“Oh? Eunbi’s here”.

I rolled my eyes hearing the familiar voice, I looked up from my phone and saw Yena smiling brightly while waving at me with Chaewon and Yuri right beside her. I couldn’t help but chuckle as I put my phone away and walked up to them, my eyes scanning the area. “Your girlfriend isn’t here, she’s with Yujin and Wonyoung”, Chaewon replied, as if she read my mind. I was caught off guard.

“She’s not my girlfriend”, I explained yet her smirk grew even more, “Oh? It seems like you already know who I’m talking about without even saying her name”. I looked away out of embarrassment, realising my mistake. “Unnie, your cheeks are turning red”, Yuri teased. I groaned and covered my face, “I seriously need new friends”, I muttered.

Yena chuckled, “Why bother, we’re the best friends you could ever have, we’d totally support biyeon when it happens”. Groaning in frustration, I slapped her shoulders, “I told you we’re no- UGH why am I even trying?”. I facepalmed myself after seeing Yena and Yuri high five each other.

“Oh, speak of the devil”, Chaewon smirked.

I tried to resist the urge to look where she was pointing, believe me I tried. Apparently I didn’t try hard enough because my head immediately turned, my eyes finding its way to hers. Chaeyeon grinned.

“Hey”.

I couldn’t fight the smile the smile that was slowly forming on my face, how is it that she can make me happy just by saying one simple word? “Hey”, I replied a bit too awkwardly that my friends at the back were trying not to laugh out loud. Yena’s about to fail at it though. “Do you wanna hang out with us later? You can bring them if you want”, she pointed towards the girls. I faked a smile, “The duck in the middle isn’t tamed so she’s out”.

“YAH! WHAT AM I? A WILD ANIMAL OR SOMETHING?”. Yena screamed. Chaewon facepalmed while Yuri tried to calm her girlfriend down. Meanwhile, Chaeyeon and I just laughed, “So...you up for it or nah?”.

Before I even had a chance to reply, Yena had stood up enthusiastically, “She’s going!”. I immediately pulled her down and apologised, “Sorry Chae, maybe next time”. I couldn’t deny that I felt bad, I really did. I just didn’t know how to deal with these sort of things, and I could also tell that she was disappointed. But, she brushed it off with an awkward laugh, “Ok then, that’s fine. I’ll see you around”, she bid goodbye before running back to Yujin and Wonyoung who were patting her back. I guess that they were comforting her. I nearly let out a sigh if only Choi Yena didn’t grab my shoulders and started shaking me as if the world depended on it.

“What did you just do? That was your chance?”. I rolled my eyes, “I’m not ready...I need more time”. She immediately stopped shaking and looked at me.“Wait, you haven’t answered her confession yet?”, she asked. I gazed at her and let out a sigh, nodding as a reply. Yena facepalmed, “What the heck Kwon Eunbi! It’s been two weeks and you’ve left her hanging? I’m surprised she’s still trying”.

Two weeks ago, Chaeyeon had come to my class, saying that she needed to make an announcement. Of course, everyone in the class were confused, yet curious about the sudden statement. Taking a deep breathe, Chaeyeon slowly walked towards me before looking directly in my eye.

“Kwon Eunbi, will you go out with me?”.

Time stopped for a moment there, my brain wasn’t processing properly. Sure, I’ve been confessed to a lot of times actually but this was the most direct confession I’ve ever received that it actually made me a bit flustered to be honest. I opened my mouth yet no words came out, she probably noticed it because she smiled, “I don’t need an answer straight away, I’ll wait”. And with that she walked off, not even waiting to see if I had anything to say.

Word then spread throughout the school about the confession but I still hadn’t said anything about it. Yuri looked at me, “Why don’t you just reject her if you don’t like her?”. I shook my head, “It’s not as easy as it seems, I’ll just feel bad then”.

“Well duh, she’s rejected about 15 people from our school, that includes boys AND girls”, Chaewon commented sarcastically. I rolled my eyes, “Not helping, I rejected them because it didn’t feel right saying yes”.

“But you never gave any of them a chance, how are you supposed to know that it doesn’t feel right. I swear, keep this up and you’ll be single forever like her”, Yena pointed at Chaewon who rolled her eyes, feeling offended at the duck’s sentence.

“But you’re interested in her, aren’t you?”, Yuri asked. The only thing I could do was shrug my shoulders.

Chaewon sighed, “Give her a chance, you never know what could happen”.

July 29, 2017

It’s been another week yet I haven’t talked to Chaeyeon at all. The whole school wouldn’t stop shipping us because they believed that we were the icons for dancing. I couldn’t but facepalm at the thought. It was raining outside and I was going to go lay down to sleep when suddenly, my phone buzzed indicating that I got a notification. I was a bit confused, seeing that the sender was an unknown number, I was about to block it until the person said that they were Chaeyeon. I hesitated whether or not to reply but I figured that it’d be a bit too much if I just ignored her like that so I decided to text her back.

Chaeyeon

Hey? I asked Chaewon for your number. Sorry if I did it without your permission.

Eunbi

No it’s fine. I don’t mind.

It was awkward, I didn’t know what to talk about and I’m guessing she was in the same boat as well because it was silent until Chaeyeon texted back.

Chaeyeon

So, uh yeah. I sorta like you.

Eunbi

Yeah…

Chaeyeon

Is that weird?

Eunbi

Of course it isn’t. If you’re fine with liking someone like me then go for it

Chaeyeon

Will you give me a chance though?

