Chapter 3

:: The Boy ::

Nozomi opens the door and walks into her house. She runs up the stairs and to her room as fast as she can, not wanting to be bothered by the maids. 

When she gets upstairs, she immediately slams the door shut, falls onto her bed and drops her face into her pillow. She couldn’t help but think about the handsome guy who helped her at the mall. What was his name again …?

::FLASHBACK::

“WHAT WAS THAT??” The leader looks up. The two girls see a boy standing there. The boy had dark chocolate brown hair. He was dressed in a pair of jeans and a white dress shirt. The first couple of buttons were undone and hanging around his neck was a loose tie. Wow, how could a boy look so good in just jeans and a dress shirt?

The boy ignores the leader and instead, coolly shoves his hands in his pocket. He looks over at Nozomi and Ayako with a soft smile. “Are you okay?”

“Hey, I wasn’t done talking to her!!” the leader interrupts. He swiftly hauls himself off the floor and his followers straighten up, getting ready to fight. He pushes the boy to the side and walks angrily over to Nozomi and points to his stained shirt. “You see this?! How are you going to compensate for this?!”

“I-I’ll pay for dry cleaning. Look, there’s a dry cleaning store over there.” Nozomi stutters and points to the store somewhere to the left. “I’ll go look at the prices and then I’ll give you money for the shirt.”

Somewhere behind the leader, the boy gets up and calmly pats his clothes clean from the dirty floor. He puts his hand on the leader’s shoulder and forcefully turns him around to the side so he can see Nozomi. “You shouldn’t have to pay for his shirt. A gentleman would never let a lady pay for an accident.” He shifts his gaze over to the leader and narrows his eyes. “It’s rude.”

The leader lets out a growl and pushes his hand off his shoulder before shoving him backwards. “Who are you anyway?! This is none of your business! Get out of here before I get angry!”

The boy looks unaffected and instead, fetches his wallet out from his back pocket and looks through his cash. “How much do you want? Fifty? A hundred?”

Nozomi looks up surprised and reaches a hand out to stop him. “No, I can pay for this—”

“Just give me two hundred!” the leader yells, interrupting once again. As soon as he gets his money, he stuffs it in his pocket and turns to glare at Nozomi and Ayako before going off with his followers. “You girls got lucky. You’d better watch it next time!”

As soon as they are out of sight, Ayako lets out a sigh of relief and they both turn to face the guy. Nozomi quickly bows in gratitude. “Thank you so much!”

“It’s fine,” he says, smiling. “He was causing a disturbance anyway.”

“Uh, I’m Ayako and this is Nozomi.” Aya blurts out. She points at herself and then at Nozomi before turning back to him. “It’s nice to meet you!”

His smile never leaves his face as he reaches out to shake her hand. “I’m Mir.”
