Vacation

Vacation

September 8, 2015. She had just turned eighteen. Black jacket over a navy blue crop top, white tattered jeans, black high-heeled boots and white bonnet angled in just the right position to make a fashion statement. She was all set for her very first trip to Korea with two of her equally excited yet not-so equally prepped best friends. She had dreamt of this since she had gotten herself deep down into the K-Pop Fandom that is Bangtan Sonyeondan or BTS for short. Though excited, her friends never really made much of this trip but just a simple vacation from their ordinary lives as well-known Youtubers in London but not for her. For her, this was a time, an opportunity for her to meet the sole people who made her start making Youtube videos in the first place. Other than the constant shuffling around the room made by both her best friends, she just sat there on her bed, thinking of ways on how to possibly meet her idols in such a city filled with equally anticipating yet local fans.

“Hey, you got your vlogging stuff all set?” One of her best friends spoke up with a question, breaking the girl away from her trance. They were doing last minute check-ups, re-inspecting their luggage and backpacks in case they forgot to pack something that could have been important to leave behind for this trip. She nodded in response, watching both her best friends doing whatever it was they were doing as she sat on her bed, her chin resting on the handle of her luggage.

She had just finished with her last minute check-ups the night before, this morning and a few minutes before both of her best friends had woken up. She was meticulous. She didn’t want to leave anything behind for this big trip, thinking it would probably make her go wild if she did.

“You guys done yet? We have to leave in five minutes or we’ll miss the flight” She stated, glancing at her watch wrapped perfectly around her wrist. A frown was starting to form at the corner of her lips after seeing both her best friends disregard her earlier statement. If there was one thing she hated more than disorganized planning, it was being late. She didn’t like the idea of possibly having to re-schedule their flight.

“Guys” She heaved a sigh. The click of her tongue in sync with the clicking of her boots seemed to be enough signs for both of her best friends to sense the irritation in her. They simply wanted to mess with her, knowing how she can be when it comes to something she had pre-planned plus this was one trip she planned for over three months.

“Guys, I swear I’ll—“

“Alright, alright. We were just messing you, love. Let’s go” Her best friend answers as the trio grabbed their respective luggage and backpack, her grabbing her car keys on the way out as one of her best friends closed the door and locked it just before heading towards her car. Thanks to her meticulous planning, she was able to look for a solution as to not having to leave her precious Volvo at the Airport’s parking lot for over a month as that was most likely their planned duration to stay in Korea.

It was approximately a 10 hour and 45 minutes flight from London to Seoul and spent most of her time curled against a good book at the first class section of the plane while her friends were both vlogging every now and then, urging her to take her eyes away from her book for at least a minute to talk to the camera with them. She didn’t like it but it didn’t mean she shouldn’t do it. In fact, she was not more than compelled to talk to the camera as she figured she at least owed her best friends at least three or four. Besides, it wasn’t all that bad talking to the camera with her friends but she’d rather go back to her book.

“Okay. We won’t be keeping her any further guys. Say good bye, Love” She waved towards the camera before heading back to her book. She loved vlogging, she really did but she hated doing it on planes. She’d rather curl up on a good book, waiting for the plane to land but the trip to Seoul was too long for her to make that happen. She had already finished the book she brought with her for the flight after 4 and a half hours, leaving her with at least 6 more hours of free time. She had pondered for quite a while, staring into space as she was clearly uncomfortable with the fact that her pre-planning for the flight destroyed itself.

She turned her head towards her best friends, about to speak up and complain about the disruption of her plans only to find both of them fast asleep and resting on each other’s shoulder. The corners of her lips lift up as she couldn’t help but smile at the sight. To her, they looked like two babies take a nap after a tiring day of playtime. She watched them for a while, reminding herself why she had chosen to be best friends with these two except for the fact that they share the same passion of being a youtuber before feeling the same feeling of drowsiness course through her as she too fell into slumber, resting her head on the back of the chair openly welcoming the ever-so familiar feeling as she drifted off to sleep.

