It was another day of interning for Minju. She walked through the main door and made a bee line towards the elevator.Before long she settled herself on her desk in the office with a heavy sigh. Minju looked around with a bored look hoping to catch any of her colleagues attention but everyone seems to be minding their own business thus she buried herself in the cubicle again.

God I hate this! Can this thing be done already.

You may think that Minju must have been stuck with her interning job for a long while but truth to be told it was only her second week and she felt like already. It’s not that she was swarmed with workloads or anything, it’s quite the opposite. All she had been doing for the past few days was either photocopying documents or going around the company delivering files and that’s just it. Nothing related to the course she learned in college.

For crying out loud, when they said internship will be boring as hell Minju thought she could definitely ace it since she lived off a dull life anyway, what’s there to lose. But girl is she wrong. It’s so much worse than how they said it would be. Minju never realized this could be so goddamn boring and she would be more awkward than she already is while feeling so out of place in the office. Internship program is a torture and a waste of time she concluded on her first week of interning.

A daydreaming Minju snapped out of her trance when someone knocked on the partitioning wall of her cubicle. She looked up only to be greeted with a smile from her boss, Kwon Eunbi. “Busy?” Minju shot the older woman with an absurd look. “Are you kidding me unnie? I’ve been staring at my laptop for-” she paused to glance on the clock displayed at the bottom of the screen “-almost an hour now. Just. Staring. At. It.” Eunbi chuckled at her response and was reminded to the first time she met the girl last Monday.  

“So you’re Kim Minju?”

“ Y-Yes Maam!”

“I supposed that you’ve been here for a week now? I was on a leave last week so I couldn’t meet you earlier to brief you on the company”

“N-No it’s fine Ms. Kw-Kwon really. Mr. Park had brief me with umm all the things….yeah”

Minju was a stuttering mess as her eyes land on everything but her boss. She fiddled with her hands underneath the table to ease her nervousness but the blank stare from the woman in front of her only made it worse. The two were sitting in Eunbi’s office as the manager called for the intern to see her the second she walked into the office.

“Relax Minju-sshi, I’m not gonna eat you. And please don’t be too formal with me, I’m not your supervisor but more of like the person in charge of giving you task? So please don’t call me Ms. Kwon, unnie would do” Hearing a chuckle, Minju finally found the courage to look at her face.

Gone long was the y face, only a serene face with a warm smile she saw.

“O-okay Ms. Kwo-” A glare cut herwords short. “Sorry! I mean okay Kwon Unnie!”

A boisterous laugh filled the small room. “Kwon unnie?! Gosh you’re something else Kim Minju! Hahahahaha” Minju’s face was burning red from the embarrassment. “Sorry bout that. It’s the first time someone called me unnie with my surname.”

“Sorry unnie” Minju mumbled timidly.

“It’s okay, Minju. You can return to your work now. Fighting!” Eunbi would never forget of the impression the shy girl left her with on that day.

Minju frowned as she walk into the photocopy room. Apparently Eunbi came to her desk earlier asking her to make copies on the proposal for the meeting later. She was tasked with photocopying documents, again. She leaned onto the huge copier machine while waiting before a shrieking sound startled her. The machine was making a weird sound and that alarmed Minju. She took a step back and walked out of the room searching for her boss.

“It’s broken again! Gosh it’s the third time for this month for god sake” Minju was watching how her boss was repeatedly kicking the machine in frustration before groaning in pain. Who knew her resting face boss tuned ot to have a comical side like this. “You know what Minju, you’ll have to make copies on the other photocopy room upstairs as of now”

Ehhh! Is she implying that I’ll still be the one who will be making copies of documents for the rest of my internship or what.

Seeing the puzzled look plastered on the younger girl, Eunbi heaved out a sigh. “This thing is broken for good, the replacement that we ordered for will most likely arrive next month or so let’s go. I’ll show you to the other room upstairs.”

Eunbi made her way to the blue door near Minju’s cubicle and she followed suit. Opening the door, they went up the 10 flights of the L shaped stairs to arrive at another similar office setting as down below. The older woman swiftly maneuvered her way around the office with Minju following her like a lost puppy noting every steps and turns in the back of her mind for future references.

Unlike the one in her office, this room is equipped with a door showing bold ‘PHOTOCOPY ROOM’ on it and a lot smaller. Once they entered the room, Minju closed to suppress a gasp from escaping at the sight in front of her. Inside the room was a girl with a reddish brown hair standing by the copier machine. She was wearing a pink blouse pairing it with a black pencil skirt, it was a normal office wear but Minju found her particularly stunning.

The girl spare Minju a glance and she swore she was gay panicking on the inside. “Ohh Eunbi unnie, why are you up here?”

“Our Ssammu! The machine downstairs is broken and I’m just showing the way hehe”

“Stop calling me that unnie. I see that you got a new child now” The girl pouted slightly protesting the nickname and Minju thought that was the cutest thing she’d ever laid her eyes on. MAJOR UWU.

