Eureka Moment

Double Life

A/N: Happy 2nd Anniversary to Everglow!! I released this fic in conjunction with that though I am a little late. All I hope for really is for the girls to always be happy and fulfilled in everything they do ;_; Anyway, I would like to give special thanks to MoonlitPrincess because she lets me throw my ideas and spazz at her all the time. I never really have it in me to actually write out an entire fic but this was one of those rare moments, I got a burst of inspiration and I had to work on it regardless if it was good or not haha. I hope whoever that reads enjoys this!

Sihyeon always liked sitting towards the back of the lecture hall in her Business class. No, it wasn’t so that she could doze off and sleep.  Sihyeon didn’t know if she could call herself the most hardworking student there on campus but she always diligently took notes and was very responsible when it came to her studies. Or at least so she would like to think. However, she was not a morning person and sometimes would barely make it to class in time. So, it was easier to sneak in at the back whenever she was in a close shave of almost being late. I mean anyone has those kinds of days right?

There was also another girl who had a habit of taking a seat towards the back of the hall just directly in front of Sihyeon. She had long dark lustrous hair, and was often clad in either a simple sweatshirt or hoodie and Sihyeon noticed would always have a cap on without fail. The cap would sometimes be in different colors; mostly dark colors be it black, navy blue, dark maroon and so on. She did look like she had some light make-up on but Sihyeon couldn’t really tell since she never had a clear look of the girl’s face before. The one thing Sihyeon could tell was that the girl was tall; like really tall. She was pretty tall herself too but the girl had to be like a supermodel’s height. The girl also had lips on the thicker side which Sihyeon found really attractive as they were full and luscious.

Apart from that, the girl was a complete mystery to her. She did happen to know the mysterious girl’s name though.  Since the girl was just in front of Sihyeon, she managed to have a peek when the girl was ticking her name on the attendance sheet. Heo Yoorim. The name sounded familiar but Sihyeon didn’t think much of it since it was not uncommon for people she knew to have similar sounding names. Sihyeon found it strange that the girl Yoorim barely talked to anyone on campus nor seemed to have any friends. She even had her lunches alone. Sihyeon  didn’t think Yoorim was a bad person though. Despite her tall intimidating figure, Sihyeon thought that the taller girl was really kind and considerate.

One time a girl of much smaller stature holding a pile of library books was in a rush and bumped into Yoorim who was having an ice cream that dropped straight onto the floor, thankfully not dirtying any of the books. Sihyeon was so sure that Yoorim would naturally get annoyed and pissed at the smaller clumsier girl and tell her off or something. However as the smaller girl was profusely apologizing, Yoorim bent down looking concerned asking if the girl was okay and helped her pick up the books.

Another time a thin, scrawny boy sitting just 2 seats away from Yoorim was getting reprimanded by their lecturer for a sloppy assignment he had handed in. Sihyeon felt bad for the boy who was getting humiliated in front of the whole class and knew she definitely didn’t want to be him. The poor boy probably only had done his best but writing and academics just wasn’t his thing Sihyeon figured. Sihyeon could see the boy trembling from where she was sitting and most likely holding back his tears. Then just at that moment, Sihyeon saw Yoorim wordlessly passing him over tissues under the table.

Apart from that, Sihyeon just happened to be a witness of many other occasions involving Yoorim such as when she swiftly saved a girl who tripped and almost fell down the stairs. Just the more Sihyeon was a witness to the acts of kindness performed by the taller mysterious girl, the more she was intrigued by her. One time over lunch, Sihyeon’s own friends brought Yoorim up and it became their lunch topic conversation. They commented how she was just so shady and mysterious since no one knew anything about her. Antisocial too and had a dangerous, intimidating aura about her that made her scary and difficult to approach.

“Don’t you think so too Sihyeon? Isn’t that tall girl always wearing a cap from your Business class kinda scary?” asked Serim, one of Sihyeon’s friends as they were having lunch together.

“Hmm? I don’t really think so though…” Sihyeon says as she ponders on all the acts of kindness she witnessed of Yoorim and proceeds to tell all about them to her friends. Sihyeon talks so enthusiastically it makes two of her friends Jiwon and Eunji smirk knowingly at each other and back at Sihyeon who pauses midway in her sentence, feeling uncomfortable that the two of them are looking at her in such a way. She takes a glance at her other two friends Serim and Yiren but they look just as clueless as she is.

