, but everyone calls me Nana. Please feel free to also call me that.' She stretched her hand out towards Jung Ah, like how Jung Ah did to Ji Young.
Jung Ah:'Nice to meet you Nana.' She slid her hand into Nana's, forming a nice and firm handshake.

Sitting in the bed, Ji Young's eyes were fixed on the nurse yet again. She was particularly curious in this nurse. After all, she did seem to be the nicest one out of the 3 she has. The other two were just as beautiful looking, but their attitudes had made that changed from pretty to ugly and added to the pain and torment Ji Young already had to go through. Not only that, one of the nurses is very inexperienced and at one time, screwed up the tubes connected to Ji Young which pumped her body with large amounts of morphine and sent her into a shock. The experience ticked Ji Young off so much that she tried to curse the woman out with her voiceless tongue and even though no words were said, the loud, abrasive, body language, and occasional squeaks that escaped from her as she tried so hard to audibly curse the nurse out, were more than enough to get the nurse fired, hence that's partially why she was granted with this new nurse named Kim Jung Ah.

Nana:'Kahi unnie, I'm gonna head home, I got work in about 5 hours. Gotta get some Zzz's in between. Bye!' She walked up to the bed to kiss the patient on the cheek before leaving the room, lightly closing the door.

Jung Ah turned around to see the common gaze she had been getting from Ji Young or affectionately called Kahi by Nana, but she noticed that the gaze she had been getting had weaken and turned into one of curiosity. Smiling, Jung Ah walked up to the bed and grabbed Kahi's hand, shifting Kahi's face from curious to surprise. The silent room was finally rid of the negative emotions and the positive emotions that were trying to seep through were gaining presence. Giggling inside from looking at Kahi's flustered look, Jung Ah let go of the hold on Kahi' s hand and tucked her in underneath the bed covers. Grabbing the remote off the middle of the bed, she turned the TV off and gently laid the controller on the end table.

Jung Ah:'It's almost approaching 4:30 and you're not sleep. Get some rest, okay?' She politely asked with a hint of concern enclosed in her eyes.

Kahi looked back at her with a sad expression on her face, kind of upset at the fact that she had to deal with the typical, uncaring nurses at the hospital in the morning time and afternoon. Grabbing a pad of paper and a pen that Nana bought for her, Kahi inscribed a short message on the first page that when Jung Ah saw it, it made her heart slowly melt for the presumed icy patient.

Don't go, I'm not in the mood to wake up to be catered by women that wrongfully call themselves "Nurses"

Jung Ah:'Aww, I'm sorry but I've been getting stuck with the graveyard shift and it's about to end. But you'll see me tomorrow afternoon though. That's my real shift.' She revealed, turning the lights off before exiting the room.

All throughout the rest of what was barely night, Jung Ah couldn't get Kahi out of her head. She was such a mysterious patient that one would like to figure out, almost like a puzzle, and that's exactly what Jung Ah was doing while lying in her bed at 6:00 in the morning. She laid there wondering how was she able to break through the shield that Kahi had up for anyone and everyone, even her friend, Nana. Reflecting back to the part when she grabbed Kahi's hand, she slightly blushed at her sudden advancement. She didn't even know that her body wanted so badly to console the depression Kahi had that her body subconsciously wanted to comfort. And the part that made Jung Ah see the good in Kahi was the cute little plea written on the tablet. Knowing that this person she had met only moments ago had already put trust in her, she was growing quite fond of and for the first time, couldn't wait for her afternoon shift to come so that she can get another chance to bond with this peculiar patient. Growing weary as morning was impatiently arriving, Jung Ah closed her eyes and went to sleep, her soul weary, but her spirit restless.

[Next Day]

Entering into Yoo So Young Memorial Hospital, it mirrored the images of yesterday: with the phones hanging off the ringers and in the assistants' ears, nurses and doctors running back and forth, and a sea of patients waiting to be administered to. Spotting JooYeon, she flashed a smile at her before catching up to the younger nurse's speed of pacing.

Jung Ah:'Geez, slow down JooYeon! It's not the Kentucky Derby!' She grabbed her arm to stop her.
JooYeon:'Sorry unnie. Uee unnie's been putting me through hell.'
Jung Ah:'Another operation?'
JooYeon:'Yeah. Bypass surgery. Aish~~' She would rub her temple if she wasn't carrying a tray of dirty medical utensils.
Jung Ah:'I'll leave you alone then. I'm gonna go get Kahi some lunch before heading up. See ya later!' She greeted JooYeon goodbye before walking to the dining area.

