Runaway

Wedding Crasher

The dance was over and the other guests took over the dance floor once more. She admits that she does love dancing, but she would have preferred if she could do so on her own volition. With the way she performed a waltz with her father earlier, she was plenty sure that a zombie would have done a better job that she did.

“Where were you?“ her husband approached just as she was about to grab a drink from the punch bowl.

“I needed some fresh air.”

“Well you can’t do that again, you’re making me lose face here. Did you know I lost a potential investor earlier just because you weren’t there?”

Eunbi stared, “What does that have to do with me?”

He stared for a while, as if in disbelief before letting out a scoff, “You were supposed to be there to point out my good points! You know, good character!” he made a gesture as if it was the most obvious thing in the world for her to do, “Listen, you see that man right there? That is the CEO of the company that plans to work with us for a future project and we need to gain his trust, you got that?”

Eunbi fought the urge to laugh at how ridiculous everything sounded to her right now. Is this man for real? He was blatantly asking for her to be a tool he could use to gain more plus points in someone else’s book?

This man is already a negative one thousand in hers.

To think that she would have to call him her husband sickens her.

“Why do I have to?” she couldn’t but ask. She didn’t want to be bothered to do anything like this. Lying to a person for the benefit of another? Out of the question.

“You’re my wife.” he frowned, suddenly grabbing her wrist and held on tight, “You do as I say or else—“

“Ah, Mr. Park, it’s nice to finally meet you!” both looked up at the sound of an unfamiliar voice calling out to them, and when their gazes fell onto the source, Eunbi tried her hardest not to express her surprise to see the woman she was talking to earlier standing right in front of her.

“Ah, yes I uh…” he let go of Eunbi’s wrist which she quickly hid behind her, almost too sure that his grip from earlier left marks that would be obvious for anyone to see.

Composing himself, he flashed his clown million-dollar smile again and held out a hand for the woman to take, “Yes, that’s me. You are uh…”

She just smiled, extending out her hand and it almost looked like she was about to shake his hand but had instead reached out behind the man to grab a glass of wine that a passing waiter was carrying on his tray, “I’m Jung Yerin.”

The man withdrew his hand, letting out a nervous chuckle at the act and Eunbi couldn’t help the smile on her lips the moment she saw him lose his composure for a second.

“Right, Jung Yerin-ssi. It’s a pleasure to meet you as well.” he nodded, quickly regaining his composure, “We’re so glad that you could come.”

Eunbi bit her bottom lip to keep herself from breaking out into a grin. He might’ve not realized it, but this Jung Yerin person was definitely an uninvited guest. If he didn’t know who she is and she didn’t, then she most certainly isn’t anyone they know and shouldn’t be here.

She’s a wedding crasher, in short.

And normally wedding crashers would be immediately sent out for the most obvious reasons but Eunbi didn’t want her to go. Amongst all the guests that only cared about whether they looked good for that occasion, this Yerin person didn’t seem to mind how she looked, or how she stood out from the others. It was… like a breath of fresh air amidst all this hypocrisy and façade, there was someone out there being who she wants to be.

She hummed, nodding her head, “I’m glad I did. This place is amazing. You did well to prepare for your wedding day.”

Not to mention it was entertaining how she was leading him on without his knowing.

“Oh, but of course! This is a once in a lifetime moment after all, and I only want the best for Eunbi.”

“Ah… really…?” Yerin’s gaze fell briefly on hers.

There was that look again. Eunbi wanted to know what it meant.

Surprisingly, she turned to her and asked, “Are you having fun though?”

“Of course she is! She—“

“I’m not talking to you.” Yerin cut him off, her eyes narrowing slightly. He seemed taken aback at having been spoken that way.

Even Eunbi was surprised.

And confused.

Shouldn’t wedding crashers be as inconspicuous as much as possible? After all, they’re just there for the free food right? So they shouldn’t be gathering attention to themselves. This woman though, she’s antagonizing the groom and it was the complete opposite of what she’s supposed to do.

A nudge from the side snapped her out of her thoughts and saw that Yerin was waiting for an answer from her.

Eunbi stared back, drawn by the woman’s gaze that made it seem she could read her deepest thoughts. She was tempted to speak the truth: that she didn’t want to be there, that she didn’t want to keep doing all of this, that she wanted run away.