“Anyway nice meeting you unnie, I’m done here.” Eunbi patted the girl’s head while Minju bowed to acknowledge her with her eyes frantically searching for a name on the girl’s working badge. Unfortunately her id was dangling backwards so Minju lost her chance of learning the girl’s name and so she was stuck with knowing her as ‘Ssammu’.

After lunchtime, Minju had already made up a series of nicknames for the mysterious girl, ‘Ssammu Fairy’ ‘Pink Fairy that stole my heart’ ‘Cute Angel’ ‘Pretty Unnie’. Yeap she was so smitten that she kept on pacing around the office in hope for someone would asked her to make copies again. Sadly, the opportunity never came to Minju that evening and she went home with her shoulders slumping.

Usually going back home is what she anticipated the most during her days of interning the past week. Somehow that day she went home with a heavy heart knowing that she would have to wait for 2 days before she could finally meet that pretty unnie again. That night Minju couldn’t catch a wink of sleep as her mind kept on drifting to the pretty unnie, she kept questioning herself on how did she never saw the latter since the only entrance to that upper office is by the stairs right beside her cubicle.

Like how am I so oblivious to not notice such beautiful being going in and out the same door for the past 2 weeks?! why did I have to bury myself in my cubicle most of the time. Gosh you’re a huge idiot Kim Minju!

When Monday arrived, Minju was so excited to go to work that she reached the office an hour earlier than she usually do. She prepared coffee and tea to serve the other employees, and by the time people were starting to enter the office, Minju couldn’t help but to glance towards the main entrance of her office every couple of minutes. She was determined to catch the red-head entering the office and hopefully she could greet her this time.

Unfortunately , Minju’s kind act of wanting to serve the others with morning coffee backfired. She got so busy of serving the beverages that the moment she returned to her cubicle it was already half past 9, which means everyone have arrived yet she didn’t manage to catch a glimpse of that pretty unnie.

Thus the continuation of Minju’s gloomy mood from the weekend.

“Why the sad face Minju” Minju shrugged and put on a small smile in response. “I see that you came early and made everyone coffee and tea. Any special occasion?” Eunbi asked further in which Minju shrugged again also saying that she just felt like doing it.

“Anyway, I’m taking you and Bomin for a site visit today. So suit up! We’re leaving at-”

“Really noona?! Gosh finally something fun! It’s been so long since we went for a site visit.” Minju was shocked by the sudden loud voice cutting her boss words. It was Bomin, another intern who sat right across her cubicle. The boy was cheerful and loud but they become friends right off the bat although sometimes Minju found him to be quite an annoyance for instance right at this moment.

“Keep it down Choi Bomin! Ohh also Minju dear do you mind going upstairs and call Chaewon for me. She’ll be joining us as well”

“Who’s Chaewon?” Minju questioned, it was bold of her boss to think that she’d know another employee when she couldn’t even remember who is the senior sitting right beside her.

“Oh Chaewonnie! Let me go get her instead noona!” Bomin was eager to stand from his seat but halted when Eunbi glared at him for being loud again.

After what seems like a decade to Minju, she finally made her way to the upper level office. Recalling what Bomin told her on who is this Chaewon is, she couldn’t help but to have her heart thumping like crazy with each step she took.

“How would I know who is Chaewon?”

“Don’t worry you’ll know her right away. She’s the only one with a brown red hair up there.”

The only red-head? Gosh don’t tell me…..

Suddenly the 10 flight of stairs felt so high but when she finally entered the office, true enough there’s only one person with the description. Scooting closer to the cubicle with cautious steps, Minju’s heart skipped a beat when she caught the full view of the said Chaewon.

Unlike the first time Minju saw her, she’s currently wearing a round glasses and she was sitting up straight with the perfect composure - with a buttoned up light blue shirt, eyes fixed onto the screen in front with a pen twirling in between her fingers, her wavy hair bounced a little as she nodded her head - the scene in front of Minju literally screamed GIRL CRUSH and believe it or not, everything was moving in slow-mo.

Minju was probably drooling a puddle in her mind right there but only coming back to her sense when she noticed the girl was staring at her with a bored look. She cleared nervously, swallowing a lump which she didn’t even know existed before calling out her name timidly.

“Chae-Chaewon-sshi?” The girl hum in returned, still with that bored expression. “Ahh Eunbi unnie…told you to call me for umm site going visit” Minju was a stuttering mess and she was speaking gibberish alien language.

WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT KIM FROG MINJU?! WHAT A WAY TO EMBARASS YOURSELF IN FRONT OF THE ANGEL!

“Wait no! So-Sorry! I mean that Eunbi unnie said you and I wait no! we’re going for a da- uhhh site visit yes site visit! and you’re coming along!” It required Minju to use all of her remaining braincells to formulate the right words.

