Safe Haven

Eunha slumped her body down on the couch in her tiny living room. She was not having a very good day today. Not only today, but these past few days have been rough on her. She looked around to her apartment that she shared with her girlfriend, Yuna. Looking at how messy this apartment was despite how small this place was, made her mood go down more than it already did. After taking a deep breath, she lifted her body up from the couch and shrugged her jacket off. She walked to the big pile of unwashed dishes and pan. She rolled her sleeves up to her elbow and started to do the dishes. As soon as it was done she moved on to clean the whole floor up and wipe the tv and the entire furniture from the dust. When she was about to move on to their bedroom, she heard the front door open and revealed her girlfriend’s figure entering their apartment.

“Oh, you’re home already, Eunha,” she said when she saw the girl standing in front of the bedroom. The tiredness was so evident in Yuna’s face. She walked casually to where Eunha was standing and gave the shorter girl a brief kiss on her forehead before putting her bag and coat down on the couch. Eunha just hummed responding to Yuna's greeting. Yuna was scanning through their apartment and realized it wasn’t messy as when she left this morning. Her eyes landed on Eunha’s hand that was still holding a slightly dirty cloth.

“You cleaned up.” It was more like a statement rather than a question, when Yuna glanced there were no dirty dishes in the sink anymore. Hearing no response from the other she faced her girlfriend with a questioning look.

“I couldn’t handle the mess, so I did it,” she answered coldly. She didn’t know either why she sounded so cold to Yuna. Meanwhile the latter frowned hearing the cold treatment from Eunha.

“Sorry, I couldn’t do it this morning. I was running late,” she reasoned and walked closer to take the cloth but the short-haired girl yanked her hand away. Yuna's hand was frozen in the mid air, slightly taken aback by her sudden gesture. She took back her hand and looked at her girlfriend’s eyes. She couldn't figure out why Eunha was being so cold like this.  When there was no reply from the girl in front of her, Yuna finally gave in. “Alright, what is it? I know you wanna say something.”

“Maybe if you could manage your timing better you could do it before you go to work,” she mumbled loud enough so Yuna could hear her.

“Why does it have to be me to do the chores? This is your place too,” Yuna snapped, feeling the anger built up inside her. She just got home, feeling tired and hurt after hearing what Eunha said. Did she think she was slacking off all this time? Usually, Yuna did the chores later after work, she just didn’t expect that Eunha would come home early today. Every morning she woke up as early as she could just to prepare breakfast for her. Knowing her girlfriend tends to get hungry before the lunch break, she also packs her some snacks so she wouldn’t feel hungry while working. She was just disappointed that her own girlfriend didn’t acknowledge her effort.

“I can’t. I had something important to do this morning. Besides, you are the one who always does that. But these past few days this house was a mess!” She raised her voice up making Yuna flinched.

“There were so many things to do at work,” she responded shortly. Her hands curled up in fists to hold back her anger.

“What did you do that makes you always come home late? Do you see someone else?” Eunha continued with her attack.

Yuna threw her hurtful look to the person before her. “What― How could you say that?” her voice cracked up upon hearing that question. “I’ve told you I have an event coming up in the office next week. I can’t come home right on time to clean this place up before you get home!” A tear rolled down from her eyes slowly. “Do you think I was playing around in the office and going home late on purpose to avoid doing these chores?” she continued. Her heart sank when the girl she loves accused her of cheating on her indirectly. She looked away from the girl in front of her and harshly wiped her tears away.

Meanwhile Eunha just stood there, stunned. Somehow regretting her harsh words that just come out of without too much thinking, and making the taller girl cry. She felt the guilt raising up in her gut. She accidentally forgot that Yuna once mentioned the reason why she was going home late these past few weeks to her. It was all because she had her own problem that occupied her head. Biting her lower lip, she looked up to the person before her who looked so broken because of what she said. She opened but nothing came out, more like she was afraid if she talked she would hurt Yuna even more.

She couldn’t be here right now, she thought. In one swift motion she quickly grabbed her bag and her jacket and was walking towards the front door. Yuna realized that Eunha was going to leave the house, and reacted, “Wh-where are you going?”

There was no answer from the latter. She didn’t even spare a glance at Yuna. Before Eunha closes the front door, Yuna is still able to shout, “Eunha come back here! We’re not done talking!” Yet turned out her shouting was answered with a closed door. Yuna was bewildered by what was just happening. She was just standing in the middle of the empty apartment while her eyes still glued to the front door. This was the first time for her. Sure they have fought with each other, having dozens of arguments, but never once they walked away from each other.

