Memories from a journey with the one you love most.

Day: 1 Bunny
In hindsight, Joohyun should have definitely thought twice before assuming that she could get through the subunit filming without a proper meal. Now, here she was, five hours in and no end in sight to the all-night music video session. She was happy of course, elated even, she had been looking forward to branching out and being able to showcase not only her dancing abilities but also her vocals that often went unnoticed in the backtracks for the Red Velvet songs.

“Alright everyone,” the director’s voice cut through the quiet room. “Thirty-minute dinner break and then we go again from the chorus.”

Quickly and quietly, one by one the dancers and other staff filed out of the room and into the hallways where their food was being kept. Joohyun could smell it all from here, the dancers had packed kimbap and the producers had all gotten take out from the local convenience store just down the street. Just as she was gonna follow Seulgi out of the room and towards the food, a familiar head of light brown hair popped into the filming room.

“Hey, I cooked some of your favorites,” Seungwan said, raising the little lunch box that hung in her hand and offering one of her signature soft smiles that made Joohyun melt. “Let’s go eat before Seulgi eats all of the food I made her and then asks for some of ours.”

All the tiredness that Joohyun had felt just moments prior instantly vanished as she bounced her way over to her girlfriend, already salivating at the thought of warm and fresh food. Entertaining her hand with the one outstretched towards her, Joohyun tugged gently for Seungwan to follow but was met with a little resistance as Seungwan stayed standing.

“Everything okay?”

“Yeah, I just can’t get over the fact that you bunny hopped over here looking like,” Seungwan motioned up and down, “that.” She finished with a laugh.

“It’s called duality Seungwan, I’m the best at it.”

“It’s called being a whipped bunny when you see your girlfriend,” Seulgi said as her head popped around the corner. “Now can you PLEASE bunny hop quicker so I can try some of your food?”

 Day 2: Hamster

October was always one of Seungwan’s favorite months. The changing of the leaves, the cooling of the air, and the final remnants of a humid summer making way for the breezy and fresh autumn feelings. There was nothing she didn’t love about this time of year, well except one.

Seungwan didn’t mind the cold, in fact, she rather enjoyed it. The cold reminded her of her years spent in Canada and all the memories she created there, the cold wasn’t the problem, it was what the cold air did to her cheeks that she hated. The cold air always made them puff out and turn red like a hamster.

Every morning, almost like an alarm, Seungwan would shoot out of bed promptly at 7:00 and bundle up in her favorite hoodie (which just so happened to be her girlfriend's) and headed out for her morning walk. Occasionally, Joohyun would join her to walk to the Han river and relax there for a while before they had to return to do schedules. Today was one of those days.

As they walked, bodies covered in layers and intertwined hands swinging between them, the cold breeze whipped at their cheeks turning them a pretty shade of pink.

“Can we stop by the cafe for some hot chocolate,” Joohyun spoke, breaking the peaceful silence that had engulfed them. “I need something to warm me up.”

“Am I not enough to warm you up?” Seungwan replied, putting her hand over her chest offended. “Is my love and mere presence a joke to you?” She finished, wiping pretend tears from her eyes with her free hand.

She watched as Joohyun rolled her eyes, letting out a quiet laugh, each puff of air being made visible by the cold. They locked eyes, and for a split second, Seungwan couldn’t help but just stare at her girlfriend. Joohyun was dressed in Seungwan’s oversized parka and cute pajamas peaked out from underneath it.

“I just figured those Hamster cheeks of yours could use some warming up.”

“Hey!,” Seungwan exclaimed. “They’re not that and red yet.”

Joohyun cocked her head and narrowed her eyes, leaning closer as if to examine the cheeks from a closer distance. Suddenly Seungwan felt a hand on the side of her face bringing her face closer to Joohyun’s. She felt a soft pair of lips kiss her on the cheeks.

“Now they are.”

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Day 3: Hot Chocolate

It had just passed midnight when the movie they were watching had finally ended. The snow outside had been falling in soft flurries at a steady pace all day and it only took Joohyun one quick glance out the window at the snow-covered streets to announce that under no circumstances was she stepping foot into the cold winter air today. Seungwan wasn’t particularly keen on going outside either, more cuddles for her and less red cheeks, so she didn’t complain.

