Detrimental

Description

Mir's excessive lateness to practice and unexplained aches prompts curiosity as well as worry from the MBLAQ members. It isn't long before they learn the awful truth about Mir's boyfriend and Joon is forced to confront his sentiments for Mir as the lines of friendship and love begin to blur.

Foreword

Rated for language, violence, adult themes, abusive nature and ual situations. This is a story (boyxboy relationship).
*The foreword is NOT where my story starts from. It is an excerpt from my story so when you read this first chapter do keep in mind that the story isn't starting from the point where the foreword ends.

“Alright guys, that’s a wrap!”

The quintet heaved a collective sigh of relief upon hearing such delightful words. Their practice managed to run well into the wee hours of the morning, something that seemed to be happening more frequently as of late. This alone wasn’t enough to put a damper on MBLAQ, but the fact that in four hours they were expected to start the next day’s schedule, which was unsurprisingly booked full.

Ah, the life of a celebrity. Joon thought bitterly, waving casually to GO whom was departing.

With the back of his arm Joon proceeded to wipe the sweat from his forehead, snatching up a nearby water bottle. He wasted no time in throwing his head back and chugging the entire bottle down, his eyes silently surveying the room. Unsurprisingly they fell upon Mir, whom was standing in the far corner with a slightly taller gentleman. Instinctively Joon’s eyes narrowed as he watched the duo. Kyo, that was his name wasn’t it? Joon had never been fond of Mir dating in the first place, though due mostly to his own yet-to-be-admitted-feelings for the maknae.

Complicated emotions aside, Kyo just never sat right with Joon. In Joon’s opinion the man was a pompous and far too sure of himself. Mir had met the older male in the midst of a party celebrating MBLAQ’s success, and apparently they’d hit things off well. Joon couldn’t help but wonder if Mir had actually hit his head well instead. Kyo’s self praising mannerisms and oversized ego gave Joon a headache just to think about. Narrow eyes slid to near slits as Joon watched Mir’s head bow low, mouthing what looked like an apology.

What the hell is he apologizing for? Kyo, you bastard... Joon thought darkly.

Without realizing he was doing so, Joon had completely crushed his water bottle. With a shrug he crumpled the bottle up and tossed it in the trashcan, trying his best to ignore Mir and his boyfriend. To his relief, Seungho appeared in front of him to discuss tomorrows schedule one final time before heading home. It was probably the hundredth time Seungho had sputtered out the following day’s activity list, as if he himself would forget something if not voiced aloud.

Unfortunately Seungho’s presence didn’t provide the distraction anticipated as Joon still found his eyes drifting to the maknae’s direction. There were a lot of things he didn’t like about Kyo, but if forced to he could tolerate all of the man’s annoying habits. All but one. Joon hated- no, loathed, the way Kyo changed Mir. When the duo was together Mir became short for words, almost silent, very unlike his usual wild self. Mir could be found staring at the ground, a look of sadness or guilt forever etched into his beautiful features.

Wait, did I just think of Mir as beautiful? Joon questioned himself.

A soft sigh escaped his lips and he decided to just accept the fact for what it was. Mir was beautiful in his own right, anyone could see that! Even though Joon saw the younger male in a light he was sure no one else could. A small smile spread his lips before a cough brought him back to the conversation at hand. Seungho raised an eyebrow and crossed his arms over his chest, giving Joon an expectant gaze.

“Omo, sorry Seungho. I’ve just got a lot on my mind” Joon apologized.

Seungho glanced over to Mir and Kyo before he let out a deep sigh, running his hand through spiky tresses. Joon patted his friend on the shoulder and delivered his signature captivating smile.

“Don’t worry, Hyung. I promise I won’t forget any of tomorrow’s schedule. Now go home and rest” Joon spoke.

Surprisingly the leader simply nodded and took his leave, not bothering to argue with Joon. His eyes flickered once more to Mir, whom coincedentally had just looked up in his direction. Mir smiled, a slight subtle smile but a smile none the less. Apparently the action hadn’t gone unnoticed by Kyo who promptly turned his head to peer at Joon. With a snort he put his hand on Mir’s shoulder and tugged him away from the room. Joon couldn’t help but smirk in spite of himself. Could it be that Kyo was jealous of him?

Of course he’s jealous pabo, look at yourself! Joon silently praised.