Without she even realized her tears were streaming down to her cheeks. Her knees feeling wobbly and ready to give up at any second. She found herself falling down on the cold floor and just crying silently, hoping that Eunha would come back to her.

Eunha chugged the beer down to ignoring the burning feeling in and slamming the empty can to the small table in front of her. She was now sitting while drinking outside of the convenience store alone. She needed to wind up a little bit to lessen the anger inside of her. She didn’t understand why she lashed out like that to her clueless girlfriend. When she saw the hurting look on Yuna’s eyes, she felt her own heart breaking into million pieces. She didn’t mean to put all the blame on Yuna. In fact, the only one who needed to blame was herself.

There were so many things going on inside her head, one of them was how to tell the other girl that she just lost her steady job. She hadn’t told her yet. These last few days she was wandering around the town looking for another job. It was so silly, she knew that. She just didn’t want to look pathetic in front of her girl. Maybe she gets used to being Yuna’s rock all these years. Ever since she asked Yuna to leave everything behind and just run away with her, she has always been the stronger one between them. Being months older, made Eunha being the responsible one. She tried her best to provide for Yuna's needs and keep working hard. Her only purpose in life is to make Yuna happy, nothing else matters.

She leaned back to the chair she was sitting on, letting her mind wander. She still remembers the day the taller girl accepted her confession to be her girlfriend. They were still in college at that time. Both of their parents refused to acknowledge their relationship since the start but they don’t care. When Yuna’s parents threatened to take her back to her hometown to separate them, Eunha took Yuna's hands and convinced her that she could give the life that they always wanted. Eunha knew what she did was foolish and unprepared, but she never regretted that.

The time when she took Yuna away from her parents house was the time that she felt so confident about her decision she took in her entire life. Even she had to drop out from college and looked for a job to support both of them. Because doing the part-time job wasn’t going to be enough to fulfill both of their needs. At first, Yuna wanted to do the same too, but Eunha insisted that at least one of them had to get the diploma. And it had to be Yuna, because between them, Yuna was the one who got the scholarship. At least, Eunha didn’t have to worry about how to pay for the course. Besides, Eunha was never a big fan of studying. So, it was decided, Eunha was the one that worked to support both of them while Yuna continued her study.

Their life might be rough, but they were happy with each other most of the time. Until she hurt Yuna so badly a few moments ago, and the fight over doing the chores! She put her palms to her face and rubbed it harshly. How could she do that to her? After all the promise she said to her, she felt disappointed with herself. On the corner of her eyesight, she caught a couple who were standing in front of the liquor rack discussing which one to buy.

That couple reminded her of her and Yuna back then, when they needed to celebrate their anniversary or just randomly bought the cheap wine because they wanted to. At that time they could only afford those cheap wines, but it didn’t matter to them, because the wine is just an additional good to complement the celebration. The most important thing is that they have each other. She smiled remembering their happy memories.

Then, she remembered something important. Yuna! She must be waiting at home, crying and hurting all alone. She quickly grabbed her bag and cleaned up the can on the table and got up. Now she was ready to go to her Yuna and fixed everything.

Yuna was pacing back and forth at their apartment with a cellphone on her hand. Once in a while she put her phone to her ear, trying to contact Eunha. It’s been more than a couple of hours since Eunha walked out on her. She couldn’t help but feel worried and nervous at the same time. After several attempts, the short haired girl still was not answering the call. With no hesitation Yuna walked up to the front door and tried to find Eunha herself. She couldn’t bear the deafening silence at their home without Eunha’s presence. It felt so cold and made her uneasy. When she reached outside their building, she turned her head to the left and right, and didn't know which way she would go next. She was afraid that they would miss each other’s path if she insisted on looking for her. Reluctantly, she decided to wait for her and was sitting down the stairs in front of the building.

Tonight the weather was so cold this september. Yuna could feel the cold breeze was hitting up her whole body. She just remembered that she forgot to bring her coat with her because her mind was too occupied with Eunha. She looked around at the sight around her. There were not so many people around. Maybe because their building was located quite far from the downtown area. Albeit the neighborhood is rather quiet, it is not that bad compared to their very first apartment they lived in. It actually was so much better than before. She could hang around feeling safe outside even if it’s too late.

