A Hidden Agenda

The Greatest Con Man

The next morning, Jongwoon kept his promise and gave Kyuhyun a fortune-telling session.

"What aspect of your life do you want me to do the fortune-telling?"

"My love life, of course,"

"Alright, do you have anyone you like?"

"Yes, I do." Kyuhyun looked at Jongwoon and smiled.

"Oh," Jongwoon didn't know why he suddenly felt disappointed, "Then you have to think of that person while you shuffle the cards."

Jongwoon tried his best not to blush when Kyuhyun stared fixedly at him while he shuffling the cards. This person was really weird, he thought to himself. Usually, his clients closed their eyes while doing this to better think of whoever on their minds. Kyuhyun was the first person who didn't do that and openly stared at him instead.

"Done, now what?"

"Pick any three cards from the deck and place them on the table in order."

"Here,"

"Alright, so these three cards represent your past, present, and future. Let's see the first card. The Temperance, it represents a change, I guess you and that person probably don't know each other before?"

"Hey, you're spot on!"

"Move on to the next card, your present, oh, the Lovers! It means that you and that person you like are meant to be together!"

"I sure hope so," Kyuhyun tilted his head and smiled at Jongwoon.

"The last one, your future, oh my... The World! You and that person definitely have a happy ending waiting for you in the future! Congrats!"

"That's awesome! I can't wait for the day when he finally realizes my feeling to come."

Seeing how Kyuhyun was so visibly happy hearing his fortune, Jongwoon couldn't help but ask about the person Kyuhyun liked. Not that it bothered him or what!

"Well," Kyuhyun smiled mysteriously, "Actually, you know him because he also studies in Psychology Faculty."

"Really!? Who?"

"Black hair, black eye, beautiful smile, chubby cheeks, shorter than me, pale skin, an introvert who's surprisingly friendly. Does it ring any bells?"

Jongwoon frowned as he tried to come up with anyone in his faculty who matched Kyuhyun's description. It took him some time but he finally got it. He grinned smugly and spoke up.

"Kyuhyun, come pick me up this Saturday at nine a.m. I have a wonderful plan to help you with your love life!"

*********************************

"What're we doing here again?"

"It's for you to spend time with your crush, of course! It's Lee Sungmin-ssi, right? The person you like? He fits every description you told me!"

"What!?"

"Hehe, surprised that I guess it right in one go, right! Don't thank me, this is nothing comparing to what you did for us."

"Wait, Jongwoon, that wasn't what I meant..."

"Don't worry about Hae-ah and Hyuk-ah. They are already used to waiting for me. Have fun getting to know your crush! My shift is about to start soon so I'll go now."

Lee Sungmin was a sophomore studying in the same faculty with Jongwoon. They barely knew each other because their personalities didn't match well, but he still knew that Sungmin was a regular customer at the restaurant where he did a part-time job. That was why he had Kyuhyun take him here, so he could get to know Sungmin better. Jongwoon smiled brightly and patted Kyuhyun's shoulder before walking off, not knowing that the other man staring after his back with a bewildered expression. Donghae and Hyukjae who sat opposite to Kyuhyun leaning over a table to pat his arms in an understanding manner. Looking utterly confused, Kyuhyun spoke up to the boys with an incredulous expression.

"Is Jongwoon playing hard to get or is he really that dense?"

"Woonie hyung is just dense. His mind is too simple to understand the concept of playing hard to get."

"You can't blame him though. His parents abandon him, no one wants to adopt him, he thinks that he doesn't deserve any love and care, even though he actually deserves the world! You agree with me, right? Kyuhyun hyung?"

"Absolutely," Kyuhyun eagerly nodded, "And I'll see to it myself that he understands that."

"I know we can count on you to make Woonie hyung happy. By the way, can we order something to eat while we're at it?"

"Sure, go ahead,"

"You're the best, Kyuhyun hyung. We solemnly swear that we'll help you win Jongwoon hyung's heart."

"Really? I'll count on you two then."

