Don't Say No

Description

a YongSeo one-shot

Foreword

Yonghwa closed his eyes as he leaned back on his chair. His head was throbbing from composing all day. Looking at his watch, he was surprised to see it was way past lunch.

Wow, I've been in this chair for 5 hours already. Amazingly, he wasn't even hungry.

He got up and went to the kitchen for a glass of water. Ahh, what's wrong with me? Leaning against the counter, he stared blankly into the distance, rolling his drinking glass between his fingers.

He knew exactly what was wrong with him, though he was trying really hard to deny it.

It was the last day of filming tomorrow, and his heart just couldn't take it...

Jungshin turned away from peeking through the bedroom door and looked at Minhyuk.

"Man, I don't think I can stand this any longer!?" he exclaimed as dropped onto his back on his bed.  "I can't stand seeing him like this."

Minhyuk sighed as he gave up pretending to read the book he was holding.

"I know. It's like, a totally new side of Yonghwa that I've never seen before. He wasn't even this serious when he was diagnosed with nodules."

Jonghyun was slouching on the bay window seat, with his eyes closed as he strummed on his guitar.

"That, boys, is the picture of a man in conflict."  I can't wait for the song he's working on right now...

Seohyun breathed out a sigh. Suddenly getting self-conscious, she looked around the room. Finding herself alone, she freely gave out another deep breath.

Seriously Hyun, stop it. What's wrong with me?! Another sigh escaped.
I have to finish this in time for tomorrow.

TOMORROW.

The word sent a chill down her spine.

Yes, tomorrow was the final filming.

Her eyes suddenly started to water and her sight began to blur.  She could barely make out the pictures she was sticking onto her book.

"Hyunnie, dinner!" Hyoyeon unnie suddenly came into the room and flopped down on her bed. Seohyun turned away, covering her face with the book.

"Ah chincha, I think I'm allergic to this paper."

Hyoyeon laid on her side and propped her head on one hand.

"Joohyun-ah, you're the healthiest person I know. Now, tell unnie what's wrong."

Seohyun kept her back turned as she continued working on her book.

"Ah chincha unnie, nothing's wrong. It must be the cold weather, giving me the sniffles."

Hyoyeon got up from bed and knelt down on the floor in front of Seohyun, who turned her face away from her again.  She took away the book from Hyunnie's hands as she sat down beside her on the bed. Turning Seohyun's face towards her, her heart dropped at the sight of the maknae's tears.

"You don't have to say anything, sweetie. I understand," Hyoyeon said, wiping away at the tears.

Seohyun laid her head on her unnie's shoulder and cried her heart out...

Yonghwa left the dorm without telling anyone where he was going. He needed air. His dongsaengs must have sensed his mood and were staying out of the way.

Taking out the car from the garage, he decided to go for a spin.

How did it all come to this?

A year ago he wasn't too sure about doing the show. He felt too young and inadequate to play the role of a husband.

Meeting Seohyun for the first time further raised his insecurities. She was the type of person he had never met before, and he was at a loss as to how to treat her.

But first impressions dug deep, and he fell hard for those clear, honest eyes. He always found himself lost in those eyes... Those eyes that laughed at every joke he made... eyes that glared at him when he ... eyes that kept him awake most nights, prompting him to write a couple of songs.

He'll miss those eyes. No, that's not right. He'll miss her. He was already missing her, so much, it was eating him up inside.

I have to tell her. I have to let her know... somehow...

With a determined look on his face, he drove off.

The filming had finally ended. Waving to the crew as they drove off, Yonghwa went to sit in the car. He was drained, physically and emotionally. He wanted to get home, crawl into bed and curl into a ball. But he couldn't start up the car.

I'm sure she read the card. I just need to wait.

He sat back in the car seat and closed his eyes, folding his arms across his chest. His heart was pounding, anticipating...

A minute passed. Five minutes. Ten minutes. Yonghwa stared at his watch.

I'll give her a couple more minutes.

Ten long minutes passed by slowly. Yonghwa could literally hear his heart breaking into a million pieces.

Well, I tried. Time to let go and move on, I guess...

Resting his head on the steering wheel, he tried to calm himself so he could drive.
He sighed deeply and started up the car.

A soft knock on the window made him glance up. He smiled.

They sat down on the bench they had occupied hours before, keeping at a safe distance. Yonghwa kept his eyes on Seohyun, who couldn't seem to look at him. She was sitting up straight with her hands on her lap.

Her eyes seemed empty and sad. He knew the feeling.

"A while ago I said that we probably felt the same," Yonghwa began.

Seohyun nodded her head, still not looking at him.

"I mean, who wouldn't be sad about ending the show, right?" Yonghwa continued.

Seohyun nodded her head more vigorously this time.

"I really learned a lot over this past year because of you, and I just wanted to say thank you without the cameras and crew around," Yonghwa added, still staring at Seohyun.

Seohyun kept her head down, clasping her hands together.

"You once said we needed to die together..." Yonghwa whispered softly as he gently raised Seohyun's face to meet her eyes.

Those eyes... He'd lost count how many times he'd fallen for those bright, sparkling eyes. They were glistening with tears now, threatening to fall.

"Why don't we grow old together first?" Yonghwa asked, looking into the depths of those eyes.

Seohyun froze. She stared back at him, looking directly into his questioning eyes.

A smile finally broke on her face, and the tears fell in a cascade.

"How do you say no to that? Nothing would make me happier, oppa..."

Yonghwa leaned in to kiss her gently on the lips. Even with his eyes closed, he could feel a smile on her lips.

"Jashi~ik," Seohyun whispered.

** Watching the episodes again with other gogumas for the 2nd anniversary has really put me in a nostalgic mood, and I cried buckets of tears again for the last 2 episodes.  But as we all believe, the end of their stint on WGM was just the beginning of another relationship, may it be friendship or love. I truly adore this couple. YongSeo forever! ^^