After she gather a variety of sliced fruits, a nice salad, 3 pieces of chicken and cream potatoes with gravy, and a tall glass of orange juice, she pushed the carton all the to the elevator and down the hall to deliver the food to her new patient. Knocking on the door, she was met with Kahi answering the door. Slightly blushing because of how close she was to Kahi's plump, pink lips, she vigorously shook away any feelings inside of her and pulled the cart inside the room while Kahi climbed back into the bed and went back into her role of watching TV and letting the nurses do their job. Picking this up, Jung Ah pushed the carton towards Kahi's bed, gaining her attention.

Jung Ah:'Sorry if I've kept you waiting. I was getting you some lunch.' She said as she unveiled every dish on the carton.

The amount of dishes took Kahi aback. The normal amount of dishes she was used to see daily was about 1 per meal, but she never thought she could get 3 dishes for one meal. And what really astonished her was the mountainous glass of orange juice. Just looking at it made her feel as if all the other times, she had been drinking out of Sippy cups. She pointed her finger at her chest, questioning whether all of is was really hers and no one else's to share.

Jung Ah:'Yeah, this is all for you. Please eat well.' She slightly bowed before walking behind the carton to act as Kahi's waitress.
Jung Ah:'On this fine, glorious day, what would you like to eat first, Miss Park?' She eloquently asked.

Kahi pointed towards the salad and heavily enjoying snacking on the blend of carrots, tomatoes, romaine lettuce, red lettuce, and iceberg lettuce with creamy, white ranch on top. While she ate, Jung Ah had a calm smile plastered across her face, enjoying the watch of Kahi's meal time. Her concentration was interrupted by a weak, but noticeable kick to her leg. Looking at Kahi, she didn't notice that Kahi was sitting on the side of the bed and as usual, she was staring at Jung Ah with a somewhat calm expression.

Jung Ah:'Did you kick me?' She asked Kahi who shook her head "Yes".
Jung Ah:'It kinda hurt. Why? I've been nice and friendly.' She pouted, making a light blush form on Kahi's cheek.

Kahi pointed at the plate that was loaded with chicken and gravy covered cream potatoes. Jung Ah didn't know what she wanted her to do with the heavy plate, so an idea popped up in her mind to try to read Kahi's eyes. Exhaling deeply to shake away the nerves, she leaned forward and gazed deeply into Kahi's eyes, attempting to read them like how Nana was able to read them although she was now making Kahi wonder in silence what was this young nurse trying to do? Kahi was taken aback yet again, but this time, she kept her composure and pointed at the plate of cream potatoes and chicken once more.

Jung Ah:'I GOT IT!' She epiphanied while Kahi stared at her with one eyebrow rose in confusion.
Jung Ah:'I'm sorry, I was trying to read your eyes like how your blonde friend can, but I think I did a pretty good job. For starters, I know you want to eat this plate next, right?' She confidently stated, making Kahi giggle.

Kahi's unvoiced giggle caused her to expose a pair of killer dimples she was born with and the pair of dimples tempted Jung Ah when she first glanced at them. She stopped talking and just looked at Kahi's dimples folded into her cheeks and damn near worshipped them. Kahi shook her head no and pointed at the plate then pointed back at Jung Ah. Kahi motioned her hand in a forward, brushing motion which Jung Ah preceived as Kahi declining the plate of fried, crunchy chicken with a volcano of mashed potatoes smothered with gravy lava. Grabbing the plate, Jung Ah was about to walk out of the door before Kahi banged her hand onto the carton, getting Jung Ah's attention.

Jung Ah:'What are you doing?' She asked the auburn haired woman.

Grabbing the writing tablet, Kahi wrote a message like yesterday to help Jung Ah with figuring out what she's asking for. Facing the written message towards Jung Ah, Kahi presented it to her with a light smile present on her face.

I was trying to tell you that you can have that plate. Please accept it on my behalf

Jung Ah:'Oh no, I couldn't. I'm fine. Real-' She paused because she saw Kahi's icy cold glare revisit her.
Jung Ah:'Okay, okay! I'll eat it, just stop staring at me like that. I get the creeps.' She shuddered the last part and Kahi relinquished the glare.

Carrying the moderate steam plate in her hand, Jung Ah walked towards the couch and gently plopped herself on it, putting the plate in her steady lap now. As she ate the plate, Jung Ah periodically snuck a glance at Kahi, who was quietly eating the salad and reaching her fork towards one of the pieces of fruit on the tray. After Kahi finished eating her healthy meal, she also glanced at Jung Ah who was looking at the empty plate with dead eyes.

Kahi:'I guess that was a lot to handle.' She thought to herself as she got up and walked towards her.

Lazily, Jung Ah tilted her head just enough to see Kahi walking to her with the writing tablet out of her peripheral vision.

Sorry if it was too much for you to eat

Jung Ah:'No, no. It's not that. Those cream potatoes really got me stuff.' She drowsily straighten herself up.