“Okay the two of you lovebirds look like you’re up to no good. What is it?” Sihyeon eyes both Jiwon and Eunji suspiciously who both got a little shaken from being called “lovebirds”.

“We are just childhood friends okay!” Jiwon says hastily as Eunji nods vigorously.

“And besides the one who clearly has a crush here is you Sihyeon. Just go and ask your mystery girl out for a date already since you think she’s so cool.”

“Ask her out?? I could never! Just she is really cool. Cooler than all the oppas I’ve dated before too…”

At this point, all of Sihyeon’s friends are just giving her a look and giggling about how whipped she is for the tall mysterious girl. Meanwhile, Sihyeon just dismisses them. Like are they crazy or what? She has never even talked to the girl before! They have to be out of their minds…right?

Just a few days later, Sihyeon finds herself having to grab lunch alone as her other 4 friends are busy trying to finish their assignments. They may be from the same university, but most of her classes are different from theirs, so she had no idea if they were being entirely truthful or not. She had been friends with them since her high school days, and they were a fun bunch but often sneaky too. Sihyeon was pretty sociable, so she did have other friends she could hang out with for lunch and she did think of that but Yoorim sat in the corner of the cafeteria on her own with her black cap just piqued her curiosity way too much.

Sihyeon didn’t feel she could do something as crazy as to ask the girl out. But surely she could just go introduce herself and start a conversation right? That can’t be too hard. Without thinking further, Sihyeon heads towards Yoorim’s table in the cafeteria, places her tray down and sits across Yoorim who is eating by herself minding her own business as usual.

“Hi! You’re Yoorim from my Business class right? Can I join you for lunch today?” Sihyeon asks as cheerfully as possible. The taller girl just looks up at Sihyeon in slight confusion but nods slightly.

“Great! I’m Sihyeon! I sit just behind you in class!”

Sihyeon then proceeds to talk excitedly about all kinds of random things from how lectures were that day, her school days and even her pet dog and cat, Haerong and Darong back in her family home. However, the conversations end up quite one-sided as Sihyeon was mostly the one talking with Yoorim just quietly listening and occasionally dropping a comment or two here and there.

Halfway through, Sihyeon thinks she messed it all up but as she excitedly shows photos of Haerong and Darong to Yoorim, she catches the taller girl smiling sweetly under her cap. Perhaps all was ok after all!  Just as Sihyeon realizes she’s been talking too much and wanted to just ask something about Yoorim, she looks at her phone and realizes her lunchtime is over and she has to go to her next class.

“I’m so sorry Yoorim! I was so carried away I didn’t get to hear anything about you! I’ll join you at lunch tomorrow too ok? Gotta go then!” Sihyeon blurts quickly and then dashes off to her next class before Yoorim could even say anything. Yoorim just smiled to herself again thinking of how cute and bubbly that Sihyeon girl was.

Yoorim appeared to be somewhat of an antisocial on campus, not really mixing with anyone not because she was cold or arrogant. It was far from that. From a very young age, Yoorim had been exposed to many important business settings run by her family who owned a mega business and were very prominent. She considered herself being able to talk to and network with people much older than her at ease but when it came to people her own age…well she didn’t like to give excuses but it was genuinely difficult.

For all her life, Yoorim had always been homeschooled as her family did not think a regular school education was sufficient to train her as the one and only heiress of the Heo Corporation as the only child. Technically, she didn’t even require a higher education since she was already completely well versed in all the affairs of her family’s company business. But with her wit, she managed to persuade her father and even her strict grandfather that going to university would let her experience the world in a way she never had before and help to expand her world view of society and the world in general.

She assured them she wanted to be fully capable in all areas by the time the company gets handed over to her since she still felt lacking in some areas. She even convinced them that living alone in a moderately sized apartment rather than a luxury one that her family could most definitely afford was the way to go. Yoorim may have lived a very sheltered life but her mother who married into the family had always taught her to be independent such as helping out with the chores and the skills to cook for herself. In fact, Yoorim was a pretty good cook, and her mum even said her skills had surpassed even hers and Yoorim was proud of that. She was also thankful her mum raised her the way she did. Otherwise, she would have so much difficulty carrying out the life she did now.

