Sun: Winter Hearth Drabble ProjectIt rains and Wendy is not prepared. She holds her bag over her head and speeds up. With a few swift steps she slips into the familiar warmth of her favourite coffee shop. She plonks her bag down with a sigh of relief.
She blinks once and the world is blurry, she blinks twice and the world is still blurry.
‘Oh.’
Wendy slips off her glasses and wipes the rain off with her shirt. Back in the day she used to keep a glass cloth in every bag. She doesn’t care anymore. Holding it up to the light she checks them for blurriness and when she’s satisfied she puts them back on.
‘Hey’
She jumps back in fright. There’s a face right in front of her. It’s a familiar face. What’s not familiar is how close it is. Or how they’re at eye level. Now, Wendy isn’t small, she’s just...smaller than average.
Wendy leans back as the barista rises to her full height. There’s a green cap covering what she knows is the silkiest hair she’s even seen, but it takes nothing away from the girl in front of her.
‘H-hi!’
‘Here. I made this. It’s just like you. Extra sweet.’
There’s the gleam of teeth and cute dimples and then Wendy is left staring at the paper cup in her hand. XXXX XXXX - Irene.