Kahi shook her head in understanding. Jung Ah rose up without knowing how close Kahi was to her and when she looked her, her face was so close to Kahi's that she was damn near close to locking lips with her. Gazing deeply into Kahi's eyes, Jung Ah peered strongly into them, trying her hardest to read them once again. Her eyes not only scanned Kahi's eyes, but her entire face. Jung Ah a bit enamored with seeing how smooth and delicate Kahi's cheeks look and her neatly tamed eyebrows. Her lips were a beautiful peach shade she always liked and she had the neck of a gorgeous crane. Lightly blushing, Jung Ah retreated back to Kahi's eyes. She realized that the more she looked into them, they're not so fierce and haunting anymore. Concentrating heavily on Kahi's pair of chestnut brown eyes, Jung Ah squealed loudly, catching Kahi by surprised.

Jung Ah:'I think I read your eyes!' She happily revealed.

Looking at her with a confused look, Kahi donned a smirk and wrote on her tablet.

Didn't you try that earlier? Last time you thought I wanted you to get rid of a nice plate of cream potatoes and chicken, what's next? I wanna unplug the TV and throw it down the stairs?

Jung Ah:'Ha ha, very funny. With the glares you give me time to time, I'm surprised you haven't unplugged the TV and thrown it at me. Or one of the other nurses for that matter.' She joked, making Kahi's dimples appear yet again.

Jung Ah was beginning to adore those dimples. To her, they made Kahi seem less robotic, more...human, truly human. Everyone needs to smile regardless if they're angry or tormented. Happiness can't be bought, but that doesn't mean beecause it's free, it isn't necessary. Jung Ah gently grabbed a hold to Kahi's shoulders, attracting Kahi's attention.

Jung Ah:'Why don't you get back in bed? It's getting a bit drafty in here. I don't want you to get a cold, especially one with a cough.' She guided Kahi back into the bed and spread the cover on her. After she finshed tucking Kahi in, she look at what Kahi was writing on her tablet. This message made her smile.

Thank you for being nice to me

Jung Ah:'No need to thank me. It's simply my job.' She responded, sitting on the edge of the bed.

Jung Ah:'Since I'm gonna be watching over you, why don't you tell me about yourself? If you do, I'll tell you about me too.' She proposed.

After hearing that, Kahi dilligently wrote on her pad a long biography, of sort, to provide Jung Ah with enough info about her. In about 2 minutes, Kahi was done and handed the yellow papered tablet to Jung Ah, who could truly see how pretty Kahi's handwriting was due to the long passage.

My real name is Park Ji Young. I was born on Christmas Day. I have a brother and a sister and I'm 31 years old. Yeah, shocker right? I get that a lot. I can dance and play the guitar. I wanna be a singer but that's gonna be pretty hard now. Umm...oh! I'm both handed and I have 3 tattoos. 2 are on each arm and the 3rd one...you don't need to know ;) I'm pretty much laid-back, but I'm also goofy, caring, and honest. The tough act...is a front because when I was younger, I ran away from home to be a dancer. Professional, not the other....kind. Ever since, I've been the black sheep of my family, so...the tough act helps shield my emotions. But it doesn't mean that I'm not actually tough because my friends call me Appa from time to time.

After reading the note, Jung Ah looked up at Kahi to see her watching TV as always. She smiled at the surprisingly 31 year old woman hold up in her room, happy to know that after only a day of meeting each other, they were becoming close quickly. Especially since she knows how Kahi feels from the letter, Jung Ah felt a bond with her. Perhaps it was one that made her want to protect and care for Kahi, but it wasn't. It was something deeper and stronger. Maybe it was a love connection?

Jung Ah:'Ah, no way. I don't like girls.' She denied the warm aura she felt inside her heart for Kahi.
Jung Ah:'Thank you for telling me that. My name is Kim Jung Ah. I'm 29 years old, so I'm pretty much up there with you. I have a younger sister, and my birthday is August 2nd. I'm nothing really spectacular except I can sing. I also wanted to be a singer, but I got sick a lot, so I had to put that on hold. Now I'm here as a nurse, kinda ironic, huh? I wish I didn't worry so much about other people, but I can't help it. I guess that's why some of my friends call me Omma.' Hearing this made Kahi turn to Jung Ah's direction.
Jung Ah:'We're kinda alike, aren't we?' She asked, touching Kahi's hidden leg.

Kahi shook her hand sideways to mean "sort of" in response with a smirk on her face. As the hours went by, Jung Ah was enjoying spending this time with Kahi. They talked by means of Kahi writing her words down and Jung Ah responding, but the way their chemistry flowed made it seem as if they verbally communicating with each other. Soon Jung Ah's shift ended. She was so sad to see it ended as she was enjoy keeping Kahi company that actually wanted to stay at her job for once As Jung Ah got up to leave, DamBi entered inside.