But as the result of being homeschooled, Yoorim really didn’t have any friends her own age. Well that is apart from a bunch of cousins she wasn’t particularly close to because they envied her family and their prominence and success. Yoorim had a whole rational argument as to why she should attend university and live on her own to her family, but the truth is she just wanted to experience life too like everyone else her age did. Yoorim managed to get her way with her wisdom and tact alone, but there were still conditions. She still had to attend all the major family and company functions as well as all the press releases to fulfill her duty by making public appearances as the official heiress of the Heo Corporation. So, that meant putting on lots of makeup and pretty glittery dresses. Yoorim didn’t hate that actually, but since her family was very well known, she figured she should try to keep a low profile on campus.

She didn’t really bother to change her name since her name was fairly common and she figured people wouldn’t be that observant. That’s how she ended up in her double life wearing hoodies in the winter and sweatshirts towards summer, paired with a cap on her head without fail. She was proud of herself for being able to maintain a low profile, but the problem was she did want to socialize with people her own age casually too. But she just didn’t know how. Perhaps that girl Sihyeon who approached her could be the starting point she needed.

To Yoorim’s delight, Sihyeon really comes by the next day and sits across Yoorim again during lunch.

"Ok Yoorim, I'm ready. I won't say a thing. Tell me about you!"

Yoorim does want to become friendlier with the cute, bubbly girl but it was probably too early to tell her everything about herself. Besides, she still felt awkward and shy, not being accustomed talking to someone her own age. Yoorim explained to Sihyeon how she’s always been homeschooled and didn’t have any friends her age.

Without herself even realizing, Yoorim’s eyes even sparkled when she said she decided to go to university due to her own desire to see the world and what it was like. She shared most details of her current life such as how she was currently living by herself for the first time but only leaving out the fact she was the heiress of a huge conglomerate.

“Oh that’s cool! Hey Yoorim, then can I be your first same age friend??” Sihyeon asks expectantly.

“Ah....yeah....sure. I mean why not?” Yoorim answers shyly.

“Yayyy!! Thank you so much Yoorim!” Sihyeon beams so brightly and grins to herself happily. Yoorim can’t help but to smile at how excited and adorable Sihyeon is at the moment. She even has a lingering thought that the girl somewhat resembled a cute rabbit.

“I have seen you in class and about. You seem to be someone with many friends. What makes you so happy about being my friend?” Yoorim asks, genuinely curious about Sihyeon’s burst of energy and excitement.

“Well…it’s a little embarrassing…but I always thought you were really cool.”

Sihyeon breaks eye contact with Yoorim and starts fidgeting her fingers, her head looking down. Yoorim found the way Sihyeon who up to that point had been so bright and cheerful getting all bashful a really cute sight to see. She couldn’t help but to laugh heartily at the adorable girl.

“But again may I ask why?”  Though it was very flattering, Yoorim was very curious too as to what prompted Sihyeon to think that way.

“Well you see…”

Sihyeon proceeded to share with Yoorim all the things she happened to witness. She shyly shared all the details but by the end of it, she could feel her cheeks heating up so much she was certain she must have turned even redder than a tomato. She couldn’t even believe she had divulged that much information though they had only started talking yesterday.

“So that’s why I find you really cool…” Sihyeon’s voice trailed off but then after that in a soft voice which was close to a whisper she accidentally blurted out her internal thoughts, “Even cooler than the oppas I’ve dated….”

Unluckily for Sihyeon, Yoorim had really sharp ears and heard exactly what Sihyeon had said. She looks amusedly at Sihyeon and lets out a chuckle.

“Sihyeon, I heard that you know.”

“You…WHAT?!”

Sihyeon gets all flustered, feeling as though she had messed up big time. That’s it that was the end of her. What if Yoorim started feeling awkward around her then? On the other hand, Yoorim was actually thoroughly enjoying herself and finding Sihyeon even more and more charming the more they talked. Seeing Sihyeon look somewhat troubled, she smiled reassuringly and laughed heartily once more. Hearing Yoorim’s laughter, Sihyeon felt relieved but at the same time, she felt an uncomfortable tugging in her chest. Yoorim was doing things to her heart and she was not sure just how much more she could take. What was happening to her? She didn’t know but all she knew was Yoorim’s warm laughter was now her favorite sound in the world.