Now, as night time finally arrived and the last burning embers of the fireplace crackled quietly in the background, the room started to get colder and colder much to Seungwan’s dislike. She didn’t mind the cold per se, the years in Canada turning her skin into something like a heating shield, but the slightly shivering figure of her girlfriend next to her did.

“Hyun?” Seungwan spoke out, her voice barely above a whisper.

The only response that came from the shivering bunny was a low grunt before she snuggled her way under the big bundle of blankets, only the top of her head being visible now. Seungwan chuckled at her girlfriend’s antics as she slowly took off her own blankets and got up to go to the kitchen. If one thing was gonna warm up a frozen Joohyun, it was a steaming mug of some signature Son Seungwan hot choco.

As she got to work heating the milk and using the burner on the stovetop to carefully roast the marshmallows, a soft grunt and some shuffling could be heard from the living room. She smiled to herself, Joohyun had always been so dramatic when it came to the cold weather (But it also made her more cuddly, so Seungwan couldn’t be mad).

Mixing her homemade cocoa mix into the warm milk and putting the finishing touches on the mugs, Seungwan made her way back to the couch only to be met by the cutest sight she had seen in a long time. With the lack of Seungwan’s body heat next to her, Joohyun must have taken the liberty to steal Seungwan’s blanket and cover herself with it, now only a tiny nose poking out.

“Baby, I made hot chocolate,” Seungwan said, setting the mug down and carefully slipping under the covers adjusting herself to have Joohyun lean on her. She waited a minute for a reply before carefully glancing down at the black-haired woman. Joohyun’s sleeping face always made her look younger, all the worry washed away instead being replaced by a face full of content.

As she sipped her hot chocolate she couldn’t help but smile softly. From Seungwan’s point of view, life just doesn’t get much better than this exact moment.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Day 4: Blanket

The rain hadn’t stopped all morning and neither had Joohyun’s tears. The feeling of complete isolation and fear ravaged her thoughts as she laid on the floor of the kitchen, unable to move.

Her day started off normal, Seungwan had schedules early in the morning so she woke up alone. Not that she was particularly upset about that. They had argued last night. A lot. Seungwan was ready to come out to the others but Joohyun just wasn't ready. After almost a whole year together, she still wasn't ready.

Her girlfriend, well maybe ex, had been bringing the topic up for a week now and it finally had struck a nerve last night. Joohyun, usually calm and composed, surprised even herself by finally snapping at the younger woman calling her clingy, needy, and the one she regrets the most annoying. Now annoying, to anyone else, wouldn't have been huge, but Seungwan had always been extremely self-conscious about herself and her personality so that one hit her the hardest and Joohyun knew that the second it came out of last night. Seungwan had dropped her gaze to the floor and quietly slid into bed, not muttering out another sound for the rest of the night.

After mulling over the events of the day prior, Joohyun got out of bed with Seungwan’s blanket wrapped around her shoulders, determined to make it up to her lover with a nice breakfast when she came back from her shoot. As she walked into the dorms kitchen, she the TV for some background noise as she cooked. The news popped on, and just as she was about to return to cooking, the screen flashed red with a breaking news update.

“Massive accident in downtown, 12 cars involved, one rumored to be Red Velvet Wendy’s. Story still developing, 5 known to be deceased.”

Joohyun’s blood ran cold. It was as if she couldn’t move and the faraway ringing in her ears started to get louder and louder. With a shaky hand she picked up her phone to call her girlfriend but it went straight to voicemail, something it never does. She couldn't breathe. She needed air. She needed something or someone to tell her that Seungwan was okay and that they'd be sleeping together that night too.

Tears started coming out of her eyes as she slowly sunk to the floor, body shaking, still covered in the blanket that smelled of coconut and Seungwan.

The screen flashed red again, and Joohyun buried herself deeper into the scent, her heart in pieces as she read the screen.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Day 5: Sleep (continuation from day 4)

Seungwan always prided herself on being a light sleeper. From evading the countless pranks that Sooyoung and Yeri would try to pull during trainee days to never missing her alarms to wake up for schedules, her ability to wake up and be alert in a split second has saved her from a lot of over the years.

The night before hadn't gone the best, not that any night has gone well for the past couple of weeks. Her relationship with Joohyun was getting rocky and with a comeback right around the corner, communication was limited. Going to bed with a heavy heart was never easy, but in typical Seungwan fashion, she decided to leave it be and fix it in the morning when they had both gotten some rest… or so she thought.

