The fanfiction they're reading in this story exists. It is called Purr for Me, written by my friend Miliontears and can be found on AO3. I highly recommend reading it. The story may not make much sense without having read it although I include excerpts from it that will explain their dialogue. Plus it's just a damn good MewGulf fanfiction.
