What is the Hunger Games?

Every year the Hunger Games take place annually in the country of Panem, a nation that was built after South Korea went into ruins. Every year, boys and girls from each of the twelve districts of Panem are selected as tributes and go to the Capitol to train for a week before they enter an outdoor arena to fight to the death. The event is nationally televised as mandatory viewing for all citizens and the last living tribute is declared the winner.

Some believe that the Hunger Games was set up from the Capitol to mock the 12 districts because years ago, a rebellion happened, and back then, instead of 12 districts, there was 13. The rebellion failed, and thus  the Capitol then made the Hunger Games to the rest of the surviving 12 districts to indirectly say that the districts are powerless and the Capitol have them all trapped in their grasps. 

As tributes battle in the arena, quite often they can become helpless. This is simply because of the Cornucopia bloodbath since the tributes are fighting over the items they need to win the Hunger Games. Many of the tributes are left with limited or no items they wanted from the Cornucopia. Wealthy viewers or groups of people can pool their funds and send items into the arena should a tribute need something, such as food, shelter, weapons, or medicine.

If the Gamemakers feel that there has not been enough bloodshed recentley, they will invite all of the tributes to the Cornicopia for a feast. Normally this feast features something desirable to the tributes, like food, armor, medicine, etc. so they will be more likely to go. Some still choose not to because these feasts usually result in a bloodbath. Attendance is not mandatory.

The arena is a large, enclosed, outdoor area where the Hunger Games are held each year. The arena is designed by the Gamemakers and changes every year. One year, it could be a dense forest, the next a freezing wasteland. The Gamemakers plant traps and cunning ideas into the arena, to entertain the Capitol audience. All arenas have a Cornucopia, where the tributes launch into the arena to begin the Games. The arenas were considered important historical landmarks, and were preserved after the conclusion of the Games. The arenas were also a popular tourist destination for many Capitol citizens, who would spend months vacation visiting the arena from their favorite games, where they would be able to rewatch the Games, visit the sites of the deaths and even take part in reenactments.

For this Hunger Games, the arena is in a rain forest where, not only are there plenty of water sources, but there are also many animals to hunt(if your character knows how to hunt) and deadly mutations. Some of the plants may be poisonous, and if the Gamemakers wish to, there may be severe weather conditions.
