Apology
Revenge is not always sweetIt’s been one hell of a week. After their break-up seemed nobody in their right mind anymore. Byulyi would always be staring at the ceiling or at the window behind her desk. Yongsun was trying to act as if everything was alright again, but nothing was alright. It was empty. It felt lonely without Byulyi and even though Yongsun should be hating Byulyi, she doesn’t do it. She just misses her greasy hamster.
They did not talk to each other again, even though they would be seeing each other every day because of the same courses. Nobody dared to say anything, even their friends seemed to understand, that there had to be a big altercation.
Byulyi would always be staring at Yongsun from behind, but every time Yongsun turned around, Byulyi hid behind her classmate. He was big enough to hide her completely. But sometimes Byulyi wished, that Yongsun would see her staring at her, but it was always just wishful thinking.
Flashback
“Irene! I did a very big mistake. , I ruined it all. But now I finally have my revenge.” – Yongsun shouted to her best friend
“Great, but did you have to wake me up in the middle of the night? You know, you could have told me tomorrow, too.” – Irene said tiredly with her sleepy voice
“I know. But this is definitely big news. I finally broke Byulyis heart. I could finally take my revenge on her. It’s all finished.” – Yongsun
“Good to hear. How are you feeling now? Relieved? Stress-free? Happy?” – Joo-Hyun asked carefully
“I don’t know. I think I am relieved that it’s finally over, but I am also sad and frustrated. It’s complicated, I don’t know what to feel or think anymore.” – Yongsun sighed
“But you are finally free, and you took your revenge, isn’t it everything you wanted? Shouldn’t you be cheerier and bounce around?” – Irene
“I think it was a mistake to break up with her. I should be feeling alleviated, but I am guilty and it’s as if something is depressing me.” – Yongsun
“Do you think that it was the right decision to break up with her?” – Joo-Hyun
“I don’t know.” Yongsun sighed “I hated her at the beginning, but not anymore. From time to time I could feel myself falling more in love with her and was my mistake. I shouldn’t have felt that way. Now it’s over and I don’t think that she would ever want to talk to me again.”
“If you are truly feeling guilty and regretful, maybe it’s the best if you apologize? I am not saying that you should do it, but if you are hundred per cent sure, that it was a mistake, then run to her and tell her how sorry you are. Tell her everything. Tell her why you did all this. I am sure that she is gonna forgive you. You know her the best and from the things I could see is that she is a very caring and warm-hearted person.” – Joo-Hyun said with her eyes staring directly at Yongsun
“Thanks, Irene. Now I know what I am going to do. Wish me all the best.” – Yongsun said as she stood up from the kitchen chair
“No reason to thank me. That’s what best friends are for.” – Irene assured with her million-dollar smile
Flashback ending
Yongsun still hasn’t talked with Byulyi, but she knew she would have to do it soon. The sooner the better, they say.
The bell rang and signalled that the class was now over. The students scattered their things and went out. Everybody wanted to go as soon as possible. It was hot and soon were the summer holidays.
This was Yongsuns chance. She couldn’t miss it. Byulyi was still packing up her belong ness’s, because she did not want to go home, home to an empty apartment. Yongsun walked up to her and said her name.
“Byulyi.” – Yongsun called
At first Byulyi was startled, but she was able to recover quickly. She wanted to ignore her, but she knew they had to talk. Talk about the things that happened.
“Yes? What can I do for you Yongsun-Ssi?” – Byulyi politely asked
Yongsun was shocked to hear Byulyi calling her with honorifics, because they agreed on calling each other’s names without courtesies.
“You know, you don’t have the use honorifics just because we broke up. But that’s not important now. Can we maybe talk? Outside?” – Yongsun asked, not sure if Byulyi wanted to talk to her ever again
“That’s a good idea. How about we go to the Coffee-shop around the corner? It’s pretty empty anyway.” – Byulyi suggested, staring at the floor, not looking at Yongsun
“Great. At seven at the coffee? I will be waiting for you.” – Yongsun said as she went out of the door
“Yeah, see you then.” – Byulyi whispered
At seven at the coffee-shop
Yongsun was sitting at her chair, in the coffee-house, waiting for Byulyi. She was nervous and her heart was beating like a Japanese rail train. It was beating so fast, Yongsun thought it would explode soon.
Five minutes past seven and Yongsun could see Byulyi entering the shop. She was wearing a plain white t-shirt with black rolled up jeans. She didn’t have her backpack with her, probably at home or in her car. That’s right. Byulyi already has a car, a Bentley. She was rich, but she would never swagger with her money. Byulyi was a hard-working person, she was working as a part-timer in a bar, somewhere near her apartment, even though she didn’t need the extra money. Her parents are one of the richest persons in South Korea. They were always on the media and they would always give interviews regarding their daughter’s school career.
“Hi. You are almost on time.” – Yongsun said, holding her smile
“I am sorry. I had some important things to take care of.” – Byulyi apologized
“No, you don’t h