However, as much as she wanted to answer honestly…

“Y-yeah, I am.” Eunbi stammered.

“I see. It must be the first night jitters then?” Yerin chuckled a bit.

Eunbi felt like someone just dumped ice cold water on her.

“Ah yes, of course, we’ve already planned our trip right after this—“

Yerin ignored him, “Is it okay if I can talk to Eunbi for a bit?”

“Huh?”

“I want to talk with Eunbi alone.” Yerin reiterated, “You know, girl talk.”

“Oh, uh…”

“Surely you won’t mind?”

“I-“ he cleared his throat, “Normally I wouldn’t, but I will have to ask what your connection with Eunbi is, Yerin-ssi.”

“We’re friends.” Yerin replied matter-of-factly that even Eunbi was convinced that it was the truth.

“I’ve encountered all of Eunbi’s friends and I don’t remember you at all Yerin-ssi.” he insisted, “In the first place, where is your invitation?”

She just smiled and shrugged, “I don’t have it with me.”

“Then—“

“Because I didn’t come here for you, I came for Eunbi.” she answered, looking over at the surprised bride, “And for you to say that I’m not a friend. Is Eunbi obligated to report every single friendship she has to you?”

“Well… it’s for security purposes—“

“Is Eunbi not an adult?” Yerin placed her wine glass down and folded her arms, staring pointedly at him, “I think she’s old enough to know who to make friends with and who to avoid. These ‘security purposes’ of yours seem unnecessary.”

“But of course, I will have to make sure that they do not have any ulterior motives…”

“You’re openly admitting that you had Eunbi’s friends investigated?”

“T-That’s not…”

“Isn’t that an invasion of privacy?”

“No, no of course not. I get to know them the normal way.” Eunbi could see how he was sweating buckets at this point at the same time she was impressed by Yerin smoothly avoiding the subject about the invitation by putting him on the spot. She could tell how much she’s used to it.

“This means it’s okay for Eunbi to befriend anyone she wishes. You’re already married, and before taking such a big step like this, it should’ve taken years of building up trust with one another or are you telling me you don’t trust her at all?”

“I do, of course, I trust her.” he could only say.

“Then it should be fine if I can speak to her alone since we’re friends.” Yerin raised a brow as if daring him to say any more.

“O-of course.” he swallowed before excusing himself and left the two to do other things. In reality, Eunbi could see that he was running away.

He was probably taken aback since he’s never had someone speak to him that way due to his reputation, so having someone of completely unknown background talk back to him and put him in his place was beyond his capabilities.

“He’s most likely going to check the guest list though.” Yerin suddenly remarked, bringing her attention back to the woman who managed to scare the groom off, “I should run away while I haven’t been caught.”

“So you’re not a guest after all.” Eunbi chuckled.

It was refreshing to be able to laugh at that moment. Considering what she’s been going through since the day began, she would never have thought she would get to even smile genuinely like this.

“Weddings have the best food and the best drinks.” Yerin remarked with smile as she grabbed another glass from a passing waiter, “It’s too much of an opportunity to pass up.”

Yerin then raised her glass towards her as some sort of gesture before taking a sip.

“…Who are you really?” Eunbi stared, “How do you know about me?”

“You’ll be surprised how much people reveal so much information when you smother them with praises. I’m confident I know almost half of your life at this point.” Yerin gestured to one side of the reception area and Eunbi followed, seeing her mother with a bunch of other female relatives and acquaintances having a hearty conversation with them.

Eunbi let out a groan of annoyance. She hates it when her mother talks about her behind her back and all of a sudden she’s able to do things she actually couldn’t do just so she could have the glory of being a mother to such a great daughter.

“You don’t seem to be having much fun compared to what you said earlier.”

“I don’t.” she answered firmly, deciding that she can be honest with this stranger.

“I figured as much. I wouldn’t want to be married to douche like him either.” Yerin nodded.

Eunbi let out another laugh at how unfiltered her choice of words were. It felt nice to finally be able to express her feelings freely for the first time in… forever.

“So? What’s the story behind this wedding?” Yerin probed, gesturing her to go for a walk as her gaze went over to the groom who was now having a heated conversation with the wedding planner.

