At the court room.  They were standing toe to toe, head to head. Taeyeon and Jessica frowning at each other, heat waves coming from their bodies, noses flaring, they looked very much like they were going to pounce on each other any moment.  The judge sighed and just managed to avoid pinching the bridge of her nose. “Ms. Kim, Ms. Jung,” she said, drawing out the last syllables of their last names with an exaggerated sigh. "We’ll take a fifteen minute recess. You girls should cool yourselves off before resuming to the case." The judge said.  Taeyeon finally stepped back and rolled her eyes at her opponent, the latter responded with a smirk. ~~~ Accurately, thirteen minutes later. Jessica was buttoning her blouse when the door to Kim Taeyeon's office swung open. She jumped, her hand covering the top buttons she’d yet to reach, then calmed when she realized who it was. “You scared me,” Jessica whispered, staring at Yoona with her resting face, then breaking into a sneaky grin.  Yoona rolled her eyes, holding out a stack of papers. “Your break is over in two minutes. And your clients are already asking for you both." She said, narrowing her eyes at Taeyeon, who was standing behind Jessica and fixing her tie. “People are going to figure you two out one day, with the way you guys go at it with every opportune break, while you let them believe you guys are enemies." Jessica shrugged with a smirk, combing her long, dark hair through with her free hand before quickly putting it back into the ponytail it was styled with earlier. “Look good?” she asked, raising her perfect eyebrows at her secretary. “Of course,” Yoona said, her tone sarcastic. Jessica grinned again, taking the papers from her and turning at the door. “See you tonight?” She asked Taeyeon, who nodded with a lazy smile on her face.  Yoona wasn’t sure how or why she had become the only person in the world to know about their secret dating life, but she wasn’t sure she liked it.  Yoona and Taeyeon were left alone, and Taeyeon adjusted her suit coat a final time. “Inform my clients I'll be with them shortly.” “I could tell Yuri why Jessica is here every afternoon,” Yoona offered instead, and Taeyeon rolled her eyes. Her secretary, Yuri, thought Jessica was in her office to discuss cases. Not for - more amorous reasons. “You wouldn’t,” Taeyeon replied coolly. She had no way of knowing this, but she knew Yoona felt some loyalty towards Jessica after being under her employment for the past year. The taller woman nodded, stopping by the door. “I sometimes think Jessica wants to be caught.” Yoona said. Now that was an interesting notion indeed. ~~~ For a long time, Kim Taeyeon had been the only efficient female lawyer in Jeonju. Given that she’d lived there her whole life, it made sense for her to return where her roots were, after graduating from law school. She knew most of the citizens well enough that they could settle things out of court. She wouldn’t say she was liked though, but she did her job and that was what mattered. Taeyeon knew she could be harsh and direct, but that’s what makes a good lawyer.  For as long as she could remember, the office space next to hers had been empty. That was, until Blanc and Eclare Law firm sent a lawyer into town.  Taeyeon had been operating independently, and doing it well. This person, this new lawyer, came with an agenda from Seoul that surely just wanted to scrape the citizens of their money. She was certain of it. Taeyeon was ready to fight tooth and nail to get corporations like Blanc and Eclare out of Jeonju.  What she didn’t expect was their lawyer to be hot and extremely beautiful. A little younger than her and freshly out of law school, not to mention smart as hell. Quick-witted and charming, immediately likeable. Beautiful in every sense of the word. She didn’t dress dully like the rest of the female lawyers she'd been acquainted with, always in sharp dresses or pantsuits that were somehow flattering on her. She had long, brown hair that contrasted her eyes well. Jessica managed to always be wearing high heels that clipped with authority in the courtroom or around the office, the reason why she's always looking inches taller than her when they went toe to toe. Their facing off happened more often than not. She took on a landmark case in Jeonju history, the issue of what land on the beach belonged to Go Jun Pyo, the resident most popular fisherman, and what belong to the city. She was fighting for the mayor who just happened to be the son of the head lawyer at Blanc and Eclare. The case had favoritism all over it, but Jessica hit the books and every town charter she could get her hands on. The judge, of course sided with Jessica. She won. It was Taeyeon's first loss in years, and her overall numbers took a significant hit.  One night, a few weeks later, she found herself sitting next to Jessica at the Soshi bar. It was Friday night, and almost everyone was almost drunk. Jessica was focused on her phone, and Taeyeon felt awkward as she motioned for another drink from the bartender. “Always working?” Taeyeon said in a low voice, wondering if she would even hear her. Jessica glanced over at her, setting her phone down. “Not work. E-mailing relatives in America.” “America?” she asked, like an idiot. Of course she’d noticed her fluent accent when ever she spoke in English. Jessica tucked her hair behind her ear, nodding and pursing her lips. “Yeah. My family were the first to come over here. My sister - my little sister just had a baby and I can’t afford the trip over.” “Oh,” Taeyeon said, not sure how else to reply. “I’m sorry.”  Jessica shrugged. “It’s fine. So I’m just at this lovely establishment on a Friday night,” Jessica returned, sarcasm dripping from her voice, “drinking my sorrows away. Isn’t that what you’re doing?” “So you are not only a Lawyer, but also a psychiatrist?” Taeyeon said, faux-scoffing at her. “I suppose I’m just drinking because there’s a kickass new lawyer in town who’s running me out of a job.” Jessica looked surprise, and she couldn’t believe Taeyeon had said that. “Out of a job?”  Taeyeon motioned around the smoky bar. “Not many people in this town, and you keep winning cases.” “You pretty much won the Lee family divorce case,” she pointed out. “And you got that pharmacist paid leave for a traumatic fall due to narcolepsy.” Taeyeon shrugged, taking a sip of her drink. “But the people of this town like you more.” “It’s because I’m new. It makes me interesting. They’ll lose interest and choose what they know over what they don’t soon enough.” “You sound like you speak from experience.” “Just a guess,” Jessica said, swirling her pink straw around her drink. “I’m here alone, aren’t I? It’s tricky to make friends when you’re the new kid.” “I’d be your friend,” Taeyeon blurted without thinking twice, “If I hadn’t decided we’re already sworn enemies.”  Taeyeon began to laugh, and Jessica discovered the hot and cute lawyer laughed like an ajumma. Taeyeon's laugh made her laugh too, and she was wiping the corners of her eyes from tears when Taeyeon stopped laughing. “Oh God,” Jessica said, “That was the hardest I’ve laughed in forever. Thank you. It’s a shame we have to be enemies.” “It really is,” Taeyeon said. It was also a shame she was only talking to he