It had just gone 4 am when she was awoken by a sudden jolt in the bed next to her. Waiting for a second, delirious and exhausted Seungwan glanced at the clock next to her, shook her head, and turned over to go back to sleep. She was almost back in dreamland when suddenly another jolt shook the bed but this time followed by slight whimpers.

“Joohyun?” She breathed out, not wanting to frighten the girl if she was indeed awake. Her girlfriend continued to let out quiet little cries as her body started to shake more.

“Seungwan…. I …. No … where are… I love you … please no…” Joohyun let out a loud gasp as she suddenly shot up in bed, eyes wild and unfocused, hands hysterically grabbing at her hair and face. Seungwan followed her up and immediately pulled her lover closer to her and for a few minutes they sat there, Seungwan’s heart breaking with every soft whimper that slipped past Joohyun’s lips.

“Wanna talk about it?” Seungwan broke the bubble of silence that had covered them as Joohyun’s crying ceased. She felt the older woman shake her head against her chest before the weight was lifted and she was face to face with her girlfriend. Even like this, Joohyun looked beautiful. Tear tracks and eyes bloodshot, she was still the only one for Seungwan and as she stared into those deep and lovely eyes, the only things she could see were love and guilt. Seungwan leaned in to place a gentle kiss on her girlfriend's slightly parted lips. She could still taste the toothpaste off of Joohyun as they had just gone to bed not too long ago. Joohyun pulled away first, wiping off the last remnants of her tears.

“I had a bad dream,” she started, “we argued and then you went to your shoot and then I was cooking but then there was an accident and they couldn’t find out who was in it and then you-” Joohyun’ voice broke. “Can I just hold you… please?”

Seungwan just nodded, words could wait for the morning, as she turned around she felt Joohyun’s arms wrap around her waist from behind. They were far from perfect, they argued, they yelled, they hurt, but they were solid and they were there when it mattered. And with that thought of a better tomorrow, Seungwan drifted back to sleep.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Day 6: Jenga

Competitiveness had always been ingrained in Joohyun’s blood. From scaring Seulgi into letting her win every round of rock, paper, scissors, to screaming her head off during game days at the door, Bae Joohyun was a menace when she wanted to win.

Seungwan wishes she could say the same for herself. Sure, she was a bit competitive, playing sports and doing a lot of extracurriculars in school allowed her to develop a healthy amount of a competitive drive, but if anyone compared her to her game-loving girlfriend, they'd say Seungwan is the least competitive human on the planet.

“See watch this Seungwan,” Joohyun said, narrowing her eyes and carefully removing a block at the very bottom. “This is called skilled Son Seungwan, are you looking?”

Realistically, Seungwan could see that there was definitely a way she could easily win the game in her next move, but she also wanted to go get food after this round and if Joohyun lost, they’d be here for the next hour playing so Joohyun could get a winning streak back. Then again, winning always felt good.

“Hyun, if I wanted to, I could win right here right now,” Seungwan boasted. “All I have to do is pull this little piece right here, and you wouldn’t stand a chance.” This was her chance. Tapping lightly at the block to get it loose, Seungwan grabbed the end of the Jenga block and began wiggling it out. With bated breath, she slid it out easily. All she had to do now was place it at the top and-

Bam. Bam. Bam. Bam. Bam. Bam. Bam.

Just as she was about to complete her round, the tower of blocks came crashing down, leaving a wide-eyed Seungwan holding the clock in mid-air.

“Your face!” Joohyun exclaimed, throwing her head back and letting that youthful unabated laugh out, the one Seungwan loved. “I won, I won! This is what you get for getting cocky Son Seungwan!”

Seungwan watched as Joohyun got up and began bouncing around the kitchen, laughing and whooping as if she had just won the lottery. Maybe Seungwan didn’t mind losing, because who could even call it losing when she gets to watch the love of her life jump around with an aura of pure happiness?

If this was what losing felt like, winning never mattered less.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Day 7: Stare

Joohyun always knew she had a problem. Well, to her it wasn’t a problem at least. She hadn’t even really noticed it until one day about a month ago when Seungwan was out of the dorm, the other members called an emergency meeting for her.

