It was a normal day for Irene, she was once again trying to find someone to rob so that she could find some money to feed herself and her sister Yeri. She didn’t ask for this kind of life, she never asked to be abandoned by her parents. For 5 years she never heard about her parents, neither did Yeri. They had a perfect life, at least that’s what Irene thought.

“I’ll be back in a bit Yeri, wait here, don’t leave the house”

“Are you going to take your gun?” The teenager asked her sister

“Not this time… just my knife”

“Be careful… It’s late don’t be robbed or hurt by other person please”

“I won’t Yeri, don’t worry I’ll be back in a bit” The teenager nodded while reading the newspaper, that’s all they had to afford to keep updated on what was going on in Korea

Irene grabbed her bag and left with her knife hidden, she usually would rob rich guys full of themselves, but nowadays it was getting harder to find those, so she had to fight some dangerous guys to get a view on their wallet.

After some minutes of walking trying to find someone, she saw the back of a girl that seemed to have a healthy life, in terms of money. She walked slowly to her while checking her surroundings and she put the knife cable against the girl’s back.

“Give me all your money and your phone, turn around slowly and if you scream you’ll get hurt” Irene whispered, she watched the girl with some bags in her hands raising her arms and turning around slowly. When she faced the stranger she almost, I said almost, gave up on trying to rob her

The monolid girl was with a baguette hanging on being held with her teeth and a surprised and also cute look on her face. Irene tried to look serious and not weaken staring at the girl.

“G-Give me your wallet” The smallest girl cursed herself mentally for stuttering, the girl tried to say something still with the bread half inside and half out “You can put your hands down, I won’t hurt you” The girl nodded and did what Irene told her. The monolid girl bit the bread and was munching it and when she ended she talked

“Do you want this piece of bread?” Irene was taken aback “Or my groceries… better I can buy you some food” Irene was puzzled staring at the girl

“N-No just give me the money” Irene raised her knife but forgot that the blade of the knife was not pointing at the monolid girl

“Look… I know I should be like… obeying but you don’t seem like you are the type that hurts people and is robbing them just because so please let me buy you some food or whatever you need” Irene was going to talk but the girl grabbed her wrist and grabbed the knife

“Hey! What are you doing?”

“Protecting me or your from getting hurt accidentally also taking you to the grocery store to buy you food” The girl smiled and dragged Irene to the grocery store “By the way my name is Seulgi what’s yours?”

“That doesn’t matter” The Seulgi girl giggled

“Don’t worry I won’t report you to the cops”

“I don’t care, it just doesn’t matter for you” Irene tried to be cold but it was getting harder

“Okay, I can see that you’re not a girl that does a lot of talking but may I ask you… do you have kids? House?”

“Why do you want to know?”

“Do you have a job?”

“I have three so that I can pay for my sister’s stu-” Irene stopped talking “Why are you asking?” Seulgi was smiling

“I need to know how many food I need to buy you. You might need diapers, clothes and all” Irene freed herself and stopped walking

“Why are you doing this?”

“Why? Because as I said you don’t look like a person that is stealing people to buy drugs or alcohol”

“And how can you take that conclusion”

“I just know it” Irene sighed

“Look I don’t want you to buy stuff for me”

“Well… I think you should accept because I don’t have a lot of money in my wallet I just have it inside my credit card, and robbing me would only help you to buy probably a bottle of water…” Irene sighed “Take it or leave it” Irene sighed and nodded

“Okay fine”

“Good, you should accept other people’s help”

“I’ve never met someone like you, they would either give me their wallet, put up a fight, run or call the cops” Seulgi nodded

“I’m glad I am your first then” Irene choked with how it sounded and the monolid girl’s cheeks turned pink

“I-I didn’t mean it like that” Irene just stared at the floor and kept walking towards the grocery store “Just shut up Seulgi” The monolid girl mumbled to herself and followed the smallest girl

Once they got inside the grocery store everyone stared at the two, one wearing expensive clothes and the other using black and old clothes, people got confused. Irene just hid behind Seulgi and the monolid girl noticing that held Irene’s hand and dragged her to the food section.

“Okay grab whatever you want” Irene nodded and grabbed just a few things “Really?” Seulgi sighed and started grabbing a lot of things “You said you have a sister, does she like cereals?” Irene didn’t even have time to answer that the girl was already grabbing 5 boxes of cereals

“I-I… I’ll grab a cart”

“Good idea” Irene walked fast and got a cart, she wasn’t going to deny the girl’s help but she couldn’t help but feel a bit shy. When she arrived at the girl’s side she saw her trying to balance the 5 boxes of cereals and some other stuff in her arms

“You’re going to let those fall”

“Maybe” Seulgi giggled and put all she had in hands inside the cart “Let’s go, we have a long way here”

“Thank you” Irene whispered

“Hm?”

