A Secretary is Not a Toy

(A Sibum Oneshot)

            A knock sounded on the solid oak door of the company head’s office. Mr. Choi Siwon swung his attention from the papers that he had been studying to the underling that had just disturbed him. This had to be something important, or a head or two would definitely roll.

“What is it? I’m in the middle of something,” Siwon asked, his eyes narrowing in annoyance. The man who knocked on the door visibly tensed at the newly violent atmosphere.

“Uh…Your new secretary is here, Mr. Siwon, sir.” The man replied in a shaky voice. Siwon blinked a few times at this. New secretary?

“That’s right… Send him in, if you please.” Siwon ordered.

            The man scuttled out as quickly as he could.  He sighed with relief, glad that he was out of there. He hurried down the plush hallway that only the company head could ever have near his office, what, with the soft red carpets, the art that the company paid for on the walls, and he had his own waiting room for Christ’s sake! I mean, who could have that and not be a CEO? The underling sighed as he re-entered the afore-mentioned waiting room. He walked over to the small, black haired man who was waiting.

“Kim Kibum, you can go right in. He’s waiting. And good luck.” Kibum looked up and nodded, straightening his tie and dress shirt.

“Thanks. And I will probably need it.” Kibum replied. He walked through the hallway, his heart beating more erratically with each step. What if this went like all the other jobs? Would he be fired the first day all over again? He shook away these thoughts and knocked twice on the door.

“Come in.” said a deep, sultry voice from the office beyond. Kibum gulped and entered.

            Once the smaller man’s shoe hit the carpeted floor of the office, the violent atmosphere that had been in place moments before, melted away. Eyes met and gazes were held. A smile slowly spread across Siwon’s face. He knew that this was going to make things much more interesting. Kibum was the first to break the silence.

“Um…Hello Mr. Siwon. I’m Kim Kibum and I guess I’m your new secretary.” He said, fidgeting with the hem of his untucked shirt nervously. He glanced up at the older man to see him smiling.

“Well, we will be seeing a lot of each other, won’t we?” Siwon replied, standing up and walking over to Kibum. Kibum tensed a bit.

“I suppose so…” Kibum mumbled. “So, what do I have to do?”

“Well, you just need to take my calls, file my paperwork…things like that. It’s not too difficult once you get the swing of things. And just call me Siwon, alright, Kibum?” Siwon explained, smiling again when he saw Kibum’s shoulders relax a bit.

“Alright. I’m sure I won’t be a problem, then.”

“I certainly hope not. I like you already, Kibum. Now, let’s go out to your work space.” And with that, Siwon led the shorter man into the hallway once more.

OoOoO A Few Days Later oOoOo

            A slip of paper landed squarely in the middle of the paperwork that Kibum had been hell-bent on completing only moments ago. It was folded several times and had his name written across the front in professional script. Kibum all but laughed at how childish receiving the note was. He glanced up at the person who had dropped it on his desk. He wasn’t surprised to see it was his boss that had gotten closer to him in the last few days.

            Slowly, Kibum unfolded the paper gently. The complicated folds took a few minutes to undo in Kibum’s small hands. Once he had succeeded in opening it, he smiled warmly at the short note that was written there.

‘Kibum, this may be a bit childish but, I would like it if you would go out to lunch with me today.

            Kibum stood and walked down the, now familiar corridor, to Siwon’s office. He pictured everything that had been bothering him since he started working for Siwon’s company. The confusion that he had gone through in sifting through his feelings was the biggest problem. He had come to realize that his feelings for his boss were something that shouldn’t take place between co-workers. Kind of like the saying no ual relationships in the work place. Kibum shrugged this last thought off and knocked on Siwon’s office door.

“Enter,” Siwon’s voice called from the room behind the door. Kibum entered and smirked, crossing his arms over his chest and looking at Siwon. He dangled the note from the boss in front of himself.

“Since it is, in fact, childish to send notes like a hormonal high-school boy, I came to answer it in person.” Kibum stated. Siwon perked a bit at the proclamation.

“And…?”

“I accept. I will meet you on the ground floor when lunch begins.” Kibum said, spinning around on his heel to exit.

            Siwon watched the young man exit the office, and couldn’t help but grin. He was immensely satisfied with himself at this new chance at his secretary. He was so busy reveling in the self-satisfaction; he almost didn’t notice the not so quiet entrance of a certain brunette. Almost.

“Choi Siwon what do you think you’re doing?!” The brunette yelled, slamming the doors open. Siwon’s head jolted up and stared at the man who had entered his office.

“Um...Leeteuk?” He asked, using the man’s permanent nickname. The man in question planted himself directly in front of the desk, scowling.

“I saw what just happened between you and that precious Kibum boy!” The older of the two men yelled.

“And..?”

“That was a flirty type note wasn’t it?!”

“And…?”

“You aren’t supposed to flirt with coworkers!”

“So…?”

“Don’t do it!!” Leeteuk flailed and ended up tripping over the desk. Siwon laughed and rolled his eyes.

“Then why is it that I see you flirting with that Kangin boy from the mailroom on a daily basis?” Siwon asked, one eyebrow cocked in a mocking fashion. Leeteuk’s face went red at the mention of the mail boy’s name. Siwon couldn’t help but laugh at him.

“You’re not that secretive about it, honestly. So, why can’t I do the same?”

“Well…uh…” Leeteuk backed out of the room, finding words failing him. “Well just be careful! A secretary isn’t a toy, you know!”

            Siwon rolled his eyes yet again and looked at the clock. He was surprised to find that it was nearly time for lunch. He stood and gathered his things. He hummed happily as he made his way through the corridors to the elevator that would take him down to meet the cute boy waiting for him in the lobby. As he walked through the office cubicles, he noticed that Leeteuk was hurriedly speaking with Kangin, his face blushing horribly. As Siwon passed, Kangin’s eyes followed him, a shocked expression on the mail boy’s face.  Siwon pushed this off as he entered the elevator.

            One button push and a short ride later, and Siwon was standing in the lobby of his office building. It didn’t take long for Siwon to find his little Kibum. The boy was standing in a remote corner of the lobby, his nose buried in a book. Siwon debated on whether to go over to him or just stand there and watch the secretary read. He finally decided on going over to him. Kibum looked up, a cool gaze rested on the taller man.

“So you finally show up. I waited for ten minutes.” Kibum stated simply. He closed his book and placed it in his pocket. Was it that small when Siwon approached?

“Sorry, I had a deranged Leeteuk to deal with.” Siwon replied. Kibum smiled.

“He’s got a god heart. He treats me like I’m his child.”

“That’s how he treats us all. Except Kangin.”

“That guy from the mailroom?”

“The very same man.” Kibum laughed at this and Siwon could feel his heart melt at he beautiful sound. Kibum watched Siwon and blushed lightly. At that moment, both men knew that something had just blossomed between them.

And the secretary was never the toy.