The rushing cold breeze of the winds from outside the airport, the clicking and clacking of heels of arriving business women, the distant chatters of tourists, the chirpy greetings of the reunion between families, the rolling sound of wheels coming from the luggage and of course, who could forget the screaming voices of tourist guides and bus drivers to attract foreigners to earn money. It was all too much for her to bear as she clutched on to her head, feeling a slight migraine tempting to just appear any time soon. She forgot how much she hated airports because of its noise. It gave her headache and get all grumpy for some odd reason and her best friends knew that well enough to drag her out of there, asking her if she had booked a ride for the entire time or should they just hail a cab to the apartment they decided to rent until whenever it would be time for them to leave Korea. She had her luggage’s metallic handles held tightly unto her hand, trying to suppress whatever pain was in store for her head as she walked out of the crowded establishment, mumbling softly about how noisy people tend to be.

“Love?” She snapped out of her thoughts at the sound of her best friends’ worried voice to which she just simply brushed off before telling them to just hail a cab and that she would just rent a car tomorrow or probably later after they had settled in their apartment.

Their Korean wasn’t as bad as they had thought it would be. They were able to arrive at their apartment after a short while, paying the driver as they got out with their things. Her migraine was fully gone by the time they got there as they excitedly entered their new apartment, setting up their vlogging equipment beside each other before unpacking everything they had in their respective rooms.

September 11, 2015. It has been approximately a week when they first got to Korea and they never had the time to do anything they wanted. They were all too busy making up for the lost time of uploading youtube videos because they had been too immersed in planning for the trip for the past three weeks. They were uploading a video a day, trying to make it up to their viewers in so many ways. Unlike the time they were in London, they no longer had to fight over the wifi connection as it was fast enough to let them upload their videos simultaneously and download a couple of movies and drama series at the same time.

It was rather cold outside and her best friends had no plans on leaving their apartment today. It frustrated her, actually. They came all the way to Korea to have some fun only to deal with the same situation her best friends made when they were in London. Yes, she hated noise and crowds but she had always been a traveller, an explorer and her best friends wanting to just cuddle and curl up in their didn’t seem to be an excuse for her as she browsed through her clothes with an aim to roam around the streets of Seoul alone to have some fun. After what seemed like 25 minutes of mixing and matching, she finally settled on a navy blue button-down shirt—her sleeves rolled up just an inch above her elbow—a pair of jeans, her favorite black bonnet, black 3-inch wedge sneakers and a couple of accessories to match with her look. She headed over to one of her best friend’s room, asking them once again if they cared to join her but frowned as she received the same no she got an hour ago. She grabbed her phone and purse, heading out to greet the cold breeze of the day and made her way to the streets of Seoul, giving herself a tour.

September 11, 2015. He had grown tired of being cramped inside their dorm all day. They were given the week off and much to his discontent, his hyungs decided on spending it inside the dorm rather than roaming around the streets of Seoul. He’d normally prefer to sleep in and maybe curl up in his bed inside the room he shares with their leader but they were too noisy for him to do that, noisy enough to actually wake up the grumpy Yoongi who was now playing and messing around with J-Hope and Taehyung, the two most hyperactive members of the group.

“Where are you going?” Everyone’s attention averted to him as he walked pass his hyungs, with only his phone in his hand and making his way to their dorm’s door. He wasn’t sneaking out since he couldn’t have been more obvious but by the look of his hyungs’ faces, they made it look like he was but that never seemed to faze him.

“I’m going out. It’s cramped in here” The rest nodded, not trying to even stop their maknae, except for Jimin’s constant stolen glances and contemplating whether to go with him or not. But before he could even volunteer to go alone, he saw Taehyung stand up from the corner of his eyes and casually slinging an arm around Jungkook’s neck and telling him that was going with.

“Have fun you two!” Jin screamed through the sound effects of the Mario kart he was playing with Namjoon as the two maknaes simply waved him off before greeting the usual cold breeze they were used to dealing with. They were aimlessly roaming around Seoul, looking for something fun for two guys their age could do. The streets weren’t as crowded as it usually is so they didn’t really feel compelled to put on anything that could hide their identity. It was class hours in Korea which made it easier for them to roam around easily without worrying about sasengs or any type of fans ambushing them or depriving them of the peace and quiet they deserve.