My brain kinda stopped working after that, I wanted to text Chaewon or Yuri about it but then I’d be talking behind Chaeyeon’s back. It was obvious that Yena wasn’t going to be any help so she was out. After giving it some thought, I smiled as my fingers typed. Surely it wouldn’t hurt trying right?

Days had turned into weeks since I started texting Chaeyeon. I can definitely say we were a lot closer now than before. Now, we joke around and text each other almost everyday, sometimes flirting...SOMETIMES. Our group of friends starting sitting with it each other, at this point everyone already saw us as a couple but that was the thing.

We weren’t.

“So you’re telling me, the two of you act like a couple...BUT YOU’RE NOT?!!”.

I rolled my eyes while Chaeyeon laughed, Yujin gasped in shock, “How is that even possible? The two of you are like a dream couple. When will you guys be official?”. “Yeah Eunbi, when will we?”, Chaeyeon asked, half laughing and half smirking. I flicked her forehead lightly, “Don’t get ahead of yourself Chae, I haven’t given my answer yet”. Letting my mouth speak without thinking will always be the worst decision I would have ever made.

“UGH WHY HAVEN’T REPLIED TO HER CONFESSION YET?”, Yena screamed in my ear that I thought I would go deaf. The only thing I could do was massage my temple while Yena and Yujin continued making a big deal about it. “Chill guys”, Chaeyeon interrupted, “It’s not that big of a deal”, she said. Chaewon sighed, “At this point I’m starting to feel sorry for you”. All Chaeyeon could do was laugh and look at me.

“Don’t be, because I’d wait as long as it takes”.

I flinched, I didn’t know whether or not that was a reply to Chaewon or if it was for me because she started smiling at me. I looked away and felt my heart starting beat unusually fast that I was starting to questions my feelings. Taking a deep breath, I stole a glance but I didn’t expect her to be still looking at me. I diverted my eyes away again, knowing that I was blushing but I tried not to make it too obvious.

Later that day

Eunbi

Were you serious with what you said earlier?

Chaeyeon

What did I say?

Eunbi

That you’d wait as long as it takes

Chaeyeon

Yeah, I mean every word I say when I’m with you

I smiled and wondered if now was the time to do it. I quickly texted Chaewon and got a reply from her almost immediately, saying that I should hurry and confess now.

Eunbi

Hey Chae?

Chaeyeon

Hm?

Eunbi

Would you believe me if I said that I had someone I liked?

The rain outside was starting to get stronger, even though we weren’t seeing each other in person, it made me even more nervous.

Chaeyeon

...I’d believe anything you’d say...

I was starting to wonder if I made the right decision doing that because I got no reply after that. I got worried as each second passed.

Eunbi

Uh Chaeyeon. You still there?

Eunbi

Did you do something wrong? Oh hell yeah you did

W-What did I do?

Chaeyeon

You’re making my heart beat extremely fast.

Omg, you made me worry for no reason

I guess today’s our first day then?

Wait, let me just go outside and scream.

I laughed seeing that message and picturing her literally running around in her room, screaming her heart out.

Chaeyeon

Ok, I’m back

Eunbi

Done screaming?

Chaeyeon

Yep, scared the out of my sister though

I shook my head and kept laughing, she really was something. The two of us kept talking, I didn’t even realise that I was smiling the entire time. I really didn’t know what I was getting myself into. I found myself smiling as I read her last message.

Chaeyeon

I’ll treat you as if my life depends on it. I promise.

That was the first promise.

“Sooo...how is she?”.

Yena asked, curiosity written all over her face. Yuri and Chaewon, who were next to her, had the same expression. I shrugged my shoulders, “I have no idea what you’re talking about”. Chaewon smirked, “Really? I’m pretty sure she’s talking about this”, she pulled out her phone and showed me a picture that nearly made me spit my drink. I started coughing, “What the- How the did you get access to my phone?”.

She just showed me a smug expression, “I have my ways”. Yuri pat my back, trying to help me breathe again while Chaewon and Yena laughed reading the messages. “I guess today’s our first day then”, Yena acted out ridiculously, Chaewon kept laughing and Yuri, who was trying to calm me down, couldn’t help but giggle.

I pouted, “What, do you have a problem?”. Yena chuckled and leaned on Yuri, “Not really, I find it adorable actually. Who knew that general bunny could have a soft spot?”. I rolled my eyes but still laughed.

“Eunbi?”.

I looked to the side and found Wonyoung, “Chaeyeon wants to see you in the school gardens”. I was confused but did as told anyway, of course my friends wasted no time in teasing me so I left as soon as possible. Not because I wanted to see her immediately. Definitely not for that reason.

“Oh? You’re here? Did you miss me already?”.

Chaeyeon teased, amused to see me sweating a bit from running. I shrugged my shoulders, “They would’ve kept teasing me if I stayed any longer”, I reasoned but Chaeyeon pulled me in for a hug, making me shut up. It was silent, but that was alright. We didn’t need words to to express what we felt towards each other.

“Excuses excuses”, Chaeyeon teased, I pouted and pulled away, “I swear, I’m not lyi-”. She hugged me again, and then I realised that I couldn’t keep secrets from this girl. Instead, I just hugged her back, “I hate you sometimes you know”. I heard her laugh and oh god, have I mentioned that her laugh is so addicting?

She cupped my face then pinched it afterwards, “I love you too”. I felt myself blushing and tried to look away but her hands didn’t leave my cheeks, “I’ll never get used to this”, I muttered, making her laugh again as she pulled away. “Used to what?”.

“This. These feelings”, I replied. Chaeyeon just smiled, “And I promise I’ll make you feel more feelings in the future”