DamBi:'Annyeonghaseyo. Sorry for the late arrival, I was in surgery. At least Nurse Jung Ah did her job for once and tended to you.' She threw a punch.
Jung Ah:'My shift is over, so I'm gonna go home. Bye...Kahi.' The last part she hesitated because she didn't know if she was close enough to Kahi to affectionately call her that yet.

But her heart did backflips in her stomach when she saw Kahi waving at her with a dimple infested smile before turning to look at DamBi. As soon as Jung Ah opened the door, DamBi began telling Kahi about a second chance to get her voice back which made Jung Ah stay in place to eavesdrop on the conversation.

DamBi:'First thing Miss Park, I would like to apologize for the unsuccessful procedure that left you with no voice. I can assure, just because we have one doctor with no sense of professional doesn't mean that the rest of us can't do our job right. I, along with Dr. Yoojin and Dr.Hye Rin have come up with a way to fix your larynx. However, one risk is that we have to work around the jugular vein and if anything happens to that, then...your body would be motionless. It's too great a risk that the chances of you surviving are approximately 40%. But even still, would you like to accept the proce-' She was cut off by Kahi' punch to the bed's headboard, giving it an intense fracture followed by a violent headshake no.

Kahi's heart was already hardened at the mention of a 40% chance of living. She rather live the rest of her life without a voice than dying for a voice. Clearing of fear, DamBi got up to head out, defeated by the wordless patient. To gain some sort of dominance, she scolded Jung Ah for not leaving yet and deducted her pay. Even still, Jung Ah didn't care; she was still on a high from being with Kahi. Going home, she peacefully went to, excited to see Kahi again tomorrow. Ever since that day, Jung Ah has been getting to Kahi day by day, week by week and has even taking her outside her room to for some fresh air. Every day, Jung Ah's heart yearned for Kahi and on that day, she came to realized that she was in love with Kahi. Question is, does Kahi feel the same way? She was afraid to tell her until one day, it was shown just how intimate these two were without really professing.

[7 Months Later]

Entering in to start her shift, Jung Ah had come, this time with a bouquet of chrysanthemums since Kahi told her that was her favorite flower. Before entering the elevator, she saw JooYeon calling after her and stopped for her to catch up. Giving her hug, Jung Ah greeted JooYeon and tried to catch up with her.

Jung Ah:'Ah! Joopal, I haven't seen you in 2 weeks.'
JooYeon:'Yeah, Uee unnie has been performing a couple of surgeries over the past 2 weeks. She's doing her 8th one right now. But enough about me, what's going on with you and Dambi unnie?'
Jung Ah:'Hell. Ugh, she never lets up on me and even when I do nothing she still scolds me. She even does it in front of Kahi and her friend.' She rolled her eyes in frustration.
JooYeon:'That's reminds me. Earlier this morning, I went to go see her for the first time. She's insanely gorgeous.' She complimented.
Jung Ah:'I know! And she's only two years older than me.'
JooYeon:'She's 31?! Waa~~I thought she was at least 24.' She was surprised.
JooYeon:'Are the flowers for her?' She asked, noticing the dozen of white flowers popping out from the green bouquet wrapper.
Jung Ah:'Yeah. They're her favorite.'
JooYeon:'Aw chrysanthemums. Seems like to me someone has gotten close with her.' She guessed, winking at Jung Ah.
Jung Ah:'What can I say? I've developed a soft spot in my heart for her.' She said, blushing.
JooYeon:'So does that mean you like her?'
Jung Ah:'.....Yes. Well, it's more than a like.' She shyly stated, looking at the ground in embarrassment.
JooYeon:'Ah~~~you're interested in her! Go for it, unnie!' She hugged Jung Ah in glee.
Jung Ah: 'I'm kind of scared though. I mean, what if she doesn't want to go out with because I'm a nurse?' She worried.
JooYeon:'Come on, that's just ridiculous. Besides, you need to get it off your chest before she possibly finds someone else and you have to deal with never confessing to her and be lonely for the rest of yout life.' She said as she pushed Jung Ah into the opened elevator.
Jung Ah:'Fine. See ya later!' She ended before the elevator door shut.

After she exited the elevator, Jung Ah was walking down the same hall she had got accustomed to for 7 months and when she saw those three numbers: 414, her face lit up with happiness. Knocking on the door, she was a tad disappointed that Kahi didn't come to answer it. Knocking on it again, the door slowly opened, and instead of her seeing her favorite patient, it was Nana.

Jung Ah:'Annyeonghaseyo Nana.' She greeted.
Nana:'Annyeonghaseyo Jung Ah unnie. Unnie's asleep.' She whispered and widely opened the door to let Jung Ah in.

