Eunbi and Yerin had been best friends since they were children. We can say that they were basically inseparable from each other — just as if they were glued together as if they can’t live without each other being by their side

In typical romance books or movies, it would be either that best friends usually fall for each other or it would be a one sided love. But that wasn’t the case for them. Their relationship was nothing but friends

Well...

Until that happened...

It was Sunday morning when the two best friends decided to go to the mall to hang out. Going to the mall was like their usual routine in the weekends. If not on Saturday, then on Sunday.

It was no big deal for them since they wouldn’t spend that much of a money anyway. They only window shop or sit in a corner while eating, unless they found something that they would really want to buy then that would be the time they would be spending a worth of money

They were currently in an arcade place, Yerin was in front of a claw machine trying to catch her favorite jibang toy while Eunbi was standing beside the brunette with both of her arms crossed in front of her chest, amused on how her best friend was this determined to catch it when they could just buy it in the department store

It has been the nth time of Yerin inserting a coin and trying to capture the toy and Eunbi wasn’t even getting bored at watching the brunette. In fact, Eunbi was trying to control her laugh at how hilarious Yerin’s reaction were every time she thought that she have finally caught the toy but to only know that it’ll eventually slip away from the claw after it moves towards the dropping place

“Ugh! What is wrong with this machine?” The brunette shouted in frustration as she slammed the buttons of the the machine

The older girl was undeniably furious about the fact that she can’t manage to capture the toy. With her furious eyes wide open, reddening face, heavy breathing, clenched hands, the younger girl couldn’t anymore stop herself from bursting into laughters

“You’re such a dumb player” Eunbi said between her laughters making the latter turn her head towards her and glare at her

Yerin’s face twitched for a moment when she heard the criticism of the younger girl

“Oh... then why don’t you try doing it?” The brunette smirked at the latter and inserted another coin — the last coin to be exact

“If you manage to catch that jibang with one try, I’ll do anything you want” The older girl added knowing that Eunbi wouldn’t be able to do it

Hearing the proposal, Eunbi being the competitive girl, she gladly accepted the offer made by the latter

“Watch and learn” The younger girl said with the most confident voice she had and started turning and clicking the button. As soon as the claw captured the toy, the brunette couldn’t help but be nervous and excited at the same time

She wanted the toy but at the same time she didn’t want it. After all, who would want to become a slave? Knowing Eunbi’s personality, she could make the brunette do anything for fun.

The claw was slowly approaching the dropping place but as soon as it needed only an inch more to arrive at the place, the toy slipped from it making Yerin release the breath that she was holding

“Guess you’re also an idiot” Yerin said with a smile as she pat Eunbi’s head before going out of the arcade place. Leaving Eunbi annoyed at how she didn’t manage to prove that she was better than the brunette

They walked through the clothing area first and after they window shopped from that area, they went to the cosmetics area. As they were looking through the make-ups, Eunbi found something interesting and called Yerin who was looking through the eyeliners

“Yerin, take a look at these lipsticks” Eunbi said enthusiastically as she fan her hand for the latter to come towards her

“What’s that?” The brunette asked as she leaned closer and read the description

“Lipsticks with flavors?” — she questioned, and added — “And if you combine them, a new flavor will be formed?”

“Interesting right?” The younger girl grabbed the pink cased lipstick which was a strawberry flavored one while the latter grabbed the yellow one which was the banana flavor

Eunbi immediately applied it to her lips as soon as she opened the lid while the other turned the lipstick around first, observing if this was a good idea or if it has a bad chemicals

“Yerin, hurry up. I want to try using that banana flavored one with this strawberry one”

Upon hearing the younger girl’s complaint, Yerin applied the lipstick on her lips but instead of giving the item to Eunbi, she did something else that took the younger girl aback

Eunbi was surprised that a soft plump lips was already on her and one arm of Yerin was wrapped on her waist, supporting her from falling. The younger girl felt something itch in her as the lips of the older girl was on her