She was crouching down hugging her legs up to lessen the cold and her long sleeves white blouse didn’t help that much. Her eyes kept looking around just in case Eunha popped out of nowhere. There were so many things going on in her head. She was afraid that her girlfriend decided to leave her. Maybe she got tired of her. Or maybe she fell out of love. Another one was, what if she was tired of their situation and wanted to give up on her. With those thoughts her eyes became watery again, scared if it was all true. She buried her head between her legs to hide the tears, because she didn't want to attract the passerby.

A couple of minutes had passed, she tried to look up and found her bunny girlfriend was walking towards her, not aware that Yuna was sitting on the stairs. Without wasting any more time, Yuna brought herself up from the ground, walking up to where her lover was and engulfing the petite girl into her arms.

“I-I’m sorry, Eunha. Please forgive me,” were the only sentences she could utter with her hoarse voice. She tightened her hug desperately as if it was the only thing to keep her alive. Eunha was taken aback at her sudden appearance and action, but she kept her body still while her free hand rubbing Yuna’s back slowly to calm her down. It really made her heart ache hearing her apology and how broken her voice was. The one who should be apologizing is her, not Yuna.

Eunha pulled away from the hug so that she could take a good look on her girl. Her hair was messy, her face was red, and her eyes were swollen, hinting that she hadn’t stopped crying since Eunha left her. Her hand reached up to put her strands of hair behind her tiny ear to give a better look on Yuna’s beautiful face. There was also a trace of her tears evident on her cheeks. Her gaze became soft at the sight in front of her. She cupped Yuna’s cheek to wipe the tears away and realized that it was so cold.

“How long have you been staying outside?” she quietly asked the long-haired girl.

“I thought you left me,” her voice was so tiny. Eunha would miss it if she didn’t pay attention to her.

“Why stay up here without wearing your coat? You could get sick,” she couldn’t help but started nagging on her. Yuna was a klutz. She tends to forget common things easily, but always remembers every single little thing about Eunha and important dates such as anniversary and birthdays which make her wonder at how Yuna’s mind works.

Yuna shifted her gaze to the ground, “I’m sorry,” she muttered. With that, Eunha’s finger moved to lift her chin up to bring the taller’s attention back to her.

“Let’s go inside and talk,” Eunha said while raising her left hand up to show the two plastic bags that she was carrying. Without waiting at Yuna’s response, she dragged the latter inside to fix everything up.

Yuna sat silently on the couch while her eyes kept staring at the bag of snacks and a bottle of wine that Eunha was put on the table.  She was somehow feeling half happy and half afraid. She was happy that Eunha came back, but she couldn’t help to feel anxious about what the talk was gonna be about. She was afraid that all her bad thoughts would become reality in the next few minutes.

For Yuna, Eunha not just held the most important place in her heart but also in her life. When they just got into the relationship she had a lot of doubt within herself, especially when Eunha convinced her to run away from home and promised her that she would never let go of her. Yuna wasn’t the type of person who loves to take risks in the first place. She used to live with organized plans and goals, yet she dropped everything behind and just went with the flow when she met Eunha, a jolly adventurous girl who seems to live according to her will.

Eunha was the strong-willed type of girl who barely wavered to whatever obstacles in front of her. People may think that she lives recklessly and has zero responsibility towards all of her decisions she ever takes, but to Yuna’s eyes she's a very dependable girl who has her own beliefs. With Eunha by her side, Yuna learned how to toughen herself up. As long as she has Eunha, she’s willing to face everything.

Her eyes landed on Eunha putting the wine glasses down on the coffee table and then pouring the wine into them. Her long fingers were fiddling, feeling nervous wondering when this conversation would start. She saw Eunha plopped down on the floor back-facing her, while taking out all the snacks from the plastic bag. The latter turned her head to where Yuna was and tapped the space next to her, “Come, sit here with me.”

Yuna slided herself down and sat beside her. She kept her gaze to the girl next to her, still trying to guess what was exactly on her mind. Eunha was usually a pretty readable person, unlike Yuna who was kind of a reserved type. It wasn’t that hard to know whether she’s happy, sad, or angry just by the look on her face. But today, Yuna failed to read whatever was written in her lover’s expression.

“I got your favorite,” Eunha handed her a pack which contained three pieces of sweet potatoes. The latter took it with hesitation.

“What’s with all of this?” she voiced out her confusion to the shorter girl.

