Must Have Been The Wind

Must Have Been The Wind

Must Have Been The Wind

Miyeon POV

I heard a glass shatter on the wall in the apartment above mine. How unfortunate for the owner I thought to myself, but things break all the time, don’t they? I went to the kitchen as I wanted to grab a glass of water before going to bed. When I took a sip, I noticed something shatter again. I couldn’t help but wonder what was going on up there. I tried to ignore it and made my way towards my bedroom but then I heard the voice of a girl and it sounded like she'd been crying. Now I'm too worried to be sleeping. I am normally not much of a nosy person and I have never met the person upstairs before but something in me told me that I should go and check up on her. Just in case.

So, I decided to take the elevator to the second floor and walked down the hall and then I knocked on her door. When she opened it I was left in awe. I really didn’t expect to see someone this pretty. She was a little taller than me. Black hair but some parts of her bangs are dyed in a light pink which made her look even cuter. She wore a plain sweater and a pair of shorts. Realizing that I was starring a little bit for too long I broke the silence “Hey, I am Cho Miyeon. I live downstairs. So, we are neighbors.” I smiled at her before continuing “Is everything alright? I couldn’t help but noticed the sound of shattering glass.” I left out the part of her crying. I didn’t want to get to personal since we don’t really know each other yet.

“Hey Miyeon from downstairs. I’m Kim Minnie.” She answered giving me a small smile. I looked at her concerned, her eyes were still red from all the crying. But then she said, “I think your ears are playing tricks on you.” Her sweater zipped up to her chin. “Thanks for caring that's nice of you but I have to go back in. I wish I could tell you about the noise, but I didn't hear a thing.” She continued, “It must have been the wind.”

She then closed the door after wishing me a good night. I went back to my apartment. When I arrived, I sank into my bed. But I’d keep thinking about her till my body drove me to sleep.

THE NEXT DAY

I came home early since there wasn’t much to do today. It was late afternoon when I started to hear those noises again. So, I was laying on the floor of my room cold concrete on my back. I blankly stared at my ceiling I just couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong. I didn't want to intrude because I knew that I didn't have all the facts. But I couldn't bear the thought of leaving her alone.

So, I took the elevator to the second floor again. I walked down the hall and then I knocked on her door. Same procedure. She opened and that’s when I saw her swollen eyes, her red nose and her voice was a bit off. I could tell that she had been crying again. Even though I barely knew her I felt a sting piercing through my heart seeing her like this. I really want to make her laugh. “Oh hey, Miyeon-shi” she cleared . “What brings you here?” she asked while giving me a smile, but it didn’t look sincere. “Now in exactly one hour the sun is going to set. From the roof of our apartments you will have the best view. Feel free to join me.”

-------------------------

I love the rooftop. Nobody ever comes here that’s why I made it to my secret layer. I even decorated it a bit. A small sofa, some cushions, some lights and blankets.

For everytime my girls would come over. But they all have been busy lately. Soyeon and Yuqi are working on a new song. Soojin and Shuhua went on vacation together celebrating their 1st anniversary since the got together. I’m excited for them but it kind of leaves me lonely. Somehow, I didn’t mind it though. My head was busy thinking about Minnie anyways. There is no room for lonely thoughts anymore.

I don’t know if she is going to come honestly. She seemed a bit confused at the sudden invitation. I can’t blame her I was surprised at myself since I didn’t plan that at all. But when I saw her face, I didn’t want to ask about the noise again. It was clear that she tried hard to cover it.

I took out my boombox and started to play the song “Lean on me”. As she hears the words I hope she will know that she’ll be ok. I want her to know that she can lean on me. Okay now I’ll just have to wait and see I thought to myself as I sat down facing the beautiful view.

I was busy humming along that I didn’t notice the steps behind me. “Hey there” a soft voice called out. I turned around and was now facing an angel. The way the wind was blowing her hair, her rosy cheeks and her red lips, she looked so breathtakingly stunning. She was wearing a white top with a yellow cardigan over it and a pair of shorts as she was approaching me.

“Hey.” I smiled at her while I turned the music down. “Come sit here” I said as I was patting the space right next to me. Minnie sat there but kept a distance. “Thanks for the invitation. I didn’t know that our rooftop was this fancy.” she chuckled. “Nobody ever comes here so decided to make it to my secret layer.” I answered.
She nodded as she was acknowledging it. “Hey... uhm thanks for checking up on me last time. It meant a lot to me.” Minnie said while looking at her feet. She is so adorable. I moved closer to her until or legs touched. She looked at me surprised I could tell that she was blushing a bit. But I just kept my vision forward enjoying the pretty view even though she was prettier. After a few moments of not knowing what to do I turned to her and gave her a warm smile before saying,” You know, I promise I'm not playing tricks on you. You're always welcome to come in. You could stay here for an hour or two if you ever need a friend. We can talk about the noise, when you're ready, but until then I'll say, “It must have been the wind””.

A FEW YEARS LATER

No One’s POV

“Finally, home again.” Minnie let out a big sigh. “I love the girls but sometimes it’s a lot to handle.” The Thai girl jumped into the bed trying get some rest.

“You are a lot to handle too.” Miyeon teased the other girl while she sat next to her and started to her hair.

“Yah what do you mean?” the younger girl sat up and pouted.

“Nothing. Just that you are a lot to handle.” Miyeon said while trying to keep her poker face.

“This is so not true! You are so mean!” Minnie stood up as she was about to leave the room the older girl grabbed her by her wrist and pulled her back.

“Babe, I’m just messing with you.’ Miyeon said. She couldn’t help but had to laugh at her girlfriend who was still sulking and avoiding eye-contact. The Korean would tilt her head in order to find the gaze of her lover but the other one would keep moving her head, so she wasn’t able to. Minnie then turned around, so her beloved wouldn’t see the smile that was slowly coming up on her face. That’s when she began to blush because Miyeon wrapped her arms around her waist giving her a sweet back hug. “Don’t be mad babe.” The older girl said in a baby voice while she turned her girlfriend around in order to face her. “I know you love me.” she smirked as she connected their foreheads. “Give me a kiss me.”

Minnie chuckled as she wrapped her armes around her nack. “I hate that I can’t resist you.” She said before leaning in to capture the soft lips of her girlfriend.

“I love you so much, you know that?” Minnie grinned as they pulled back from the sweet kiss they shared. “If it wouldn’t been for you, I might still be living the life I lived before we met.” Minnie couldn’t help but felt sad when she remembered how she was suffering from anxiety and stress. She couldn’t handle it and would break down nearly every day. When they met on the roof about two years ago Minnie told the older girl about all of her struggles and since then Miyeon would not leave her side. She would always stick around and try to cheer her up every time life was being a . That’s why they moved together because they it would be waste of space when they have been living in the same house anyway. Miyeon noticed that her girlfriend was drifting away, so she lifted her chin up to make the younger girl look at her again. “Those bad times are over. Now you got me and the girls.” The Korean girl genuinely smiled at her beloved.” You, here in my arms is everything that counts right now. I love you so much.”

Minnie began to tear up. Even though they already started dating a few months after they first met and are now together for 2 years, she still couldn’t believe how lucky she is, to be able to call Miyeon her girlfriend. “Sometimes I still can’t believe how lucky I am.” The younger stated as her tears fell. She didn’t want to cry but couldn’t help it since she is an emotional person. But those tears were quickly erased by the soft touch of her girlfriend’s thumbs whipping them. “You are my everything. Please love me forever.” Minnie continued while smiling from eye to eye.

“I will. As long as our forever will take us. I love you so dearly Kim Minnie.” Miyeon responded before leaning in again kissing the love of her life.