She knew how Yerin likes to play around with her and with other people but this was the first time she had kissed Eunbi on the lips. The brunette had kissed her on the cheeks but never on the lips and somehow this occurrence made Eunbi feel something else. Her heart was undeniably beating fast and she could feel the heat traveling to her head

“Eyy... This is fake” Yerin said as soon as she distanced herself from the younger girl as if nothing had happened. She even her lips to taste the lipstick but to only see an unsatisfied expression caused by the item

On the other hand, Eunbi was still not done from processing what just happened. Her eyes kept blinking hastily and her temperature was suddenly hot as if she was having a fever

“Eunbi” — Yerin snapped her fingers making the latter snap out of it — “These lipsticks are fake. The only flavor I tasted were banana and strawberry” 

The brunette pouted, feeling disappointed at how she believed the description that was written on the box of the item. If Yerin didn’t feel like the item was special, for Eunbi it was. It was something special for it made her feel something weird and itchy inside her stomach

It was Monday and it means that Eunbi would see the brunette once again and she wasn’t ready to face her. Not until she realizes what that itchy feeling meant when their lips touched. But Eunbi knew how it would be so wrong if she started avoiding the brunette for her own childish reason

She shook her head and wore her school shoes. The bell rang at exactly the same time she arrived and it would only be one person who would visit their house early in the morning

Jung Yerin

“Good morning” Her best friend greeted her with a smile which she returned

“Morning” Eunbi replied

The best friends walked together, their school as their destination, and Eunbi couldn’t help but have this uneasy feeling around the brunette. She felt awkward.

And not only that, she couldn’t help but stare at the pinkish lips of the older girl who was talking to her about how their physics subject was

The usual Eunbi who would laugh at the whining Yerin now doesn’t know what to do

They were best friends. Only best friends and nothing more than that. But now, she’s utterly confused and lost on why she could feel this weird sensation towards the older girl after that kiss

Why did her heart flutter?

Does she have feelings for the girl even from the start? Was she just caught up with the ‘best friend’ part of their relationship?

And did Yerin intended to imply something else when she kissed the latter? A deeper meaning perhaps? Or she only did that for fun? To tease the her best friend.

Everything was making Eunbi confuse for she couldn’t answer any of her questions. It was just do sudden. So unexpected.

If only she knew the answer. Then maybe she wouldn’t be this lost

“Say, do you want to tutor me this night?” Yerin blurted out of nowhere. Desperately looking at Eunbi to agree since she can’t fail this subject or else her parents will give her another punishment — no going outside the house for how long, depending on the score of the brunette

Eunbi stared at her, tilting her head. She wasn’t really listening to Yerin so of course she wouldn’t know what she was talking about so in the end, she agreed without even knowing what it was except for the fact that Yerin was asking her to tutor her for a certain subject she’s near in failing

“You’re the best” Yerin shouted in glee and threw her arms around the younger girl who blushed by the action.

“I-I can’t breath” Eunbi said as she tap Yerin’s arms. It wasn’t true that she can’t breath in a literal way, she meant it in a figurative way — she can’t breath because she was having this weird sensation again. But now it was stronger that the time they kissed

“Oh right, sorry” The brunette distanced herself and chuckled

“I was just happy that I finally won’t fail that subject since the great Hwang Eunbi is gonna help me study” Yerin flashed her famous smile. It was freaking Eunbi out on why she was feeling this way. How come she only now realized how pretty the older girl’s smile was? How her eyes would curve as if it were also smiling along with her lips...

