Chapter 18. - FINAL

Our Protector

please read my A/N at the end if you have any respect for me as an author. thanks.

=====================================

It took about 3 weeks before Boss would let me out of the infirmary. He wanted to make sure I was fully healed, inside and out. I immediately went to the treadmills to get my body back up again.

“Yoonji, you have a phone call,” someone said behind me.

I turned around and one of the secretaries handed me a phone. I stopped the treadmill and took it.

“Hello?”

“Yoonji? Thank God.”

“Kris...”

I was dreading this phone call.

“How did you get this number?” I asked.

“I practically threatened my manager. Are you okay?”

“I'm speaking aren't I?”

“Did you get hurt?”

“Just a couple scratches...” I bit my lip. I decided to leave out the fact that I almost died.

“Chanyeol has been going crazy. You need to speak to him.”

“No.”

“What do you mean 'no'? He's been worried sick about you. He tried to sneak out to try to find you.”

My eyes started to water. “We...can't be together. Obviously. My life is in this training center.”

“You're very lucky I'm in China right now for promotions.” His voice was hard.

“I am.”

It was silent except for the static of the phone.

Kris spoke up first. “Well, I'm glad you're okay. I can't make you do anything but...just take care of yourself. Okay?”

I nodded but then I realized that Kris couldn't see me.

“Okay. You too. And good luck with promotions.”

“Bye Yoonji.”

“Bye Kris.”

Before I hung up, I heard a voice yell, “Duizhang! I want to talk to her!”

“She's busy,” was the last thing I heard before the line cut off.

I moved forward after that. I focused only on instructing other trainees. I had become the most wanted trainer in the field but of course, I was loyal to Boss and stayed with him. I no longer had the desire to be put on the field anymore. Ever since my first mission, my body hasn't been capable of doing what it used to. I'm not as fast, and sharp anymore. My body movements lagged and my reflexes weren't as good. So I stayed on the training floor, helping others that would be heroes one day.

Years passed and I still haven't found another man I could love. I lived in a nice suite Boss bought for me. He trusted me to live on my own once he knew I wouldn't go out and do anything that could put me into danger.

I sipped on a smoothie as I made my way home from another long day in the gym. I looked up and saw EXO's most recent music video playing on a large screen. The boys were charismatic as always. I stopped in my tracks for a moment when Chanyeol came up on the screen. I watched as his lips curled around his words as he was rapping.

I sighed and shook my head before making my way again to get some rest.

“Chanyeol hyung. Please?” Sehun begged.

“No.”

“Please?”

“No.”

“Pleeeease?”

“Noooooo.”

“But it's been two weeks. I'm going through bubble tea withdraw. I'm having symptoms! Look,” the maknae pointed to his pimple that was starting to form.

“Luhan hyung will be back from China soon. He can take you then.”

“But hyuuuung~”

“Ask the leader,” Chanyeol continued to pressed the buttons on the game console, not blinking an eye.

“He's helping Kyungsoo hyung with dinner.”

“Baekhyun hyung?”

“He's still at vocal practice.”

“Jongin.”

“That lazy won't do anything besides take off his clothes.”

“HEY!” Jongin's voice boomed.

As if on cue, Chanyeol lost his game and sighed.

“Fine. Only because I just lost.”

Sehun jumped up and ran to his room to grab a hat.

The two walked through the dark streets with their hands in their pockets, trying to keep a low profile. They walked into Sehun's favorite bubble tea shop and Chanyeol sat down at the table by the window as the younger happily ordered his drink.

Sehun sat down in the chair across of him and handed him a drink.

“Here. I paid. Thanks for coming with me.”

“Thanks,” Chanyeol said and took a long sip.

It was quiet as they chewed on their tapioca pearls.

“Hyung.”

“Hmm.”

“I know it's been a really long time. But...have you ever thought about Yoonji?”

Chanyeol winced a bit at the name but he nodded.

“Of course I do.”

“Do you think she's still alive?”

Chanyeol didn't know the answer. He knew that he shouldn't underestimate her abilities, but if she was still alive, she would've kept her promise, right?

“If she is then she broke her promise. Keeping me waiting, worrying and missing her for this long. I'm not exactly happy with her right now.”

“But you still love her.”

After awhile, Chanyeol nodded. “But I could be loving someone that's dead for all I know.”

Sehun pouted and looked out the window, feeling bad for his hyung.

“I'm sorry it turned out this way.”

Chanyeol shook his head. “It's not your fault.”

Sehun saw a figuring walking along the sidewalk and he immediately straightened up.

“Hyung...” he whispered.

“I just wish that I could've talked her out of being an assassin. Maybe the mission could've been given to someone else, you know?”

“Hyung...”

“But Yoonji was so hard-headed. It would've taken lots of convincing.”

“Hyung...” Sehun stood up.

Chanyeol kept on talking. “But maybe she would've broken up with me if I had talked her out of her dream.”

“Hyung! Look! It's Yoonji!” Sehun pointed out the window and started jumping up and down.

Chanyeol's eyes widened and he followed the younger's finger to look out the window.

And there she was, standing there holding a smoothie while staring up at a large screen.

“Yoonji...” Chanyeol whispered, heart suddenly aching all over again.

Sehun started do jumping jacks to get her attention but Chanyeol stopped him.

“Stop! I have a plan.”

Yoonji started walking again and Sehun pointed to her. “Look she's leaving!”

“Shhh. Follow me.”

The two boys disposed of their half-empty drinks and left the shop quietly.

The next day, I woke up and stared at the ceiling for a moment before getting up and starting the day.