Tiptoeing inside, Jung Ah saw another girl sitting on the couch with brown hair playing with her phone. The girl looked away from it for a brief second to greet Jung Ah before resuming her activity.

Nana:'Oh, this is Soo Young , my girlfriend, but we call her Lizzy.' She introduced the young girl.
Lizzy:'Annyeonghaseyo.' She bowed her head.
Jung Ah:'Annyeonghaseyo. I bought these chrysanthemums for Kahi.' She showed the bouquet off to Nana.
Nana:'Ah, unnie is going to love these. Thank you on behalf of unnie.' She hugged me.
Lizzy:'Wow~~they're beautiful and the petals are as white as snow.' She marveled at the color and size.
Jung Ah:'I'll put them in the vase on the table.' She walked by the bed and carefully pulled the flowers out of the wrapper.

She placed them in a purple vase standing on the table next to Kahi, who was sound asleep. After putting the delicate flowers in the vase, she turned to smile at Kahi's sleeping body. She closely observed everything about Kahi's face like always and that warm feeling inside of her reoccurred.

Nana:'You like Kahi unnie, don't you?' She asked through the silence, disturbing Jung Ah.
Jung Ah:'H-huh? What are you talking about?' She tried to play off.
Nana:'I know you do. After all, you wouldn't be buying her flowers. You keep her company every day, so you two have grown a very close bond. Besides, I see the way you look at her. You look at her as if she's the only special someone you have left on this Earth and if she left, then you would beg God to send her back down from Heaven. I know because I looked at Lizzy like that.' She stated.
Jung Ah:'I...I do like her a lot. She's...different. You know, I never expected to actually have this feeling inside of me for someone who hasn't said a mumbling word to me and yet I know that she understands me. All I know is I will never meet someone like her twice in this lifetime.' She said before lightly caressing Kai's cheek.
??:'Sorry I'm a bit late everyone, I was stuck in traffic.' In walked Dambi.
Dambi:'Nurse Jung Ah, you're not supposed to be flirting with the patient. Don't worry, you'll be docked a month's pay.' She wrote on her clipboard.
Jung Ah:'A month?! Now, hold on. You're being ridiculous and harsh.' She spoke up.
Dambi:'Did you just talk back to me? Dr. Son Dambi? Haha, you must really hate your job.' She said before walking up to Jung Ah.
Jung Ah:'For a respected doctor, you're nothing but an and I'm tired of dealing with you.' She spat out, backing away towards the balcony doors.

Dambi kept walking towards her and Nana and Lizzy watched attentively, shocked at seeing something like this happen in public. As Jung Ah's back hit the balcony door, she had nowhere to go since Dambi had already closed in. And in one sweep, Dambi violently pushed Jung Ah into the balcony door, she squealed in pain. Little did Dambi know, Kahi woke up from the loud arguing and now was watching and looked on in horrid and in anger. Kahi jumped out of the bed quickly and ran towards Jung Ah and wrapped her arms around her for protection. This did surprise Dambi, but she was speechless as Kahi gave her the glare of death. The look on Kahi's face was as synonymous to looking at a thousand suns and felt as if she was melting Dambi as every second go by.

Dambi:'G-g-good morning Miss Park. When did you get up?' She trembled in fear.

Kahi ignored her as she snatched Dambi's clipboard out of her hand and wrote something down. Shoving the clipboard into Dambi's chest, Kahi intentionally bumped into Dambi's shoulder so hard when she walked by her that Dambi fell onto the floor. Reading the clipboard, Dambi quickly got up and ran. On it, Kahi wrote:

If you thought you were gonna get away with that, guess again. Unfortunately for you, it was loud enough to piss me off and now, I need to take my anger out on someone. You'd better transfer me and Jung Ah to a different doctor or else I'll pick you as a suitable punching bag. Got it?

Dambi:'Okay. I'll reassign both of you to another doctor!' She ran out of the room, shutting the door tightly behind her.

Looking down at Jung Ah, Kahi's heart shattered while listening to Jung Ah cry her eyes out. Reaching her hand out, Kahi grabbed one of Jung Ah's hands and gently removed it from her face, doing the same thing with her other hand. Jung Ah looked at Kahi with her tear stained eyes and tried to stifle her crying. Wiping Jung Ah's tears, Kahi pulled Jung Ah into a more intimate hug this time, wrapping her arms around Jung Ah's waist. Jung Ah rested her head on Kahi's shoulder. She was happy that Kahi defended her and on top of that, was worried for her. Jung Ah accepted the hug by clutching onto the collar of Kahi's hospital gown and snuggled into the crook of Kahi's neck, slowly starting to stop crying. On the other hand, Nana and Lizzy had a warm smile plastered on their face as they were touched to see the older woman expressing emotions she had once showed a long time ago. That's when they knew that their unnie had found someone to love. And they loved that.