Without answering Yuna's question, Eunha picked one of the sweet potatoes out from her grasp and peeled them off before giving it to her. “Sorry I lashed out earlier,” she finally let out the words that she wanted to say the most since the fight broke.

“I might need more than that to understand everything, you know.”

“I know,” Eunha brought the glass in front of Yuna. “I've been trying to form the word in my head since I left,” she continued.

Yuna stared at the peeled sweet potato on her hand bitterly. “If you want to say something, say it like the way you always do, Eunbi,” she said quietly. Eunha was startled when Yuna was using her real name. Yuna never called her real name no matter how annoying she was to her sometimes. The last time she did that was when they first encountered each other back in college. She looked at the other girl intently and noticed how her jaw clenched tightly, as if she was trying to hold back her tears.

“Do you know how scared I was when you just walked away from me? How worried I was when I couldn’t even reach you? And how crazy I was waiting for you to come back? Or do you not consider my feelings anymore?” Yuna looked up and Eunha could see the tears were pooling in her eyes ready to fall down. “I keep thinking to myself, what did I do so wrong that makes you storm out like that? I keep replaying things that I did today, the last couple days, even weeks before, maybe I missed out on something that really upset you.” She never changed, Eunha thought. The Yuna she met 5 years ago is still the same Yuna in front of her right now. The girl who prefers checking herself first before blaming others. The girl who rarely raises her voice whenever they argue. The girl she loves with all her entire heart.

Eunha scooted closer and held Yuna’s arm, “No, Yuna. You did nothing wrong. I did.” She paused. She took a deep breath before resuming, “I got fired.” She said that eventually. She retracted her grip on her arm then shifted her gaze down on her lap. She didn’t have the courage to look her in the eye. She once said that she would take care of her no matter what happened. Now that she lost her job, how she was supposed to do that.

“I know,” Yuna’s low voice made her look at Yuna with wide eyes. “I’ve been waiting for you to tell me, but nothing comes out from your mouth until now,” she added while putting down the sweet potato on the table. In this situation, even her most favorite food didn’t appeal to her anymore.

“How― Since when did you find out?” Eunha stuttered.

“Is that the most important thing?” she asked her in disbelief. “Why didn’t you tell me on the day when that happened?”

There was a long silence between them. There was a hesitation on Eunha’s face. She wasn’t sure to tell Yuna what the real reason was. On the other hand, Yuna was patiently waiting for the older girl’s explanation why she needed to hide it from her. She actually knew about the matter when she went to Eunha’s office to fetch her snack-box that she forgot to bring that day. She didn’t know how to react when one of Eunha’s coworkers said that she was no longer working there and she didn’t tell her about it. She really wanted to ask her at first, but held herself back for doing so. She’d rather wait for Eunha to tell her by herself.

Eunha heaved a sigh. “I- I’m afraid that you’ll leave me,” she mumbled while averting her gaze from Yuna. “That I’ll be such a disappointment to you knowing that I’m jobless now,” she added while her tears were streaming down on her face, making Yuna cupped her cheeks and gently wiped them away with her thumbs.

“Baby, look at me,” Yuna softly said, making Eunha’s eyes locked on hers. “You’re an idiot. Why would I do that? Leaving you was never crossed in my mind, like ever. Why would you think of something that clearly was not going to happen instead of just telling me what is bothering you this last couple weeks?” She was caressing her cheeks to calm her down. She couldn’t stand seeing Eunha crying over something that wasn’t even real. It actually pained her seeing the person that meant the most to you worrying over something that wasn’t supposed to.

“You are my responsibility, Yuna. I told you years ago that I will take care of you, make you happy and be your steady rocks whenever you need it. And how could I do all that when I lost my job? Plus, look around you. Up until now I couldn’t even get you a nice place to live. You even need more than an hour to commute from here to your workplace.” Eunha couldn’t hold the feeling any longer. Feeling like such a failure in front of the girl who adores and respects her so much, was like a big blow to her ego. She couldn’t even look Yuna in the eyes right now.

Yuna’s heart stung hearing Eunha’s words. Her hands moved away from Eunha’s cheeks immediately. Did their situation pressure her too much? She couldn’t help but think like that. All this time, she barely saw Eunha complain or get stressed out about it. Sure, they faced a lot of hardship since they got together, but she never knew that Eunha just kept the frustration in by herself. She couldn’t let Eunha continue to think that way, so she gently held Eunha’s shoulders and tried to make this right. “But you did, Eunha. You still do. You make me happy while taking care of me and be my solid supporter at the same time. You did all of that. It’s not just me who you are responsible to, Babe, you are mine, too. Because there are two of us in this relationship. And now that I have a job, let me take care of you and handle your burden, too.” Yuna’s voice was so calm, making Eunha look at her big beautiful eyes that were full of nothing but warmth staring back at hers.