From that day onwards, Sihyeon hanging out with Yoorim over lunch became a daily thing. Sihyeon would just come by with her lunch and sit across Yoorim and they always had a blast just chatting and getting to know each other. This went on for about 2 weeks but something bothered Yoorim.

It was true she enjoyed Sihyeon’s company and was grateful to her. Though she was not the best socially especially not with people her age, she knew well she wasn’t Sihyeon’s only friend. Because of that, she asked Sihyeon if it was really okay she took up Sihyeon’s lunch time every day. Yoorim knew well Sihyeon had other friends, so she knew she couldn’t be selfish.

“I am really here cause I want to be though…but you may be right. Their teasing is getting worse and worse lately…guess I may need to cut down on my lunch hangouts with you Yoorim,” Sihyeon says regretfully. Of course Sihyeon knew Yoorim was being considerate, but a part of Sihyeon didn’t want to just let things go like they were already fairly comfortable with each other.

"Well...if you don't mind and are ok with it, we can hang out after classes when we don't have any assignments due...?" Sihyeon asked hopefully, crossing her fingers that Yoorim would agree. Upon hearing that, Yoorim’s eyes lit brightly and she agreed immediately to it. Thus, they started spending more and more time with each other especially after classes but sometimes even on weekends. Sihyeon was determined to let Yoorim experience all the things she could with a same age friend. Cakes at the café, dessert at the ice cream store, a full day at the amusement park, hanging out at the game arcade, cinema, fast food chain store, zoo, art gallery, museum, aquarium…

They spent so much time together to the point Sihyeon started feeling as though those hangouts could almost even be dates. She didn’t fully understand why herself, but she just felt safe with Yoorim. Maybe it was because Yoorim had broad shoulders and so looked strong and reliable. Or maybe it was because whenever she walked on the streets with Yoorim and some older men tried to hit on her, Yoorim would put a protective hand over her shoulder and give them a piercing glare and they would just scramble off without a second thought. Sihyeon was now 100% certain that Yoorim was definitely cooler than all the oppas she had dated.

The thing is though, did Yoorim even see Sihyeon the same way she saw her? She had feelings, the romantic kind, for the taller girl but she also knew that Yoorim really only wanted a friend. She was more than happy to be Yoorim’s friend but the more and more time Sihyeon spent with Yoorim, she couldn’t help but to yearn for something more.

One day, it was after classes and the two girls had decided to go to the beach to catch the sunset. As the brilliantly red and orange tints painted the sky, Sihyeon gaped in awe at how majestic the sight was. Even the sea was in a warm orange hue and for some reason it overwhelmed Sihyeon’s senses, making her feel glad to be there in that moment alive and breathing. She was in complete ease and smiled so much in contentment Yoorim couldn’t help but to just gaze gently at her as Sihyeon’s long wavy chestnut brown hair swayed in the light breeze.

And right there Yoorim had an epiphany. Sihyeon wasn’t just her first friend. Sihyeon became what she looked forward to seeing every day. Her comfort, her laughter, her warmth, her kindness. Though Sihyeon was so close the whole time, Yoorim didn’t know why she had never realized it till this moment. When she squinted her eyes in the light of the sunset, she realized how precious Sihyeon was to her. Sihyeon was truly beautiful; she couldn’t even find the right words to explain how beautiful Sihyeon shone together with the sunset. Sihyeon deserved the world and Yoorim would do anything to make sure she could have it.

She doesn’t know what gets into her but by complete impulse, Yoorim asks Sihyeon if she would like to come over to her place for a sleepover. Sihyeon doesn’t see this coming at all and gets flustered by the question but subsequently  agrees to the arrangement. Then they parted ways as Sihyeon said she needed to go back to get a change of clothes or rather pajamas for the night. Yoorim had told Sihyeon to take her time as Yoorim needed time to prepare something for dinner for both of them.

When Sihyeon is in her own room picking out her pajamas for her sleepover, she can’t help feeling somewhat expectant. She didn’t know if it was really okay for her to be but she saw how Yoorim looked at her when they were standing in the sunset. It was such a loving gaze; she didn’t know if she was imagining things but it was as though Yoorim’s eyes were telling her in that moment how much she yearned to hold and treasure Sihyeon. Or maybe she was being delusional? Could Yoorim really have feelings for her too? Nevertheless, Sihyeon wanted to look the cutest for Yoorim and picked out her cutest pajamas because for some reason, she felt it was now or never.