Kyuhyun chuckled and called a waiter to place orders.

.

.

.

.

"Why did Jongwoon have to wear that stupid devil horns headband? I don't like it, it makes him look stupidly y and people won't stop gawking at him."

"Well, that's exactly the reason why mister owner has Woonie hyung wear it, to attract customers."

"Why did Jongwoon blush at that man? He didn't have a crush on that guy, did he?"

"Jongwoon hyung probably gets him a wrong order. He's that easy to get flustered, nothing Kyuhyun hyung have to worry about."

"Who is that shortie? He keeps chatting with Jongwoon even though it's work time."

"His name is Kim Ryeowook, last year in high school, also another part-time worker here. I don't think he likes Jongwoon hyung that way, not sure though."

"Hyung! You need to do something about your jealousy if you get irritated with these silly things! Or else you'll definitely implode and die after seeing 'that'!"

Kyuhyun did implode and die when he saw 'that' that Donghae talked about.

"You’re so beautiful, It’s so sweet of you

I wanna keep dreaming with you

You’re so wonderful, Always think of you

I’m gonna sleep a little more."

Sitting on a stool on the stage with a microphone in his hand was Jongwoon who smiled sweetly at the audience. His deep and unique voice gently lured everyone to peaceful trance with a leisure song. Turned out Jongwoon's job wasn't only a waiter but he was also the restaurant's singer. Kyuhyun was deeply conflicted. On one hand, he was obviously happy to hear Jongwoon sing, hell, he even felt like he fell in love with Jongwoon more. On the other hand, he hated the way other people staring at Jongwoon with a dreamy gaze, especially that shortie Kim Ryeowook who wouldn't stop grinning stupidly at Jongwoon. Ryeowook was sitting on the stage with Jongwoon playing piano. He began to suspect that Ryeowook might have a crush on Jongwoon. While Kyuhyun was silently cursing everyone who smiled at Jongwoon, he noticed that there was one person who stared at Ryeowook instead of Jongwoon.

Lee Sungmin.

"Donghae, Hyukjae, wait for me here, I have something to do."

.

.

.

.

"Woonie hyung! Your voice is the best, as usual!"

"For real Jongwoon hyung, I almost cried when you sang It Has to Be You."

"Thanks! By the way, where is Kyuhyun?"

"He has been chatting with that guy for a while now."

Looking to where his brothers pointed at, Jongwoon saw Kyuhyun sitting with Sungmin. He didn't know what they were talking about, but both men were smiling and laughing at each other. For some reason, seeing Kyuhyun smiling at Sungmin made his chest hurt but he quickly buried it deep down.

"Jongwoon hyung, you're as amazing as ever! Oh, hi, Donghae-ah, Hyukjae-ah!"

"You're exaggerating again, Ryeowook-ah."

Jongwoon humbly deflected the praise but he still looked genuinely happy to hear that. Ryeowook beamed and suddenly hugged the older man, startling Jongwoon a bit. He laughed and was about to hug Ryeowook back, but someone took Ryeowook's hands off his waist and shook it firmly instead.

"Your piano skill is amazing too. Right, Sungmin?"

"Absolutely! Wookie is the best when it comes to playing piano."

"Sungmin hyung! You're making me blush! And you are?"

"Cho Kyuhyun, I'm Jongwoon and Sungmin's friend."

"Oh, then you're older than me. Nice to meet you, Kyuhyun-ssi."

"Nice to meet you too. By the way, Jongwoon, your voice is as gorgeous as your face. I'd love to hear you sing more."

"T-Thank,"

"I want to hear it more too! You too, right, Sungmin hyung?"

"That'd be nice, but it'd be nicer if I get to see you play piano more."

While the four older men were 'talking' with each other, Donghae and Hyukjae were munching on their potato chips at the side, and enjoyed themselves with a mini-drama unfolding before their eyes.

.

.

.

.

"My shift is over now. Kyuhyun, thank you so much for looking after my brothers all day but I won't bother you anymore."

