Streetlights were misty in the heavy snowfall. Ice gently blanketed the sidewalks and streets. The milky moon was an ornament hung in the midnight sky. The snowflakes danced and pranced in the cold air. Wendy loved winter. She loved the hot chocolate with marshmallows melting into the whipped cream, snuggling up with candles burning, blankets draped over her, and most of all a brilliant book. She loved the anticipation of snow, and the happiness it brought. She loved the rain, whether it was heavy or light. She loved the big jumpers and hot homemade soups that burned her tongue. Outside, the snow was falling harder. Kids trotted inside to snuggle with their parents. Wendy and Irene watched a movie in silence at Wendy's house.

“Hey, Wendy?” Irene asked.

“Hmm?" Wendy turned her attention at her friend.

“Maybe some time this weekend, we could go skiing?"

Wendy nodded excitedly, “Sure! It'll be fun!" Irene smiled and scooted closer to her. Wendy could feel her body warming up, and her face turning red. The older woman placed one of her hands on Wendy’s and the latter slightly panicked. Her skin tingled where Irene touched her and her heart beat erratically in her chest; so hard that Wendy thought it might fly out.

“I'll go get us something to eat!” She quickly blurted out. And with that, she scurried into the kitchen. This woman was making her mind go crazy. She took a few minutes to calm her beating heart. Her long time crush was right outside, waiting for her. Actually, 'crush' was such an infantile word, one that must have been invented by older folks, the ones with an interest in belittling young love. Wendy hated it. She didn't have a crush on Irene; she loved her with a passion hotter than a thousand suns. She was the one. Wendy knew it. She was all that was in her mind; she was her true north, her everything. One day she'd find a way to talk to her, tell her how she felt, and then she could finally stop hiding her emotions.

She returned with a plate full of strawberries, with chocolate drizzled on them. When she walked into the room, Irene’s face instantly lit up. She eyed the strawberries with interest.

“Strawberries?"

“Yeah, I thought we could share them,” Wendy smiled.

"I love strawberries!” She said excitedly as Wendy popped a plump, juicy, chocolate covered strawberry in .

"Enjoy,” Wendy placed the plate between them. Irene reached for one. Wendy happened to be reaching for the same one, and their fingertips touched.

“Oh! Sorry!” Wendy blurted out, and swiped her hand away. Irene, on the other hand, picked up the strawberry, and popped it into Wendy’s mouth.

“Chew,” she commanded. Wendy did as she was told. They ate in silence, paying attention to the movie. Wendy couldn’t help but steal a few glances at Irene during the movie; her cheeks looked so fluffy as she chewed.

Soon, the movie ended and Irene heaved a sigh. “Wendy...” She said in a small voice. Wendy raised an eyebrow. Irene pouted and placed her hands in Wendy’s lap. Another eyebrow was raised in question as Irene tried to stifle a giggle before making her voice sound high and whining.

“Wannie, can you make me some hot chocolate, please? You make it much better than anyone else.”

So it was hot chocolate that the little bunny was craving for, huh? All right. Wendy might as well be the nice woman that she is and go make her precious friend a cup. She walked into the kitchen with a smiling woman behind her.

Irene stood near the kitchen table, watching as she began taking out the needed items to make the delicious beverage on the cold winter's day. Wendy turned her head to glance at the excited woman over her shoulder and couldn't help but chuckle. She looked like an innocent child, rather than an elegant and usually mature woman, waiting for her reward upon doing something good. She turned back to what she had been doing before and continued, mixing the hot chocolate mix and milk together. Honestly, what she was doing was nothing special. Why did Irene like it when she made it?

It didn't take long for Wendy to finish making the warm beverage. She picked out a cute mug and gently poured the drink in from the steaming teapot and let it sit on the counter. Irene made a move to retrieve it but Wendy placed a hand on Irene’s own eager one, shaking her head lightly.

"It's too hot. Let it cool for a few minutes."

She always told her this when she made hot chocolate for her. And again, Wendy received the same playful pout that emerged on the older woman’s face.

"Okay…"

A couple of unnerved minutes passed before Wendy nodded towards the
