Beyond The Harbour

I have travelled far, across the seas

Searching for, a home to me.

A person born from land and sea,

A question of love and loyalty.

A brand new world to explore,

Destiny waits outside my door~

Chanyeol hears the melody and the soft lyrics ghosting along in the night breeze, compelling him forward towards the edge of the docks. He stares out into the marina expecting to see a boat bobbing on the water's surface, to explain his curiosity of where the words were coming from. But like he had witnessed three times before there was nothing but open water.

"Where are you?" he calls out into the open, his masculine voice echoing from the boats and sails. Chanyeol could tell that the voice belonged to a male who must have trained rather hard in order to achieve the high pitch keys the music major could indicate. He noticed that the ocean looked a little quieter than it usually does on the night of a full moon but didn't think much of it, until the fact of the now silent air washed over his elf-like ears. "I didn't mean to frighten you I just wanted to see you sing... you have an incredible voice."

Chanyeol waited for a sign, for more of the beautiful song, for something that would lead him closer to finding it.

But nothing came, just the dead silence that was harsh against the night's air.

A breath left the photographer's lungs, his heavy head clouding over in a sudden wave of tiredness, in an attempt to avoid the feeling Chanyeol shook his head and turned back to begin his journey back home now that Heechul would be looking out for him with his friends.

However half-way home Chanyeol suddenly had a change of heart, his legs leading him to the top of Mountain peak, the highest point on the entire island. He had heard the rumours, the stories connecting to this particular part of the island but the landscape was basically begging to be pictured by him. Yet the locals (his neighbours and friends) had often warned him of the sharp pointed rocks along the edge, but he had been there long enough to know the peak and all of the mountain's secrets.

Standing on top of the grassy hillside Chanyeol took in the view before him, a long stretch of ocean reaching across in all directions, meeting the beautiful black sky clustered with twinkling stars above him. The horizon was something that enchanted Chanyeol ever since he was young, he liked the way in which the sky would deify the laws of the universe in order to share an intimate moment with the only other blue thing on earth. He knew that it was stupid, maturity made those childish ideas seem so foreign, but he couldn't help but feel like it was an innocent thought from his childhood that would always stay with him no matter where he was in the world.

"Water is a precious thing to humans" his father would always tell him whenever they went out onto the reefs in their boat. "It's something that was gifted to us from the gods as was our life here on Earth, no matter what happens to us we can always turn to the water for help, whether for healing or drinking, the water always has answers Chanyeol."

Hearing his dead father's words speak so clearly and profoundly in his mind probably would terrify most people, but to Chanyeol the words were a reassurance that even though his dad was gone, he was still there watching over him and giving him advice when in times of need. It happened a little more often to call it simple coincidence but Chanyeol valued the memories he was able to remember, since he didn't have a lot of them.

"Oh, I didn't know that anyone would be up here tonight." A sudden voice drew Chanyeol out of his thoughts and away from the sky and ocean. The boy in which he had yet to introduce himself to, smiled apologetically and began his retreat down the slant of the hill so that he could leave the latter to his thoughts once more.

"No, it's okay I was just watching the horizon, you're welcome to join me if you'd like." he offered, using his best smile that his mother insisted that he could win awards for. The boy seemed taken-aback by the invitation but in the end decided to take Chanyeol up on his offer.

"I would like that very much, I wanted to watch the sunrise." The boy blushed, glancing down at the slightly damp grass beneath his feet. Chanyeol tilted his head to the side, his eyes glancing down at the watch he never went anywhere without.

"Seems like you still have time to burn."

"Oh that won't bother me," the boy whispered, shaking his head while taking a quick glance towards the moon shining brightly not yet ready to settle directly above them. "did you know that magical things happen on the nights of the full moons?"

"I didn't" Chanyeol admitted with a slight shake of his head. He stared at the boy cautiously stepping towards him, noticing something oddly strange about him even though he wasn't quite sure what. "Don't take this the wrong way," Chanyeol chuckled standing still until the boy was close enough to hear him over the breeze. "but I don't think I've seen you around the island before, are you just passing through or staying a little while?"

"That is still in the process of being decided," The boy smiled apologetically, his hands fumbling together just below his stomach. "I'm only here to visit a friend that I haven't seen in a long time."

"Well maybe I could help you in your search, this island is small enough for almost everyone to know each other." Chanyeol stated, leading the way towards the only large boulder present on the top of the peak. The student found the positioning peculiar considering the stone couldn't have just been there. The thought always entered his mind whenever he was on top of the mountain, as he grew he also learned how to appreciate the small things in the world.

"It doesn't matter how the stone got there Chanyeol, the only thing that matters is how can you use that to your advantage" his father's words whispered into his ear, sending a slight shiver down the boy's back as the wind blew harsher.

"Do you mind?" the boy mumbled, leaning closer after having wrapped his arms around his chest in an foolish attempt to warm himself up from the cold. At first Chanyeol raised a brow in question, not understanding what the boy had asked but when he noticed him creeping closer for his body heat, Chanyeol couldn't help but shake his head.

"Not at all." he smiled, opening his arms. The boy grinned and cuddled up into the taller's arms, sighing contently as he slowly began to warm up. Chanyeol surprisingly didn't feel any different even though he had just became somewhat imitate with a stranger he had never met before, the feeling that washed over him was as if he was hugging Sehun or Jongin.

Like he was hugging someone he had spent his life knowing.

Someone familiar...

Chapter 20: Finally got caught up! This was such a good chapter and my favorite scene was Chanyeol’s conversation with Joonwoo. I was surprise that he agreed to let Baekhyun go along on the quest, even more that he could clearly see the bond that the two boys have quickly formed. Can’t wait to see what happens next.

Chapter 18: Chanyeol is like 'been there, done that' and it's hilariousss
I also like that this gives him insight and understanding to the gods' actions, and it's used as such instead of as just a way to make more plot
It's interesting and a refreshing take!

Chapter 11: I am absolutely loving this story so far, I can’t wait to see what happens next. I’m guessing the second creature Chanyeol killed was the Kraken? It’s interesting that he faints each time he comes in contact with non-humans. Thank you for all your updates.

Chapter 3: Hello, I am really enjoying this story so far. Your writing is almost lyrical, and I am enjoying all the descriptive touches on the island and it’s inhabitants. I can’t wait to read more about Chanyeol, he is a super complex character.