With her hands covering her face, Eunha broke down crying louder this time. Yuna didn’t have a choice besides bringing the crying girl into her arms. There was no other sound except Eunha’s heavy sobs enveloping this apartment. Yuna just stayed still while patting her back gently. She could feel how her body was shaking heavily. After minutes passed, Eunha finally calmed herself down and pulled herself from Yuna's comfortable hug. Her tears were smeared all over her face, making Yuna extend her hand out to dry the tears. Again.

“Please, don’t cry. Between the two of us, I’m the crybaby one, you know,” she said it while squinting her eyes to tease Eunha. Yuna’s little effort to light up the mood earned a weak smile from Eunha. Looking back, it was her first who was crying outside their building a while ago, but now she was the one who was trying to cheer the smaller girl up.

Eunha could never understand how Yuna always had a way of breaking up the heavy atmosphere when it was needed. She always had a way to make Eunha’s day a little bit better when it wasn’t, effortlessly. Maybe that was the reason they are still in the relationship until now. Whenever they had a fight like this, Eunha was the one who easily got hot-headed, meanwhile Yuna was always the calmer one. She always took a step back to track and trace what the problem was, then spoke up her mind. She might be clumsy in her daily life, but when it comes to this relationship and Eunha, she was never reckless. Not once, even in their worst arguments, she tried to walk away like Eunha did today.

Then, the realization hit Eunha like a truck, that Yuna was her anchor, her solid rock, too, when she needed one. That she needed her more than she could ever know. All this time Eunha was too busy being the strongest one for the other, but the truth that Yuna was the one who kept everything together.

She observed the brunette closely. Never wanted to look away like what she did this whole night. The latter stared back at her with the same affectionate gaze she always gave her since 5 years ago. What Eunha loved about Yuna’s eyes was how so mesmerizing and expressive they were. Especially when she was happy, you could clearly see the glint in her eyes. Or when you were talking, she would put all her focus only on you, making you feel that you were special for her. Or when she was just silently looking at you like now, it was impossible to look away. Her eyes were exactly the reason how Eunha got attracted to her when they first met.

Both of them didn’t bother to make a move until Yuna stretched her hand to grab Eunha’s. “I’m sorry, Eunha. If this relationship pressured you too much. If I’m being such a burden to you all this time. I know sometimes I’m being too childish and not being observant enough that you are struggling. I should’ve known,” her voice was almost inaudible. She turned her gaze to their linked hands, feeling sorry for causing the stress to the other party of this relationship.

“No, don’t say that. I’m so sorry that I make you feel that way, babe,” Eunha tugged their hand, asking for her attention. She was smiling when Yuna’s clear eyes were staring back at her. “Yuna, You are the best thing that ever happened to me. I would never ask for anything else anymore as long as I have you. I’m sorry that I couldn’t get you things that I ever promised you before; a better place to live, a better life for us, a better me. I was so caught up with my own problem that I forgot that I still have you. I’m so embarrassed to face you right now, you know. I don’t know how to break the news to you that I lost my job, that’s why I hoped I could find another job before telling you. But you beat me to it. I’m really sorry, Yuna,” she explained her reason with a shaking voice. Yuna did deserve a whole explanation, just like what she said before. She held her breath before continuing, “I know what I did today was totally wrong, and I’m sure you might be disappointed in me. But I’m such a greedy person, Yuna. And here I am, shamelessly asking you, once again, to stay by my side. I’ll look for another job and keep supporting us. I’ll do anything, just, please don’t give up on me, Yuna,” she pleaded while holding Yuna’s hand tightly.

A sudden silence filled the room. Yuna glanced down to their hands before setting her eyes back on the girl before her. “Do you remember what you said to me back then when you asked me to follow and trust you?” With a slight frowning on her eyebrows, Eunha gave her a simple nod. “Since the start, we are very different from each other. We’re like the sun and the moon, one comes out in a day while the other appears at night. But it is not impossible for the two to show up at the same time in the same sky. And the same thing happened to both of us. I wasn’t used to living without planning. I was so scared and had a lot of doubt when you were asking me to follow you, to grab your hand and believe in you. But then, I could see it right in your eyes, and I still can until now. The determination, the devotion, the sincerity, all of them are still there even years have passed.

