blue sea and vinyls

dear teacher

All of Chaewon's thoughts were about Minjoo. It was no longer an innocent desire to get to know her, to hear her childhood memories and her dreams for the future. It was more than wanting to be in her presence, more than enjoying her laugh and the ecstasy of seeing her smile. It was more than that, an irrational need that consumed Chaewon little by little, with no other way out than the one that made her heart and her lower abdomen vibrate.

But first things first, and for now, she could only be content with smelling her scent and brushing her arm against hers as they walked alongside across the university campus. The relatively refreshing air was blowing through their hair, and the flats' lights reflected marvellous shadows on the pavement. The teacher's car was parked about ten minutes away, and the campus' lockdown meant that they had to walk through a few blocks to reach the one where Minjoo lived.

They were talking again about everything and anything, getting closer and closer to their destination. Chaewon repressed her impulses deep inside, as she always did until the right moment arrived. Instead, she listened intently to Minjoo debriefing her criminal law exam and how she spent hours revising for the test to be easy.

Since the previous date, nothing had remarkably changed between them. There were no questions about a possible change in their relationship. But then again, there was no time limit, and if Chaewon had to wait decades to satisfy her wants and desires, she would've done so without hesitation, as long as Minjoo was by her side.

As expected, the flat was locked when they arrived. It was vacated, dark and silent despite the bay windows overlooking the building across the street, but the place greeted them warmly after those minutes of walking in the breeze.

"Sooo that's it," Minjoo introduced, taking care to lock the door behind them. "My place. With my roommate, of course. I'm thinking of getting a part-time job to finance a flat, though."

Once the lights were on, the place felt already less empty. Plaids were strewn across the sofa, and the coffee table was covered with binders and sheets of paper filled with messy notes. A guitar hung loosely on the edge of the television furniture, and there was a box of ramen and a few things on the kitchen counter. A sign that Yuri had left early this evening, as she had warned.

"Wanna drink something?" the brunette asked, adjusting the ventilation and the kitchen area lights.

"Water, please," Chaewon smiled, taking off her sneakers to place them next to Minjoo's. Still carrying her bag, she curiously examined the room, standing in the middle of it. Strangely enough, she had imagined the place to be like this. Simple but pleasant, like its inhabitant. The autographed poster of The Rose stole a smile from her, and she nodded. "Nice decor."

"There's not much..." commented Minjoo while filling two glasses. She brought it to her guest and pointed to the wall decorated entirely with vinyl records. "I made this with my roommate."

"Oh wow, that’s cool as !" Chaewon approached the narrow wooden shelf, which was full of vinyl and records of all kinds. A few Kpop albums were also there, and small plants filled the empty spaces. "I love those kinds of records."

"Yul collects them," Minjoo pulled out one that was visibly old and worn, seemingly a jazz band. "She used to work in a record shop, and the older ones, like this, come from flea markets or people's trash."

"'People's trash'," Chaewon repeated with a chuckle, taking another record in her hands. "Damn, 1978."

"This one is from a bar that closed a few years ago around my parents' place. It was a retro pub, and the owners sold many decorations before they left, so I picked up a couple for Yuri. My roommate." Minjoo seemed quite proud of their little vinyl collection, and her smile made Chaewon want to grab them all one by one just so the brunette could tell the anecdotes that went with them.

"Which one is the most vintage?" so Chaewon asked, and seeing a little sparkle in the brunette's eyes made her want to ask a thousand more.

"Vintage..." Her slender finger paused for a long moment on one of the sleeves, and Chaewon restrained herself from leering at it for too long. They had time. She would fantasize about it later. After a short moment, Minjoo pulled out an old rock band record. "The Beatles, Abbey Road, 1969."

Chaewon took the cover and observed it. It was indeed an aesthetic object, with age showing. "Iconic, if I speak."

After a few more minutes of studying the vinyl sleeves and trying out some of them on the player, the two young women finally made their way to the rooms. The fake wall was already on, separating the space into two parts, and Minjoo only glimpsed her roommate's side, solely for Chaewon to catch a look at the impressive collection of rock instruments and posters.

