her-one

The Dare: Unexpected

“Come on! Please come on!” My best friend, Jung Narae, couldn’t stop whining like a toddler. I slapped her hands from my arm rather fiercely; glaring at her. Narae didn’t stop; she wasn’t going to back off that easily.

“I’m just packing my things for God’s sake! Can’t I do it peacefully?” I exasperatedly protested. I continued to put my stuffs inside my bag and Narae was obviously indignant at my slow-paced motions. From the corner of my eyes, I saw her lips jutted out in attempt to look cute. It was actually more than my brain could tolerate. I just hate aegyo that much.  Narae kept that cute face and at the end I gave up.

“Fine! Oh my God,” I exclaimed in enragement.

With pencil case as the last thing, I zipped up my bag and stood in front of Narae. “Satisfied?” I sarcastically asserted her. Narae smiled widely and nodded her head in happiness before she took my arm and led me outside the class. I shook my head in amusement with a small smile formed on my lips.

Apparently, I actually knew the reason Narae was acting that way; because there was this infamous group of boys in our campus. Well those kinds of boys who are good looking and had their name out there. Since our campus is an international one, there are a lot of foreigner’s students and some of them are part of this certain group. It’s kind of confusing but yeah. And this group of boys were said to have a basketball match among themselves this afternoon; resulting Narae to be ecstatic and happy all the day.

“Let’s walk faster so we can find ourselves good seats!” She urged and I just complied silently. Arguing with her at this moments was pointless.

When both of us reached the campus indoor sport hall, a lot number of girls were there already.  They seemed to have the same motive as Narae; which was to see the good looking boys have a battle amongst each other.

Both of us then took the seats on the second row from the top since it was the best spot we actually could get at the time. Narae cursed a bit and looked upset. I pretended to not see it and darted my eyes elsewhere. Part of me felt sorry since if it wasn’t because of me, she would get seats neared to the court. But luckily Narae didn’t say anything to add fuel to my sorry .

The boys were in the middle of warming up. The girls around us definitely enjoyed the sight before them. Attractive boys in sleeveless sport attire, arms flexes here and there- even I kind of liking the view. Narae kept squealing and muttering things I couldn’t understand at the scene. She was really focused on this boy named Lee Taeyong. Well, it would be a big fat lie if I said those boys weren’t attractive; yet they’re attractive as hell. Narae’s favorite, Taeyong, seemed to come out straight from a manga book. And the other guys too.

If I had to pick favorite, mine would be the Jung Jaehyun guy. I firstly noticed him when he sang Bon Jovi’s song, Always, on a school festival. His voice was so alluring and it drifted me crazy. He also really fitted a character for a vampire movie. His skin was so fair. Normally, he would have his bangs covered his forehead and he looked very handsome but try to see him with his hair styled up; he looked like a prince from a Disney movie. That was how I described him.

And this was certain heart-fluttering moment that happened between both of us. Well it happened accidentally anyway but my heart always reacted weirdly every time I remembered the occurrence. So it happened during a time like this; Jaehyun and some of his friends had a match with a group of guys. I happened to watch because Narae asked me to. We had seats on the very first row of the tribune. The match went smooth until suddenly a ball was flying in the direction to my face.

I was so shocked and my body just froze. I managed to close my eyes in a milliseconds before the expected contact. But I was found surprised because the contact never happened. Instead, I found Jaehyun stood there, smiling for a couple of seconds before dashing out to join the game again. I was sat there, clueless and my heart was bubbling. Later on Narae told me that Jaehyun had tossed the ball aside, preventing it from causing any damage to my face.

My admiration to him added 100%.

Only Narae knew about my little obsession towards Jaehyun; not as strong as hers to Taeyong by the way. But still, she used ‘Jaehyun-is-there-too’ card to drag me along with her when she wanted to see the boys; very sneaky I know.

“They are very handsome,” I heard Narae cooed; eyes filled with dreamy feels.

I couldn’t help but nodded; having my eyes fixed to Jaehyun. “Yes, very much handsome.”

Their game began five minutes after. Everyone, or more like every girls, were cheering loudly for their own teams. I also clapped my hand in excitement; thinking the game would be very intense and fun. I couldn’t remember all their names but one thing I knew was Taeyong and Jaehyun were on the same team.

I didn’t know very well of how a basketball game was being carried. All I knew was to cheer whenever the ball was on Jaehyun’s team. “Woo!” I cheered again when Jaehyun took over the ball. He was really a good player, I could tell. He dribbled the ball skillfully and managed to get near the opposite team’s ring. The crowd, and I, got crazier when he suddenly shot and I had to stand up on my feet when the ball hopped inside the ring; marking the first score for Jaehyun’s team.

Narae and I were so happy that we actually held each other hands and clapped. I couldn’t help but to smile widely with proud written on my forehead. I was still clapping happily and cheering loudly. My attention automatically drew to Jaehyun. My eyebrows creased in confusion seeing Jaehyun turned his head around; as if he was searching for something. Mirroring his action, his friends were also scanning the tribune.

“Weird,” I muttered lowly under my breath.

I noticed that it wasn’t only me but the other girls turned their heads left and right. Then suddenly Jaehyun’s eyes stopped and fixed on my tribune. My face turned to horror when everyone started to look in my direction; my tribune’s direction. I didn’t know if he was actually looking at me but I was sure it was somewhere around my tribune.

Narae and I looked at each other. “What are they doing?” she asked perplexed. I only shook my head, unable to provide an answer as I was just as clueless.

As if to add the horror, Jaehyun jumped off the barrier of the tribune and went up with hurried steps; skipping some stairs on his way. My heartbeat suddenly increased its frequency; it kept on increasing as he was getting closer to my row.

I gulped hard and all of sudden he was already right before me. Yeah, in the cramped place between each row of seats, Jaehyun was standing in front of me. My eyes widened and rounded; totally not expecting this moment. My brain actually had the chance to appreciate how good he looked up close. My heart beat as if it was a ticking cherry bomb that would explode anytime in the moment.

I gulped again; hand found itself on Narae’s arm as I squeezed it; rather harshly. Narae yelled and slapped my hand away as the response. My hand gripped the fabric of my skirt as replacement. Jaehyun chuckled. Oh my! He just chuckled! That beautiful voice and smile of his!

Jaehyun was panting heavily, sweat streamed down his neck; reflecting the surrounding light beautifully. His face was also glistening with perspiration. He was…glowing. His chest heaved up and down as he was stabling his own breath. He was looking at me straight in the eyes. My mind was blank and unable to function properly.

He wasn’t saying anything but the next I knew was his lips formed a small smile before he leaned closer and suddenly pressed his lips on mine.
