Sweet Dreams

Taeil never understood why Jihoon kept clinging to him so much. The singer had always been the calm, composed one in the group, so he could never figure out why the hyper maknae took such a liking to him. But he didn’t mind. Even though they were polar opposites, Taeil liked being around the young rapper as well. It had been like that ever since he joined Block B, and it was probably going to stay that way.

The two of them kept hanging out together, shopping, watching TV, whatever came to mind for the day, and the younger male kept chatting away as his hyung listened calmly. Taeil had grown accustomed to his voice, the tall body that kept clinging to his, and the goofy jokes that always made him laugh. Though he couldn’t help but feel slightly inferior to the other male.

Even though Jihoon was younger than him, he was so much taller, as well as possessing that deep voice that sent chills down his spine. The maknae was also really handsome, and height and looks were the aspects Taeil was most lacking in, according to himself. Anyone who didn’t know them would probably think that Taeil was the younger one. The only thing contradicting that belief would be Jihoon’s personality, and his frequent use of aegyo that didn’t suit his manly voice at all. But Taeil thought it was cute. Adorable actually, and he couldn’t help but laugh whenever he did it.

Although, as most would notice, Jihoon was truly the type of person who was close with everyone in the group, there was one thing about the other’s behaviour that made Taeil a bit curious. Since Taeil was the lead vocal in Block B, Jaehyo would often ask him for advice. As they shared the same interest for singing it was only natural for them to get along, and he would hang out with the weird pretty-boy frequently as well.

The thing that made Taeil react, however, was the way the maknae was acting when he started hanging out more with the other singer.

“Hyuuuung~!” Jihoon called in his dark voice while pulling on Taeil’s sleeve.

“What?” Taeil replied, smiling at him. The other had been extra clingy lately.

“You never play with me anymore!” he pouted, his hand still clinging to the fabric of his shirt.

“You’re going to stretch my shirt if you keep doing that.” Taeil laughed. “And yes I do. We just went to the movies the other day.”

“That was two weeks ago…” Jihoon mumbled, and Taeil thought for a moment. It really had been that long, and he hadn’t noticed at all.

“Oh.” he started in realization. “I’m sorry, I’ve had so much vocal training--“

“--with Jaehyo hyung…” Jihoon cut him off and finished the sentence bitterly. “I know.” he added before letting go of his shirt and walking out of the room. He stopped for a moment in the doorway and looked back. “Tell me when you have time, okay?” he said quietly before closing the door.

Taeil stood in the same spot, utterly astounded. Was the maknae perhaps… jealous? He unconsciously smiled to himself at the thought before brushing of the weird feeling. Even if Jihoon truly was jealous, it’s not like Taeil was happy about it, because that would be strange. So he stopped thinking about it. Until a few days later, when he was at the company practicing his singing with Jaehyo again.

“Can we try it one more time?” Jaehyo asked, walking over to start the music again.

“Sure. But it sounds good, you know.” Taeil smiled, and the other turned around, reaching out to poke him in the side.

“Not good enough.” he retorted, sticking his tongue out in a way that looked more derpy than the cute look that he was probably going for. Taeil brought his hand up to his mouth, covering it as he laughed at the other’s failed aegyo. He had always thought of Jaehyo as a pointless beauty, since his odd puns and awkward behaviour didn’t fit with his looks.

“Not as good as you at least.” Jaehyo added quietly before shooting Taeil an annoyed look. Taeil just corrected his glasses and pouted at that statement. “Don’t look all innocent like that!” Jaehyo snapped, poking him again. “You know you’re a great singer!”

Taeil moved away to try and avoid his random poke-attacks and shrugged at the statement with a toothy grin on his face. “I guess.”

“Your feigned modesty is so charming.” Jaehyo said sarcastically and rolled his eyes, and Taeil just smiled sweetly at him again, making the other scowl at him. “Aaah, you’re so frustrating!” the other male said, suddenly putting him arm around his neck, holding his head in place while ruffling his neatly-done hair.

The two of them were practically always play-fighting like this and making fun of each other, to the point where the others in the group had started questioning their relationship. After the two singers had another one of their frequent twitter-fights, Kyung had even commented it, asking if they were dating. Jaehyo had told him off later though, retorting with how the only people in their group who seemed like a couple were Kyung and Jiho. Taeil couldn’t help but agree, because the two rappers were really close after all.

Taeil still struggled to get out of Jaehyo’s grip, laughing, when the door suddenly opened.  Jihoon was standing in the doorway, glaring at them.

“Hyung, I need you to come with me for a moment.” the maknae’s voice rumbled, and the two older men let go of each other, confused as to who he was referring to. It made itself clear however, when Jihoon grabbed Taeil by his wrist and forcefully dragged him out of the room and down the hall.

They finally reached an empty studio, and Taeil was pushed inside before the younger male closed the door and locked it. Taeil probably looked as confused as he was, because Jihoon suddenly started explaining himself.

“Uh… I have something important that I need your help with.” he started, and Taeil frowned.

“Okay?” he said in a questioning tone, folding his arms over his chest.

“I… uh… was thinking of getting… a fish?” Jihoon continued nervously, and Taeil raised his eyebrows. It was obvious that he was lying.

“You had to forcefully drag me all the way over here because of that?” Taeil replied. “Come on, what’s on your mind?” he added, coaxing the other to tell what he really wanted.

“No… I just… wanted to hang out for a bit.” the other said, looking at his feet, and Taeil couldn’t help but smile. How cute.

“And it couldn’t wait until after I’d finished vocal training with Jaehyo?” Taeil asked.

“It didn’t look like you were doing that much training…” Jihoon muttered, and Taeil gave him another puzzled look. He didn’t know what to answer to that. The maknae rubbed his neck nervously at the silence, pursing his lips, and Taeil was now sure that the other was jealous. He didn’t know what it meant, but it was cute nonetheless.

Taeil sighed. “Alright. I’ll send Jaehyo a text that something came up. Where do you want to go?” he said, smiling as he took out his cellphone.

“Really?” Jihoon asked, hopeful, and Taeil nodded. The other’s face brightened at this, and he suddenly darted forward, wrapping his arms around the shorter male. “Thanks, hyung.” Taeil just smiled into his shirt, ignoring the way their hug lingered for a bit too long. After that, they went shopping, like they used to, and both of them were smiling the whole time.

As they returned to the dorm, finding it to be quite empty, Taeil practically collapsed on the couch. When Jihoon sat down next to him, turning on the TV, he stared blankly at the screen for a few minutes until he felt his eyelids grow heavier. He didn’t know why, but he was really tired.

After a while, he drifted off into a subconscious bliss somewhere between being awake and asleep. For some reason, he started seeing dreams about the maknae. That the other was sitting close, his hair to the side and murmuring sweet words to him. He smiled in his sleep.

“I like you, hyung.” he heard that deep voice whisper, and slowly opened his eyes halfway, noticing that he was leaning his head on Jihoon’s shoulder. He felt the other nuzzle his face into his hair. Was he still dreaming? He didn’t care.

“I like you too, Jihoon…” he murmured absently and shut his tired eyes again.

“Sweet dreams, hyung.” the voice continued, and Taeil felt a warm hand gently grasping his own. He hummed quietly in response; entwining their fingers and squeezing the hand softly before drifting back to sleep.

It was a nice dream.
