Happiness

---------------

Yujin sighed for the nth time as she put her phone down when she saw that there was still no reply to her last message, 157th one to be exact.

She looked around the unusually crowded cafe that usually has 5 or more tables open. It wasn't always like that though, it used to be very busy just like now until the new Starbucks opened up a block away.

The cafe is located right in across from the gates of NOZ University.

Yujin had frequent the place, and the cafe even more so lately hoping to catch a glimpse of somebody. But for the past two months, with 157 messages or 158 as she's planning to type another one now, she hasn't been very lucky.

'I just want to talk, Chae. I just want to know why.'

She hesitated before pressing the send button just like always, but she always ends up sending them anyway, she's basically just hovering over the button a few second now for formality.

"Hi, uhm are you with someone?" She heard a voice asked and saw a short girl wearing the campus shirt of the university in front of the cafe.

"No, can I help you?" Yujin asked, quite shocked with forwardness of the question.

"Can I take this seat?." The girl answered timidly. “Usually, the café is not this crowded.” The girl said, giving Yujin a hopeful smile.

Yujin hesitated, but the girl just apparently wanted to share the table and not what actually came to her mind. So it shouldn't be a problem with her too.

"Uhm, okay sorry never mind." She heard the girl said before she started walking away, which somehow startled Yujin.

"What?! No! Wait, you can share this with me, of course.” She immediately said, not realizing that she had reached for the hand of the girl until she felt the warmth it was emitting.

"Uhm, thanks then!" The girl said cheerfully before occupying the chair in front of Yujin and placing her cup of coffee in front of her, as well as removing her hand from Yujin's in the process.

"I'm Minju, by the way.” The girl introduced herself while extending out a hand.

"Yujin.” Yujin answered shortly while grabbing the extended hand for a handshake.

The girl only responded with a smile before she got her things out and started studying.

Yujin tried her best to be subtle but she couldn't help sneaking glances to the smaller girl in front of her.

Her phone suddenly vibrated making the girl look up without giving Yujin enough time to take her eyes off of her.

"Uhm, sorry.” Yujin said as she grabbed her phone from the table and fumbled with the keys to check the message.

She heard a giggle making her look at the girl again but Minju already had her head down again, working on her papers.

Yujin grumbled lowly for being caught before checking the message she received, only to be disappointed that it's just one of her friends reminding her to be there for their every Friday night outs that she hasn't been a part of for almost two months now, for obvious reasons.

"You okay there?” She heard the voice of the person in front of her ask.

"Uh, yeah." Yujin answered with a forced smile.

"Fake.” Minju said teasingly.

"Excuse me?” Yujin was a bit offended, but she couldn't blame the girl, she was never one for an actress.

"Your smile is too fake." Minju answered before taking a sip from her cup. "But that's good, you should always choose to be happy, Yujin. It’d be such a shame if someone as pretty as you will just keep on frowning." Minju continued with a smile of her own.

Yujin looked away to hide her blush from the sudden compliment.

"But what if you really can’t?"Yujin asked, shocking even herself for entertaining this.

Maybe the fact that Minju is a stranger and their meeting is purely accidental gave her the confidence that no matter how much this girl judges her, it won't really affect her in anyway.

"It depends on the person, actually. Many times we can, we just choose not to do it and we always choose what we think is the easier way." Minju answered confidently.

It had Yujin thinking. Is it really easier to wait for Chaewon than to let go and move on?

"What exactly are you waiting for, closure?" The question shocked Yujin, Minju continued before she could even answer. "What do you really want to happen? If you find out their reason, will you change yourself in hopes that they will come back to you?" That definitely shut Yujin up, and she ended up looking at the familiar view in front of the café.

What exactly is her plan if ever she gets to talk to Chaewon again? Is she chasing for her to come back to her, or she's just here for confirmation to satisfy her ego that the problem is not her?

"You're not exactly sure why you're waiting here almost everyday, are you?"Minju asked, almost giving Yujin a whiplash with how fast her head turned to Minju. "I'm not a stalker, calm down, but I've been spending my after school hours in this café ever since I can remember. So whenever they get a regular, it's hard not to notice you guys. I just never had a reason to approach you until today." Minju finished her statement with a shrug.

"What's your deal? Too bored with your own life so you meddle with others?" Yujin asked, the girl in front of her suddenly not so cute.