Before she knew it, she and Yoorim had finished up the kimchi jigae that Yoorim had quickly cooked up for the both of them. Since the whole thing was quite impromptu, Yoorim just used whatever she had in her fridge and apologized it wasn’t something fancier. Sihyeon of course scolded Yoorim for even apologizing because Sihyeon loved kimchi jigae anyway; it was like comfort food to her. And Yoorim was actually a really good cook. Sihyeon was convinced it was the best kimchi jigae she had in her entire life.

When they were done eating, Sihyeon wanted to help with washing the dishes but Yoorim insisted she would do them because Sihyeon was her guest that day. Instead, she urged Sihyeon to go take a shower first meanwhile and reluctantly Sihyeon agreed. In no time, both girls were done showering and drying their hair, both clad in their cute pajamas.

When Yoorim is done and comes out of the bathroom, Sihyeon’s jaw literally drops. Not only is she seeing the cool and charismatic Yoorim without her cap for the first time, she is in the cutest white pajamas too with smiley emoticons all over them. And above all that, Sihyeon couldn’t get over how drop dead gorgeous Yoorim truly was with her proportions – those long legs, lustrous hair and lips, defined nose and the most entrancing eyes. She doesn’t even realize just how much in a daze that sight of Yoorim left her that Yoorim called out to her several times but she didn’t respond.

“Sihyeon, you there?? Sihyeon??” Yoorim stares curiously at the rabbit-like girl, wearing the most adorable pajamas Yoorim thinks she has ever seen. Or maybe it’s cause Sihyeon looks the cutest in them. The soft fabric was in a shade of dark blue which Yoorim thought really suited Sihyeon with teddy bear designs all over them.  It really takes a good while of Yoorim calling Sihyeon’s name when she finally does snap out of her daze.

“Ah yes sorry Yoorim! I perhaps got too comfortable here. Your place is…really cozy. “ Sihyeon half lies as she was too embarrassed to tell Yoorim just how mesmerized she is by her. Luckily, Yoorim didn’t question Sihyeon’s comment but instead just laughs warmly. That same laugh Sihyeon loved so very much.

They both shyly complimented each other and their cute PJs and then proceeded to sit down next to each other on the sofa, feeling slightly awkward but also excited to be so near each other. Their moment of awkwardness is broken by Sihyeon first as the girl wants to make the most of her sleepover with Yoorim. Who knows if there will even be a second time?

“Hey Yoorim, do you know what Truth or Dare is?”

“No what’s that? Care to explain?”

“Hmm it’s usually funner with a group of people. But since you’ve never played it, let’s do it!”

Both girls kept picking “Dare” and made each other do a bunch of silly dumb things. Slowly but surely, they start feeling like how they usually do when they hang out, having a lot of fun and getting really comfortable. It was all friendly banter and dares until Yoorim decided it was time to take things up a notch.

“Hey Sihyeon, how does a “Truth” work? Can you show me once?”

“Oh my bad! I should have shown you an example. Truth!”

“So, I can ask you anything and you have to answer truthfully?”

“Yeah exactly!” Sihyeon exclaimed enthusiastically, oblivious to the fact that Yoorim was an opportunist and wasn’t going to miss a chance laid out right in front of her. She gazes adoringly at Sihyeon which makes Sihyeon gulp nervously, wondering what Yoorim had in mind to be looking so irresistibly attractive she had to hold back the strong urge of glomping her.

“Kim Sihyeon, do you want to be my girlfriend?” Yoorim asks boldly and with zero hesitation. This doesn’t register for Sihyeon at first and she just blinks and stares blankly at Yoorim till the words hit her.

“HUH…WAIT WHAT?!! Hold on…” Sihyeon stares incredulously  at Yoorim, unsure if Yoorim really asked her the question or she dreamt it up or even worse if Yoorim was just making a joke. But Yoorim’s soft affectionate gaze hadn’t changed so that means…

“I…wait…that’s not…fair…Yoorim.” Sihyeon stammers, barely managing to get the words out.

“Why? Aren't we playing Truth or Dare?” Yoorim asks innocently.

“I don’t know if you know….but…but….”Sihyeon takes a deep breath in an effort to calm down and regain composure.