Jung Ah:'Thanks. You have no idea how long I've had to put up with her.' She let go of Kahi and stared into her eyes.

Kahi, on the other hand, continued to hug Jung Ah and before Jung Ah could break away from her hold, Kahi pulled Jung Ah in to kiss her. The sudden motion caught Jung Ah by surprise and as she stood there frozen, Kahi continued to pour her heart and soul into the kiss. Sliding her tongue inside Jung Ah's mouth, Kahi damn near invaded Jung Ah and before she knew it, Jung Ah began kissing her back. Her hands traveled from Kahi's stomach to her neck and both woman's tongue were battling for dominance. Unsurprisingly, Kahi won and unknowingly, Jung Ah found herself at the smooth feel of Kahi's tongue inside , becoming a part of her for this one moment. Breaking the kiss for air, Kahi wiped her lips and sat on the edge of the bed, grabbing her tablet to write a note. Before she started writing, Jung Ah grabbed Kahi's hand that had a pen sticking out from it. Looking up at her, Kahi and Jung Ah's eyes met.

Jung Ah:'You don't have to write it down. I know you love me because...I love you too.' She confessed, a tear escaping from her eye.

Taking a seat next to Kahi, Jung Ah gently kissed Kahi's cheek and rested her head on Kahi's shoulder while cuddling Kahi's waist. Kahi turned her head to look at her queen's gorgeous face one more time. How Kahi loved Jung Ah's medium tanned skin because it was the exact opposite of her skin tone. She noticed everything about Jung Ah was the opposite of her. Tanned skin, pearly moon crescent shaped eyes, and nice plump lips. Kahi's lips were sort of plumpy, but they could still be considered skinny. Smiling, Kahi's dimples crept back on her face, causing Jung Ah's eyes to shine back at Kahi. Gazing into each other eyes, Jung Ah tried one last time to read Kahi's eyes.

Jung Ah:'I know what you're thinking.' She softly stated, caressing Kahi's cheek.

Kahi just raised her eyebrows in response to being curious as to what Jung Ah is about to prophesize.

Jung Ah:'You're enjoying the hold I've got you in...and you want to kiss me one more time, don't you?' She guessed before leaning in to meet with Kahi's sweet taste yet again.

After what seemed like an endless eternity, Kahi broke the kiss. She looked at Jung Ah in satisfaction as she predicted right. Kahi was more than sure now that Jung Ah was the one for her. After all, she's gonna need a partner who can read her body language, facial language, and know how to trust their intuition when they can't figure out the previous two.

Jung Ah:'Listen to me Kahi...please get the surgery.' She softly asked Kahi, who responded by standing up and getting inside the bed, her attitude getting a bit chilly at the mention of surgery.
Kahi looked back at her with an unhappy glare that had "There's no way I'm getting surgery. I'd rather stay like this forever then possibly die during sugery." Seeing this made Jung Ah scoot closer to Kahi and intertwine her fingers with Kahi's.
Jung Ah:'Please...don't talk like that. You shouldn't even worry about dying. God always has a way of proving them wrong, believe it or not.' She rubbed Kahi's leg in comfort.

Letting out a big sigh, Kahi shook her head yes in agree for the surgery, overjoying Jung Ah who quickly kissed her in bliss. Retreating, Jung Ah bit her lower lip in joy and as night settle went to go get Kahi dinner. Nana and Lizzy had left, so Jung Ah had Kahi all to herself. After delivering Kahi dinner, she had began working on a plate she had brought for herself. After Kahi had finished eating dinner, she waited for Jung Ah to finish eating hers. Although her shift ended 4 hours ago, Jung Ah still spent time with Kahi like she usually does and now that they were embarking on a new relationship, Kahi wanted to get closer. When Jung Ah finished eating her dinner, Kahi grabbed her and picked her up to bring her in her hospital bed. The bed was close enough to fit two people, but Jung Ah cuddled up to Kahi in order to fit on the bed. Jung Ah was blushing as she felt one of Kahi's arms roaming from her back to her . She did get a bit disappointed when Kahi raised that same arm up to get her tablet and write a note.

Since we're getting closer each day, I think it's time to tell you about something I rarely discuss about: my car accident.

Looking at the note and back at Kahi, Jung Ah was a bit saddened as she forgot that Kahi ended up in the hospital because of the accident. Grabbing Kahi's hand and gently kissing her jawline, Jung Ah was ready to hear an already presumed tragic story. Well, actually, more like read it.