Already more comfortable, the teacher allowed herself to set her heavy bag in the corner and settle down on the bed while Minjoo closed the shutters and did some last-minute sorting. It was odd to be in her room after those times dating each other on the streets and texting. Somehow, though Chaewon wanted to take her time, being there, just the two of them, felt a little weird. But it was pleasant. Pleasantly weird.

Anyway, she just stared at the young woman moving around, taking advantage to let her eyes freely wander on her body, raising a brow every time her thoughts would go too crazy. Resisting was getting a little too complicated, so she diverted herself a little bit.

"Did you do that?" she asked, pointing to a pretty drawing hanging on the white wall thanks to beige tape, mixed with a modest collection of cards and posters representing revisited works of art.

"Yes. I started drawing a while ago." Minjoo continued to make some adjustments in the room, like gathering all her classes sheets in one corner of her desk or replacing the thick black binders in order on the shelf.

"It's, for real, really pretty." Chaewon was truthfully impressed. The brunette was definitely a prodigy at everything she intended to do, and her heart melted a little more at the thought. "You stopped?"

"I don’t have enough time," the young woman huffed, pointing to the many binders and constitution books that inhabited her desk.

"Imagine when you'll be a lawyer. You'll have all the time you want to draw or play music..." Chaewon had slumped slightly on the bed, elbows supporting her weary body. With her spread legs and tilted head, she was surprised at the intensity of the look Minjoo gave her at that moment.

And she was even more surprised when the brunette kissed her chastely out of nowhere, for no particular reason. As if this was now a banal thing as if their relationship was gradually changing.

Damn.

She barely had time to close her eyes, but the taste of Minjoo's lips on hers managed to make her whole body tremble, right down to the depths of her organs. Daaaamn. She rolled her tongue over her lips, savouring as much as she could the sensation of having kissed her crush. And Minjoo gave her a grin before turning back to her desk, hands sweaty, even though the teacher couldn't tell.

"Okay, Uhm, well, since I can't trust you, we'll watch the best drama here and now," she blurted out as she pulled her laptop out of the bag. Decidedly, the impromptu kiss she'd initiated made her just as much flustered.

"I knew it," Chaewon breathed, lips still pursed. "It was an ambush."

"You're not going to regret this," Minjoo scowled at her and finally sat down on the bed, drawing Chaewon towards her in the process. The latter took the opportunity to leave a kiss on her shoulder, and the smile it provoked was enough to drive the teacher crazy. "One episode, and if you don't like it, I'm taking us out to a restaurant."

"Deal?"

"Deal," Minjoo accepted the hand Chaewon held out to her and shook it with conviction.

She set the computer down at the end of the bed and settled herself more comfortably against Chaewon, who let herself do so with absolute pleasure, feeling butterflies flutter in her chest. The place where Minjoo's arm was sticking to her shoulder was burning, and if the episode of the drama hadn't started, she would have gone crazy by now.

Even though this wasn't the first time they'd been this close, the intimacy of this moment was quite flustering. Foremost, there wasn't that orchestra of conversation, traffic and transport surrounding them, and it was relatively dark, the light from the buildings replaced by the computer screen. There was something extraordinary about this kind of proximity, and it caused a sort of spark that grew in intensity, a pretty bold one.

Dozens of minutes passed, and Minjoo's head was now resting on Chaewon's shoulder, subtle fingers playing with the seam of the teacher's shirt. Innocently, perhaps, but they were inflaming the skin they brushed a little too often for it to be accidental. And when a finger slid along the leather belt, it was too obvious for it to be a coincidence. Hence, without hurrying, Chaewon let her fingers glide along with the arm that rested on her lower abdomen until she was gently brushing the brunette's waist. Oh, and it, YOLO, as we used to say.

She kissed her.

And the brunette kissed her back with twice the fervour.

Her fingers burned on Minjoo's waist, and the younger's hand moving behind her ear made her whole body tingle, from head to toe, literally. She her with even more intensity, levelling up a little more to savour the wet lips that didn't leave hers a single time. . Intoxicating was the word. Soon the thickness of fabric between her hand and the brunette's waist became too much, and she went underneath. As smoothly as instinctively, her right leg slipped between the student's, letting their bodies crash against each other.