"You didn't bother me, not at all. Besides, I'm thinking about taking you and your brothers to have dinner together. Say, what you two want to eat?"

""Pizza!"" Donghae and Hyukjae happily replied.

"Alright," Kyuhyun smiled, "A pizza then!"

"What? No, we already have food at home, why would we have something else? Most importantly, you should stop doing this Kyuhyun. Seriously, at this rate, I won't be able to pay you back even if I read your fortune every day for the rest of my life!"

"You should take it easy, Jongwoon. I told you that I like your brothers, right? What's wrong with spoiling them?"

"But I don't want to owe you any more than this..."

"Well, how about you become my personal love life coach? Apart from reading my fortune, you have to help me win my crush's heart."

"Hmm... It's better than doing nothing, I supposed. Alright, what do I have to do?"

"Easy, you'll stay by my side as much as possible. I'll pick you up in the morning, we'll pick up Donghae and Hyukjae together and I'll drive you home. Then, I'll come with you here every weekend, you know, so I can spend more time with my crush?"

"Oh, because Sungmin-ssi is a regular here! I get that, but why do I have to stick with you all the time?"

"Because you're my personal coach."

"Is that even makes sense?"

"It makes perfect sense, right? Donghae? Hyukjae?"

""Yes, Kyuhyun hyung, it makes perfect sense!""

"Really? Well, if everyone said so, I guess it does make sense..."

"I'm glad you understand it. Let's go, I know the best pizza place not far from here."

*************************************

The place that Kyuhyun talked about was a famous Italian restaurant with a unique name, the Grim Reaper. It was located in a five-star hotel owned by Kyuhyun's family. As soon as they stepped into the luxurious hotel, they were personally welcomed by the manager himself. Though Kyuhyun quickly dismissed the man knowing that Jongwoon was uncomfortable with such treatment. Kyuhyun happily led Jongwoon and his brothers to the restaurant. Their group got the best table by the tall window where the scenery of city at night could be seen. While Donghae and Hyukjae were arguing about what to order, Jongwoon was looking around nervously. Kyuhyun who sat beside him chuckled softly and gently squeezed his shoulder.

"Jongwoon, relax! You look like you're about to faint any time soon!"

"Well, excuse me young master Cho, but how can I relax? I'm not born to this so I can't get used to it unlike you."

"Well, maybe you should start getting used to it now."

"What?"

"I mean, from now on you'll be my personal love life coach, right? Better getting used to it now for your sake in the future."

Kyuhyun smiled sweetly and turned his attention to the two kids, not knowing that Jongwoon secretly stared at him and blushed slightly.

.

.

.

Jongwoon went to a restroom while they waited for their order. At the same time, Donghae and Hyukjae were having a pep talk with Kyuhyun.

"Shower him with love and care, that's a sure way to win Woonie hyung's heart."

"As we told you, Jongwoon hyung has never experienced stuff like love and care so he really craves for it, though he won't openly admit it."

"He also loves skinship, like, really loves it. Woonie hyung won't ever say it, but he actually enjoys touching people and vice versa."

"Pay attention to something small that he likes is great too. Jongwoon hyung definitely appreciates that."

.

.

.

"I heard from your brothers that you don't like eating flour, right? Put those crusts in my plate, I'll eat them for you."

"Thank you, you're very considerate, Kyuhyun."

"You look like someone who is weak to alcohol so I ordered a punch instead. Is that alright with you?"

"How did you know that? But thanks."

"Be careful, the chilly sauce here is very spicy."

"Really? Thanks for the warning! I almost pour it too much just now."

"You can't eat too much, right? Why don't we stretch our legs a bit and watch the view together while Donghae and Hyukjae taking care of the rest of the meal?"

"Huh? What about you? You even eat less than me!"

"Truth be told, just looking at your brothers eating is enough to make me feel full! Now, shall we?"

