Chapter 1

Lifesaver

It was a dark and cold day; the atmosphere almost made it seem like the weather was feeling sympathetic of the current event.

A funeral.

Kwon Jun Ho, one of the biggest businessman in South Korea “a man of steel” as people usually cataloged him because of his characteristic cold demeanor, couldn’t help but cry bitter tears as he bids goodbye to his precious long time friend Wen Yifeng. He was not only his personal bodyguard and right hand but also his best friend, the one man who he trusted blindly; he still couldn’t believe how Yifeng could offered his life in order to protect him.

The Kwon family owns the biggest electronics company ever established in South Korea, ‘The Kwon Corporations’. Over generations the company grew up to be ranked number in Asia and third worldwide. They held huge power and success which automatically made them the target of malicious people trying their best to destroy their empire in any way possible. For that exact reason, every heir in line and their families had a well trained squad of bodyguards assigned to them, having as a main priority their protection and safety, each family member having the head of the squad designated as their personal bodyguard.

And that’s how Jun Ho met Yifeng when they were 8 years old. Yifeng was the son of his father’s bodyguard. Over the time it became an unwritten law that the son of a main family member’s bodyguard would be trained at the best military schools in order to become the future bodyguard of that family’s member son or daughter. Yifeng was the fourth in line from the Wen family to work for the Kwons and so he was assigned as Jun Ho’s personal bodyguard. Since they met as children they instantly became friends and pretty much grew up together sharing each other’s happiness, sadness and secrets.

Secrets.

He remembers vividly how things happened that day. 3 months ago Jun Ho started to receive threats warning him of how “revenge was on it’s way to get him” or at least that’s what he assumed since the threats started to appear in the form of packages containing a single piece of paper with the written words: “What’s goes around, comes around and the clock it’s ticking Jun Ho-ya”. No matter the amount of packages, instead of freaking out he completely ignore them. It wouldn’t be the first time that him or his family were victims of this type of stupid threats for one simple reason, money. So that one day, another package arrived and per usual he didn’t pay attention to the meaningless threat, he didn’t care about the past trying to “come and get him”. He knew that the only person that could link him back to it was already dead so he was sure he didn’t needed to worry. Those dark times were left behind and now he just simply had better things to do, like running a multibillion dollar empire for example. He buried this past as his deepest secret the day his father died and pleaded him to comeback and take care of the company. He also had Yifeng who he entrusted his life to, so worrying would’ve been a complete waste of time.

Oh, if he only knew how careless and selfish he was being. If he only knew how Yifeng was right every time he told him to be careful and aware, he wouldn’t be here being pierced to death with guilt knowing that he was the reason why his precious friend was shot in the chest to death for trying to help him escape the attack they received on the street in broad daylight, and he couldn’t help but feel even more heartbroken and guilty as he sees a ten year old boy crying his eyes out witnessing his father being buried 6 feet under.

Wen Junhui, Yifeng’s precious son.