“You have a problem, and this-” Yeri gestured around to the 4 of them sitting in a circle- “ is your intervention”

Of course, back then Joohyun had no idea what they were talking about, even these days she hardly notices when she does it. After the so-called “intervention” the members had placed a bet to see how many times they could catch Joohyun indulging in her little bad habit.

“Whoever catches you the most times gets to skip chores for a week” Joy had said, adamant to win.

Joohyun really didn’t get all the hassle behind this, what harm could admiring Seungwan really bring?

“It’s called staring Hyun, and you’re doing it again,” Joy said as she plopped down next to Joohyun at the kitchen table.“And before you ask, you were thinking out loud again.”

Joohyun, stubborn as ever, was about to refute that she was staring but before she could even utter a word, the younger woman whipped out her phone and showed her the picture she had just taken.

On the screen, Joohyun had her legs crossed over one another as she rested her elbows on her thighs. She was bent over slightly and held her face in her hands as she sat at the table staring at Seungwan as she cooked. Not only was she just staring, but the love-struck look of awe that she had plastered on her face was so sickening that even Joohyun winced at it.

“Yeah I know, imagine how tired we are,” Joy muttered.

“Food is almost ready!” Seungwan happily sang out before grabbing the pan she was using. She looked so gorgeous like this, Joohyun thought to herself. Her short brown hair was let down and pushed back behind her ears and the shirt she was wearing outlined her toned figure perfectly.

She vaguely registers hearing Joy mumble something like “here she goes again” but she didn’t care to listen, she was too busy staring.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Day 8: Sweat

Ever since all the way back during her trainee days, Seungwan has hated the fact that her palms get sweaty when she was nervous. The mic would be slightly slippery, floor choreography where she had to prop herself up would be more difficult, and worst of all, holding her girlfriend’s hand was nearly impossible without feeling subconscious.

Obviously, over time the problem had gotten better, Seungwan no longer felt like she was gonna throw up from the butterflies in her stomach whenever she was around Joohyun, but better didn’t mean it was 100 percent gone and over with.

They were walking along the side of the Han river after having dinner at their dorm. The weather was perfect, cold enough for a long sleeve shirt but warm enough to not have to bundle up in an oversized coat. As they walked, intertwined hands swinging slightly between them, Joohyun recalled her whole day of shooting for her movie up until meeting with Seunngwan for dinner. Time spent together had been scarce the past couple of weeks because of their busy schedules, but they still made sure to make time for one another.

“I’ve missed you lately,” Joohyun suddenly shifted topics. “I know you aren’t busy tomorrow and I’m not either so… I was thinking we could spend some time together? Some alone time...” She trailed off, winking suggestively at Seungwan.

Now let’s just get one thing straight, Seungwan wasn’t easy to make nervous anymore. Years of interviews and performances steeled her nerves from overreacting. Unfortunately, none of those ever prepared her for staring into the very suggestive and seductive eyes of Bae Joohyun. She could feel her palms start to get sweaty as she giggled nervously under the sharp gaze.

“Yeah! Of course Hyun I’d love to,” Seungwan answered, trying her best to keep her voice level.

Joohyun laughed at the poor attempt and quickly squeezed the intertwined hands. “I still love that I can tell that I make you nervous, the sweaty and clammy palms always give you away Wan.” She raised the hands up and lightly kissed the back of each knuckle.

“I love you,” Seungwan mumbled out as they began to walk home.

“I love you too, even if you have sweaty hands.”

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Day 9: Bickering

Joohyun and Seungwan had always bickered; you could ask anyone that knew both of them and they would agree. It was never anything serious either, Joohyun would get “mad” at Seungwan for pressing her cold feet against her legs or Seungwan would pretend to be annoyed at Joohyun for giving her a nice pat in public. At the end of the day, they’d both laugh it off together enveloped in each other's arms as they fell asleep content and in love. They had always been like this, so when did minor bickering change to full-blown arguments?

Putting her keys into the bowl by the door, Joohyun was expecting to be met with a dark and silent dorm. It had just passed three am when she returned from dinner with a couple of her friends so she was surprised to hear the tv silently playing in the living room. As she passed through the hallway and peeked around the corner, a small smile bloomed on her face when she saw her girlfriend sitting watching a cooking show. She was a few feet away from the couch when Seungwan’s voice broke the peaceful barrier.