“Thank you” Seulgi now heard well and smiled

“You’re welcome”

The girls were focused on the grocery shopping that when they noticed the cart was full and some things were in danger of falling off. Seulgi stared at Irene with her eyes shinning staring at it and her heart told her to go get another cart and buy more stuff for the girl and her sister, and that’s what she did. Irene tried to stop her but she ran off and got another cart.

“What the hell is this girl on?” Irene mumbled to herself while waiting for Seulgi

They ended staying almost 2 hours just buying food and things for Irene and her sister. Irene was thinking deeply about how she was going to take all those bags home, she couldn’t ask Seulgi to help her, the girl already did enough for her. When Seulgi was paying she wanted to see how much she was going to waste with her a mere stranger but Seulgi hid it from her.

“Seulgi let me see”

“Shush” Seulgi paid and the guy was shocked staring at Seulgi “Let’s go, we need a lot of time to carry all these bags unless your house is near”

“It’s 20 minutes walking” Seulgi gulped but nodded

“I’ll help you”

“There’s no need” Irene said but Seulgi started walking “Fine… you’re going to the wrong way” Seulgi stared at Irene cutely and smiled

“Let’s go then” The girls started walking in a comfortable silence “So… can you answer me now?”

“About what?”

“What’s your name?”

“I owe you that and a lot more right?” Seulgi shrugged

“I don’t want you to repay me you know? I just wanted to help you so no repays” Irene nodded

“I’m Joohyun, but I prefer Irene”

“I like both, both are pretty like you”

“What?” Irene asked and Seulgi noticing what she said almost tripped on her foot

“W-What?” Irene just smiled and decided to change the subject

“I have a sister… I and she were abandoned by our parents and we still don’t know why, since that, we had to live alone and fight for our stuff, I got a small house in a dangerous neighborhood, well at least I have a house and me and she had to work a lot so I can’t complain… she started working when she was 12”

“I am hearing” Seulgi smiled and Irene smiled back in instinct

“Now I have 3 different jobs so that I can pay for her studies” Seulgi nodded

“I know this might sound strange but I have a friend, she’s kinda rich… like hella rich and she needs an assistant… I could talk to her and get you that job. She will probably obligate you to stay at her house once she knows your conditions and she will probably offer herself to pay for your sister’s studies” Irene stopped on her tracks and stared at Seulgi

“I don’t want people to give me a job because they pity me I want them to like me for my intelligence and whatever”

“I’m sorry if I sounded that she was going to give you a job for pity… I didn’t mean it like that, it’s more like a job to help you, you don’t deserve to be in this situation, neither does your sister or other people out there plus you’re still young you deserve a big career and not… live to steal people you know? Plus you look capable of doing that job and you look smart too so the one that loses is my friend”

“I… I’m sorry for sounding mad I just… don’t want people to pity me. Can I think about that?”

“Sure… Do you have a phone?” Irene shook her head “Hm…” Seulgi thought “I could buy you a phone but I’m sure people will try to steal you where you live right?” Irene nodded “Well I can give you my agency card and you can go meet me there when you have your answer”

“That can work” Seulgi nodded while smiling

The two walked a bit more and they finally arrived Irene’s neighbor. Everyone automatically stared at Seulgi since she was wearing expensive clothes. Irene just needed to send them a cold glare that they automatically gave up on Seulgi or trying to follow to rob her.

Irene opened her house’s door and she saw Yeri sleeping on the couch. Seulgi almost tripped on the bags this time and made a huge noise. Irene glared at the clumsy girl and dragged her to the small kitchen to put all the food there.

“Who’s this sis?”

“Holy ing ” Seulgi yelled and that made Irene get startled too

“YERIM” The teenager just laughed. Seulgi was now staring at Yeri with her confused look

“Hi, I am Yeri and you are?”