She kissed her a little more, several times on the lower lip, then the upper, then both at the same time, she opened , and the college girl intensified the kiss with passion. It was wet and a bit messy at first. It took them a few seconds to find the perfect rhythm because the younger one tended to go slightly faster than most people would, and the teacher was thrilled to harmonise, letting her tongue waltz with hers.

Oh... So the student wasn't lying when she bragged about being a good kisser on late-night texts?

Chaewon's hand squeezed the warm waist a little tighter, so balmy that she began to explore a little more. Her belly was warm too, her ribs even more so. Her fingers brushed a bra, and she paused briefly, only to see a wet, rosy smile. Minjoo's nose gently bopped against hers with a nod.

The drama was playing on the laptop. There was nothing intimate about the music. On the contrary, it was rather comical. A couple of stuffed animals were on a corner of the bed, and several drawings signed by Minjeong were hanging on the wall above the headboard. Chaewon moved from her lips and kissed Minjoo's burning neck.

Her heart exploded with a thousand hefty, indescribable sensations as the other's heavy breathing echoed close to her ear. She savoured the neck that belonged to her a little more each time her lips, tongue and teeth caressed it. A second whimper and a third was enough to drive her completely mad. She struck the sensitive spot and lingered there for a while, relieving the pressure of her bites with kisses, only to the skin a little harder afterwards.

Her kisses went down the neck, and she checked the younger's consent a second time, only to sight her with closed eyes, head thrown back, mouth already half-open, and raised eyebrows. She reached down to the college girl's collarbones, and the latter hand grasped the back of the teacher's neck, caressing it several times as if to externalise an inner agitation. Chaewon kissed the collarbones with envy, and as her lips moved up the brunette's jaw, her hand finally grasped what held the bra. The ensuing breath was so heavy her whole body shivered.

Chaewon wasn't really a go-getter, no. She was a cautious and prudent type, which showed in her ordinary life. She didn't start an activity with her students without a lot of preparation beforehand, and she would never leave her flat until she had found the perfect outfit. Everything was under control, under reserve. Everything. Except what had to do with this girl.

She slowly removed the last piece of clothing on the student's and did everything that was beyond her control. Until the latter could no longer kiss her back, eyebrows furrowed, mouth wide open, temples drenched in sweat. Everything until her body trembled around her fingers. And it all went out of her control again when her own body arched on the sheets.

"You should really draw again," Chaewon said as she continued to run her fingers through the messy brown locks that covered her chest. She felt Minjoo's chuckle, which made her sweaty stomach tingle in happiness. "For real. There's potential."

"Maybe... when I'm done with exams," the brunette breathed, continuing to outline imaginary shapes on the young teacher's thigh, placing lots of little kisses on her belly as they started episode three of the drama. "I'm gonna take a shower."

"Okay," Chaewon pulled the blanket back over her torso as Minjoo stood up, gathering some clothes in the process. Definitely, she was keen to keep her room tidy, and despite the situation, the teacher preferred to keep her gaze focused on the screen instead of something else.

"You're not coming?'' The question was so natural that it made Chaewon's ears redden. There you go once more with the control, the reserve, all that and anything. Nevertheless, she bit her lip in anticipation and followed the brunette to the bathroom. She could've bet that Minjoo would be the kind to enjoy candy-flavoured shower gel, but she couldn't help but about it, swallowing half of the product when the student got mad. At least, it really tasted like candy.

"Remind me to bring my toothbrush next time," commented Chaewon, rubbing as well as possible her teeth with her finger covered with toothpaste. Her curls fell to the towel wrapped around her body, and her heart was beating as it had never beaten before, just by standing next to her candy smell-like lover.

"Yeah," Minjoo smiled at her through the mirror, wrapped in a large grey towel. "I like you, but not to the point I'll share my toothbrush with you."

"What?"

"Won't share my toothbrush," the brunette resumed as she spat into the sink, taking advantage of the stream of water to squirt some at the teacher. "And I like you."