“IalreadyhadfeelingsforyousincethestartYoorim.”  Sihyeon manages to admit her feelings though she spoke incredibly quickly. Yoorim just nods, and just continues staring intently at Sihyeon as though she was expecting more from the now very shaken girl next to her.

“I…of course I want to be!” Sihyeon proclaims boldly.

“Be what?”

"Your your...girlfriend....that is if you want me too...." Sihyeon stammers due to her nerves again.

Sihyeon expected Yoorim to say something back in return right away but instead all Yoorim does is smile satisfactorily, clearly enjoying herself and poor Sihyeon is wondering if Yoorim was truly serious. Cause if she was, why did she not respond back to her confession? There’s no way Sihyeon was going to just let this pass.

“Okay your turn for a truth Yoorim!!”

Sihyeon couldn’t help but notice how Yoorim kept making quick shy glances at Sihyeon lips. Now, Sihyeon wasn’t the type of person who would usually jump ahead of herself but she figured heck, it’s now or never and so, she did the bravest thing she felt she ever did in her life.

“Yoorim….do you….want to kiss me?”

Right after asking, Sihyeon quickly cuts eye contact with Yoorim and looks down because she couldn’t bear to look at Yoorim in the face. Seeing her getting all shy made Yoorim weak in her knees. Just how adorable could Sihyeon get really?

“First of all, of course I’ll be proud to be your girlfriend too,” Yoorim says sweetly as she slides to Sihyeon and holds her hand.

“So, of course I want to kiss you, so Sihyeon don’t hide from me. I dare you Sihyeon. I dare you to look at me and kiss me.” Yoorim says assertively.

“Whaaaat?!” Sihyeon gets all flustered all over and Yoorim can’t help but to laugh warmly.

Sihyeon then slowly lifts her head and looks at Yoorim and gulps multiple times. She scans Yoorim’s face. Though she had just laughed at her, Yoorim was looking fondly at her with the most gentle and affectionate expression. Somehow, this helps Sihyeon to stop panicking.

She calms down a little and is able to muster the courage to near Yoorim. She lets go of Yoorim’s hand but instead puts her own hands around Yoorim’s neck and heck cause she only lives once, she decides to be bold and leaves a quick peck on the taller girl’s lips.

Embarrassed, Sihyeon tries to pull back but Yoorim draws her back in, her own luscious lips enclosed on Sihyeon’s lips, and they were no longer two people with two stories and two minds but one. Yoorim really has a way about her. To Sihyeon, she is soft yet immersive, and still gentle yet powerful; all at the same time. All Sihyeon could feel was her. Sihyeon finds herself falling fast, craving for Yoorim’s sweet lips more and more. There’s no doubt Yoorim fit into her like a glove. When their lips came in unison with each other, it felt so assuring but also so warm and soft to the point it became addictive and Sihyeon didn’t want to stop.

But alas, Sihyeon had to come to a stop because her stupid, stupid lungs needed air, forcing her to separate from Yoorim with the feeling of gravity being torn out of her core. Unconsciously, Sihyeon lets out a disappointed moan.

"So, I leave you breathless huh?" Yoorim jokes, causing Sihyeon to hit Yoorim's chest playfully. Yoorim does nothing but laugh at her newly made girlfriend who she was convinced has to be the cutest girl in the world.

“It’s okay. We have all the time in the world baby,” Yoorim says gently as she kisses Sihyeon’s forehead affectionately and nuzzles into her hair. At this point, Sihyeon is too shy to say anything, so she just clings onto Yoorim, and Yoorim more than willingly cradles Sihyeon in her arms. They sit there in comfortable silence for a while but not long later, Sihyeon falls asleep comfortably in Yoorim’s arms.

Yoorim was surprised at how quickly Sihyeon fell asleep. Since they have now started dating, Yoorim didn’t want to hide anything and considered to tell Sihyeon everything about herself that night itself. But guess that has to wait for another day. She didn’t want to stir her princess from her beauty sleep.

Yoorim looked adoringly at the girl in her arms again, now her very own precious bunny. She couldn’t help herself and also left another light kiss on the sleeping girl’s lips. Not long later, Yoorim too dozed off into sleep, and they lay there with contented smiles on their faces, happy that they now have found love in each other.
