Perfect Ryujin

Yuna looked out the window. There, in the middle of the school’s field, she saw the president of Student Council walked with her fellow Student Council members. She sighed and averted her gaze back to her book. However, she found it was hard to concentrate to her lesson. Her mind kept wondering to certain person, the president of Student Council, Shin Ryujin.

Ryujin was actually Yuna’s senior since she was only on her 2nd grade while Ryujin was already on her final year. Ryujin was the most admirable student in their school, thanks to her skill in basketball and of course her looks. Ryujin was not your typical popular girl who is always smile and friendly towards everyone. She, in fact, was the opposite. She had this cold aura around her. She rarely smiled. If she did, it was more like a smirk than a smile. And that was the weird part. Everyone thought that Ryujin looked so cool with her smirk whereas Yuna found it annoying.

“Thinking about our student council president?” that question startled Yuna.

“What? Of course, no! Why did you say that?” Yuna said, trying to hide her nervousness.

“Well, I just guessed it. Since, you know, almost all students here are head over heels for that Shin Ryujin,” said Lia.

“About that . . .” Yuna’s sentence cut out by the sound of bell, signalling it was the time for lunch break.

Yuna and Lia ate their lunch at the school’s canteen while discussed about their upcoming science project when suddenly the noisy canteen became less noisy. Yuna looked at the door and there was the reason why the canteen become less noisy. Ryujin and Yeji just entered the canteen and they greeted everyone with their smiles. Well, it was only Yeji who smiled. Ryujin? She kept with her stoic expression.

Yuna watched as everyone in the canteen fixed and smoothed down their uniform, trying to look good in front of Ryujin and Yeji. They walked past Yuna’s table when suddenly Ryujin stopped, turned back at Yuna.

“Shin Yuna, I need to talk to you later.” And with that she left.

Now, everyone’s attention was on Yuna. Why on earth the students’ council talked to the quiet girl like Yuna. She turned to Lia who had the same wondering look on her face like everyone did in the canteen.

“Why Ryujin want to talk to you?”

Yuna just shrugged her shoulder. Not minding to give more explanation to Lia. Yuna always be that quiet girl with not that many friends. In school, she only had two close friends. First is Lia, who is her classmate. And second is Arin but she is in different class with them.

Yuna wrote down everything her teacher wrote on the blackboard. She hoped by doing so, it would help her from thinking about Ryujin. Since lunchtime, she kept wondering why Ryujin ask her in front of everyone like that.

The bell rang and everyone in the classroom cheered. The teacher dismissed the class and Yuna quickly exited the classroom.

“Yuna! Wait!”

“What Lia?”

“Aren’t you supposed to meet Ryujin right now?” Lia asked.

“I don’t know. I feel like I don’t want to meet her,” Yuna said quietly.

“Why? I bet she just want to . . .” Lia didn’t finish her sentence.

“Shin Yuna!,” that voice stopped Lia from talking.

There behind Yuna and Lia, stood Ryujin with her usual cold aura.

“I need you to come with me,” Ryujin’s voice wasn’t loud but it sounded so strong and demanding.

Yuna turned to Lia, she asked for help. However, Lia shook her head and left Yuna and Ryujin alone. Yuna sighed as she had no choice but did what Ryujin asked.

“Follow me,” Ryujin said and she walked past Yuna. Yuna huffed as she thought Ryujin was so bossy, ordering people around. But still, Yuna followed her anyway.

Ryujin climbed the stairs to the fourth floor. Yuna walked behind her, watching her back and not noticing where Ryujin took her. Suddenly Ryujin stopped and it made Yuna collided with her back.

“I-I am sorry” said Yuna.

Ryujin smiled and said, “It’s okay”

She then opened the door and asked Yuna to come to the empty classroom. When Yuna already inside, Ryujin closed the door and walked towards Yuna.

“Why did you say you want to talk to me in front of everyone? I mean you could just--“

Ryujin pulled Yuna’s waist and crashed her lips onto Yuna’s. Yuna tried to fight back but Ryujin had strong grip on her. Ryujin noticed that Yuna tried to fight back and she broke the kiss.

“You! What are you doing?” Yuna snapped at Ryujin.

Ryujin, with her smirk, didn’t utter a word and proceed to sit on the chair.

“I said what you are doing, Shin Ryujin!” Yuna became very irritated because of Ryujin.

Silence engulfed them. Ryujin calmly sat there while gazing out the window. She seemed in a deep thought. Yuna realized she won’t get an answer from Ryujin, decided to sat as well. Far away from Ryujin of course.

After minutes, Ryujin rose from her seat. She took her bag. She seemed looking for something in her bag. Yuna watched her quietly.

“This is for you,” said Ryujin when she finally got what she looking for. She handed a cute hair clip with a pink ribbon on top of it to Yuna.

“What is it?”

“It is a hair clip of course,” said Ryujin.

“Why?” Yuna asked.

“I find it is cute and I think I should give it to you. It reminds me to you. You are the cutest”

Yuna blushed a little after hearing that. However, she kept telling herself to not let her guard down because of this cute little gesture.

“Wait! Did I just say cute? Wake up Yuna!” Yuna said in the thought.

“So, what is so important till you need to call me here in front of people?”

Hearing the question, uneasiness crept on Ryujin. She tapped her fingers on the arm of the chair.

“I miss you”

That. That simple sentence broke the wall that Yuna’s been built.

“I haven’t meet you for days. I think I miss you,” Ryujin said again.

Yuna really couldn’t believe what she just heard. The perfect Ryujin, the ideal Ryujin, just said that she missed her. This must be a dream, Yuna thought.

Well, Yuna and Ryujin were not just in a Junior – Senior relationship. They were a couple. Even so, they weren’t acting like a couple in front of people. Let’s say that they were a secret couple. They started going out few months back when Ryujin suddenly appeared in Yuna’s house and asked Yuna’s parents’ permission to date her. Yuna’s parents of course said yes. But then again, who would say no to the perfect and ideal Ryujin when she asked permission to date their daughter?

How about Yuna? It would be a lie if she said she didn’t harbor any feeling towards Ryujin. She’s been crushing on Ryujin since last year and having her crush confessed in front of her parents, she said yes right away. She thought her relationship would fill with roses but it was not exactly happened.

“Oh really? I am flattered that you miss me,” Yuna said coldly.

“But I really meant it!” Ryujin took Yuna’s hands and stared right into her eyes. Yuna found herself melting under the stare but she must resist. She couldn’t fall again. Not this time.

“If you really miss me, why can’t you say it in front of people in this school?” Yuna dared. She mustered all her courage and stared back at Ryujin.

Ryujin released her grip on Yuna’s hands. She took one step backwards. Yuna felt a little pang in her heart when Ryujin did that.

“You know I can’t do that, Yuna” Ryujin said desperately.

“Why?” Yuna took one step forward. “Is it because I am not popular? Is it because I am not good enough for you?”

Tears were very visible in Yuna’s eyes. Ryujin avoided Yuna’s ayes as he couldn’t stand the sadness look on Yuna. She felt really guilty because she was the cause of those tears.

“Cat get you tongue, Ryujin?” Yuna smiled.

“Yuna please. You don’t understand,” Ryujin tried to explain herself.

“Don’t understand that we need keep our relationship as a secret? Ryujin, I tried to understands for months! But it is too much for me,” tears rolled freely on Yuna’s cheeks.

“Please Yuna. Don’t cry,” Ryujin pleaded and cupped Yuna’s face.

“Don’t!” Yuna pried Ryujin’s hands. “Let me make myself clear”