Chaewon spat back. "I like you too."

"Now what?" Minjoo flicked off the light and gathered their folded clothes before opening her closet. A pile of tops practically fell on her, and her squeal of surprise earned a giggle from the other girl, who couldn't help but bestow a quick kiss on her candy hair afterwards.

"Pillow-princess want some more?" she jokingly suggested after the gesture.

"First of all, stop calling me that. You're just really good," Minjoo handed her a pair of sweatpants and an old t-shirt from a surfing competition on Jeju Island. "Second, I was talking about Legend of the Blue Sea episode four."

Finally, and against all odds, Chaewon insisted on watching the sixth episode. For she had to admit, the drama was entertaining and mildly stirring to follow. She only realized after a few minutes that the breathing in the hollow of her neck was too regular and intense to be awake. So while continuing to tenderly caress Minjoo's temple and hair, not caring about the tingling numbness from the weight of the younger girl's head, she finished the episode, turned off the computer and fell asleep peacefully under the embrace of her law student, who was indeed an excellent kisser, by the way.

-

It was the first night spent together and for sure the first of an interminable list that was shaping up wonderfully. They matched each other in every way, and yesterday's experience was another evidence of the intensity of those growing feelings that were blossoming between them.

The memories and sensations kept repeating in Chaewon's dreams. She woke up several times in the night because of the sweatpants' warmth in addition to the heat of the boiling body that was sticking to her in every possible way and each time, she kissed Minjoo's rosy cheeks gently before plunging into slumber again.

To experience it, being woken up by Minjoo was the most pleasant thing ever.

"Hey, hey," she was already smiling, as always, her eyes tired but shining with delicacy and...love? Chaewon didn't want to venture into that territory yet. But still. "Slept well? Not too hot?"

"You're so ing hot Min... in any way," the older girl confided sincerely, rubbing her eyes under the brunette's tender gaze. If she weren't so cute right now, Chaewon would've told her that she looked dumb with that lovestruck smile. "You?"

"You move a lot," the brunette giggled before planting more kisses on Chaewon's morning reddened cheeks, making sure to finish on her lips for a little longer.

"I had a dream about, like, you know...snake charm- snake charmers, hm?" Chaewon recalled her last dream of the night as if it had happened for real. Minjoo's kisses tickled her as she continued to talk as well as she could under the avalanche of tenderness. "Well-ooch. Well, we were snake charmers."

"Nightmare?" The sophomore interrupted her kisses, quickly straightening up on the bed, sitting on the sheet, one hand resting on the teacher's belly, exerting a little delicate pressure on it, it with her thumb.

"No... but weird," despite the early morning dizzy feeling, Chaewon managed to pull herself up onto her arms, sitting down face to face with the brunette who hurriedly closed her eyes, smiling as their lips crashed together with a distinctly cartoonish sound.

"That's my roommate." Minjoo ran a hand through her messy hair, letting the oversized t-shirt slide down her shoulder.

"Your roommate's a snake charmer?" Chaewon’s morning voice betrayed her confusion as her brown curls tumbled freely down her back, and her gaze didn't let go of the gorgeous student for a second. It was as if she was taking the time to immortalize this moment. To wake up next to her.

"No," Minjoo smiled imprudently. "But she plays music to wake me and the entire Asian continent up in the morning."

"For real?" the teacher widened her eyes, then fell back heavily between two pillows. "She played the flute?"

The brunette nodded with a chuckle, "and if we don't get up, she might do it again."

"Oh my... This is ed up," sighed Chaewon, running a weary hand through her messy bangs. Kissing Minjoo was natural now, and she tenderly caressed the back of her neck, savouring the innocent kiss that warmed her heart.

After this last exchange of tenderness, Minjoo rolled away from the bed, stretching out in front of the window, letting the morning blue pastel colour the white walls and sheets in a pretty bluish halo. Chaewon bit her lip as the shirt lifted, revealing the waist and lower back where she placed a few hickeys last night. Seized with an impulse, she got up as well, putting two arms around this warm waist, planting several kisses on the student's neck.