Eunbi took that as their cue to get out of the wedding planner’s sight as soon as possible.

Without thinking, she grabbed Yerin’s wrist and dragged her away. She doubts she did a good job at hiding though, what with her bridal gown being a dead giveaway to where they can be found but they only needed to avoid the wedding planner as much as they can, so they settled to keep on the move.

It almost felt like an adventure, an opportunity to rebel and go against what they all wanted and she was having a fun time of it. It goes to say that Yerin was a better companion than all other people in this party.

“Arranged marriage?” Yerin raised a brow, “That’s still a thing?”

“Apparently it is.” Eunbi sighed, grabbing a glass for herself. She wasn’t supposed to drink for ‘image’ but who cares, “I don’t even know him that much, just his name and what he does and how he’s connected to our family, but other than that, I feel like I just tied the knot with a stranger.”

“Why didn’t you run away then? Be those brides saying ‘I don’t’ during the exchange of vows and go your merry way to your freedom.” Yerin made exaggerated motions of running that brought another smile on her face.

“I wish it was that easy. I don’t think they’ll let me live if I did. Where would I go? Who would help me? How will I survive by myself when they’ve taken control of everything I should do my entire life?” Eunbi sighed, “I was thinking I’d just figure something out after.”

“Something like that sounds harder than you think.” Yerin pointed out, “Think about it, if you push through with this you’ll have your hands tied, how exactly can you plan your escape with that?”

“That’s…”

Eunbi wasn’t able to say anything against her words, knowing very well that she had a point. She didn’t have exactly the right resources, not to mention she doesn’t even know where to start. For sure if she pushes through with her initial idea, there was no assurance that she’d even succeed with it.

“Prevention is better than cure.” Yerin said, “If you want to prevent a future that you don’t want to happen, the best time is now. You have to make a choice for yourself.”

“Easy for you to say, you look like you do whatever it is you want.”

“That’s what we’re supposed to do, right?” the wedding crasher smiled, “You only live once so live it well. As long as I’m not hurting anyone on the way, then I’m free to enjoy it however I want to.”

“Don’t you have your own priorities to attend to?”

Eunbi seriously doubts that this person could be all play and no work. There’s no money that can be gained from crashing weddings unless of course she does other stuff besides being an uninvited guest.

Doesn’t that sound bad?

She was waiting for an answer but was instead taken by surprise when Yerin grabbed her wrist gently and dragged them away from the spot they were just in. When Eunbi looked back, she could see their wedding planner looking around for any sight of them just in time they managed to duck behind an overgrown shrub. The venue was enclosed by tall shrubs that served like boundaries or walls to keep some uninvited guests away, but tall enough enough for onlookers to peek in if they wanted to. It was as if they were in the middle of a garden maze, only there was no chance of them getting lost, so looking for hiding spots to keep out of the wedding planner’s sight was an easy task.

It was like a game of cat and mouse, with them being two ‘Jerrys’ making sure that ‘Tom’ doesn’t see them. More than that though, she noticed Yerin laughing.

“Ah, they at hide and seek really.” she remarked, looking over at the wedding planner, “I’m more surprised she hasn’t called for help at this point. Oh, Eunbi, Eunbi, look.” she pointed at her husband, “Really… flirting with the bridesmaid on his wedding day.”

“I’m not surprised anymore.”

What can she do about it anyway? It wasn’t as if she could just yell at him in the middle of all these people. If she did, he’d most likely just play the victim card again, so she won’t bother.

“People around you are stupid.”

“Does that include you?” Eunbi teased, a small smile playing on her lips as she asked. Yerin seemed taken aback by her words but decided to play along, placing a hand on her chest, pretending that she was hurt.

“Me? Stupid? No way!”

“Who would walk into an all white wedding wearing a black attire anyway?” the bride pointed out.

Yerin looked down at her clothes with a small pout that Eunbi couldn’t help but find cute before saying, “Okay, I’ll admit that was some carelessness in my part but not stupid~!”

With the way she acts like this, Eunbi could find herself having fun teasing this person.

“I haven’t heard of any wedding with a black motif.”

“The last wedding I went to had one.”

“Maybe it was a funeral.”

