Goin' Away

Everything was perfect for Shin Ha Rin, she had a very loving and supporting family, she was a straight ‘A’ student and it’s not a surprise that she’s at the top in her school. She also had the perfect boyfriend or so she thought until she found him cheating on her. Well it was expected anyway as she became the girlfriend of the well-known playboy in their campus and of course she knew that but she thought that he changed since she never caught him in act despite the murmurs she heard from other people.

She caught him the first time but in the end she forgave him since he did promise that he won’t do it again and that he had actually done that due to the influence of alcohol. Ha Rin obviously believed his words and blinded herself with the truth that she would never be able to change him.

“One more shot.” slurred the guy it was way too obvious that he was drunk. His friend tried to stop him and knock some sense into him but it was no use the impact of the liquor took over him.

“Hyung you’re already drunk. Ha Rin would throw a fit if she sees you in this state.” Woohyun, his best friend, said as he took the glass away from the drunken man.

“She doesn’t have to know besides she’s busy studying for her upcoming finals so we won’t meet ‘till then. I have time to party and have some fun.” he had no idea what he was saying and his vision was starting to get blurry a sign that he’s way over his limits.

“Let’s get you home.” he then took his friends arms and swung it over his shoulders as he assisted him to stand up.

As they were on their way out of the noisy place with lights flashing with different colours a girl stood in front of them making them stop in their tracks. It was obvious that she was eyeing the drunken man and she was flirting with him with just her eyes. Woohyun being the gentleman flashed her a smile which she totally ignored and went near his friend. Before she could go near him though Woohyun held his hand out stopping her, she glared at him.

“I’m sorry but me and my friend are leaving and he’s already taken so it’s best if you just leave him alone.” he said politely as he dragged his friend with him.

“Her girlfriend won’t find out so don’t worry and I don’t think your friend would want to leave just yet.” she said as she shove Woohyun’s hand away and approached him.

“Go ahead Woohyun I think I’ll stay for a while longer.” his friend said as he took the girls’ hand and led her to the dance floor.

“Suit yourself just don’t blame me when your relationship falls down the bridge.” he said as he made his way out. He had enough of reprimanding his friend, he had warned him a few times more than he could even count but it was no use. It was like it was already part of his daily life - clubbing and flirting with girls and worse sleeping with some of them. Well he already knew he was like that but when he met Ha Rin he thought that his friend, the playboy, had changed but much to his dismay even that girl could not change him.

Ha Rin decided to give Sunggyu a surprise visit since they had not met for almost two weeks because she was busy studying for her exams. She smiled as she was satisfied with the lunch she had just made. She wanted to make it up to him by taking him out to have a picnic and just spend time together even if it was just for a while.

She knocked on the door for the umpteenth time. She then resorted to her last choice and that was to use his spare key. She remembered him telling her that he places a spare key under the mats in case he forgets or misplaces his. She knelt down to look for the key under the mat and she smiled as she felt the hard cold metal on her fingertips.

She inserted the key in the keyhole and slowly turned the doorknob. A strong smell of alcohol welcomed her nostrils. She bent down to take of her shoes and placed it near the shoe rack. She walked her way to the living room and the lights. The sight made her eyes widened and inappropriate images flashed in her mind. The living room was a total trash with things knocked down on the floor.

She shakily made her way to Sunggyu’s room and slowly turned the handle, she didn’t want to wake him up and to let him know that she was there. She closed her eyes as she fully opened the door, she was actually afraid to open it because she was fully aware of what she would see since it wasn’t the first time she witnessed his house like that. The thought still made her feel scared, scared that she would lose him soon.

Flashbacks from before suddenly flashed in her mind.

“Why did you agree to be his girlfriend? You do know that he’s a cassanova?” her friend said as she learned of Ha Rin’s relationship with Sunggyu.

“Give him a chance he said he would change.” she answered though she herself doubted that he will but what could she do? She fell for him and she hated that fact because she knows she will be put into more pain than she could imagine and it was true enough.

“I told you once a player always a player.” that same friend of hers said as they caught him cheating on her for the first time but Ha Rin being the girl madly in love with him forgave him but after that incident it made things a lot more worse. He had shown his true colours but Ha Rin decided to blind herself with the reality.

Once she had opened her eyes a small gasp escaped . There he was his lower half covered with a blanket with a girl beside him. She was snapped out of her trance when she saw the girl woke up. She was too shocked to even move a muscle and she just followed the woman with her eyes, seems like she hadn’t notice her presence yet.

The girl stood up and covered herself with another blanket that fell on the floor and took her clothes to get dressed in the bathroom. Once she got out she was startled with Ha Rin’s presence; she smirked at her before passing past her and brushed her shoulders against hers.

Ha Rin was filled with mix emotions mostly anger and pain. She held the tears that were threatening to fall down. She looked up and blinked a few times.

Sunggyu woke up hearing a soft sob, he sat up and held his aching head. He opened his eyes and scanned the room and his eyes landed on a girl who was unaware that he had woke up.

“H-Ha Rin?” he stuttered and the said girl looked at him. His heart ached as he saw her crying face. He felt guilty because he knew he was the cause of it.

In all honesty Sunggyu did try his best to change for her but he was never able to resist temptation. He grew up with no one guiding him since his parents were always away and so at a very young age he was influenced with vices that he grew accustomed too. It became a part of his daily life and even if he wanted to stop he couldn’t.

Out of all the girls he had dated though, Ha Rin was the longest one and he really loves her but he couldn’t take it any longer. He didn’t want to hurt her further. She was a perfect girlfriend anyone could ask for and he thought to himself that he didn’t deserve someone like her in his life. He thought that she deserves someone better than a bastard like him.

He sighed as he looked at her. “I’m sorry.” was all he said as the girl in front of him continued to cry. *This is it Kim Sunggyu. You were bound to do this sooner or later* he thought to himself as he stood up and covered himself with the blanket.

When Ha Rin saw him stand up she immediately left and Sunggyu took the chance to get dressed, once he was done he expected that she was gone but to his surprise she was at the kitchen making him coffee. *How did I ever had a girl like you in my life?* he thought as a smile formed on his lips as he watched her move around in the kitchen searching for sugar.

Ha Rin was startled when an arm passed by her to grab the sugar she couldn’t reach but she didn’t look. She didn’t want to look at him right now. She then took it from him and made his coffee. When she was done she handed it to him. She slowly looked up and watched as he drank the warm drink. She was hurt but she couldn’t stop the smile forming on her lips, he looked really cute and innocent like a little child and that reminded her why she fell in love with him. He was a playboy but there was a side of him he never showed to anyone unless they were close to him and she was one of those. He was like a little kid that loves to whine about small things; he looks cute when he’s jealous and most of all he made her feel loved that she was the only girl in his eyes. But that person was being out weighted by his bad habits.

“I’m sorry but I think it’s best if we break up.” he started as he looked at her straight in the eye. Those words coming from his mouth hurt him but he was afraid, afraid that he would just cause her so much more pain. He couldn’t let himself feel the guilt eat him up inside. He knew what kind of person he was and he knows very well that their relationship would fall sooner or later so before he becomes more attached to her than he is now he wanted to stop so that the both of them won’t be wounded any further.

“Don’t say that I’ll…” but he cut her off. “Don’t make this hard for me. We both know very well that I won’t change and that in the end I’ll still be hurting you. Trust me this is the best for the both of us.” his eyes were starting to get teary but he didn’t show it because if she did than she would know his feelings for her and she won’t leave. As much as he loves her he can’t control himself and he wanted her to have happiness instead of all the pain she had gone through because of him.
