Prologue
IntertwineI have a working theory that Big Things only happen to my life on Wednesdays.
For instance, my father passed away just before my third birthday that fell on the second Wednesday of April 2002, and even when it wasn’t personally pivotal to me—his death had made my mother move to another continent. Hadn’t she moved, I would be living in San Francisco instead of Korea right now.
I also broke my arm when I was ten while walking home after school under the pouring rain. I’d cried on the rest of the walk home, too afraid to ask for someone else’s help aside from my mom’s. As I told my mom about the stupid, wet asphalt that made me slip on the sidewalk, though, my mom had muttered, “Why did this have to happen on a Wednesday, out of all days? I have a midnight shift every Thursday.”
I realize then that my Wednesdays must’ve been my… special day. I’d remembered correctly right then that I’d won my first spelling bee competition on 5th October 2006, and that had been on a Wednesday.
To support my theory even more, the first time I got drunk was also on a Wednesday night, where I’d chugged down a bottle of soju when the clock midnight this year in Baekhyun’s New Year’s Party, and then right after that had my first hook up with a boy I barely even knew.
