Chapter Two

Your Presence

MARK

I came to Jeju almost a week ago and spent my first day here touring to several places. My job is a photographer. But I didn't come to work this time. Honestly, the reason I came here is just to find a new atmosphere or maybe new inspiration while taking a break from my busy life in LA.

On the second day after touring the island I decided to edit the results of my shots yesterday while replying to emails relating to my work in LA. That's what made me decided to stop at a small café with shades of white on the edge of the city center. A woman my age greeted me when I opened the door. Her hair is blond but her face is very Asian. She looks cute.

Not wanting to drown further looking at that face, I immediately turned my face to the beautifully decorated cake on the display. After ordering I immediately chose to sit near the window. The view of Jeju looks very pretty from the window of this café.

The following days I decided to keep coming to the café. Not only because of the good view, also the atmosphere of this café feels very quite. Actually I don't really like crowds.

On the fifth day, I decided to return to the café again and for the first time, the woman talked more to me. There was a tickling feeling in my stomach. Slightly thumping. Unlike my usual self. For a moment I thought maybe it just because she is a beautiful woman. Hey, who doesn't flutter when a beautiful women talk to you, right? But apparently that feeling was not as simple as I thought.

"This is your order." she took my order to where I was sitting.

"Are you busy?" I asked quickly before she left.

From her eyes, she looked a little surprised by my spontaneous question. "I guess not," she answered after seeing that there were no customers to serve. "Why?"

"I have a few questions. I just thought maybe you could help." I answered. "Only if you don't mind."

"Of course not." she replied with a smile.

She then sat in front of me. I instantly forced my brain to work quickly to find excuses. To be honest, I didn't have questions, it was just an excuse to talk longer with her. Really this is unlike my usual self.

"What should I call you?" I asked.

"Ah right, we haven't introduced ourselves to each other yet. I'm Myoui Mina." she extended her hand to me and we shook hands.

"Mark Tuan." I introduced my name. "Are there any Myoui family names in Korea?" I asked curiously.

"Oh, I actually came from Japan. It's not so long after I moved here. "

"Your Korean is also good."

She laughed at my words, remembering what she said to me before.

"I learned it since I was little," she explained. "So what do you want to ask?" she continued.

"Can you recommend a place for me? I work as a photographer and it seems like I need recommendations on good places here to take pictures. ” I praise my own brilliant brain in finding excuses. At least that reason doesn't sound too bad.

That's how our conversation began. Yes, that's just the beginning. After that, we talked more often. Of course, because I still always come to her café and when I come she will sit with me when she is not busy serving her customers. And I think I like her presence around me.