“Sure, the person in the casket rose up from the dead to say ‘I do’.” Yerin retorted with a blank look that Eunbi couldn’t help but laugh at.

“And anyway, to answer your question, I do have a job. I also have to earn my keep after all.” Yerin continued, “But that doesn’t exactly keep me from doing what I like to do. I earn money to do things and go places.”

“Like crashing weddings.”

“I’d like to call it a gateway to free food.”

“Any other bride would have kicked you out as soon as they catch you though.”

“You underestimate me.” she pouted, “And besides, I don’t just crash into any person’s wedding.”

Eunbi raised a brow in interest when she heard those words. It sounded as if she was actually careful on which party to invade before heading in. She didn’t know how they do it, after all it was already a big deal showing up to a party you’re not even invited in. Was there a procedure to be followed? Were there rules?

Wait a second, why was she so interested anyway?

“Why did you crash into mine then?” Eunbi asked, interested in the reason why Yerin particularly chose this wedding in the first place.

“Weddings like this are obviously all just for show.” she answered with a bit of a serious tone in her voice, “It’s merely a big business gathering for these conglomerates, not even respecting the sanctity of the ceremony. Your husband was more focused on potential investors and projects that would give them millions instead of what the sole purpose of having a ceremony like this done in the first place and I’m more than glad that I’m here to ruin it.”

The bride could only stare at Yerin in a slightly dumbfounded state. She’s always thought that this stranger was just a party animal looking for free food and maybe find someone to flirt with, but in reality she’s just repeatedly reminding every bride and groom whose wedding ceremony she crashes what the whole thing was supposed to be about.

It almost seems like she’s on a life mission.

“That’s quite a noble cause you have there.”

“You don’t think it’s just me justifying what I’m doing?”

Eunbi shook her head, “Even if you did say that you’re just here to party, I would still be thankful. I really wanted to ruin this day in all the ways possible.”

“Then let’s ruin it more!” Yerin remarked excitedly.

“Huh?”

Wait, what did she mean by that?

“Weddings are supposed to be a dream come true for the brides, but this is obviously a nightmare going on for you.” she explained, “So let’s make it into a dream come true.”

Eunbi shook her head, “I-I don’t… understand?”

She was confused where Yerin was going on with this. Ruin it more how? Was she going to literally wreck havoc on the site? Was she going to destroy property? Or maybe hold someone hostage?

“Why are you looking at me like I’m about to do something illegal?”

“Because you sound like you’re about to do something that’ll get both of us in jail?”

“Hey, we’re planning something to set you free, not get you caged for real.” Yerin stared blankly.

Eunbi let out a sigh of relief.

“…That’s a lot of trust in me right there.” the wedding crasher couldn’t help but remark after seeing the look of relief on the bride’s face.

“How can you talk to me about trust when we literally just met a few hours ago and you come with me with that mysterious aura when all you are is a dork.” Eunbi retorted, “You’re a bit too hard to read.”

Yerin leaned forward, “Have I gotten you interested?”

“You can try harder.”

Yerin pouted again, and this time, Eunbi thought that she was starting to find those cute expressions of hers irresistible.

Look, she’s even calling her cute now.

Stop being so cu- pouting. Stop pouting.

Eunbi didn’t want to admit it, but Yerin is actually quite attractive in her own right. There was something in her gaze that she finds herself unable to look away from, and drew her to the older woman. If it was a romantic kind of attraction or not was yet to be determined. It was obvious though, between Yerin and her husband, she would definitely go for Yerin more.

She doesn’t know much about the woman, but she seems to be the type to wear her heart on her sleeve, at the same time she makes you think that there’s something more to her than what meets the eye. It was kind of interesting, and Eunbi certainly doesn’t mind if she could get to know her more. Yerin was her type, there was no use denying that. Despite her trying to brush her off with her obvious advances, Eunbi found their exchange fun and it seems like they were always on the same page with the way they interact with each other.

She may act uninterested, but Yerin probably knew that it was just playful banter on her part.

Under different circumstances, she would certainly want to get to know her better, maybe hang out and go on first dates. Yerin seemed to think the same way.

Unfortunately.

