“Baekhyun! Baekhyun! Stop running away from me and talk! Please, hyung!” shouted Chanyeol after me. It had been 3 days since he confessed to me. Surprised and  clueless on what to do, all I could do was ignore him. He’d been trying to talk to me, but I avoided him like the plague. I felt guilty, but I would feel even more guilty if I told him the truth, that I was straight and would never like a guy.

What hurts the most was being so close

And having so much to say

And watching you walk away...

“Hyung! Please, just listen to me!” begged my once best friend. Tears leaked out of his eyes as he chased me around the exo dorm. He grabbed my hand and I tried to twist it out of his firm grip. The boy then abruptly kneeled and started apologizing.

“I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry... I knew that you were straight and would always be, but I was cocky and thought that maybe I could change that. I’m sorry, hyung, I was wrong and should have never done that. Let’s just forget I ever did that. Please. I begging you on my knees. Please just be my best friend again.” he cried.

    Watching him, I felt heartbroken. Seeing Chanyeol, my perpetually happy dongsaeng, crying made me sad beyond words. I kneeled down on the wooden floor of the kitchen and wrapped my arms around his shaking body, patting him gently.

“Chanyeol-ah, it’s not your fault. I’m the one that should be sorry. I never thought I would cause you so much pain. Please stop being sad and find someone new. Someone that can treat you like you should be treated. Someone better than me.” I comforted.

    He should his head slightly and muttered something that I couldn’t quite catch. Chanyeol sniffled quietly and wiped his eyes with the back of his hand. I helped him stand up and looked up at him closely for the first time in a while. His eyes had dark circles as if he hadn’t been sleeping, his cheeks looked gaunt as if he hadn’t been eaten, and most noticeably, his eyes were bloated and red with crying.

    I smiled lightly and cooed softly, “Don’t worry Channie. Hyung will never stop loving you like a best friend, a brother. I’ll never ignore you again. So don’t cry, smile.”

Hearing me use my nickname for him, Chanyeol grinned slightly, using his signature twitching smile. Seeing him happy made me grin, too. We stood there, smiling and just relaxing at the fact that the tension was gone.

Unfortunately, I couldn’t see the sadness in Chanyeol’s eyes at that time.