“So, even without you asking, again, I won’t go anywhere. I have nowhere else to go except to you. We may not have an easy life and it’s been tough up until now, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. If all of these hardships make our relationship go stronger, so be it. As long as we’re together I don’t care with anything else. Even if we’re going broke, I still don’t care. I don’t need all of those. Besides, you already did give me the best thing that I could ever have, anyway,” she gave Eunha her tender smile, making Eunha tilted her head in question. Her smile grew wider seeing the clueless look of her girlfriend, “It’s you and your tremendous love for me, Eunha,” she continued. “So, don’t you ever dare to say that you couldn’t give me the best house, the best life or whatever. Because you already did. I have you, and that’s more than enough.” She ended her very long speech that made Eunha’s cheeks turn into the shade of pink.

“Wow, I forgot that you are such a sweet talker, Yuna,” she chuckled responding to the taller girl’s heartfelt speech.

“Sweet is my middle name, babe, in case you forgot,” she remarked. A hearty laugh escaped from Eunha's mouth. A sound that Yuna adored the most. And it’s been a while since the last time she heard that particular laugh of her.

After she recovered from the laughter, she caressed Yuna’s knuckles and asked, “So, are we okay, now?” She wanted to make sure that everything was resolved.

Giving her best smile to the girl in front of her before Yuna took her hand and kissed it, “We are. We always are, eventually.” She said, making Eunha smile widely at her statement.

Then Yuna watched Eunha take the glass and handed it to her. She glanced down at the glass before taking it from Eunha’s. She still didn’t understand why Eunha came home with a bottle of wine and a bunch of snacks. Eunha smiled when she caught the puzzled look on her face.

“It’s been a long time since the last time we did this, right?” Eunha took her own glass and clinked it to Yuna’s glass before sipping the liquid. Her gesture made Yuna do the same thing as her, though a little hesitation spread on her face. Yuna grimaced as soon as the red liquid touched her tongue, “Wow,” she hissed automatically on this low quality wine, making Eunha laugh lightly.

“Do what? Fighting?” She frowned at the question.

“No, silly. I mean talking while having this cheap wine and snacks, like we always did way back then. I don’t even remember when the last time we did this,” Eunha smiled faintly at the memory.

Yuna nodded her head whilst moving her glass in a circle to stir the wine slowly. “It was during my last year in college. That time I was so stressed out doing my thesis and then you came home from work bringing all the snacks you can grab plus the wine,” she replied nonchalantly reminiscence about the past time.

Eunha raised her eyebrows, slightly shocked by how she remembered it precisely. But then again Yuna’s mind always worked on its own way. She put all her attention to the girl who was now, chewing her sweet potato happily. Her heart felt at ease whenever she saw Yuna happy, even by the simplest things; such as eating her most favorite food in the world.

Yuna actually was the kind of a girl who was not that hard to impress in the first place. Eunha didn’t have to go for miles just to put the smile on the taller girl’s face. When the things got tough between them, she never complained and just gave Eunha her brightest smile and said that everything would be okay eventually.

“So, is this the reason why you went for hours? There’s no way you get the wine in the convenience store nearby.” Yuna kept munching, making her cheeks go puffy.

“Yeah, I have to go to the grocery store to get that and your favorite roasted sweet potatoes,” she snickered. Yuna ignored the teasing and grabbed another one.

Eunha always found it amusing at how happy Yuna was whenever she eats sweet potatoes. “Are you really that happy eating those?” Yuna just nodded her head without losing her attention peeling it off. “Do you love the sweet potato more than me?” Eunha didn’t give up pestering her girlfriend.

“Hmm.. Let’s see,” Yuna stopped what she was doing and looked intensely at the smaller girl.

“Whoa! Why would you even need a minute to think about it?!” She flabbergasted at her girl’s action.

“Of course I love you more,” she answered and went back to focus on her sweet potato again.

“You just say that because I brought the sweet potato home, right?”

Yuna tilted her head and decided to tease the girl back, “Pretty much.”

“Wow!” Eunha couldn’t help but rolled her eyes, earning a loud laugh from Yuna.

Yuna leaned her body towards Eunha, so that her face was only inches apart from the sulky girl, and gave her a quick kiss on the lips. A small smile was evident on Yuna’s lips when she noticed Eunha’s cheeks and ears turned red afterward.