“Yerin-ssi.” Eunbi wanted to say her name one more time, and she liked how it rolled off her tongue nicely. She would probably not tire saying the name over and over again if it comes to it.

“Hey, I think we’re past formalities at this point right?”

“…Yerin.” she quickly corrected herself, smiling when she saw the woman nodding her head in approval.

“I’d really like to get to know you more.” Eunbi admitted.

“Oh?” Yerin’s brows raised in mock surprise, but Eunbi could see how pleased she was to hear it.

“You seem like a fun person to be with.”

“I don’t seem like a fun person to be with. I am a fun to be with.” Yerin clicked her tongue at Eunbi’s choice of words that brought a small smile to the bride’s face.

Right, this playful personality just makes her more interesting. She was like someone who would goof around most of the time until she surprises you with how deep she actually thinks about certain things.

“But why not, Eunbi?” Yerin asked, “I don’t see anything wrong with us hanging out after this anyway. I’d love to take you out on a date too. Maybe we can crash a wedding together?”

Eunbi momentarily thought about how nice that sounded until the situation she was in seem to have woken her up from her daydream.

She sighed, “Are you forgetting I just got married?”

She absolutely hated it.

The fact that there was something she desperately wanted to do, but couldn’t. How it was within reach, but she will never have it. It was like life was making a big joke out of her right now.

Why did she have to meet someone like Yerin when it was already too late?

Yerin just hummed in reply. When Eunbi looked over, she looked to be deep in thought, or that was what she thinks before Yerin suddenly beamed a smile in her direction, completely dispelling her worries and depressing thoughts regarding her situation.

Eunbi couldn’t help but be mesmerized by it. Was she looking at the sun? The actual sun was setting, but it felt like it was the sun was high up in the clouds and beaming down at her. How can someone have such a bright smile like that?

“It’s almost the bouquet toss.” Yerin said out of the blue, even catching Eunbi off-guard with how spontaneously she had brought up the topic. Not to mention she didn’t really want to think of the wedding right now.

“I want to throw away the bouquet in the trash.” she grumbled.

“Don’t~” Yerin whined, “I wanna catch it.”

Eunbi looked at her with a judging stare, “Why? You want to get married already?”

“I do.”

Eunbi couldn’t help but feel a slight hint of jealousy boiling up in her but she quashed it down before it grew into anything. It was just normal after all. Yerin might be crazy, but she was reasonable enough to not take a step further with a married woman like her.

“Huh. Who’s the unlucky woman then?”

Yerin just smiled, “You.”

Eunbi blinked.

“Huh?”

Yerin reached forward to hold her hand in hers, looking straight into Eunbi’s eyes as she continued, “Let’s ruin this wedding and make it a dream come true for you.”

---

Eunbi didn’t exactly understand what Yerin was planning, it was even more ridiculous that she went along with what she said without even asking for more details. She had reluctantly went back to the reception, without Yerin by her side for the most obvious reasons, and received a massive scolding from her parents, her husband and underwent an extensive interrogation from the wedding planner who was still on the hunt for Yerin.

She didn’t even know where the woman went off to. After telling her to throw the bouquet as far as she could, she just bolted off to who knows where and completely disappeared from sight. Yerin didn’t even explain to her what’s her deal with the bouquet, but if she wanted her to toss it far, then she’ll make sure it’s far enough to have a discus thrower cry in shame. She’s got nothing to lose anyway.

That, and she held a small belief in Yerin’s words.

“Right. Let’s make this into a dream come true.” she mumbled to herself as the mc for that night finally took the stage again and began speaking to the crowd, announcing that it was time for the bouquet toss and almost as soon as he said it, a crowd of women, some people Eunbi didn’t even know, began to flock behind her as the wedding planner gave her the flowers.

She doesn’t even understand how they can be so excited over something like this.

Eunbi held the object tightly in her hands, noticing the men watching over at the side while the women were looking at her expectantly with wide excited grins on their faces. She doesn’t even bother trying to understand what was going on in their minds.

Maybe she can just toss it over to the men for fun.

Yeah, she can do that.

Turning around, everyone was mostly silent while the speakers did all the noise making as everyone waited with bated breath.

Eunbi just smiled, crouching low before tossing it high up into the air.