Kyuhyun smiled warmly and extended his hand to the other man. Jongwoon hesitated a bit but eventually placed his hand on the waiting palm. Pulling Jongwoon up from his seat, Kyuhyun led them to stand in front of the tall window. Letting go of Kyuhyun's hand, Jongwoon stared out to the scenery of the city at night. The restaurant located on the rooftop so he could easily see the whole city from here.

"Are you this nice to all of your employees?"

"Well, I'm generally a good employer, but I'm exceptionally nice to you because you're special."

"S-Special!? Oh! Right, that's because I'm your personal love life coach, right?"

"Yes, you're very special to me."

Jongwoon tried his hardest not to blush but failed sadly. He didn't want Kyuhyun to see his bright red face so he pretended to look down at his hands. However, it only made him blush more when he recalled that they were holding hands just now. In fact, he still remembered the feeling of Kyuhyun's bigger hand gently holding on to his small hand. He suddenly wanted Kyuhyun to hold his hand again. Playing with his fingers nervously, Jongwoon debated whether it was appropriate or not to ask Kyuhyun about that...

"You know, you can hold my hand if you want."

"W-What!? Why did you know that!? Did you read my mind!?"

"So I was right then?" Kyuhyun smirked, "I saw you keep staring at your hands so I just guessed that."

"Well... You're right. So... Can I...?"

Instead of answering, Kyuhyun smiled and extended his hand to him. He gingerly placed his hand on Kyuhyun's hand and slowly intertwined their hands. Jongwoon couldn't help but smile noticing how their hands seemed to mysteriously fit together. Holding their hands more firmly, he looked up and beamed at Kyuhyun.

"Thank you, I really mean it. It's been a while since I get to hold someone's hand who isn't Hae-ah or Hyuk-ah."

"I'm glad to be of service to you. By the way, I really like your small hand, it's cute. I wouldn't mind holding it for the rest of my life."

This time, even if he wanted to stop it, he couldn't do it. Jongwoon's face immediately heated up and he quickly pulled his hand off Kyuhyun's warm hand.

"T-Thank you for your kindness, but I wouldn't go that far but thank you anyway. Oh! Right! I-I need to use a restroom so please excuse me!"

Watching their brother running off with a bright red face, Donghae and Hyukjae turned to raise their thumbs at Kyuhyun.

"That was super duper smooth! I can literally count the day Woonie hyung giving in to you, Kyuhyun hyung!"

"Hae-ah is right. So, when will we discuss Jongwoon hyung's dowry?"

"Kids, you can't talk about something like that when you still have tomato sauce on your face!"

Walking back to their table, Kyuhyun laughed and gently used a napkin to wipe Donghae and Hyukjae's mouths. After returning to his seat, he called a waiter to order a dessert. Kyuhyun smiled fondly and ruffled the kids' heads as they argued about what to order.

.

.

.

At the same time, Jongwoon who got flustered and ran off actually didn't go to the restroom. He only wanted to get away from the source of his fluttered heart, aka Kyuhyun. That was why he saw Kyuhyun's interaction with the kids, how he wiping their mouths and ruffling their heads. He couldn't help but smile at the scene. He used to think that rich people like Kyuhyun would be all high and arrogant. However, Kyuhyun was very kind and down to earth. He seemed to genuinely like the kids and the kids also liked him.

If I'm going to have a lover, it has to be someone who is kind and gets along with my brothers like Kyuhyun.

As soon as Jongwoon realized what he was thinking, he quickly shook the silly idea out of his mind. No, he had to know his place. Kyuhyun and he lived in a totally different world, there was no way they could be together. He was nothing but Kyuhyun's personal love life coach and his job was helping Kyuhyun to win his crush's heart, and that person was Lee Sungmin, not him. Jongwoon smiled bitterly and reminded himself not to fall for Kyuhyun. It was as clear as day that he would only end up with heartbreak. Still...

It's alright if I want to be selfish a bit and bask in Kyuhyun's kindness a little more, right?

Jongwoon thought to himself as he returned to their table. He hid his melancholy thought under a bright smile as he thanked Kyuhyun for ordering a coffee for him.