“You’re home late,” the ice dripping from the tone of voice made Joohyun shiver. Glancing at the younger woman’s face, she was met with dark and stormy eyes already staring back at her. Confused and too tired to ask, Joohyun sunk down onto the couch ready to learn on the brunette when the second her skin touched Seungwan, the other woman got up and glared at her.

“Is there something wrong Wannie?” Joohyun’s voice was small and quiet.

“I don’t know, is there something wrong Joohyun?” Seungwan bit back, voice rising slightly as she narrowed her eyes. “Last time I checked, when you plan a night in with your girlfriend after WEEKS, you should actually ing show up.”

Night in? Had they planned something? Suddenly, realization flooded Joohyun’s features, she had promised Seungwan that they’d make dinner together. Weeks of busy schedules were supposed to be put on hold tonight just for them. As her stomach sunk into her stomach and she could feel her blood grow cold in her veins, she got up on wobbly legs to try and reach for Seungwan.

“No,” Seungwan lashed out. “I ask for one, just one ing night, and as your girlfriend, I can’t even get that without it slipping your mind? That’s pathetic Joohyun and you know it.”

Words all jumbled in Joohyun’s head as she tried to say something.

“Save it. I think this just shows how much you care about us. Don’t you dare follow me into my room, I don't let strangers in there anyway.” Seungwan said, walking away with the beginnings of tears visible in her eyes.

As Joohyun tried to follow she bumped into the table and the vase with roses fell, shattering into pieces. These were the roses she had gotten for Seungwan as an apology for not being there. As she sunk down to her knees with tears streaming down her face, the vase next to her lay broken and leaking water, one rose already beginning to wilt while the other one was already dead.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Day 10: kitchen (a continuation from day 9)

“Thanks for the dinner Seungwan, I’d stay and help but I have to go meet up with friends!”

“Thank Wan, gotta go!” Joy yelled over her shoulder as she followed Yerim out the kitchen and through the front door.

And then there were two, Joohyun thought to herself. They had just gotten done eating a delicious dinner that Seungwan had cooked and just as they had finished, the two youngest had bolted from the dorm to avoid helping with the dishes.

“I wish Seulgi was here, she’s always easy to guilt into doing the dishes,” Seungwan said, getting up and grabbing the dish soap from the cupboard. That’s true, Seulgi was always the innocent one, willing to help anyone even if she didn’t want to. Pure, untarnished, goodwill. Getting up to follow the younger woman who was already soaping up the dishes, Joohyun grabbed the nearest drying cloth as a smile bloomed on her face.

“She may be easy to guilt, but I'm always here for you Wannie,” Joohyun laughed, running her fingers through Seungwan’s hair before tying them back in a ponytail. “I’ll always be here for you…”

Joohyun smiled to herself at the memory, Seungwan and her had always had this unspoken air of harmony around them. One wash, one dried a perfect duo. She always loved what they had.
She couldn’t believe that she had just carelessly thrown away everything that they had over one missed dinner. But who was she kidding, her neglect and carelessness over the past couple weeks had all boiled down to this, a broken vase and two broken hearts.

Now she was alone in the same kitchen, washing her hands after picking up the countless shards of the vase she had broken. As she looked over to grab something to dry her hands, she grabbed the same cloth that she had gotten Seungwan as a small joke gift.

“Joohyun and Seungwan Washing Buddies Forever”

Maybe forever had just come to an end.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Day 11: Hug

A couple of weeks after their… breakup? (Joohyun didn’t even know what to call it at this point, Seungwan had been avoiding her like the plague so talking about where they stood was borderline impossible) the girls all stood in front of the press and fans at the airport ready to jet off to Japan for a couple of photoshoots and fan meetups. The weather wasn’t particularly warm, it was god damn freezing but Joohyun had opted for only a long trench coat over her outfit, and all the standing around was chilling her down to the bone.

After a solid twenty minutes or so of just standing in place to get their pictures taken, they were ushered through the airport quickly to get to their flight. As they stood around once again waiting for their passports and bags to get checked by the airport personnel, Joohyun couldn’t help but start to shiver slightly. After standing in the cold outside for so long, her coat offered little to no help now even though she was back in the warmth of the airport.