It was when the flowers were flying that screams began to fill the place. Everyone’s eyes were trained on it while the bride just watched in slight amusement as the women fought tooth and nail reaching up and desperately trying to catch the object.

In that minute, all she could think of was how hilarious they looked all stumbling towards the men (she had thrown the bouquet that way for fun) and practically wrestling each other for it like rugby players. She was completely distracted by the display that she failed to sense the presence coming up from behind her.

When a hand suddenly wrapped around her wrist, she jumped in surprise, looking up abruptly to see who it was but barely managed to do so as the person began pulling her away from the place before she even realized what was going on.

“Y-Yerin?!” she stared, seeing the woman pulling at her hand hurriedly.

“Come on!”

“W-Wait, where are we--?”

Even though her mind wasn’t able to register what was happening, she was already unconsciously running off with her. They were heading off towards the fountain where they first met, and was quickly making their way to the streets not far from where the reception was being held.

It took a few minutes before she finally understood what was going on.

They were running away.

She was running away.

“Yerin—“

“I’ll explain later, more running Eunbi! Make use of those pretty legs of yours!”

Eunbi slapped her arm in reply but a huge grin was breaking out on her face that she can’t seem to hold back.

She asked Yerin to wait a second before reaching down and slipping off her heels, resuming their run right after.

“What are you, Cinderella?” Yerin joked, witnessing for herself how she tossed the expensive looking shoes aside.

“At least I didn’t leave one for them to find me.” Eunbi replied, mirroring the woman’s grin on her own.

There were a lot of thoughts currently going through her mind that time. Most of them were worries. She was basically running away not just from the wedding but also her life. One that she’s lived for the past years and she knew that it would take a lot to turn away from something that she’s gotten so used to, but… she finds it strange how she sincerely believes that Yerin will be there for her and everything will turn out fine.

At one point, the organizers seemed to have finally noticed that she was gone and everyone was madly searching for her as evidenced by the loud yells coming from the reception area. Eunbi could even clearly hear her father’s booming voice shouting at their bodyguards to get her back no matter what.

“In here!” Yerin pulled again, as they hid in a junction between two tall shrubs that they forcefully squeezed themselves into as they heard the grass scrunching under the feet of the bodyguards who were quick to catch up to them. Eunbi could only wait with bated breath as they rushed past the spot and it was only when they were gone that she actually registered the current position they were in.

One thing’s for sure, Yerin has really soft skin.

She had somehow found her arms wrapped around the woman’s torso while Yerin’s arms had pulled her close, any form of personal space in between them becoming nonexistent.

She smelled nice. This is nice. Would it be okay for them to stay this way for a bit longer?

“They’re gone.” Yerin remarked after a few minutes, looking over her shoulder for any sign of the guards while staying silent just in case, “We should keep moving.”

“Right…” Eunbi cleared to keep her disappointment from showing, “Let’s go.”

Resuming their run, Yerin kept a firm hold of the woman’s wrist as they finally made their way towards the street.

“Don’t worry, you’ll get more cuddles from me after this.” Yerin assured her with a knowing smile towards her direction.

“With the way your hand was on my earlier? I don’t think so, ert.”

“It was an accident!”

“It looked like natural instinct to me.”

“Not my fault you’re too attractive.”

Eunbi didn’t want to admit it, but she couldn’t help but be taken off-guard whenever Yerin openly flirted with her like this. She’d had her share of people trying to make advances on her, but she’s always managed to shut them off or told them to get lost, but this time she’s weirdly enjoying herself when it comes to Yerin doing it.

She’s like an anomaly to her. One moment she’s completely serious and deep, next you know she’s bright and playful. She doesn’t understand how she can openly trust someone so confusing, but deep inside her it just told her that everything is going to be fine.

There was a possibility that Yerin was actually kidnapping her and was going to hold her for ransom, but that seemed unlikely.

They finally made it to the street where a black car was waiting with its lights on and a person currently on the driver’s seat.

Okay, maybe the kidnapping idea wasn’t all that ridiculous…

“Ladies first.” Yerin remarked with a cheeky grin as she hastily opened the door for her.

Eunbi breathed out a laugh, “You’re a lady too.”

“But you’re the pretty one in a pretty dress.” she winked. She could only roll her eyes at that before getting in, Yerin following behind as soon as she saw her settled in.

