Imagine
Stolen Moments“Are you sure?” he asked, fine hairs away from her face. His face inches away from her own, her bedroom lamp cast a warm glow on Yonghwa’s as he gazed at her anxiously. “What about your unnies? Did you talk with them about this?”
Seohyun tangled her legs with his under the light blanket, toeing his hairy shin thoughtfully. “I did,” she replied softly. “If I leave, they said they’d understand. It… made them think about what they want, too.” Glancing up, she found him biting his bottom lip in worry, so she smiled and tried to alleviate the situation. “I wouldn’t be leaving Sonyeo Shidae. I just… I want more say in my opportunities.” She her lips. “I want to be able to choose what I take part in, you know?”
More than anyone, he knew that while at SM, she often felt trapped, boxed in, mostly unable to make her own decisions regarding her music or acting. She’d find out about missed acting opportunities, songs she wrote would be nixed without explanation, she had to rely mostly on Yonghwa to teach her the guitar and on her mother to continue teaching her the piano, and so much more. SM had cast her as a dancing and singing girl group member and wanted to keep her in her mould; she continuously tried to break out of it, and it was starting to take its toll. He felt it in every frustrated text tirade she shot at him after meetings with her management.
When he’d asked her to fill in the lyrics for their Banmal Song duet years ago, he’d literally yanked open a door and made her discover her love for songwriting. When he’d taught her her first guitar chords, she’d enjoyed learning a new instrument even though she lacked the time to practice.
It was with him that she wrote songs. With him that she practiced the guitar. With her mother that she practiced the piano. At home that she watched dramas and musicals and envisioned herself in them. At school that she learned how to act. It was only recently that her agency allowed her to pursue her acting and songwriting, but even then they strained her opportunities and decided which ones were off