Oh, bloody hell! My hat!” Jungkook wasn’t exactly known for his fast reflexes but Taehyung on the other hand, it was either it works or it doesn’t and apparently today was one of those days where his mind was fast enough to react when his right hand grabbed hold of the black leather-y material before it could hit the younger guy’s face. Their eyes landed on the leather hat, mentally asking themselves how it almost ended up in Jungkook’s face and who it might have belonged to. But what got them curious though was that they knew that this kind of hat was rare in Korea so who could have possibly owned it.

“Th-Thank you. Th-That’s mine” They both looked at each other before facing the panting girl, her hands on her knees as she was clearly out of breath from running in her heels. The pair was curious in so many levels. For one, her accent didn’t sound at all anywhere near Korean as so did her face which had the outline of that from a European country yet attractive enough to intrigue both Bangtan members. She was too busy gasping for air to even notice the pair of attractive guys standing in front of her, wondering if she was okay. Her hands on her knees not because she was tired from all the running, trying to chase her hat, but from the strain she started to feel around her ankles. She’s had these pair of shoes for over a year but never had she tried running in them or in any other pair of heels which made it hard for to even stand properly.

"Uhh..."

“I’m s—oh my god” Her eyes were wide open, even threatening to fall off from its socket as she finally saw the two guys in front of her. The strain from her ankles before soon started fading away as she laid her eyes on the two confused male in front of her. She was confused at first as to why they were standing in front of her until she saw her favorite bonnet on Taehyung’s hand making her gasp, not too secretly, at the sight.

“I—uhm…That’s mine…Thanks” She slowly took her bonnet, placing it back on her head where it belonged before bowing in front of the two male idols in front of her. She wanted so badly to scream and even fangirl or better yet, call her best friends and tell them that she was in front of two members of her favorite group but there was also a side of her which told her to calm down and that they probably don’t like to hear all that fangirling crap from her.

“What country are you from?” She raised her head at the sudden question from the older male, breaking the ice after noticing that his saeng was too fazed to even say anything. She blinked her eyes to process what was happening before regaining her composure, answering Taehyung’s question and telling him clearly that she was from London.

"Ohh~ Is it nice there?"

“Yeah. People are friendly there” She answered with a small smile. Her eyes never seeming to be able to leave the pair of brown orbits that are Taehyung’s eyes. She was star struck and she knew that too. She just couldn’t believe that she was able to meet two of members of her favorite Idols group in under a week. Yes, she came all the way to Korea with that hope but she had calculated that she could only meet them under certain circumstances where she would stand idly by outside Big Hit and act like a lost tourist but this, this she never expected.

“Oh right. Where are my manners. My name’s V and this guy’s Jungkook. What’s yours?”

"Scarlett"

September 15, 2015. After that delightful yet surprising meeting with two of BTS’ members 4 days ago, she couldn’t help but rush home and tell her best friends all about her short yet wonderful encounter with BTS’ Jungkook and V. Her vlog for the past 4 days basically composed of her and her best friends roaming around Seoul and wondering whether she’d be able to meet them again or not. It was currently around 3:30 pm when she decided to go grocery shopping as they were running out of groceries and it was her turn to cook dinner.  She was roaming around the supermarket, looking for the ingredients she had written on a piece of paper she was currently holding on one hand and a video camera on another, vlogging about her short trip while she was pushing the cart with her upper body.

“Need help with that?” She jerked her body at the sound of a second voice, causing her to lose her grip on her precious video cam making the guy catch it just in time before it hits the ground. She heaved a sigh, looking down at her video camera at the unknown guy’s hand.

“Thanks so much. I--Jungkook?”She questions with a tone of surprise. This was probably the second time she never expected to meet anyone from Bangtan at a very common place, let alone the guy who was too fazed to even talk to her days ago.

“Well?” A smile crept up to her face. She couldn’t possibly pass up on the opportunity of her favorite Bangtan member helping her out with the groceries. She had her video cam in her hands as she pushed the cart along, following the Korean guy as he browsed through her list. She wanted so badly to just turn her cam back on and document this very rare moment of being able to spend her time with Jungkook alone but a more sane part of her is telling to just appreciate what she has now.

“You may” The boy spoke up, snapping her back to reality as she asked him what he was talking about. She was rather too busy thinking to herself that she hasn’t quite been paying her full attention towards the boy in front of her. She watched him chuckle at her action as he shook his head, explaining to her as how he was completely fine with her documenting their shopping trip together. But of course, she knew better than that. She knew she had to have some sort of permission for that so she declined, resuming to following him around and looking down to the things he placed on the cart.