She'd be lying to say that she didn't expect her to feel offended, so it was a shock to see Minju just smiling at her before shrugging.

"You're right with being bored, but I never meddled. I've only just voiced out my opinion, how your mind and heart react to it, is out of my control, Yujin-ssi." The girl answered teasingly.

"Tss, I didn't ask for it." Yujin answered with a glare, before shifting her sight to the front of the cafe again and almost spilling the coffee she's holding when she saw the person she's been waiting for.

Chaewon was getting off a black car as a guy who seems to be around their age held the door for her. Yujin watched as Chaewon hugged and kissed the guy goodbye before he got inside his car and drove away.

"So, was that him?" Minju asked, making Yujin look at her with a smirk.

"That was her."Yujin answered waiting for Minju to show some sort of disgust, but the girl just wouldn't cease to surprise her.

"So, are you the college experiment or the guy?" Minju asked nonchalantly making Yujin chuckle.

"Guess I am, I've been the only girlfriend ever.” Yujin answered honestly.

"With all the times you spent waiting for her here, you look so convincingly fine." Minju said with a raised eyebrow.

Yujin thought to herself, is she really fine? She doesn't feel like crying, though admittedly, it hurts that Chaewon couldn't even find the decency to tell Yujin her reasons for suddenly walking out of their two years relationship, but somehow she's not as hurt anymore.

"I'm not fine, but I don't feel as bad anymore. Probably what she wants is something I can't give, but I don't see that as my fault. She knew what I can and cannot offer her when we started. So, for her to look for something else that I cannot give her, I wouldn't beat myself up for it." Yujin explained, although it hurts her, it's a pain she can cope with.

"Always choose to be happy." Minju said, before going back to what she was doing.

"Do you?" Yujin asked Minju, making the girl look up again.

"Hmm." Minju only nodded then went back to what she was doing.

"So why are you bored?"

"I'm happily bored." Minju answered without looking up.

"How?” Yujin asked laughing.

"Because I chose to be happy with myself, I don't want to defend my happiness on anybody. I can’t fathom the idea thay there's someone in your life that can so easily take away your happiness, it's not the kind of power I would ever give anybody." Minju looked at Yujin, who was grinning at her. "What?"

"So, no boyfriend since birth?” Yujin asked.

"Is this base on my answer? Seriously?” Minju laughed at the look of confusion in Yujin's face. "I just never let anyone lead my way of happiness, doesn't mean I've never been with anyone. Though, yes I've only ever had two boyfriends in my 21 years in this place, but I think that's enough for now till I decide on who the right person is."

"You don't decide that Minju, it just happens.” Yujin answered, frowning at the thought of choosing someone and just saying they're the right one.

"So who does then?"

"Fate.” Yujin answered shrugging.

Minju had the audacity to chuckle. "If we're talking about that fate from fairy tales and what not, will you seriously let something you don't exactly know the origin of to choose this one for you?" Minju challenged.

"I chose to be with Chaewon, look where that brought me." Yujin challenged back.

"You didn't choose Chaewon to be that person, Yujin. You just so happened to meet her, then fell for her.” Minju answered in a matter of fact kind of way.

"How is that different from letting fate do the work for you then?” Yujin asked confused.

"You watched her hug and kiss another guy and managed to not shed a single tear. Once you choose the person to give your happiness to, you'd fight for them.” Minju said as if already prepared for the question.

Yujin stared at her in amazement.

"You fight for your happiness no matter the cost because that's how you can prove that you've chosen it, always. You don't just let some guy in a fancy car take it away because he has what you don't. Once you've truly chosen happiness you'll never let go of it." Minju finished her statement confidently while Yujin continued to just stare at her in amazement.

Yujin contemplated her next words, you can call her reckless but Minju said to always choose her happiness. Right now might not be the time just yet but it's a start for her to identify and figure it out.

"Say," Yujin started, getting Minju's attention. "How long do you plan on being bored on your own?" She finished her sentence before taking a sip of her coffee, trying to be nonchalant.

Minju stared at Yujin, for once since they started talking, she was the one in shock, but she merely cleared before answering.

"Well I don't personally know you, so I don't know how long it'll take you to move on from this." Minju answered with a shrug before going back to what she really came here for.

Yujin stared at Minju still in awe, before shaking her head with a smile etched on her face and continued on just watching the girl but this time without any plan to be subtle about it.