“Hi! I’m Seulgi”

“Sister I didn’t know you had a sugar mommy” The girl teased, Seulgi just smiled to try to act like she wasn’t flustered

“YERIM” Irene yelled

“I’m not her sugar mommy”

“Girlfriend then?” Irene wanted to hit Yeri on the face with her pan while Seulgi was embarrassed

“NO!” Irene yelled “She’s…”

“A friend”

“A friend I just met… I was going to rob her and she ended buying us all this” Irene said while pointing to all the grocery bags inside their kitchen

“Are you rich?” Yeri asked

“Yerim” Irene called

“What? She’s wearing Gucci”

“I can say that I have a healthy life”

“You’re rich then”

“Well, I don’t like to call it that…”

“Please marry my sister”

“Oh my god… Seulgi I’m sorry” Seulgi just laughed and shrugged

“It’s okay, let me help you with these” Irene let her and ignored Yeri

“Do you want to stay a bit more?”

“I would love to but I need to go home before my best friend sends her dog’s to find me and drag me home by my ”

“W-What?” Seulgi just laughed

“I need to wake up early and I and my best friend are coworkers and she loves to scold me when I get home late because in the morning I always get late” Irene giggled

“I see… thank you Seulgi for all of this… You didn't need to I was going to rob you”

“Yeah and as I said… you were not going to be that lucky because I had money to buy just a bottle of water in my wallet that’s why I helped” Irene nodded

“I’ll still thank you a lot of times”

“I can accept that” The monolid girl giggled “By the way think about my offer hm?” Seulgi gave her card to Irene with her agency address “You can find me there, any time any day” Irene nodded

“Thank you so much Seulgi… I’ll think about it”

“Think with love”

“I will”

“Good, see you tomorrow” Seulgi tried to wink what made Irene laugh, the monolid girl hearing it felt her heart skip some beats “Or maybe next week?” She smiled and Irene giggled and pushed her

“Bye Seulgi… be careful”

“I will. See you soon I hope”

Seulgi left and called Wendy, her other best friend, to talk about the new assistant she for her, she told her about Irene’s story and Wendy was crying on the phone. Wendy accepted automatically the girl even though they had 0 certainties that Irene was going to accept.

Meanwhile, Irene was updating Yeri about all that happened with Seulgi and she even told about the job proposal Seulgi gave her. Yeri, of course, said to her sister to accept it because it was a chance of a lifetime. Irene just told her to go to bed because she had school. The teenager did what her sister told her and went to bed. Irene was sitting near a window just staring outside and thinking about everything.

 

In the morning on the next day, Seulgi was like a zombie going to her job while her friend Joy was scolding her for being home late. Seulgi told the girl what happened, Joy got emotional but still scolded her in the end.

Meanwhile, Irene was taking her sister to her school and Yeri was trying to convince her to go visit Seulgi and accept the job. Irene was just ignoring the girl and almost kicked her inside her school.

“Bye sis, accept that offer”

“Okay okay…” Irene sighed and grabbed the card Seulgi gave her to see the address “This is for Yeri… and Yerim only”

The bunny-like girl got on a bus and went to Seulgi’s agency. She was the whole ride staring at the card and thinking if it was worth it. Well, whatever was her option it was late she was in front already of Seulgi’s agency. She sighed and walked inside, she asked a secretary, that was in the main entrance, for Seulgi.

“Who are you?”

“Hm… Irene”

“Irene what?”

“Bae Irene”

“There’s no one with that name in the list” Irene gulped not knowing what to do next

“Can’t you call her?”

“Ma’am she’s the CEO of this place, she and her friend Joy I don’t think she has time for a person… dressed like you, I’m sure she’s not in the mood to do some charity”

“Look here you-” Irene stopped talking when she felt an arm resting on her shoulders

“I hired you to work for me and organize my stuff, I also hired you so that people that come here to talk to me wait even if I am out, on a reunion or having a and not to judge other people for what they dress, or their race or whatever, you are my secretary, not a fashion judge. Excuse me Miss Joohyun, please follow me”

“E-Excuse me Miss Kang” the secretary apologized and after bowed

“It’s not to me you should apologize it’s to Miss Joohyun, I hope this doesn’t happen again or I’ll have to fire you”

“I’m sorry Miss Joohyun this won’t happen again” Irene that was watching all of this a bit confused just followed Seulgi

“Sorry Irene, for this… I’ll make sure to punish her, I’ll try to know if she did it with other people and if she did so I’ll eventually fire her”

“There’s no need of doing that because of me”

“It’s not only because of you Irene, but I also don’t tolerate any kind of discrimination”

“That’s good thank you for protecting me”

“So what are you doing here?” While the two were chatting they were heading towards Seulgi’s office

“Can we talk inside in a more private place?”

“Sure” Seulgi smiled and led Irene to her office, she pulled the chair for Irene to sit and after sat on hers on the other side of the table “Sooo” Seulgi was smiling
