ㄨ Nobody Wanted to Date Him

Description

Yoseob. Nobody wanted to date him. He was cute, sure. He was adorable, absolutely. His voice melted your inner being, definitely.

And yet, nobody wanted to date him.

Foreword

Nobody wanted to date him. He was cute, sure. He was adorable, absolutely. His voice melted your inner being, definitely.

And yet, nobody wanted to date him.

I’m not saying anything was wrong with him, it was just that, he was too cute.  That’s not supposed to be a problem, right? It was to him. And to the many women who’ve rejected him. The one aspect that brought him so many diehard fangirls was the also the one thing that hindered him from falling in love.

“It’s a curse,” he had always told me. “One of these days, I’m going to have to settle down and fall sincerely in love with a woman who wants me for me. But what can I do? With a face like this, I can’t fall in love easily. They only fall in love with me because I look ‘cute’, but what happens when these girls grow up? They all prefer ‘manly’ men.”

My heart would sink every time he told me that. While you girls saw as the super adorable ‘visual maknae’ with the extraordinary voice that could hold a high note for more than ten seconds, I saw the heartbroken, unhappy man who only wanted to be wanted.

“Nobody wants to date me,” he joked. He smiled at his own humor, but deep inside I knew he meant it.

And the thing is that he was right.

You should’ve seen the way so many girls would laugh at him as he would seriously ask them out on a date. He was sweet. They weren’t.

“ You looked really pretty today,” he smiled sheepishly at this one girl he’s been eyeing for several weeks already. I think her name was Soo Jin and she worked with Beast as one of their coordinators, despite the fact that she was just about the same age as them. “

Soo Jin giggled. “You’re funny.”

Yoseob’s smile widened. “Actually, you always looked pretty.”

Though he smiled, you could hear the sincerity in his voice. The usual, fun-loving Yoseob you saw onstage and in TV Shows was now a serious man in love.

Soo Jin’s smile slowly faded away as she had the feeling of where he was going with this, but she waited for him to continue.

“So, are you doing anything this weekend?”

Oh, the look on his face. Yes, he was adorable, and those innocent eyes would have killed you right there. However they hadn’t worked on Soo Jin.

“Oh…” She hesitated. “I think… er… I think I’m busy.”

Yoseob watched as she nervously checked the time on her cellphone.

“Well, then what about after that? Maybe the weekdays?” Yoseob insisted, clearly not giving up.

“Um… I don’t know…” Soo Jin’s face contorted in pity. She held up her hand to lay it on his shoulder, but Yoseob backed away, feeling beaten.

“I see. Sorry for bothering you then,” he replied weakly. He didn’t bother to look at her as he walked swiftly away, trying to hide his embarrassment.

I watched this type of situation unfold numerous times as I hid behind a corner or sat a few feet away looking like I was minding my own business. Every time he worked up the courage to ask a girl out, he’d try his best to look as mature as possible, but failing each time. The girls loved him, but not too much to actually date him. To them, he was just a boy but not boyfriend material.

“Are you sure she said no? I think she does want to go out with you. Maybe she’s just genuinely busy,” I tried persuading him after another one of his pursuits had failed.

“No she’s not. She’s just like the others.” He responded, a deep sense of disappointment lingered in his voice.

“I doubt it. I’m sure she really wants to –”

“Just shut up would you?” He snapped at me. “You always come in and tell me everything’s going to be alright and that the next girl would certainly say yes. But do you know what? You lied. Your words are lies. I’m not listening to you.”

He got up and heaved a deep sigh. I just sat where I was, both terrified and shocked. Though I had seen him sad and desolate, never had I seen this side of him.

The anger that was pent up in him from all those quick heartbreaks was now being poured out on me. But what could I do? I was nothing. I wasn’t like those other girls who deserved his attention and care. I was just there for him to cry on and then forget about when a new girl walked by.

“Nobody wants to date me,” he spoke almost inaudibly.

That was the truth.

To him, I was a nobody.

I was a nobody, and I wanted to date him.

A/N: This is supposed to be a oneshot. But what do you think? Should be a chaptered story? :) This is a completely different type of fic (for me) and it's going to be a challenge, because I'm putting happy-go-lucky Yoseob into a character personality that is opposite of what I see. But who knows? He's human and we may never know what happens to them 'when the door closes'.

Oh my gosh, you must be joking. o___o the ONE Beast story that I had bookmarked all this time (compared to the other 50 stories about Beast that I bookmarked) that I actually checked regulary for some time...was YOURS? o____o talk about coincidences. But honestly, heh. I really liked this story (or, how far it went) because of it's uniqueness (and writing style !) Definitely different from all those stories I followed before I had an account, and it was captivating :) I hope you will pick up on this story again. ^_^ I guess you were a Yoseob bias at one point? I know he's in my top 5 of ultimate biases :) Anticipating your updates on either stories~
