A/n: Hi all, something new. Something I’m very excited to share and glad to finally get started. It’s actually been a thought in my head for a very long time so it’s nice to finally get this posted, and it’s going to hopefully be a lot of fun for those of you who do read this. So please enjoy it if you can, reviews are of course appreciated, and here’s chapter 1

“Add the finely diced shallots and chanterelle mushrooms to your soup, which should now be silky and smooth.” A brunette reads her recipe notes that she had religiously copied down from one of her favorite chefs. Joohyun frowns in concern as the texture of her soup didn’t look all that silky or smooth. Should she taste it? It didn’t look all too appealing, what with it’s rough texture, and ingredients that probably needed to cook down for a hell of a lot more hours. But this was an emergency and she might be in need of a professional.

“Ah! I know what to do!” Joohyun nods eagerly. She knew just what to do in a dire situation like this. There was only one thing she could do.

“Three, two, one...” She mentally counted down in her mind before exhaling deeply.

“Seulgi!!” The shout for her girlfriend was so loud that it probably could have woken the dead. Which isn’t saying much since Joohyun knows her girlfriend often sleeps as if she’s in a coma. Joohyun moves out of the kitchen and pokes her head down the hall only to scream for Seulgi again.

“Kang Seulgi!”

It dawns on Joohyun that maybe Seulgi might not be sleeping. She could have her AirPods in. It’s all over if Seulgi has her AirPods in, since she can’t hear her screaming anyways.

“Aww…” She pouted and took a look at her soup. “I’ll have to go get her.” As there was no way in hell Joohyun was tasting that first. She’d have to make the journey to their bedroom.

The “journey” to the bedroom was not truly much of a journey at all. Joohyun had to go down the hall from the kitchen, turn left, and go up the stairs. But when you’ve been in the kitchen for hours trying to cook there’s a chance everything can feel as if it’s a journey. Besides, in Joohyun’s defense it’s not like the very first door is their bedroom or anything, oh no. You have to walk by at least three different doors, one that includes a bathroom before finally making it to their bedroom. She is expecting Seulgi to be on the other side of this door.

“Seulgi, if you’re not listening to music or asleep I’ll…” Joohyun stops talking when she opens the door. Because the room is completely and totally empty. Well, she wasn’t expecting that. No girlfriend laid out on her back with headphones and asleep? That was strange indeed.

“Seul?”

Seulgi couldn’t be hanging out with friends and she forgot about it, did she? That might be a possibility. Though Joohyun very much prides herself on the fact she pays attention to all things Seulgi shares with her about her plans for her day. Even if it’s something that most people would find insignificant like their lunch order. That told Joohyun one thing. Seulgi must be somewhere in the house.

“Oh, I know!”

Joohyun knows exactly where her girlfriend is. It’s Friday evening and if Seulgi is not already in bed waiting for her, there’s one other logical place her other half could be. Joohyun hurries out of their bedroom and downstairs again. There’s a spare room that had been turned into a home studio of sorts. Her girlfriend had always been passionate about music and can usually be found composing music, writing lyrics, or playing guitar. Joohyun also knows Seulgi just likes to go there to relax too, why she didn’t think of it sooner. Joohyun has no idea, but rather than just burst through the door. Joohyun slowly enters and it’s the soft playing of music that she hears first.

She smiles to herself and sees the back of her girlfriend’s head. She doesn’t even have to see Seulgi’s face to know she must be staring hard at that sheet music, eyebrows furrowed in thought. Joohyun tiptoes over to her before throwing her arms around the broad shoulders of the dark-haired woman sitting down.

“Hey, love of my life.” Joohyun grins and kisses one of Seulgi’s round ears. God, she loves this woman so much.

“Hyunnie,” Seulgi turns around so fast with a warm smile on her face, like she hadn’t seen Joohyun all day, before grabbing her girlfriend into her arms and placing her into her lap. This was essentially what Joohyun had been hoping for. The best place to be was in Seulgi’s arms anyways. Bonus points that she could now sit on Seulgi’s lap and face her. “Was the music bothering you?”

Of course her girlfriend is the sweetest and most considerate person she knows. Seulgi would naturally ask such a question. Joohyun shakes her head and grabs a hold of her cute cheeks before planting a kiss to Seulgi’s lips.