Eventually, a new tune of a flute sounded, and Minjoo went first to the bathroom, giving Chaewon the pleasure of announcing her presence to the roommate who certainly couldn't expect to have a visit so early in the morning. Aside from the angry European neighbours.

The modest apartment's living room smelled completely different this time, a mixture of coffee, toast, cherries and other fruit aromas. Someone was sitting on the couch, and the television was diffusing a program for children. Chaewon hesitated a little, nervous about encountering her... her... Minjoo's best friend, but fortunately, the latter made it easy.

"Behind you bitc- what the hell?!" Yuri brought a hand to her heart, regaining her breath with difficulty after the horror that jolted her from head to toe. She then stared confusedly at the teacher, until a small light bulb lit up above her head. "Yoooo, hi! You the deer teacher, right?"

The totally appalled look on the young woman's face amused Chaewon, and also the fact that Minjoo had already told about her-she chose to ignore the deer thing- to her best friend. In fact, Chaewon already knew a lot about the legendary Jo Yuri. Minjoo was really talkative, and her roommate was quite a character, providing tons of funny anecdotes. Although, Minjoo had never mentioned the fact that Yuri would wake her up every morning with a musical instrument.

"Hope she told you I don't dress like a deer every day!" Put into confidence by the roommate's easygoing vibe, Chaewon allowed herself to joke a bit.

"Yeah, don't worry," Yuri waved her hand, quickly fixed the mini shorts she was wearing and headed to the kitchen, inviting the surprise guest to do the same. "Coffee? Tea? Orange juice?"

"I'll have coffee, please," delighted, Chaewon approached the kitchenette that Minjoo quickly showed her last night and sat down on one of the stools, taking advantage of her reflection in the microwave glass to fix her bangs. "Love the vinyl collection, by the way."

"Aah! Min showed you?" the silver-haired girl smiled as she grabbed a cup, grasping the opportunity to stretch a little.

"Yup. That's so cool," the guest smiled. "She also told me you had a bunch of instruments."

The roommate bowed forward several times, signifying how sorry she was, "So sorry about this morning... Didn't know you'd be here!"

"Oh, no! It's fine!" Chaewon shook her hands, assuring her that everything was alright. She then enthusiastically accepted the hot cup of coffee Yuri handed her.

"You'll have to get used to it..." Minjoo's voice surprised both of them, and Chaewon thought she fell in love at first sight for the third time. The first time being that evening when the student had come to pick up her niece, the second being yesterday night when she heard her moan her name. Seeing her all pretty in the morning light, with the visions of the mess she was last night in mind, was something akin to mesmerizing.

"Yah!" Yuri cut off their longing looks. "You couldn't tell me?"

"It was a little unexpected," she apologized falsely, tenderly wrapping her arm around the young teacher's neck as the latter sipped her coffee, amused by the situation. "And I thought you wouldn't be home."

"The guy was so weird..." the roommate complained, stretching again. "I asked him to drop me off around 3 am."

"Why was he weird?" Chaewon joined in the conversation, tightening her grip around Minjoo's legs while her hip.

"There was a collection of golden packages in his car?" Yuri sat on the opposite stool, decided to tell the whole story. "See Min, I was with Jiung and Taeyang in Hongdae, then we met up with some of their friends at a bar. You know Lee Minyeok? Yeah, well the guys he's hanging with. Anyway, got close to one of them, so when I got in his car to see packs? Cus' he said they were collectors but only a freak would collect... that. Told him to take me home and he did. Glad he did, though."

"One day, you're going to get into trouble," Minjoo commented.

"It's okay. Jiung stayed on the phone with me since a certain someone didn't bother to pick up..." her accusing glare shot literal knives to her best friend who simply shrugged, letting her chest slump against the teacher's shoulder as she grinned, once again amused by the roommate's attitude.

Barely fifteen minutes later, the three girls left the flat. Yuri went for the right, carrying a guitar on her back, while Minjoo and Chaewon took the same route as the day before, returning to the private park where Chaewon's car was. They parted after a few kisses and spent the rest of the day daydreaming about each other.