I remember it like it was yesterday...it happened about 12 months ago. I was coming from my parents' house, trying to reconcile with them. Unfortunately, we didn't end on good terms, so I had no choice but to leave them out of my life. I was angry, livid at the fact that they would never accept my dream, degrading it as a mere fantasy. I made a stupid decision and chose to wrecklessly drive with my emotions and not my head and that's when I hit an 18 wheeler head on. The impact was so tremendous that my windshield wiper ended up being lodge in my neck. A stranger saw the wreck andcalled 119. Unfortunately, my best friend Bekah had came with me that day, but she didn't make it by the time the ambulance got to the scene. I was rushed to surgery, doctor messed up my throat, and here I am. A useless, middle aged woman chasing a far away ambition.

Jung Ah:'Don't say that. You're not useless. Baby...' She affectionately called, shocking Kahi.

Jung Ah chuckled at the look on Kahi's face and snuggled closer to Kahi's warm body. Drifting off to sleep, she wasn't aware of the one who was her hair, cooing her to be drenched into a sea of dreams...

[3 Weeks Later]

Jung Ah was waiting outside the operation room with Nana and Lizzy. The doctor she was newly assigned to, Dr. Yoojin, had also been reassigned to perform the operation on Kahi. Jung Ah was glad, considering that she and JooYeon had known Yoojin ever since 11th grade and knew how great of a doctor she was. As a matter of fact, Jung Ah was supposed to be in the operation room assiting Uee and JooYeon, but after founding out about Jung Ah and Kahi's relationship, Uee wanted Jung Ah to have the week off, so she didb't have to deal with seeing the sight of her lover on the operatiing bed. The three women outside the door was silently waiting for someone to walk out of the door and give them some type of update. After the first 5 hours of operatiing, that's when Uee came out.

Uee:'Morning unnie. Ladies.' She greeted them.
Jung Ah:'Uee...is everything okay?' She cautiously asked.
Uee:'There seems to be a problem. The reason why her voice is gone is not only because of the doctor...but she also has a tumor right in tangled up in her jugular vein.' She revealed.

Jung Ah's heart sunk to the floor along with her body. Nana and Lizzy desperately tried to help Jung Ah up, but they were just as weak from heaing the bed news as Jung Ah was. She coldn't believe it. Someone she spent 8 months with was almost out of her grasp. She knew that with cancer in the picture now, Kahi's chances of surviving may be cut in half. Jung Ah's heart wept loudly as she couldn't control herself and cursed herself for persuading Kahi to get the operation.

Jung Ah:'I'm such an idiot....STUPID, STUPID ME!!' She punched herself in the face.
Nana:'Unnie, please...unnie, it's not your fault.' She spoke up, voice shaking from hearing the bad news.
Lizzy:'Besides unnie, it's better for Kahi to get the operaiton than not to and the tumor gets untreated and really affects her health.' She defended Jung Ah's decision.
Uee:'Unnie, don't worry yourself, okay? Thankfully, the tumor is a fairly normal size, so it shouldn't be hard to get it out. We're gonna give her her voice back, okay?' She hugged Jung Ah before returning back into the operating room.

Sitting back down in her seat, Jung Ah tried to clear her mind of any negative thoughts that came, but the many thoughts that were rushing in and out of her mind was overbearing. Battling with those thoughts for about 7 hours, she didn't noticed JooYeon coming out of the room or Nana and Lizzy falling asleep from waiting. Shaking her shoulder, JooYeon got Jung Ah out of her battle within herself and turned to look at her.

JooYeon:'Hey unnie, let's have a talk.' She stated as she sat down in the seat next to her.
Jung Ah:'JooYeon...I don't care for the small talk. Please~~tell me how Kahi's doing?' She asked, searching Uee's face for an answer.
JooYeon:'*Sigh* Unnie...we've experienced a slight problem.' She revealed.
Jung Ah:'No...no! That's not what I wanna hear!' She snapped.
Jung Ah:'Why aren't any of you coming out with good reports?! Why haven't any of you told me one improvement you've made?! I'M SICK OF HEARING THIS!! I want Kahi to pull out of this with no difficulties.' Another wave of tears came.
JooYeon:'She will unnie, but this is complicated. The problem is that they've managed to get the tumor removed, but her jugular vein has been damaged, so they're trying to stop the bleeding.' She revealed, making Jung Ah feel lightheaded.
Jung Ah:'Please.....unless you have something postive to tell me, I don't want you or Uee or any other doctor coming out here.'
JooYeon:'Unnie...they're trying to restore her voice, but they're trying to make sure that there are no other threats in their way.' She said although she was unsure whether Jung Ah actually cared.

Jung Ah endured herself for 6 more hours of waiting until it was around 9:00 pm when Uee came out. She took off her gloves and wiped her forehead after a really long day of operating. Of all the operations she's had over the past 2 months, this one was probably most difficult as she was dealing with a key factor between life and death. Shaking Jung Ah's shoulder, Jung Ah groggily woke up and her eyes focused on the natural chuby faced doctor and the medical staff lined up next to her.