He chuckled at his own foolish behavior before heading towards the shower room. After hours of practice he was indeed quite sweaty and he doubted that there would be any hot water left in the dorm, three other members having already rushed home. He peeled is clothes away with a strained grunt and stepped into one of the stalls. Searing water, almost a tad too hot, beat against his flesh and soothed his aching muscles. A soft sigh left his lips as he leaned forward and rested his forehead against the wall. Sooner or later he was going to have to just get along with this Kyo fellow. For whatever reason Mir seemed to really like the man, if his frequent absence was any proof to such a notion. These days it seemed Joon saw less and less of the man who made his heart race inexplicably fast. Another sigh.

Maybe it would ease my mind to know Kyo isn’t a bad guy. To see it for myself. Joon decided.

From the outside looking in, at least in the beginning, things seemed to be going very well for Mir. The maknae was, if possible, even more cheery and energetic than usual. As opposed to the relationship as Joon had been, he had no reason to support his ill-feeling. Recently however Mir wasn’t smiling as much. The little bit of time he spent with MBLAQ he appeared worn and tried his hardest to be bubbly, but it just wasn’t the same. Joon couldn’t count the number of times he and the other members had picked their collapsed maknae off of the practice room floor, Mir insisting he was just tired and everything would be fine.

Joon placed his palms flat against the shower wall, slowly closing them into clenched fists. Mir’s behavior was strange to say the least but there wasn’t much Joon could do to intervene. Perhaps everything truly was fine and the stresses of trying to keep up with a celebrity schedule and balance a social life was just taking a toll on Mir. Shaking his head clear of the maknae Joon focused his thoughts instead on their upcoming tour and how much preparation laid ahead. Eventually a shudder broke him from his thoughts and he realized the shower water had gone cold.

I didn’t mean to stay here so long. Now I will definitely not sleep before our schedule starts. Pabo. Joon scolded himself as he toweled off and dressed before exiting the room.

Once in the hallway the sound of talking could be heard ringing through the building. His ears perked, deciding it was definitely shouting and not talking. He sighed and stuffed his hands into his pockets. Judging by the darkness of the studio, almost everyone had gone home already. Most likely it was one of the managers or producers fighting with their spouse whom was upset because of another late night. Joon was certainly not about to get into another one of those arguments, once had been enough. To his dismay there was light shining under a door near the exit.

Of course I’m going to have to walk right past like I don’t hear anything. Joon thought, rolling his eyes.

He fully intended to do just that but stopped dead in his tracks when he heard a loud clunk. He frowned and stared at the closed door, contemplating what to do. This wasn’t the first time he had heard someone being assaulted by their partner, and it surely wouldn’t be the last, but this was different. Sure he had heard the occasional meaty fist against an unsuspecting cheek or the snapping of an arm twisted further from it’s socket than ever meant to be. However this particular sound was more like someone being thrown around.

Joon, it’s none of your business. Don’t be a hero. Joon’s subconscious nagged, begging him to walk away from the door.

He heard shuffling and a muffled voice belonging to a man. Joon would almost swear to having heard the voice before, but it was so low he couldn’t place it. He could hear the beginnings of a beating, drowning out low sobs from the victim. Surely he should do something about this or call someone! Before Joon could decide what course of action to take a sharp gasp pierced the air followed by a wince inducing thud. Joon frowned deeply and flung the door open without another moment of hesitation, growling in slight annoyance.

Silence greeted him, broken only by his own surprised gasp as he took in the scene before him. Kyo stood in a disheveled manner still posed in a punching action, glaring at  Joon for his intrusiveness. On the floor across the room was Mir curled over in pain, trembling fingers wiping blood from his busted lip. Joon shook his head in disbelief, his heart plummeting to an all time low as a feeling of rage unlike any he had ever known shook through his body.

He’s been beating Mir. Joon realized.

Chapter 10: Hi! I read this story a while ago, but I didn’t get the chance to leave you a comment – I’m sorry! I just wanted to tell you that I absolutely loved every word you wrote, and every letter. It simply has the perfect mix of being ‘so incredibly realistic’ and ‘very much unlikely to happen’. Thank you so much for taking us all along on this journey, it was really, really good (: I gave you a vote, because you more than deserve it, and I subscribed, because I wish it was longer (I guess I can never really have enough JooMi ^^)

This whole story put me through a roller coaster of emotions, one minute I'm happy and then the next I feel worried or sad and then I'm mad and then happy again! It kept it interesting for me and I really like that about your writing!!
As for the last chapter I really liked it. I think it was funny that Seungho had to call Joons mother only to be told that he won't change Joons mind. I'm glad that it ended happily because there was a lot of bad stuff going on in previous chapters that made me question if this could end well. Luckily it did and with everyone learning about their relationship. Thanks for writing!