“Oh.” the driver spoke as soon as Yerin closed the door, “Oh wow, Yerin-unnie what kind of big trouble did you get yourself into this time?”

Yerin just grinned, looking over at Eunbi who just stared back curiously.

“We ruined a wedding.”

---

“Yerin, we may have run away but I realize in the end that I’m still married to him.” Eunbi told her a few days after their stunt.

After the ride, Yerin had brought them to her home and invited Eunbi to stay with her for the meantime, though she was sure that it was going to be for a long time. She did point that out to Yerin and got a reply saying that she doesn’t mind. Eunbi could see why she had the confidence to let her stay with her for an undetermined amount of time with how nice her home looked. One would immediately know that Yerin was doing quite well financially. Eunbi did ask to make sure if she was okay with it and got an eager yes as an answer.

“I knew what I got myself into the moment I dragged you away with me.” Yerin had told her, “From now on, this is your home too.”

Needless to say, she cried her heart out after that. The entire weight of the situation finally seemed to dawn on her and caused to break down. It wasn’t a pleasing sight, but she was thankful that Yerin didn’t about it, and didn’t bother bringing it up as well. She hated being reminded of her embarrassing moments, no matter how much Yerin insisted that it was just normal for her to act that way.

Going back to the present, the two were currently bundled up on the living room couch, watching some movies that they found interesting after flipping through numerous channels. It was then that Eunbi had that sudden thought that made her heart sink to her stomach.

“Oh, right, you did marry that guy.” Yerin agreed.

“So I’m still bound to him. I don’t know much about the law, but I know I’m still tied to him unless we agree on a divorce.” Eunbi voiced out her worries as her companion listened, “So I’m not exactly free from him, right?”

“Not really.” Yerin answered nonchalantly.

“Huh?”

“You’re not bound to him in any way.” she clarified, “You never signed any documents in the first place. You were supposed to do that during or after the ceremony. As far as I remember, stuff like that is done before the reception even starts, or when the wedding ended, but everyone was too eager for the party that they probably decided to put it off for later. If you haven’t signed any marriage document, then you’re still a free woman.”

Eunbi stared at Yerin in disbelief, hanging open slightly at the revelation.

“So I can take this off?” she raised her left hand, showing the wedding ring that she still wore.

“Why haven’t you taken it off?”

“I dunno, I think I even forgot it was there in the first place.”

“How can you forget when it’s been days since the wedding?” Yerin shook her head in slight amusement before scooting closer and bringing Eunbi in for a hug which the latter didn’t shy away from. Needless to say they did get a bit closer for the past days, but they’ve made sure to take everything one step at a time. They focused on getting to know each other more, and one of the things that Eunbi discovered was that Yerin had the tendency to get extremely clingy for various reasons. She had shied away from the first attempts but soon gotten used to it.

So now that she was in Yerin’s arms again, she just refocused her attention back to the TV screen while Yerin made herself comfortable and she, resting her head comfortably against the older woman’s neck.

“Are you worried about them?” Yerin mumbled.

“I don’t think I’m worried… More like I’m still getting used to it, I guess. They’ve been breathing behind my back for as long as I can remember, so everything’s not sinking in just yet.”

“Well you just take all the time you need.” Yerin pat her head affectionately that she found herself unconsciously smiling to.

“Thanks Yerin.”

The woman just chuckled and Eunbi understood why. There wasn’t a single hour or minute that she hasn’t expressed her gratitude to the woman for what happened. She could have possibly gotten into trouble, but Yerin didn’t mind. She probably didn’t care, and she’s been extremely focused on making sure Eunbi got what she needed.

It didn’t come for free, of course. Yerin slowly began teaching her how it was to live independently, teaching her how to go about with house chores: starting with cooking.

Needless to say, she had a lot of work cut out for her.

But despite that, it was very fulfilling to finally do things without the aid of anyone else, without her being pressured to do well. She could relax and just take things at her own pace, and that was what Yerin provided her.

Until now it was still hard to believe that she’d get to experience all of these things.

She could only hope that the peaceful and fulfilling days could go on like this, and maybe one day she can finally fend for herself and take care of Yerin this time.

Unfortunately…
