Chapter 02

In Time

Grunting. Shrilling. Loud thuds filled the empty alley. It seemed like something heated was going on, probably a battle. But to the neighbors, they speculated it to be a a bunch of stray dogs or drunkards batting their heads together so they paid no attention and went on with whatever they were doing.

In reality, there was indeed a battle and surely, there were some batting of heads going on but there was something greater to it.

Neul gi was still passed out on the ground with a bleeding chest, scraped knees, bruised wrists, and the monster's long, thorny and stick-like arm stuck in the middle of her chest. She was barely breathing, probably a max of 10 heavy breaths per minute. A boy was hovered over her, placing his open palms on top of her bleeding chest, he has been trying to remove the monster's arm which was left stuck in her chest when the elder cut its arm to stop it from piercing further.

"Elder-nim, I cant seem to pull this arm off. It's too deep and dangerous" the boy looked up to one of the elders who just kicked the monster away from where they were.

"Can you stop it from bleeding? It's too dangerous if you pull it now. Let's just-" the elder was cut off as the monster came crashing towards him. Luckily, he was able to open up a worm hole and transfer their colliding bodies to the other end of the alley to prevent from falling into to Neul gi's body and from worsening her condition.

"Jaemin, can you hold her up in the sky while we await for the Guardians? The ground is too dangerous. More of the décès will come." The other elder who was trying to contact the High turned to a boy who was meekly crouching over Neul gi's body, opposite to the boy who was, up until now, trying to stop the bleeding.

"Yes, I can but not for long if I have to lift both of her and Mark-hyung in the sky. I'm too weak." Jaemin bit his bottom lip as he stood up and placed both of his arms in front of him, concentrating so hard to lift two person up in the air. Soon enough, Mark and Neul gi was lifted 2-meters from the ground and is now floating in the air all through Jaemin's gift. This was the first time that Jaemin did it successfully, he has tried lifting two people in the air a couple of times before but he always failed since he was too weak. But miraculously, he succeeded this time, maybe it was the years of training or maybe it was just the adrenaline rush he was feeling now.

"Hyung, there's more!" The elder warned the other as he threw the hardest punch he could muster to send the monster staggering back and was down for a moment. It was too early to celebrate since from afar, they could sense and see the monsters scurrying towards where they are.

"Heechul, the High heard us. They will send help, they'll be here any minute now." The other elder who was busy from the beginning assured Heechul who was now rugged and beat from the battle.

"They better be Leeteuk hyung, Jaemin is running out of energy." Heechul looked at his son worriedly and then back at the monster who was now squirming. 'They just don't die easily huh' Heechul thought annoyingly as he readied his stance. He was sure that the rest of the décès were nearing their location.

"They're here!" Leeteuk exclaimed as he saw the familiar beam of light descending from above, it was none other than the Crescent's best set of soldiers. They're called the Guardians and they protect the land from any form of evil, well in this situation, from the décès.

"Yay" Heechul exclaimed but he sounded unfazed as he ran towards his son who was now in the brink of fainting. Leeteuk on the other hand warmly greets the soldier as they set foot on land.

"That's the one but there's more so ready yourself" Leeteuk told Suho, the leader of the Guardians as he pointed towards the direction of the monster who was now in the process of gaining its balance.

"Okay. Is someone injured?" Suho's gaze shifted from Leeteuk to Mark and Neul gi's figure floating in the air, "You must return back to the Crescent, we'll take it from here." Suho did not even wait for Leeteuk's reply as he slightly bowed his head, signaling them to take flight as the monsters started pouring in the alley.

Leeteuk nodded as he witnessed a soldier, Chanyeol, frying the monsters with his fire but the monsters are stronger than they look. Without second thoughts, Leeteuk hurried to Heechul and Jaemin who was now starting to lose consciousness as Mark and Neul gi's body dangerously waver in the air.

"Let me take it from here, thank you Jaemin." Leeteuk patted the boy's head and proceeded to take in control of Mark and Neul gi's body and snapped his fingers to teleport the three of them back to the Crescent. Heechul on the other hand took his son in his arms and opened up a worm hole to transport them back to the Cresecent.

"Did I do a good job, father?" Jaemin asked and weakly turned his head to look at Heechul who was now able to successfully transport both of them back to the Crescent.

"Yes, my son. You did a great job, now rest" Heechul smiled adoringly at his son who has now passed out in his arms. Heechul carried his son in his arms and rushed to the nearest infirmary, not too far from the High. The High is the grandest and biggest house in the whole land of the Crescent, it is so big that it almost looks like a single village. This is also where all the Elders and their descendants live together in harmony (or most of time not) and it also serves as the headquarters for the Crescent Elders or leaders who are overlooking the lives and actions of the gifted in the Crescent or in the human world.