“So, how long will you be staying here?” The boy asked as he looked around the place, browsing through the shelves and aisles for the things she had on her list. He knew the type quite well. The meticulous type. One of his hyungs was one and he learned to never mess with what they wanted because somehow, you would never hear the end of them.

“I don’t know. Until we want to head back to London, I guess” She answered as she helped him look for the things she needed for dinner and overall groceries for the entire week this week. She watched him nod in comprehension as they continued roaming around the grocery store, looking for the things they needed only to be disrupted by a sudden head lock.

She hated having her personal space invaded and anyone who knew her knows that which meant that the person behind her wasn’t someone she knows but someone Jungkook knows and she was right. She turned around to be greeted by the grinning face of Jungkook’s co-member, V. She probably thought that she had pressed her luck, accidentally meeting the both of them twice in less than a week. A smile was spread across V’s face as he engulfed her in a hug, asking her how she was and what she has been up to for the last 4 days. Until of course, his eyes landed on the video camera she was holding tightly around her small, petite hands.

Before she could even react to anything, he already had her precious camera in his hands, turning it on before talking in front of the camera with Jungkook who simply continued placing the items listed on her list inside the cart she was pushing. Now, it was her turn to be fazed as she still couldn’t seem to believe the sight before her. V was holding her camera and Jungkook was helping her with her groceries. She found it hard to believe since she had been idolizing her from a far and now she was just a hand away yet she doesn’t know what to do.

“Why do you have a camera with you anyway? Are you like a vlogger or something?” He asked, still facing the camera and making random weird faces, following Jungkook wherever he went. The girl nodded in response, looking through the things inside her cart, quite satisfied that she was nearly finished with the help of Bangtan’s maknae.

"Something like that"

September 29, 2015. It was their 25th day in Korea and not a day went by for her that she didn’t just suddenly leave the apartment—even when they had just came back from roaming around the streets—to meet up with her new found friend, Jeon Jungkook. Ever since their meeting at the grocery store two weeks ago, she promised him that they would keep in contact thus meeting each other around 9pm every night and spend at least an hour together to just help him ease the stress he’s been feeling with their packed schedules. They were supposed to leave and head back to London 5 days from now but this thing she had with Jungkook made her want to stay a little while longer. Well, that and her best friends convincing her that they should just stay in Korea until they would be formally invited for VidCon at the end of the year.

“So, when are you guys leaving?” They were currently seated on a park bench just between their apartments. It was quiet around this time of the night so there wouldn’t be much of a disruption since more than half of Korea is probably asleep by now. They just sat there, admiring the stars like how they usually do every night, talking about their day and talking more about themselves and what they do for a living.

“Not any time soon. My best friends wanted to stay here a bit longer and so do I” This surprised her though. Of all the trips they had taken together, this was the first time her best friends wanted to prolong their trip.

“That’s good” She faced him curiously. For her, she was just another one of his female friends like Halla so it made her confused as to why it was a good thing for Jungkook that she wasn’t leaving any time soon. Of course, she really didn’t think much of it after a few minutes as they started talking about a couple more lighter topics before her phone rang, pressing it near her right ear as she answered it.

“Hey, Kid. Tell Jungkook to come home already would you? You both have been out for 2 and a half hours when we all agreed on an hour and a half” She glanced at her watch and realized that he was right. It was currently 11:30 pm, way pass the time agreed with Bangtan and her best friends. She tugged on her friend’s shoulder, showing him her watch making him stand up abruptly. This was the only con in this situation. They tend to talk too much to the extent that they sometimes lose track of time. This wasn’t the first time they had gone pass their agreed time. V would always be the one to remind them both of their so-called curfew.

“Same time tomorrow?” The boy asks with a smile on his face. He loved her company and it made him feel relieved knowing that he won’t be losing it any time soon. He watched her nod as they exchanged a short hug before going their separate ways. She took her time in going home, unlike Jungkook who practically sprinted back to their dorm, and enjoyed the cold Korean breeze that she had grown used to. She had a lot of things crossing through her mind, from what video to make to how her other friends in London were doing without them there to help them out with everything yet only one of them always seemed to stand out in her train of thought. This would be one hell of a vacation.