“Your music never bothers me. I was looking for you anyways, baby.”

“Oh?” Seulgi smiles. It was certainly nice of Joohyun to come down here to see her. Sometimes, she can get carried away when she’s in the home studio, and because of that it can get very easy to lose track of time. However, Seulgi could see that familiar sort of glint in those big chocolate brown eyes of her girlfriend. Something must also be up.

“Uh-oh…”

“What was that for?” The brunette laughs as she throws her arms around Seulgi tighter. “You look suddenly nervous, sweetie?”

Seulgi’s smile turns into more of a frown. She has personally been with her girlfriend Bae Joohyun for a very long time. You don’t date a person for six years and not know them very well.

“Okay, what do you want me to do?”

“Why couldn’t I just come see you because I love you?”

“You could have.” Seulgi agrees. “But what do you want me to do?”

Joohyun laughs in that high-pitched way that suggests she’s nervous. Seulgi isn’t even upset with her, what for when Joohyun looks very cute right now, probably about to explain the situation. Besides, whatever it is Seulgi knows she’s going to do anyway.

“Oh nothing, baby. Just come with me. I need your expertise on something.”

“My expertise?” She chuckles, with monolid eyes turning into crescent shapes. “Should I be worried or…”

Joohyun chuckles too, which honestly only makes Seulgi feel more nervous. “What, no of course not! Come on, come with me!” She stands up and grabs onto one of Seulgi’s hands. Right away interlocking their fingers and taking off for their kitchen. Seulgi supposes her song will have to wait, but that was okay. The song would be waiting when she got back. Nothing was more important than Joohyun, and whatever Joohyun needed her alleged expert help with seemed to be very important. Seulgi followed behind her girlfriend toward the kitchen. All questions were soon enough revealed when Seulgi saw the pot of soup on the stove. Joohyun didn’t even have to tell her anything because she was already grabbing a tasting spoon.

“Um…” Seulgi looked worriedly into the pot.

“You don’t mind tasting it for me, right?”

“Um…” She peers down into the pot again. Why did it look so very unappealing? It wasn’t so much that it looked so rough in texture, though that didn’t help. The liquid itself didn’t look tasty either. “Why is it gray?”

“Gray!” Joohyun shouts and looks down into the pot, was the soup gray before? She didn’t recall it being a gray color, not to her knowledge. At least, it didn’t look gray before she left the kitchen. That’s okay, she could sell this. Joohyun could sell anything and make it sound good, even a foul-looking gray soup. “It’s not gray, it’s just the lighting in the kitchen.”

Seulgi would be the first to admit that she had bad eyesight. Even on a good day she had bad eyesight. She really needed glasses but that was a story for another time. Joohyun could say what she wanted, that was some gray looking soup in that pot.

“Uh-huh, the lighting in our kitchen is suddenly bad.”

“Yep, that’s right. So are you going to taste the soup for me, baby. Please…” Joohyun asks sweetly, and has the audacity to pout and everything. Knowing fully well what that pout does to her heart. Seulgi can’t believe she’s about to do this. This soup truly has to be one of the worst things she’s seen in quite a while.

“Expertise indeed..” Seulgi thinks with a frown before grabbing the spoon from her girlfriend’s hand and closing her eyes. Maybe it won’t taste as bad as it looks. The saying is you eat with your eyes, so if Seulgi can’t see it. Perhaps it’ll be okay. Joohyun does a bit of a cheer before tiptoeing toward Seulgi’s cheek and kissing her in thanks.

“You’re the best, thank you!” Is what Seulgi hears before she hurries up and tastes the soup. Joohyun waits patiently for a reaction. There’s nothing at first. Seulgi is just standing there with the spoon in and it’s the no reaction that’s driving Joohyun crazy.

“Well, does it need something? Maybe some salt, garlic, more mushrooms?”

Seulgi was honestly caught between deciding on if she should spit this soup out or swallow just to be nice. This is after all, her girlfriend, whom she loves very much. The same girlfriend who is looking at her rather impatiently too.

“Seulgi, what does it need?”

And while Seulgi stood there with that terrible tasting soup in . Debating on what to do, and somehow with her life also flashing before her eyes. There was no way she could possibly eat this soup, and then Joohyun tilted her head to the side in that curious way she did. Whether it was on purpose or not. Seu