Shivering slightly as she grabbed her passport back, Joohyun quickly made her way over to the rest of the members and their staff as they walked (Joohyun hopped to try and get warm) towards security. Seulgi, Joy, and Yeri were all huddled together in the line in front of her, but before she could join the group hug, Joohyun felt a  hand gently turn her around before she was pulled into a familiar warm embrace.

Just like magic, the hug warmed her instantly and within a couple of seconds, she stopped shivering. A delicate hand was slowly rubbing up and down her back as she buried herself further into Seungwan’s arms. After weeks of not being able to get close enough to her, Joohyun was finally able to envelope herself in the familiar scent of coconut and vanilla body wash that the younger woman sometimes stole from her bathroom.

As the line progressed forward, Joohyun remained embedded in the shorter woman’s embrace right up to the moment that they had to separate for the security check. When she pulled away gently, Seungwan offered her a warm smile before slipping through the metal detector archway.

Already missing the warmth, Joohyun hurried to put her bag on the conveyor belt before she too stepped through the machine and waited for it to circle around her. Grabbing her bag back, she hurried after Seungwan hoping she would be welcomed back into the embrace she had loved being in for years.

Even if they weren’t back to talking, Joohyun thought to herself, a hug was definitely a good start.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Day 12: water bottle

About a week had passed since the warm hug at the airport. Consequently, about a week had also passed since Joohyun last got to be within 2 feet of Seungwan without it being forced during a photoshoot or interview. The trip to Japan had failed to give her the opportunity to get closer to her girlfriend (yes, Joohyun was saying girlfriend, she’d be damned if she let the love of her life get away) and now, back in Seoul, nothing had changed Seungwan was still being cold and distant.

Joohyun was woken up by her alarm at 5 am that morning as Red Velvet was scheduled to make an appearance at a radio show to push their latest activities. With sleep heavy eyes, she got up and made her way down the hall towards the bathroom, bumping into a disheveled Seulgi on the way. Quickly getting ready with some light makeup and grabbing a protein bar from Yeri’s stash in the kitchen, the five girls piled into the van and set off towards the radio station.

So far, the interview was going well, some basic questions about comeback rumors and random dating advice sprinkled here and there, nothing special, but not that Joohyun was paying much attention anyway. The radio station had assigned them seats before they had gotten there and to her of luck, Joohyun was seated right next to Seungwan. Throughout the whole interview, when the host was focused on asking the other members questions, Joohyun would lean in slightly to Seungwan’s side to “hear them better” but in reality, Joohyun just missed the warm presence of the girl next to her.

They were now at the section of the interview when the host would take a bunch of fan questions and ask the members at random. One question, meant for Yeri about how to best take care of a Seungwan (like how to care for a plant), had caught her interest and before she could stop herself, she was answering it with a grin on her face.

“If the question is about how to best take care of a Seungwan, then I can answer that better than our resident baby,” Joohyun said, already feeling Seungwan’s gaze on her side profile. “You have to pay attention to your Seungwan, make sure to listen when she talks. You have to spend time with your Seungwan, it’s a necessity don’t forget it. And most importantly,” Joohyun leaned to grab a water bottle from the desk, “Don’t forget to water your Seungwan!”

As everyone laughed at Seungwan’s surprised expression, Joohyun let out a breath of relief. In an indirect way, she tried to apologize to her partner and she hoped Seungwan got it.

As the interview continued on, she felt a piece of paper slip into her hand and as she read it she couldn't help but smile.

“Let’s talk, I miss you - Wannie”

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Day 13: Seaweed Soup

After the interview at the radio show, the girls were lucky enough that the rest of the day was clear of schedules so, at around noon, one by one they all filed into the dorm. Joohyun, after checking if anyone had forgotten anything in the van, walked in last and watched as the two youngest members shuffled away into their rooms like zombies. Joohyun knew that Yerim had stayed up late doing an Instagram live and Sooyoung… well, Sooyoung just liked being in her master bedroom where she could lay in the sun streaming in from her windows.

As she set her coat down and slipped on a pair of slippers, Joohyun could hear faint whispering coming from the kitchen. The whispers grew louder by the second before she could hear what she thought was Seulgi’s voice, yell something that Joohyun, through her sleep-deprived brain, couldn't decipher. The silence that followed the sudden outburst pushed Joohyun to finally enter the kitchen and find Seulgi and Seungwan aggressively staring at each other like a pair of 4-year-olds fighting over the last pack of gum.