“Yes, sweet potatoes makes me happy, and you’re the one that brought that happiness to me. Not just from sweet potatoes, everything you do is making me happy regardless. So, in conclusion I love you more than sweet potatoes. I love you more than anything in this world, babe. It’s not even worth comparing.” Yuna’s hot breath was hitting Eunha’s face due to the closeness.

In the meantime, Eunha was already lost in Yuna’s dark brown eyes the moment they locked their gaze on each other. Eunha could see her reflection in those brown orbs and how her eyes were twinkling brightly. Eunha once said to her that her eyes were beautiful exactly like stars and galaxies. And she never expected the reply coming from , “Because they only look at you. You are my galaxy.” Ever since then, Yuna always called her Eunha; which means galaxy.

“Yuna,” she called and the said girl hummed in response without breaking eye contact. “You said that I’m your galaxy, right? So, in that case, you are my entire space. You are my Yuju. Because, I swear, I can’t picture myself live without you. There will be no galaxy without the space, right?” Yuna arched her eyebrow hearing Eunha’s analogy. Both of them stayed in their position, no one wanted to move away. Then, the bright smile that never failed to give Eunha warmth not just to her heart but to her entire body, was plastered on Yuna’s face.

“Yuju? I love that. I could be your Yuju,” she answered, still smiling.

“Then, Yuju it is.” Eunha couldn’t help but move closer to Yuna to give her a proper kiss after all the chaos she’d caused today. Within seconds Yuna already reciprocated her kiss and deepened it. Their kiss was soft, delicate and without pretension, as if they wanted to feel each other’s feelings as much as they could.

“I’m so damn lucky to have you, babe. Chasing after you was definitely the best decision I’ve ever made,” Eunha stated after they pulled away.

“Well, I’m glad you did. Because I didn’t think I have that courage to make a move to you. You were pretty popular back in college.”

“What are you talking about? Didn’t you know that you had your own troops that would sacrifice anything just to get your attention?”

“Did I? Stop making fun of me and stop making up stories!” She lightly slapped Eunha’s arm.

Eunha looked at her in disbelief, “Unbelievable! Let’s see, there were Chaeyeon, Dami, Jane, Sujeong, Miyeon―”

“What?! They all are my friends, babe!” Yuna cut Eunha before she could even finish her sentence and whined loudly.

“I can still go on if you want.”

“Noooo! Please, stop!” Yuna put her palm to cover Eunha’s mouth before she could continue, which got them bursting into laughter. They might be a quiet and calm couple most of the time, but there was a moment they could be loud, too, especially when they were playful like this.

After their laughter had died down, Eunha took Yuna’s hand and held it in hers. “Yuju, I know we have faced hard times together, and turns out, this time we’ll face another one. I’ll keep trying to look for another job. So, please, just wait a little bit more,” she said while putting her gaze back to Yuna’s eyes.

Yuna’s lips curved into another smile before responding to what her lover said. “Take your time as much as you need, babe. Don’t rush it. I’m working now and my paycheck is enough for both of us. So, you can rest and lean on me from now on.” Yuna touched Eunha’s nose lightly, which made her scrunch her nose cutely.

“But, I promised to give you a better place to live, I still want to do it,” she insisted.

Yuna chuckled hearing her girlfriend's stubbornness. There was no use to argue with her when she already set her mind to it. “I think this apartment is good enough. It doesn’t really matter to me where we live, I’ll follow you wherever you take me to anyway. Because for me, you are my home, Eunha. But, okay, then. I could never win against you anyway,” she snickered. Though what Yuna said was an absolute truth, Eunha was her home, her safe haven ever since they started dating. And at the end of the day, she would always be her last place she headed to rest after a tiring day. Eunha would always welcome her with an open arms when her own family turned their back on her.

And out of nowhere, there was a loud thud and some screaming with filthy from the unit next door repeatedly. Seems like Miss SinB and her girlfriend were having their routine “business” every night. Both Eunha and Yuna stare at where the noise was and made a horrific expression on their faces.

“They start already?” A rhetorical question slipped from Eunha’s mouth.

“You’d better get me a place with the thicker walls, babe,” Yuna uttered while staring at the walls that separate their units with horror.

Putting her palms to cover Yuna’s ears and turned her attention away from that disturbing sound, Eunha responded after planting a chaste kiss on Yuna’s lips, “Sure, baby. I’ll give you one, someday.”
