Winter’s.

 

“Hala, Yeji where are you?” I felt my heart shiver from fear. First day ko today at uni, well, first day namin ng best friend ko na si Yeji. It was supposed to be another milestone para sa aming dalawa, pero the problem is, where the hell is she?

 

Sumiksik ako sa crowd ng froshies din na tulad namin ni Yeji. Sobrang daming tao, hindi ko na alam paano ko siya makikita rito. I told her naman kasi kanina na sabay nalang kami, pero she insisted na mauna na raw ako. Ayan tuloy, naghahanapan pa kami.

 

I brought my phone out and carefully dialed her number. 

 

W: Yeji, where are you??? Kanina pa kita hinahanap!

 

Y: Andito ako sa harap ng main gate! I told you naman kanina na here tayo magkikita, diba? 

 

W: You didn’t mention it to me. 

 

Y: Ay, hindi ba? Hehe. Punta ka na dito, hintayin kita. Hurry up!

 

I sighed as I sped walk my way through the crowd na puno ng excited people, scared ones, bored ones, and-

 

“Aray!”, napaupo ako sa sahig nang may makabunggo ako na isa pang froshie. Ganda talaga ng first day ko, grabe. “Why aren’t you looking at where you’re going kas-”, oh my god. 

 

Ang ganda. Napahinto ako sa sinasabi ko as I admired her soft features and there, bumagal ang paligid. It seemed na all I could see was her. Lord, ito na ba ‘yon? Sawa ka na ba sa kakasabi ko ng ‘Lord when’ kaya binigay mo na siya? Lord, bigyan mo ako ng sign. 

 

“Aray ko naman!”, napangiwi ako bigla ng may bumatok sa akin ng malakas mula sa likod ko. “Oh my god, ginulo ka ba nitong bunot na ‘to? Pasensya na, medyo may tama rin kasi sa utak ‘tong kaibigan ko.”, narinig ko si Yeji na kinausap yung bebe k- yung nakabunggo ko kanina. 

 

“Ah hindi, it’s fine. Ako rin naman may fault kanina. I wasn’t looking din sa dinadaanan ko.”, she chuckled lightly. Oh my god.

 

“Winter.. Isara mo bibig mo, mukha kang ewan.”, bulong sakin ni Yeji na ikinagulat ko. I seriously had my mouth hanging open?? Oh my god, Winter Kim. I felt my cheeks and ears go red as I buried my face sa palm ng hands ko. Lupa, lamunin mo na ako. Ayoko na mabuhay, Lord uuwi na po ako dyan sa heaven. Huhu.

 

I heard a light giggle from the girl in front of me. “It’s okay. Yizhuo Ning.”, she extended her hand in front of me and with my shaky hands and red face, I slowly took her hand in mine. It was soft, it was smooth. I could hold it forever. “W-Winter Kim.”

 

“Yeji Hwang.”, my best friend introduced herself too.

 

“So, anong course mo?”, Yeji asked Yizhuo. “BS Medical Technology. Kayo ba?”

 

“BS Medical Biology kaming dalawa ni Winter.”

 

“Nice! Pareho pala tayong tatlo na med field.”, Yizhuo said excitedly as her eyes sparkled.

 

Cute. 

 

“Thank you.”, she shyly said to me. Wait, to me?!?! Gagi, sinabi ko ba ‘yon ng malakas????

 

“Um, oo?”

 

HALA, NABABASA NIYA BA INIISIP KO???

 

“Win, you’re talking..”, bulong ulit sa akin ni Yeji. Oh my god, kahihiyan nanaman, Winter Kim! HUHU, AYOKO NA TALAGA LORD. NAIIYAK NA AKO DITO OH.

 

“A-ah Yeji! Diba may pupuntahan pa pala tayo na urgent?? Tara na!!”, dali-dali kong inaya si Yeji. “Ha? Wala naman ah-”

 

“MERON!!”, Yeji please pick up my signal, naiiyak na best friend mo dito oh, huhu.

 

“A-ah! Oo nga pala! Muntik ko na m-malimutan! Tara na nga!”, tumingin muli kami kay Yizhuo para magpaalam. “Ah sige Yizhuo, mauuna na kami h-ha! It was nice meeting you!”

 

Dali-dali kong hinila si Yeji paalis ngunit napahinto ako sa paglalakad ng may humawak sa wrist ko. “W-wait lang. Winter, can I have your number?”, she shyly asked me while looking at the ground with her hand still holding my wrist. I felt blood explode through my cheeks again. First day palang, whipped na ako. Bakit ganito? Huhu. 

 

I gave her my number before properly na nagpaalam bago umalis. 

 

“Grabe the whole day no’n, a smile never left my face talaga. Iba nga naman tama ng first love sa atin, no? It feels magical, enchanting, and hypnotizing even. It’s the best feeling in the world, when you have your first love, parang lumiwanag ang buong mundo mo. It gives us a different kind of ecstasy. Pero, kung sino man nakikinig ngayon- anak ko sana in the future haha! I want you to remember this, once you have your first love, savor that feeling! So ayon, that would be all for FTL Tape #1.