Uee:'We've kept your promise. We were able to stop the bleeding and injected endorphin into her larynx to get those vocal cords working. Go on in and see her.' She opened the door and stepped to the side to let Jung Ah enter.

Jung Ah quietly stepped in to hear the heart monitor quietly beeping and seeing Kahi with bandages around her jaw and neck area. Walking slowly towards the anasthetic druged patient, Jung Ah was devastated to see the number of tubes in Kahi's mouth and the wires attached to her. She reached out her hand to touch Kahi until a disgruntle groan startled her. Looking at Kahi, she was starting to wake up and the more she woke up, the more she felt the excruciating pain of surgery. But Jung Ah knew from the time she heard that groan that the operation was a success. She carefully sat on the bed and touch the upper part of Kahi's cheek that wasn't covered with sandy brown bandages. Blinking her eyes, Kahi slightly turned her head to see Jung Ah staring at her with tears of joy in her eyes.

Kahi:'...Y-you're cr-cr-cr-crying...' She spoke for the first time in almost a year.
Jung Ah:'Because I'm happy.' She replied before hugging Kahi.
Kahi:'Mmm...I'm in a lot of pain.' She groaned yet again, making Jung Ah release her hug.
Kahi:'I c-c-can...hear my voice a-a-a-ag-again.'
Jung Ah:'Your voice is beautiful, like you.' She complimented, running her hands through Kahi's hair as her tears ran down her face also.
Kahi:'Why th-th-thank y-you. I wa-wanna go b-b-back to s-sleep now.' She closed her eyes and soflty inhaled and exhaled.
Uee:'How do you feel, Park Ji Young?' She walked in with JooYeon, Nana, and Lizzy behind her.
Kahi:'D-damn good.' She responded, surprising Nana and Lizzy.
Nana:'UNNIE!! YOUR VOICE!! IT"S BACK!!!!' She ran over and hugged the older woman.
Lizzy:'Unnie, we were so worried about you. But I'm glad to know that you fought through it.' She hugged Kahi also.
Uee:'We're gonna keep you in the hospital for a couple of weeks before you can fianally go home. Until then, get plenty of rest, okay?' She lightly tapped Kahi's leg before leaving.

Jung Ah:'Wait, Yoojin.' She followed Uee out of the room.
Uee:'Yes?'
Jung Ah:'I'm sorry for being mean. You too, JooYeon. I was just so upset and worried tha-'
JooYeon:'Unnie....it's okay. It's called love.' She smiled before walking away.

Jung Ah turned around and entered back inside the room, seeing Nana and Lizzy talking to Kahi. What Jung Ah found funny was that she never expected to find true love at her job. She didn't regret finding it because she knows that now she will be embarking on a new journey with Kahi.

[5 Weeks Later]

Jung Ah was finally finished with the graveyard shift she was on. Thankfully, she wasn't doing it because she was punished to work it, but because she wanted some bonus money. However, it was taking it toll on her as she walked inside her stylish loft sluggishly and headed straight for her bedroom. Plopping down on her side of the bed, she laid there, basking in the soft feel of the bed.
?:'When did you get here?' Kahi asked as she woke up from the bed shaking because of Jung Ah's belly flop.
Jung Ah:'Hey baby...I just got here. Grrweuuerr...that graveyard shift is killing me.' She said as she got up.
Me:'I appreciate you working the graveyard shift to get some extra money for my medical bills, but stop, okay? I don't like seeing you this fatigued.' She stated, kissing Jung Ah.
Jung Ah:'But Kahi...I want to.' She snuggled into Kahi's neck.

Kahi:'At least let me rub your feet for you.' She suggested.

Jung Ah:'Oh my God, yes! You make me feel like I'm walking on clouds after you massage them.' She said, swiftly taking her pantyhose off and laid opposite of Kahi so she could have easy access to her feet.

And as Kahi rubbed Jung Ah's pain taking feet, Jung Ah felt as if her whole body was melting away. Clusters of moans escaped from Jung Ah's lips and not long after, she fell asleep as normal whenever Kahi was in the middle of massaging her feet. After she got done, Kahi grabbed Jung Ah's waist and lifted her from the end of the bed, and cradle her body as if she was a baby. Stirring in her sleep, Jung Ah began mumbling.

Jung Ah:'Mm...I'm sorry for always falling asleep, honey.' She drowsily stated, her eyes still closed.
Kahi:'It's okay. That's what makes you cute.' She said before kissing her forehead.
Jung Ah:'You have no idea how much I love you.' She stated, smooching Kahi's lip before resting for the night.
Kahi:'I love you too..'

'....And I'm proud to finally say it out loud...'
