Parting

Entwined Horizons

Mich found herself standing on the balcony, a gentle breeze playing with loose strands of her hair. The night sky stretched above, adorned with stars, creating a canvas of introspection. The realization had been lingering, subtle as a whisper, but tonight, it demanded acknowledgment.

As she gazed into the vastness above, Mich admitted to herself the truth she had been evading — she had developed feelings for Ann. The connection they shared, the laughter, the support, it had grown into something deeper. It wasn't a realization that struck suddenly but rather a gradual understanding that had woven itself into the fabric of their camaraderie.

Yet, even in the quiet acknowledgment of her feelings, Mich was grounded by a profound sense of respect. Ann was in a relationship, a commitment that Mich had no intention of interfering with. She appreciate and respect Ann's choices, and the last thing she wanted to do was to risk Ann's happiness.

Mich knew that the most respectful course of action was to guard these sentiments in the silent chambers of her heart.

As dawn broke on their last day in Mexico, Mich couldn't ignore the subtle tension in the air. She, despite expressing her eagerness to return home, carried an unspoken sentiment — a desire to prolong their time together. Ann could actually sense the conflicting emotions within Mich, the pull of responsibilities versus the yearning to stay.

Mich’s frequent remarks about going home, surrounded by family, friends and supporters, carried a nuanced undertone. There was a palpable longing in her voice, a hint that staying a bit longer in this shared adventure, especially with Ann, held an unspoken appeal.

Ann, too, grappled with her own emotions. The prospect of saying goodbye loomed, a bittersweet reality that cast a shadow over their remaining moments.

The desire to be with Ann longer felt selfish, but Mich couldn't deny the ache of impending separation.

In the quietude of their last day in Mexico, Mich greeted Ann with her usual warmth. As they prepared for the day ahead, Mich resolved to be a steadfast friend, cherishing the bond they shared without letting the currents of unspoken emotions disrupt the harmony. The impending goodbye hung in the air, a silent acknowledgment that made every shared moment all the more precious.

“You’re hungry. But how could you have so much energy left?”

“Do I?”

“Hmm, you’re kind of extra cheerful today.”

“Don’t you like it?”

“I think it’s kind a cute.”

“I’m always cute.”

Ann playfully took a deep breath. “Okay, I shouldn’t have said that.”

A burst of laughter echoed between them, marveling at the delightful irony of seamlessly complementing each other one moment, only to dive into sarcastic teasing the next—an intricate dance of playful banter that defined their unique connection.

Both of them laughed until Mich suddenly gasped.

“Have you removed your makeup!?”

Mich squinted her eyes examining Ann’s face. Ann stared at her as she lean closer.

“I’m sorryyyy.” Ann exclaimed with a hint of regret.

“I was just gone for 10 minutes!” They came back to their room together. Mich needed to go for a while to discuss something with her team.

“You didn’t even noticed, we’ve been talking for a while already.” Ann giggled.

“Because you literally look the same!” Mich exclaimed stating that Ann looks equally beautiful with or without makeup.

"Thanks," Ann responded, a touch of pride in her voice as she casually boasted, "I'm well aware of that."

“I don’t wanna do the live na.” Mich protested.

“Sorry naa, I got excited when I came back. It slips on my mind.”

“Nah, I won’t do it with you na.”

“But it’s our last live!” Ann pouted trying to console the other.

“But I’m hungryyy.” Mich whined.

“It’s okay I ordered food for us.” Ann said softly.

“You’re the best.” Mich gave a two thumbs up.

“I know, let’s do the live now so we can eat after.”

“Okiee”

After their live session and meal.

Mich was sitting on the edge of her bed drinking water.

"I'm gonna miss you." Ann suddenly spoke. She sat on her own bed in front of Mich.

“So straight forward.” Mich thought.

"I'm gonna miss you too. So much." Her response was equally sincere.

“I know, you’re too clingy.”

"Excuse me!?"

"Okay, you can pass." Ann giggled as she move aside.

Mich was amused.

“So annoying. But yeah, I guess I got used to having you by my side." Mich remarked, toying with the water bottle on her hand.

Ann extended her hand, subtly implying a request to hold Mich's. And without missing a beat, Mich willingly held Ann’s hand.

"I'm asking for the water bottle. I'm thirsty." Ann chuckled, teasing with a twinkle in her eyes.

In a moment of realization, it hit Mich, she was speechless so she handed the bottle to Ann with a playful force, eliciting even louder laughter from Ann. The sheer joy in Ann's laughter was infectious, and Mich found herself unable to hide the smile that spread across her face.

Embracing the playful atmosphere, Ann, caught in the delight of the moment, she leaped towards Mich for an impromptu hug causing Mich to fall backwards on her bed.

“Okay I’ll behave na. You’re such a baby.”

Without any fanfare, Ann casually move beside Mich, resting her head on the latter's upper arm as Mich continue to lay facing the sealing. It was as if it were the most natural thing to do. With nonchalance, Ann retrieved her phone and seamlessly began scrolling through her Instagram feed, blurring the lines between ordinary and extraordinary moments.