Eunbi knew that Yerin wasn’t called the ‘princess’ of the school for nothing but she didn’t know that her smile would be this captivating

“Why do you look so dense when you entered the room?” Yewon, Eunbi’s classmate, asked her as she was studying her notes for their next subject

Eunbi stared at her thinking if she should tell it to her or not. She thought that Yewon might be able to help her since the girl gives opinions and advices very well — just like how Yewon managed to matchmake her sister, Sojung, and her sister’s junior, Eunha

But telling Yewon might also cause her to get teased by the younger girl making her heave a sigh

“What does that sigh mean, Hwang?” Yewon said. Eyes still fixed on her notes

“Nothing”

“I know it’s not nothing. You’re very bad at lying you know that”

Eunbi groaned and covered her face. Yewon was definitely smarter than her but she didn’t know that she could also sense this kind of things easily 

“Why are you so sharp?” Eunbi said catching Yewon’s attention. The younger girl dropped her pen and closed her notes to look at Eunbi

“You’re just simply easy to read” Yewon said with a mocking smile that made the latter roll her eyes

“Okay, tell me what’s up. I might be able to help you” The younger girl added

The older girl took a deep breath for she knew that she couldn’t hide things from the top one and president of the class. The girl was just too sharp and smart for her

“Fine. Remember Yerin?” — Yewon nodded and told her to continue — “Well... I have been feeling weird things towards her lately...”

The younger girl raised her eyebrow and she knew where this topic is heading to. She just couldn’t help but shake her head in disbelief because how come Eunbi just realized this now? Everybody knows and sees it except for Eunbi herself and maybe even Yerin

“Finally. Someone made a move” Yewon mumbled to herself but it was loud enough for the latter to hear it and it made her crease her forehead out of confusion

“What?” 

“You’re really hopeless aren’t you?”

“What?”

“So which one of you made the first move?” Yewon said getting back to her own business

Eunbi who was still confused as ever had no idea. Like literally zero idea on what her classmate was talking about. She asked again and again what Yewon meant until the latter got annoyed that she aswered

“Fine, you really don’t know?” The older girl shook her head

Hopeless... Yewon thought

“You didn’t know how both of you and Yewon have this heart eyes every time you’re together and how much inseparable you both are? And inseparable by the means of not as friends, you two literally look like a couple madly in love. People who doesn’t know you would think that. Even I who knows both of you thinks you’re dating” Yewon said as if she was rapping, almost losing her breath after replying all those words to her clueless friend

Eunbi leaned back from her seat, shocked by the sudden outburst of the class president and fortunately there were currently only few students inside the room so it wasn’t that embarrassing that she got reprimanded by the girl beside her

The whole day of class, Eunbi only thought of what Yewon had told her. Was she really that clueless in the first place? Or was the class president just assuming things about her relationship with Yerin?

She fished out her phone and searched ‘how to know if you’re in love with someone’ the girl know it’s a dumb thing to do since the internet can’t answer all your questions correctly. And searching this was plainly dumb

The top answers were:

1. You can’t stop staring at her and she can make you smile in everything she does. Even the slightest things can make you smile
2. When the person makes mistakes, you’ll rather find it cute than get annoyed
3. You feel this sudden urge to attack the person flirting with her and you couldn’t help but be protective of her
4. You miss her even if she was just gone for a few minutes, you can’t help but to wish that she was with you
5. Your day wouldn’t be complete without seeing her

“Why is it describing me?” Eunbi asked herself. She was curious on why the search engine was describing her thoughts and feelings about the brunette? It was as if the internet coveted her mind

A sudden voice surprised Eunbi, making her phone almost slip from her hand. She turned her head and saw the class president holding a milkshake

“I see you that searched for that” Yewon said with a smirk making Eunbi embarrassing on getting caught redhanded

“So did it answer your question?”

“I don’t know... but it did describe me... it was so weird that it captured every thought and feeling of mine”

The younger girl took a deep breath “Then it already answered your curiosity. Even if you go to my sister and her girlfriend, they’ll probably just answer the same” — Yewon leaned closer to the ears of the latter and whispered “You’re in love with your best friend”

“In love huh?” Eunbi muttered as she was sitting on her bed, waiting for Yerin to arrive for her tutoring lesson

The whole time she was waiting for the expected guest to arrive, Eunbi couldn’t help but do unnecessary moves and fidget her hands nonstop. She was having a battle with her mind if she was gonna ask the older girl what the kiss they shared meant to her. If Yerin only did it to tease the girl or if there was another hidden meaning behind it

“I’m here” Yerin said as she barged in Eunbi’s room making the latter flinch from the sudden intrusion by her friend

“Did I make you wait that long?” The brunette said as she removed her slippers and crossed her legs on top of the bed

“No. I was busy thinking of our performance task tomorrow” The younger girl lied.