I my iPod speaker and and EXO song came on as I brushed my teeth. I bobbed my head along with the music and started getting dressed. I turned off the speaker after I brushed my hair and walked to the kitchen to make some coffee.

As I was waiting, the doorbell rang.

“Who would come here at eight in the morning?” I whispered as I made my way to the door.

I looked in the peephole and there was no one there.

“Probably a package.”

I opened the door and looked down to see a plant. I furrowed my eyebrows and picked it up. A wave of emotions washed through me when I realized what it was.

Gus.

I stared at it for a couple of seconds before stepping out of my apartment and turned to my left.

“He got big, didn't he?” a voice asked.

I turned around and saw him standing there, leaning on the wall with his arms crossed.

I just stared at him, debating if if this was real or not. I've dreamed of his face so many times that I couldn't even tell what was reality and what was a dream.

Chanyeol grinned and pushed passed me into my apartment.

I followed him, without a word and shut the door behind me.

“Wah, what a nice place you have here,” he said as he looked around.

“Chanyeol...” I said quietly, clutching onto Gus. “What are you doing here?”

“Visiting my baby. What do you think I'd be doing here?”

We locked gazes and my bottom lip trembled.

Chanyeol's eyes widened and his smile faded. “Oh no. Don't cry. This was supposed to be a happy reunion.” He started to walk towards me.

Once he wrapped his arms around me, I lost it. I started to sob into his shirt as he held me.

“What kind of man am I? Making you cry already...” he sighed.

“How'd you find me?”

“Technically Sehun did. He saw you walking down the street and then we kinda followed you here. Now I owe that little bubble tea for a month.”

“You followed me home?!” I looked up with furrowed eyebrows.

He laughed cheekily. “Desperate times call for desperate measures...?”

I shook my head and buried my face into his shirt. “I'm sorry I didn't try to contact you. I should've-”

“Shhh. It's in the past now. All that matters is right now. And you're with me right now and I don't care about anything else.”

Chanyeol placed a hand under my chin to tilt my face up.

“I've been waiting to do this. Don't leave me again,” he whispered and leaned his face down.

Our lips touched again for the first time in years and I sighed. I missed his lips so much.

We kissed slowly, not rushing it and savoring the moment.

All of a sudden, Chanyeol bit my tongue.

I pulled away, shocked. “What was that for?”

He chuckled. “Okay, so maybe I am a little mad. An email would've been better than nothing!”

I laughed and hugged his torso, Gus still in my hand. “All that matters is...” I started to quote him as I got up on my tippy toes to kiss him again. “...right now.”

Chanyeol smiled into the kiss.

“And right now...I want some coffee. I spent all night driving to that cabin for Gus to make this reunion more romantic.”

I grinned and nodded.

I took his hand and dragged him to the kitchen. I set Gus down on the counter and got out two mugs from the cupboard. As I poured us coffee, Chanyeol wrapped his arms around my waist and rested his chin on my shoulder.

“Mmm, smells good.”

“Doesn't it? Imported from that country that makes good coffee.”

“Brazil.”

“Right. That place.”

That's when I realized that Chanyeol had gotten a lot more mature. As if to contradict my thought, he slapped my .

“You got fat.”

I gasped and turned around to pout at him.

“No I did not! I'm just more...curvy since I don't do the intense work outs anymore. I'm only an instructor now.”

He smiled. “I'm just kidding. I like it that you're not so skinny anymore.” He took a sip of the coffee and I followed suit.

He set the mug down and trapped me between the counter and his body. He leaned in, lips grazing over mine. His breathe was hot and smelled like coffee.

“I love you,” he whispered. “I never stopped and I never will.”

“I love you too.”

Before he could kiss me, I flicked his forehead.

“OW!” his deep voice boomed.

“That was for calling me fat.” I walked away and stuck my tongue out at him.

He pouted and quickly ran to me to do damage control.

“Babe, I'm sorry! I told you I was joking!”

He chased me around the apartment and tackled me on the couch refusing to let go. But I was okay with that because I didn't want him to.

I didn't have the intention of leaving him again.

Never again.

==============================

i have made my decision and i will be going on a permanent hiatus after i am done with my other story Prospect Academy of the Skilled, so that means i won't be writing another EXO story. i really love EXO and i'm sorry i couldn't stick around as an author long enough to give you more EXO stories even though i really want to. I had so many storylines in my head.

I started writing a couple years ago because i enjoyed it, and because it helped me deal with things. But lately, writing has become a chore rather than something that i want to do everyday. Also, this year is my senior year so i'll be busier with preparations for college and studying because my classes are harder. I simply won't be able to commit to writing like i used to.

I know lots of you have been with me since the beginning to this day and i thank you so much for keeping up with me. I really hope you guys respect my decision.

BUT. This is not the last you will see of me.

This doesn't mean I'm quitting writing altogether. Writing has become an effective way to help me cope with things that go on in my life. When I'm angry, i write. When I'm sad, i write. When I'm happy, i write. So when i have that desire to write, i will write and i will let you all read them because I've known some of you for awhile and i feel like through stories, fandoms come together really well. So i made a oneshot series that i will use to post my oneshots that i might write in the future.

But take note, i will only be writing when i feel like it. So don't expect an update every week like normal. I can't control when i feel like writing.

I want to thank you all again for supporting me as a writer and friend for all this time. Don't think I'll be disappearing on this site forever! I will still be coming on AFF to read stories and talk to you guys so feel free to drop by and say hi whenever you want. Make my day brighter. :D

Here's the link to my oneshot series: http://www.asianfanfics.com/story/view/247265
