“Please go out with me?” she asked soft-spoken and sweet.

“Sorry, no I…” his words trailed off as he saw her tears. He would never be good at this. No matter how many girls confessed to him; he always seem to make them cry.

Be a man. He sighed and firmly stated, “No, sorry, but I do not like you.”

“Bbb-utt…” The girl fled, tears trailing her cheeks.

Why do they always confess to me? Sungyeol wondered.

He had no interest and never expressed an interest in girls. Sighing he made the rest of the way to the woods. Out of prying eyes, he stripped off his shirt ,then jeans, then everything else until he was . He closed his eyes and remembered. Remembered he was not human, he was a beast and the felt himself empty and fill up with magic.  He felt alive.

Hair sprouted over his face and body as he shrunk. He stretched out as his face grew oblong and eyes moved closer together. He was a fox, not quite a nine tails yet. Slightly larger than normal fo,x he still only had one tail since he was pretty young. Breathing, he started in a trot and broke into a run. Paw over paw stretching out muscles that a human body never used properly. A reddish blur tackled him. Pant-pant. Towering over him was a fox of a deeper reddish brown color. Tilting its head, he invited Sungyeol to play. Twisting his body he pounced, crashing into the ground as the other fox dodged. Nipping each others’ collar, scratching paws, and chasing each other the two foxes played like children.

She saw the two and snapped pictures. It’s them. She thought growling.

A curious not so intelligent squirrel inched down from a nearby tree and both foxes pounced tearing the poor dear in two. Stripping the flesh off its bones, the foxes devoured their small snack. Snap. The two looked up and spotted a man several feet away. Crowding under a bush the two focused, magic flowed through their minds and they shaped it. The illusion grew and took form; the empty clearing took on a flowers pretty and sweet. The fool fell for it and walked into the meadow as he saw it. Sungyeol and the nameless fox took claim of a fraction of that man’s energy, not enough to kill just to keep them from starving.

Craw-craw. A crow flew into the orange sky. Orange. Sungyeol thought realizing he had to return home. He took off into the under bush. Closing his eyes, he let the magic form a lace over his body morphing his natural form into that of a human. Cough-kkkurgh He coughed as the cooling breeze touched his skin. Quickly, he pulled on his clothes. Snap. He glared back to see a nearly boy a bit older than him.

“Why are you pretending?” the nameless one asked.

Blinking he growled, “What I do is my business and none of yours.”

“Cool it, Dongwoo hyung,” another partly covered boy came to sight. He was the reddish fox Sungyeol was playing with before. Spliting his mouth into a shining smile, he introduced himself, “Howon, but call me Hoya.”

“Sungyeol,” he said with a glint of caution in his voice. That man’s, Dongwoo, words brought back unpleasant memories. Looking sideways at the two he pulled the rest of his clothes on and took off. The memories came back to plague him.

“Myu,” a small girl stood grasping his hand with trembling fingers, “Should we be here?”

“Don’t be a baby,” he lisped dragging her along. Sungyeol stared from below a shrub curious of the two humans.

“Why? Mama told me we shouldn’t be here,” Mimi whimpered her mother was dangerous if angered.

“I want you to meet a friend… SUNGYEOL!” Myungsoo shouted on the top of his lungs and nearly made the girl wet herself.

Sungyeol looked and slowly transformed to one of them. Giggling, he answered, “Yes?”

Mimi screamed bloody murder. Confused, Myungsoo looked to the sky while Sungyeol checked his body. A fluffy, full fox tail was popping out of his pants. Mimi stared although afraid he would devour her.

“You-rrr aaaa…” after a few seconds she gave up and yelled, “MONSTER!”

Years later…

“Ouch!” the same girl that had yelled Monster winced now as she cleaned Sungyeol’s front paw.

“Morons…” Myungsoo scowled in anger at the blood covered bear trap near Sungyeol.

He shrugged, “It’s okay I should have watched my step.”

He started to run jumping over fences, around mailboxes, and under bushes. Faster and faster running away from the next memory.

Blood spurted from the jagged rip in his neck, claw marks covered his mangled body. His hair matted with blood, sweat, and dirt clung to his forehead.  The ground stained a dark burgundy as empty eyes stared back out at Sungyeol. Myungsoo’s body lay torn by beasts like a rag doll thrown by an uninterested child. The iron tang of blood assaulted his senses and regret well up in his gut. Sungyeol feel two paths of tears burn their way down his cheeks. Blood dried up his finger nails and sweat glued his clothes to his body. Bile punched its way up his throat as he realized what he had done.

Sungyeol crashed through his neighbors’ hedge. Thorns ripped his clothes, cutting his skin. Thump. His feet slammed the stairs up to his door. Thump thump thump… He crashed into his room falling into the twin bed.

He had… tears blurred his vision… torn him to pieces. Sungyeol had hunted Myungsoo. He puked as he remembered the frantic look to Myungsoo’s eyes as he chased him down. Guilt ripped up his side as he remembered his teeth cutting through warm flesh.

Sungyeol griped his stomach curling up in pain. The squirrel worked its way back up his insides. He wanted to pour bleach into his brain and wipe out his memories.

The figure watched the damn fox twist and turn. A pain stung her neck and the hair on her hands prickled. Slender hands slipped into a large grey bag griping a handle. The figure moved carefully and quietly through that demon’s open window. He stood over the grief-wrecked fox weapon in hand.

“Ugh-hrm…” The figure made herself known. Sungyeol’s eyes popped and his mouth opened into an o.

A grimace twisted the figure’s mouth and her raised his cross blade and aimed it at his heart.

“Mimi…” he whispered shocked.

Her eyes hardened, “Don’t say my name scum.”

Why?” he asked feeling numb. He hadn’t seen his childhood friend since then.

“You know why,” she spat and let the arrow fly. Whap! It pierced his ribcage like butter and sliced his heart. Gurgling sounds popped from his chest as he coughed up blood. The whites of his eyes showed when his eyes rolled up in head.

“Bye,” she sighed. As she turned to leave the boy morphed back into a beautiful fox with a scarlet stain spreading over his heart and his panting breath slowed to a stop.