“I’m gonna miss you for real. But it’s okay since we will meet again soon.” Ann said. She moved to the part of the bed where the pillows are followed by Mich and they lay sideways facing each other.

“Hmm, it’s not a goodbye but a see you soon.” Mich was glad this is not the end. They were informed that next year they will have projects together since the demand is high.

“You can always contact me. Tell me if anything. I’ll fly straight away to you.”

Mich chuckled. “Are you even gonna answer me? You might answer everyone like a chat bot, but me.” She teased.

Ann gasp, "Stop teasing me about it! I've been trying to make up for it since we got closer. You're so annoying!"

Mich chuckled but then seriously said, “You know, it’s the same for me. Just tell me if you need me, I’d fly to you no matter what.”

“You can’t take that back now.” Ann uttered sleepily.

"Hmm, I don't have any intentions of taking it back." Mich replied with a gentle reassurance.

Their conversation continued in the quiet dimness, the exchange of words gradually giving way to the rhythmic cadence of shared silence. As the night unfolded, they found themselves drifting into a peaceful slumber. The unspoken connection lingered in the air, creating a serenity that enveloped them as they journeyed into the realm of dreams together.

It was around 4am. And the time came for their farewell, Ann and Mich exchanged a lingering gaze, an unspoken understanding passing between them.

“Let’s take one last photo. I’ll post it.” Mich said as she extends her hand for a selfie. Ann hugged her and they took a couple of shots.

"Take care." Ann said almost a whisper.

In response, Mich smiled softly, her eyes reflecting a blend of emotions.

Ann leaned in, placing a gentle kiss beside Mich's lips, a silent expression of affection. With a heartfelt hug, they embraced one last time, each holding onto the moment.

"I'll miss you."

"I'll miss you too. Have a safe flight."

Reluctantly, Ann walked towards the door. However, as she lingered there for a couple of seconds, it became evident she was struggling to absorb the reality of their parting.

Mich stare at Ann back facing her. "Hey, pose for me." She exclaimed cheerfully.

Ann smiled and posed for her. Mich took a photo and gave the latter a reassuring smile. “See you soon.” Her way of telling Ann that every thing will be alright.

“Yes, see you!” Ann said in return before completely leaving.

The air hung with a mix of bittersweet sentiments, the weight of goodbyes settling in the room.

Ann left the hotel, ready to embark on her journey back home.

As the car glided down the highway, the driver's mistake became evident when he missed the exit. In a puzzling move, he decided to reverse on the busy road, resulting in a minor collision. Ann's heart raced as the car jolted, her surroundings blurred with the shock of the unexpected impact.

In the midst of the chaos, Ann reached for her phone, dialing Mich's number instinctively.

Not fully comprehending why Mich became her immediate point of contact. It was an unconscious choice, driven by an unexplainable need for Mich's presence in that unsettling moment.

“Mich, we just got into an accident,” she uttered, her voice shaky.

Mich, known for her unwavering composure, was caught off guard. "What? Are you okay? Where are you?" Panic laced Mich's words, a stark contrast to her usual calm demeanor.

"I'm fine, just shaken. They are figuring out what to do now." Ann reassured, surprised at Mich's uncharacteristic worry.

“Tell me if you need me or anything. Don’t hang up please.”

“Hmm, stay on the line.” Ann doesn’t have a plan to end the call anyway.

Moments later. The situation was resolved, Ann sighed in relief, “We’re back on track, heading to the airport now.” She could feel the tension in Mich’s voice through the phone.

“Are you sure?” Mich was still anxious.

With a reassuring smile, Ann responded, “Hey, calm down. We’re okay now. I need you calm. So that I could tell you how it happened.” Ann proceed to recount the incident, guiding Mich through the details and assuring her they were on their way to the airport, ready to leave the unexpected challenge behind.

“That’s not cool bro.” Mich said as if the driver can hear her. "I should have driven."

Ann chuckled softly at Mich's remark. "Yeah, definitely not cool," she replied, grateful for the levity that Mich injected into the situation. "But you being here, even on the phone, made it so much better. Thank you."

There was a brief pause, and then Mich's voice softened. "I was really worried. I'm just glad you're okay. Everyone’s okay.”

Ann could feel the sincerity in Mich's words, and it warmed her heart. “Yes, I am too."

Mich let out a relieved sigh. "I guess I can relax now."

Ann smiled, even though Mich couldn't see it. "We're almost at the airport. The worst is behind us. Thanks for being my rock through this unexpected ride."

Mich chuckled lightly, the tension easing. "Anytime. But next time, I'm definitely driving."

Ann laughed, "Deal. You need to fetch me and the send me back to the airport when I go to Philippines.”

“Of course. I’ll be your service the whole time.” Mich keeps on smiling.

“Alright. Message me when you reach the boarding later. I need to know if you made it to the airport in one piece!” Ann exclaimed.

Mich laughed, “Yes, madam.“

“I’ll message you once we land. Byeee”

“Okay, bye bye.”