“Ahhh I see” — Yerin stretched her arms before placing her physics book onto the bed — “Then let’s get started, shall we? The earlier we start, the earlier we finish”

With that, the older girl opened her book and searched for the page which she doesn’t quite understand. After finding the page, Eunbi started writing the formulas and problems for the latter to solve

As Eunbi was writing the formula, Yerin couldn’t help but adore the beauty of her best friend. She had always adorned Eunbi ever since they were children. The older girl really had this urge to protect and keep Eunbi beside her. And she was ready to fight whomever would have the guts to hurt her best friend

This urge was only sense of a best friend but as time passes by, she couldn’t help but fall for the girl. Cliché right? Yerin started developing feelings for the latter in the middle of middle school during Eunbi’s dance performance on their school’s talent show

Yerin knew that falling for the girl was wrong but so she tried stopping it from further developing. But the more Eunbi was near her, the more she falls for her best friend

She herself doesn’t even know why she suddenly kissed Eunbi at the mall. It just happened so fast as if it was her instincts that made her kiss the younger girl

Yerin was affected of course, no one would be able to act normal if you suddenly kissed your one sided love. The brunette was thankful that they were best friends and Eunbi knew how touchy she could be so it may have helped her in her case. That Eunbi wouldn’t ignore her or anything that may cause their friendship to get broken

“Do you like me?” Yerin blurted out, unknowingly letting out her thoughts with her bare mouth.

Eunbi stopped from writing and had her eyes wide open, same as Yerin who was cursing inside her head for spilling some unnecessary thoughts

But older girl wanted to know the answer. She have been curious about it since forever but seeing how taken aback the latter was made her a hundred times nervous.

She was sure that she would get turned down

“O-of course I like you” The younger girl stuttered, obviously implying that she likes the brunette as her friend. Trying to act as clueless she could be

The brunette stared at the latter, she knew that she wouldn’t get to hear the answer from her question if she doesn’t move closer to the younger girl. Yerin leaned closer Eunbi, leaving only a few inches until their lips touch. She could feel the warm breaths of the younger girl on her skin.

“W-what are you doing?” The younger girl was slowly leaning away from the brunette making her back almost to fall from the mattress of the bed but Yerin’s reflexes were fast that she managed to slid her arm around Eunbi’s waist, supporting the latter from falling

“Answer me Eunbi. You just have to say yes or no and if it happens to be a no, let’s please act like nothing happened” Yerin said pleadingly towards the younger girl who can’t seem to find the right words to answer

“Please” The older girl pleaded for the latter to give her an answer. She closed her eyes to stop the teaser from falling for she doesn’t want her best friend to see her at this state and she definitely doesn’t want her best friend to tell her that she also have feelings for her out of pity

“I do” Eunbi suddenly said, catching Yerin off guard and clueless — not being able to process what just happen

“I said I do have feelings for you... I started realizing it when you suddenly kissed me in the mall” The younger girl looked down trying to avoid making contact with the brunette

“I’m sorry for not realizing it sooner” Eunbi added, barely able to be heard

Yerin was trying to process all the words that her best friend had just said since it all felt surreal — it wasn’t a one sided love after all. With no hesitation, Yerin captured the lips of the younger girl, kissing her passionately, making Eunbi feel the hunger and how much she had waited for this moment to happen. It was no doubt that both of them fell butterflies in their stomach when they shared their first kiss but now, they felt fireworks exploding inside them

“I should’ve kissed you sooner” The brunette said when their lips parted to catch their breath, earning her a light smack on the shoulder from the younger girl

“And I’m sorry for being clueless all this time” Eunbi said.

Yerin lovingly smiled at the younger and cupped Eunbi’s cheek as her lips travelled towards the younger girl’s forehead to plant a small chaste kiss on it