“So you mean Eunbi unnie told you to get me so we could go for a site visit later right?” She nodded furiously with her head down as she doesn’t have the courage see her crush after humiliating herself two seconds ago. “cute” She heard Chaewon chuckled which made her head jerked up with shocked written on her face.

“W-what?” she was blushing but she couldn’t believe her ears.

“I said you’re cute” By now Minju became a lot redder and steam are coming out of her head. Kim Minju is malfunctioning send help.

Feeling like she broke the younger girl, Chaewon called out for the girl’s attention. “Minju-sshi? Are you alright? Minju-sshi?”

“Yea YES! I’m go-good! Wait how did you kno- ahh right...” Minju stopped midway as she saw the red-head was pointing towards her working id mentally slapping herself for being slow.

“Anyway did unnie tell you which company we are going so I can get the files”

“ she did….”

“but?”

“Coral something? ! I fo-forgot! I’m so sorry!” Minju was flailing her arms everywhere trying too remember the name but she could not seemed to pinpoint it. “It’s okay Minju-sshi don’t feel bad, I’ll just call Eunbi unnie to ask her” Minju watched as Chaewon giggled before picking up the phone on the desk.

She….laughed…. Oh god! That is like a like the most heavenly laugh I’ve ever heard! Oh my gosh is she even human?!

“Ok got it! Come let’s go Minju-sshi” The two then proceeded downstairs to join Eunbi and Bomin before they departed for the site visit. Along the visit, they managed to drop the formality and Minju couldn’t help but to stare at the pretty unnie, mentally noting on how gracefully she walked or how soft her voice is or how blinding her smile is and the list goes on.

After that day, the two gradually become closer. Mostly with Minju trying to garner the latter’s attention over a small matter.

~Tuesday

Minju was task to make copies again so she went up to the office above. Her memory braincell failed her as she couldn’t find the said photocopy room despite pacing around the office a couple of times so she approached a familiar cubicle for help.

“Chaewon un-unnie”

“Yeah?”

“I can’t seem to find the copier room….”

“Right! I’ll take you there”

~Wednesday

Minju opened the door to the photocopy room and a smile crept on her face as she saw her angel in there.

“Unnie”

“Hi Minju”

“Are you f-finish?”

“Yeah just a small amount of copy this time”

Quick Minju think of something to make her stay

“Can uhhh can you help me on how to shrink this into a p-pamphlet “

“Sure. If you need to shrink this all you to do is….”

She was still a stuttering mess but her braincell did not failed her this time to make her pretty unnie stay a little bit longer.

~Thursday

“Minju? What are you doing?”

“Ahh Chaewon unnie! I’m l-looking for last year finance r-report”

“Do you need any help?”

“N-No it’s okay I’ll manage”

“If you say so. Be careful” Chaewon turned, about to leave.

“Actually u-unnie?”

“yeah?”

“Can y-you hold the stairs p-please? I’m afraid of heights”

“You should’ve said so earlier”

“Thank you”

It’s Friday, officially a week since Minju met the pretty unnie in her office and she had never felt so eager to start her mornings this whole week. It seemed like the older girl had been a constructive motivation for Minju to start her day at the office.

“Chaewon unnie, I need help” Chaewon simply smile as she heard the voice from a distance. Before long, a figure was standing beside her, the sight behold made her laughed. “What happened to you Minju-yah?” the younger girl blushed as it was the first time she called her name affectionately.

“The ink cartridge is stuck and I think I broke it” Minju pouted which made her laughed. She grabbed a few plies of tissue to wipe Minju’s hand which was covered with black ink before doing the same the girl’s chin. “Let me help you with that”  Minju was blushing profusely at the sudden contact.

When Chaewon effortlessly changed the ink cartridge she turned to Minju with a teasing grin “Nothing is wrong here. You said it was broken”

“I swear it was stuck earlier! I tried pulling it but it won’t budge”

“Okay okay I believe you. Perhaps you did not lie about it was broken just to have me here with you right?” Chaewon’s teasing grin got wider and cue Minju’s blushing intensified.

Great! Now you’re busted Kim Minju!

“M-maybe a little?”

“You’re cute Kim Minju. If you like me that much you should ask me out for a date already.” Chaewon was laughing, having a good time teasing the poor girl who was as red as a tomato.

“W-well are you free this week-weekend unnie?” Gathering all her courage, Minju finally asked her out. It was Chaewon’s turn to blush slightly but she kept her cool. She did not expect for the girl to be this bold and asked her out right away. “I guess I am. Why?”

“Let’s go on a date!” Minju said confidently, gay-panicked-Minju who??

“I would love that…”

Perhaps this internship program wasn’t so bad after all. I would definitely survive the next 5 months if it mean that I would be seeing this pretty unnie everyday.