Clearing audibly to let them know she was there, Joohyun walked forward and stepped fully past the threshold of the room. Seulgi was first to break eye contact, eyes widening at Joohyun’s presence. It only took the girl a single glance between Joohyun and Seungwan to bow her head and quickly scurry out of the room, probably to tell the other members what was about to happen. For a few moments there was a tense silence between the couple, neither wanting to be the first to start talking about what had to be discussed.

Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, Joohyun heard Seungwan huff as she moved closer to the fridge and opened it. “Do you wanna make something together? We always seem to talk better that way…” Seungwan said, grabbing the leftover rice from the fridge.

Joohyun smiled to herself. Seungwan was never the best at dealing with the fixing process after arguments but cooking had always been a way that the two worked in harmony while simultaneously spending time together and healing. The last time that they cooked together to fix an issue between them was around Yeri’s birthday. Seungwan had misplaced a pair of Joohyun’s favorite shoes and so as a way to try and get her apology across, the two had cooked Yerim seaweed soup and in the process got over the bump in their relationship.

Grabbing the apron from the hanger, Joohyun gently padded over to stand beside her girlfriend and offered the younger girl a shy smile which was quickly reciprocated. After the past couple of weeks of not talking much, Joohyun was ready to fix up something to eat while simultaneously fixing the crack she had created between them.

Day 14: Carrot cake

A couple of days after cooking with Joohyun and getting back together (not that they were ever broken up just “dating from afar” as Seungwan called it), Seungwan had finally moved her pillow back into the older woman’s room. For the first time in about a month, she was so excited to finally get the well-deserved rest that she needed for the upcoming week of schedules… or so she thought.

With Joohyun sleeping peacefully beside her, Seungwan glared at the ceiling above them silently cursing out whatever was in charge of making her brain turn off. It must have been her 30th round of counting sheep when she finally realized that sleep wasn't going to come to her anytime soon. With a resigned huff and a pout placed on her lips, Seungwan gently threw her feet over the edge of the bed, grabbed her hoodie, and quietly slipped out of the room letting Joohyun slumber on.

2:30 am was a weird time in the world. Sometimes, when she awoke at this time to go to the bathroom or something, she could still hear Yerim doing a late-night Q and A or Sooyoung would still be up in the living room watching a new drama. Tonight, however, the dorm was dark and silent with the only light streaming in from outside. As she tiptoed into the kitchen, Seungwan the lights and grabbed her baby blue apron from the door. If life wasn’t going to let her sleep, at least she would be productive and bake something for the girls to have for breakfast. Grabbing the flour and the sugar from the cupboard, a cupboard that she totally didn’t need a stool to reach, Seungwan started making one of her favorite desserts: Carrot cake.

Before she knew it, Seungwan was putting the finishing sprinkles of cinnamon into the batter, pouring it into the mold, and popping the cake into the oven. Somewhere in the middle of her baking she had grabbed her headphones and started listening to music to try and pass the time. She was about to turn around to go watch some TV while she waited when a pair of slender arms wrapped around her waist followed by a head gently resting against her shoulder. The ever so familiar scent of her girlfriend filled her senses as she leaned back into the hug.

“I woke up, and the bed was cold,” Joohyun mumbled into her shoulder. “I thought you were gonna come back but then I heard a pot in the kitchen.”

Wiggling around in the hug until she was face to face with the slightly taller woman, Seungwan placed a quick peck on the other girl's nose. “I would have come back, just after baking. Why did you come here Hyun,” Seungwan whispered tenderly as she brushed through the other girl's hair.

“I missed you…”

Now, Seungwan knew she was a pretty soft person. She’s known to be the softie in red velvet but, seeing THE Bae Joohyun wrapped in her blanket with a sleepy pout on her lips is enough to melt her heart into a puddle of flowers and rainbows.
Joohyun’s eyes began to droop ever so slightly signifying how truly tired the girl was, so Seungwan carefully dragged them over to the couch where she lay down next to her lover. Within seconds, Joohyun was out like a light and Seungwan quickly followed, forgetting about the carrot cake in the oven.
